  • Thanks everyone for your kind words about dp's father

    Today:
    1) receiving texts from work colleagues offering sympathy
    2) asking work colleague if she'd mind finishing an urgent task for me on Monday and receiving the reply 'consider it done'
    3) receiving 'phone call from dp this morning
    4) doing an inventory of the freezers and making a mini meal plan for this week
    5) still thinking of a fifth pleasure

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
    Evening all.

Caterina - thanks for those lasagne ideas - they all sound scrummy. I'd never thought of doing a sweet lasagne, and will definitely have to try that at some point.

mhagster - I'm very glad to hear you're OK and managing to stay (mostly) dry. I've had the Crowded House song 'Four Seasons in One Day' running through my head ever since I read your post - I might have to put that on the jukebox at the pub this evening. :)

    My pleasures for today:

    1) My favourite weekend breakfast of smoked salmon on wholemeal bread.

    2) Spent some time reading the book I picked up cheap in a second hand bookshop yesterday. It's by an author I've never read before - Iain Banks - I'll have to look for some more of his stuff as it's really good.

    3) Changed the bed so I've got clean sheets tonight. And I've got tomorrow off work to receive a delivery, so I get extra time to enjoy the clean sheets tomorrow morning. :D

    4) A gingerbread reindeer as an afternoon snack. (My DM got them as a Christmas present but, as she's not that keen on gingerbread, she swapped them with a box of chocolates I received and didn't want. Everyone's happy!)

    5) Pub quiz tonight, hopefully with the attendance of a team mate I haven't seen since before Christmas as she's had flu. :(

    Have a nice evening, all.
Back after a very long break!

    Hulloo!

Just flying in and out quickly while the house is quiet. DD and DH will be home soon and I need to look busy vacuuming the stairs when the arrive, but until then I am having half an hour of peace!!

    5 Recent Pleasures.....

    1. Wedding Anniversary on Friday. Lovely meal at Carluccios. (BOGOF voucher of course!).

    2. DD much more positive following her recent audition disappointments. She now has 4 uni auditions to prepare for which is just the distraction that she needs. :) (It was so much easier when they were little and a trip to McDonalds would do the trick!).

    3. My new freezer is in place and full up. I am so happy. :D We got a graded appliance as no one will see it in the pantry and it was half price. :money:No more wedging the door shut with a plank of wood!

    4. Got lots of bargain Xmas cards. DH was grumpy waiting for me to choose, as he hurt his back moving feezers around, but he will thank me next Xmas. All those relations cards, which can be really expensive, were a fraction of the original cost! :rotfl:

    5. Free tix to see Chalet Girl this morning. Really nice film which we all enjoyed. Love Bill Nighe and Bill Bailey. We even made our own popcorn to take with us too!

    Love and hugs HE x

    Evening

    Pleasures for today,

    1. Up early this morning and organised this morning. Made some Maid of Honour Tarts - did half with strawberry jam and the other half with marmalade. Also made a few fairy cakes with the left over sponge mix.
    2. Food shopping done and came in under budget:j:j
    3. Tasty dinner of beef enchildas and HM tortilla chips using up the last of the wraps.
    4. Wander around the shops with DD and resisted the urge to spend on things we didn't need. We did have a look around the Boots sale to see if there was anything in there worth waiting for the 75% off sale which will hopefully be Wednesday:money:
    5. Chat with my dad on the phone this morning

Hugs to all who need them
  • Your baking always sounds delicious Tealady!

    1) Sunday School was excellent - foot painting and printing (just watch the tendency to ice-skate). Even the Mum who was heroically wiping the floor down afterwards seemed pleased that they'd had a good time. It linked in with the story of the crippled man who was lowered through the roof to see Jesus. Almost. I just had to do foot painting once I'd seen it.
    2) DH and DS managed to get some stuff in the loft that I've been wanting to get up there for a while now. The trouble is that I'm too short or too weedy to make the gap between the top step of the loft ladder and the loft hatch.
    3) DD is now sewing all the buttons securely onto her raincoat after washing and ironing it. Very Old Style.
    4) Got my OU assignment back. This tutor is very quick. Very pleased with the mark too. I don't mind essays as long as I have three weeks to do them. It's the exam that worries me. Never mind. If I do well this year I will be able to claim some sort of certificate which will stand me in good stead.
    5) Didn't go to the pub. It seemed too late and too dark and windy to venture out after we'd got everything done and we had a small glass of wine each left from yesterday evening so I reckon we've saved a couple of quid there.

