    Evening everyone
Hope everyone's had a good day. My pleasures today:-

1 - Being able to do the week's food shopping in an almost empty supermarket this afternoon: time and space to root round the reduced items, find BOGOF's etc, without having to fight (metaphorically :o ) the weekend crowds
2- Bumped into a former colleague who said he was soooo envious I'd escaped, and how bad the atmosphere is generally. I knew I'd made the right decision to get out, but nice to have it vindicated
3 - Finally got around to sorting out the jumble of beads, necklaces, and heaven knows what else on my dressing table
4 - Did some work sorting out my craft stuff
5 - My amaryllis (which my cat nearly demolished) is in full bloom and looks spectacular :j

Have a good evening everyone. Hope the date goes well CCP, later this week

  • Girlysquare - Really sory to hear about your dp's dad. My thoughts go out to your family.
Caterina - Some great lasagne recipes :D
CCP - Good luck for your date!

Had a great weekend visiting with my mum and sister. We did a bit more planning for our joint family holiday to Spain later in the year.
And here are my pleasures from today:

    1) A field trip day! DS1 met up with a group for some painting and a game of warhammer. DS2 at sports club.
    2) Watched the Hitchcock 1940s 'Rebecca' on DVD for DS1's English. I'd not read the book or seen the film before and really enjoyed it. DS1 and I had fun trying out the 1940s clipped English accent :D
    3) Got a home-educators library card which allows me an extra 20 books at a time :D
    4) Enjoyed wearing my new boots that my mum very kindly bought me.
    5) Chatting with the mums at sports club.

hi all, sorry haven't read it all.
Caterina - with the apple raisin lasagna, what sauce/juice do you use? ;)

    Here's some of mine:

    1. My new hand blender with mini chopper means less waste as I can chop veg really quickly, including the base of celery, dodgy peppers - they can become mush to be disguised in sauces very quickly :D

    2. Spending time with OH.

    3. My charity shop Pied a Terre shoes being comfy, looking good and matching at least two skirts in my wardrobe (they were bought for a dinner dance).

    4. Rediscovering the green grocers, and discovering I can get there and back in my lunch time, visit co-op for offers/reductions and have time to eat my lunch ;)

    5. Diet/healthy eating attempts mean my clothes are more loose, stomach less bloated, and I have remembered how much I like some fruits, lots of veg, and soup.

    6. Having soups for lunch every weekday - easy, cheap and can be batch made and frozen.

    Over the week-end:

    1. Having a couple of long lie-ins. With these dark mornings I just don't seem to be able to kick myself out of bed very early.

    2. Meeting up with a good friend.

    3. Going out for "An evening with Rabbi Lionel Blue." at our local Arts Centre. On many occasions he brightened my Monday morning on Thought for the Day on Radio 4 on my morning motorway commute to work. So nice to see him in the flesh, even though he's now 80 and suffering from ill health.

    4. Finding I'd lost a pound when I stepped on the scales - rather pathetic really since that's all I've lost since January 4th.
  • 1. Made yogurt for first time.
    2. Dug out breadmaker and turned out a reasonable little loaf.
    3. Made my first ever marmalade with a can of mamade oranges.
    4. Printed out dinky little sticky labels for aforementioned jam.
    5. Dug out slowcooker and used it to heat / keep warm home made parsnip and apple soup 'til DH got home.

A sad day today, as needed to take my mum to the funeral of her lovely friend Sandra, so plenty of displacement / distraction activity here I think :-(
Nothing in it, nothing in it but a ribbon round it .....

    Oh let me see:

    1. Spending less than I anticipated at the supermaket today.

    2. Arranging my return to work next week after a long (5 month!) period of illness. My place of work is pretty horrid in terms of atmosphere and the job itself, but it feels good to be at a stage where I think I'll actually be able to manage again and of course I'm thankful to still have a job. DH will be going through redundancy soon, so me being back at work will take some pressure off him.

    3. Fennel tea - I'm loving it!

    4. Discovering there's a place that's semi-local and teaches various craft classes. I really want to take a sewing class and didn't think there was one around here, so pretty happy about that.

    5. Just made an applesauce cake and have eaten half of it trying to decide if I like it :o...I'm still deciding...

CCP - good luck with your date, but if it doesn't feel right, get out quick! If it feels great, then :):)

    1. Blissful afternoon with Mr A :)
    2. Managed to get all my course homework done before work so was able to print off and feel organised
    3. Remembered to take my swimming goggles to the pool today so had a really great swim :)
    4. YS bread rolls
    5. Did a Reverbe and found 6p

    Evening

Patchwork Quilt - Thank you for your comments about my baking it made my day.

    Pleasures for today.
    1. Getting a free posh clinique mascara today in Debenhams, thanks to MSE:money:. DD and a friend also managed to get one on the way home from school.
    2. Took the left over HM tortilla chips into work and they went down well.
    3. Just me and DD tonight as OH went to football. Nice to spend a quiet evening together. Had Buffalo Burgers and HM wedges for dinner as DD requested. The burgers are quiet expensive but still cheaper than a takeaway which is what we would normally have done.
    4. Made a big pan of mixed bean and chirizo soup. Will exchange some at work for one of the IT guys to do some work on OH laptop:T
    5. Bought the wool I needed for the next blanket I am making. Managed to get about a 1/4 of it done and have some ideas of colour mixes I would like to try on future ones.

Hugs to all who need them
  • 1) Gave some home made marmalade to a colleague in return for the posh jars they keep giving me and he says it will last him a week!
    2) Took Sewing Group at school. It was chaos last week. It seemed as if no-one could thread a needle. This week, they all just sat and chatted and got on with it. We've got some nice little projects coming along. Unfortunately, they want to learn crochet next.
    3) Book Club this evening (the church Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Club - very esoteric). It's just such a pleasure to listen to all those intelligent people talking about something very different to my every day life. Apparently, there are copies of the next book on Amazon for 1p. The wine is nice too.
    4) I got a red coat in a bag of clothes from SIL, pinched DD's red scarf and put it with some red gloves I got last Christmas. It gives me a great deal of pleasure to wear something so bright at this time of year.