    1. DD and I really enjoyed Sunday school this morning, we're infrequent visitors but will probably make more of an effort as it was good fun.
    2. Gave one of DD's friends a lift to a fab birthday party this afternoon.
    3. Whilst they were being entertained, I went for my 6th swim of the week!! I know I won't be able to maintain that level of activity in coming weeks, I've just been *lucky* to have been able to carve out time, and I feel amazing for it.
    4. Big dopey grins on my face after lovely conversations and texts with MrA. He's a keeper!
    5. Spent far too much in Mr W on groceries but it was mostly very healthy, low fat stuff. I've hopefully got a summer holiday to Italy to slim down for!! (and also to save up to pay for, but that's not a pleasure, lol)

Thanks for the recipes, Caterina! My cheese sauce (white sauce) is a bit hit and miss. :-S I need more recipes generally - to feed 8 including a pescatarian.

Well, it's been a splendid weekend! I'm not sure how to split today (Sun) into 5 separate pleasures but here goes.

    1) 7 sons safely looked after - MrN and I had a day out! So the first pleasure can just be the journey in the car with no one in the back seats. :-D

    2) We went to the Malvern Hills and walked across 3 of them (inc the biggie). The weather changed as we got up the Beacon until it was so windy it was difficult to walk. The cloud descended too and we had horizontal hail. It's weird how you struggle on into the wind, holding on to your hat - then some old bloke sprints past you with a cheery "hello" wearing only little shorts and a vest top!

    3) Had lunch out too in a pub. And played pool!

    4) Boys came back from their father's in good spirits and we made some fairy cakes.

    5) MrN popped round for a cup of tea once all the children were asleep and has just left. :-)

    Evening all.

    My pleasures for today:

    1) Actually one from last night - I got chatting to a Scottish guy at the pub quiz and we're hoping to go out for a drink later in the week. (I'm having a bit of trouble convincing myself that one is a pleasure, in a way - I haven't been on a date in a very long time and I'm so nervous I've actually made myself sick today. :( (Particularly as he got a bit pushy after a few drinks last night - any more of that and it could be a very short date!))

    2) Had a nice, if brief, chat to my DM on the phone - there's nothing like a mum to make you feel better. :)

    3) Got my new breadmaker. :j It turned up nice and early, too, so I had the rest of the day free.

    4) Went for a walk on the beach in one of the brief periods of sunshine.

    5) Planning a lazy evening of watching television and then an early night, as I slept really badly last night. (Nerves again - pathetic, isn't it? :o)

woken up very early this morning, still dark but can see a thin line of sunrise on the distant hills and all the birds are just starting to wake up. Seems like ages since I've been up as early, I usually sleep very well after having months of not sleeping well prior to our move here.

    Anyway.......Monday's pleasures:
    1. Went into our 'town' yesterday, dropped off our library books then did our bits & bobs that needed doing!
    2. Op shop shopping! Got some bargains.....my dd2 had even sussed out what colour tag was 1/2 price this week, so got a pair of crop jeans for me, 1 for her, a skirt for me, a skirt for her,a painting smock: which is for a 5 year old but it is in the most beautiful fabric with applique on it, so as I don't have a 5 year old I am planning on using the fabric for something! DD2 got a video & dd1 a yoyo!
Then into another op shop & got a lovely skirt for $1......I wasn't sure if it would fit, again would have used it for the fabric but if I breathe in it fits!
I want to make a start to a patchwork quilt. Might be nice to do once my winter comes!
2.Went into pet shop. Over here, in malls ,they have glass fronted pet shops with glass cages with puppies or kittens in them. I found this quite distressing at first as we had left our much loved pets at home.
Anyway, 'our' pet shop wasn't like this but had a very large cage with 3 kittens in it, they were gorgeous (as all baby animals are!) ,got to have a stroke of 1 of them. Then the assistant showed dd2 the new baby guinea pigs. Then we met the shop cats......2 that live in the shop, they were lovely.......1 was taking a very interested look at the guinea pigs though!
3.Then it was back up to the library to refill our bags of books & glossy mags! Just caught the bus, had to run last wee stretch!
4.Came home & had beans on toast for lunch. It was delicious. First time I've had beans in Australia. Sat & watched The Bill whilst we ate!
5.Had a lovely ,reduced, gammon joint for dinner. They are pre-cooked over here & when I asked another customer in a shop, pre -Christmas (couldn't see cooking instructions on packaging ) she looked at me as if I was daft & said they are usually eaten cold here. Anyway, I got it half price(still not cheap) but have portioned it up & put 3 more meals worth in freezer.
    Well, it was very yummy.
6.Helped DD1 move her room around to make a bit more space. She's not really feeling the love for her room.......loved her old room back home. As we are renting we are limited to what we can do decor wise, and bedrooms are quite dark (shaded for coolness) and uninspiring.....however, she now has quite a bit more floorspace. Going to do dd2's today. She is in a very dull room with not much natural light coming through so will do our best!

Off to make OH's lunch then think I'll sneak back under covers!
