    Evening

Girlysquare - Sorry to hear about your family loss, thoughts with you and your family.

    Pleasures for today
    1. Lie in this morning, have been feeling tired all week so was lovely to be able to sleep later this morning.
    2. Lunch date with OH at the local pub, was nice to be able to spend some time by ourselves.
    3. No need to cook dinner as had a late lunch and DD just wanted some soup
    4. Meal plan done for next week and son't need too much so should be a cheap food shop this week
    5. Finally finished making a blanket that has been on the go for a very long time and started a new one

Hugs to all who need them

    Evening all,

Hello everyone. Sending hugs and good wishes to everyone :)

    1. Needed to get a certain amount of washing done today for work - and I done it. When I think how previous generations had to hand wash stuff and there's me being all lazy with my washing machine. The place looks like a laundry now with stuff hanging everywhere but no need to worry about that tomorrow.
    2. Had a cooked breakfast for lunch! Did scrambled egg, lovely bacon from Waitrose (maple), tomatoes, beans, toast. Yum.
    3. Dropped off a car bootful of stuff to a local charity shop. It felt so good to be getting rid of so much stuff. And I turned to OH and said I cannot really remember what's in any of those bags so clearly won't be missed.
    4. Read a lovely piece yesterday about - a pink rose shaped candle. And how we should use the lovely stuff today and not save anything for best. Here's to using and loving everything we have.
    5. Crying at the Invention of Lying film - there's a scene in it where Ricky Gervais is talking to his dying mum. Why is this a pleasure? Because he did the scene so well and also that it reminds me how much I love my mum :) I miss her so much but I see these feelings as showing the strength of my love :) so particular hugs to anyone going through anything like that.

Night all. And after you've read my pleasures why not go and give someone a hug, virtual or otherwise :)
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!"
Less things. Less stuff. More life.

Mine all mine:have a hug right back at you! I miss having friends to give & receive hugs from!

Sunday morning & sitting up in bed & thinking about getting up! Was up & about earlier but came back to bed to read for a while.
1.Yesterday was a hottie but the air was clear which makes a big difference. Got all my washing up to date, all towels & bathmats nice & clean & dry! It really was a struggle trying to get stuff dry when it was wet outside but humid inside! But I read a tip about putting salt in saucers dotted around the place to absorb moisture so will try that next time.
2.Went supermarket shopping , the amount I spend is fairly consistent ,week to week, building up a decent store cupboard & having enough food to last the week for meals. This is very different to how I shopped before.
3.I was very happy yesterday putting lots of lovely fresh veggies in the fridge! Nice, in season food.
4.Spoke to 2 different friends from home, really lovely to chat with them.......familiar voices, dialect, shared humour!
5.just a nice day really! didn't do beach for a change just stayed at home!

ccp:thank you for your concern, we are nice & dry where we live. We did have exceptionally heavy rain on Friday. I have never known such heaviness to rain.....I have lived most of my life in West coast of Scotland, so no stranger to rain but this is of a different rainy quality!
However the sun is back out & it's hot but clear aired again which is much more bearable.
I think it was Sparrer who said we have lots of weather! we do, the saying here is 4 seasons in one day! Wait another 5 minutes & the weather will change again.

However, there are those not so fortunate, so shouldn't really moan (but I suspect I will when it's so bloomin' warm!) Your heart goes out to these folk affected by flooding, I can't begin to imagine, everything & I mean everything you own, ruined & lost forever.

Hello.....me again , back with Sundays pleasures
1.The joyful sound of my son telling the whole house he had seen a kangaroo whilst out cycling with his dad this morning!
2.Laughing at the state of said dad when he came back in from cycle!
3.Picnic packed & a great afternoon at another new to us beach. It was lovely, warm with a wee breeze. Not too hot! Kids in swimming & on boogie boards & having such great fun.......me....with a book!
4.Home & quick & easy tea to make of fresh ravioli & pasta sauce. Juicy orange for pudding....oh and a wee tiny, ice cream! I am trying to 'ration' the ice cream. 1 tub a week, back home it would last for ages but because it's been as warm it is nice to have after dinner but we were ploughing through the tubs by midweek ,so 1 scoop only!
5.Did a bit of weeding in the front garden........need to keep on top of it as the weeds will take the valuable moisture from the ground. It's quite pleasantly cooler outside so was quite happy to potter about.

So a nice day, looks like it's to be a bit cooler this week.......by this I mean low 20's....which suits me fine!
    Enjoy your day ! m x
  • Morning, all. Here goes with the pleasures of yesterday/this morning:

    1. My pastry keeps getting better and better! The pie I made last night had a lovely crust and was (to me) better than the filling! DH seemed to really like it though, and kept mentioning about "not wasting food" so we should have the leftover pie tonight for tea. Bless him. :)
    2. There being some leftover mashed potatoes from tea. I've a mind to make some mashed potato cakes with bacon in for my lunch from a Wartime cookbook - mmm.
    3. Found a big bar of chocolate in the cupboard, a remnant from Christmas. That helped to cheer me up a bit last night! I'm still on the sofa with my ankle propped up and feeling a bit blue.
    4. Getting organised, at least mentally, for focusing on self-improvement where savings and self-organisation are concerned. The theories are all in place at least ;) It just needs other situations to improve...
    5. Part of that self-improvement involves losing a couple of pounds so this morning I've been looking at a recipe for low fat chocolate and banana brownies which only have about 2g of fat each. Shall definitely be making those, as we normally have a couple of bananas which go all brown by the end of the week.

Here's hoping the days get a bit better - it just seems to have been one thing after another lately. I have a feeling it'll get worse before it gets better. Still, I think I'll watch another episode of Edwardian Farm via iPlayer a bit later. It does help relax me, and I can't help but think that the information will be useful at some point. Anyway, have a good day everyone.

GirlySquare - so sorry to hear about your dp's dad.

CCP - I want a lasagne now! But don't really have anything to make it from, besides the lasagne sheets.

    5 for yesterday (Saturday).

    1) Had a bit of a lie in.

    2) Sons went to their father's so I went to Worcester with my mum and got a top and cardie from the 2nd hand shops.

    3) Popped in to see my school friend who lives in the city before we went home.

    4) Went to my sister's for tea - curry.

    5) Went to the pub! It started off that I would go with my sister and her friend (who is staying there for the weekend). Then I asked MrN and he said he would and his youngest 3. Then my mum, dad and brother decided they would go. It's only a little country pub so we took up the whole of one room, fortunately the room with both the dart board and pool table. :-D

You can make lasagne out of EVERYTHING, Frith! Got cheese? Onions? Potatoes? Stock cube? Bacon or ham (optional)?

Layer thinly sliced raw potatoes and sliced fried onions with raw sheets of lasagne, sprinkle cheese between layers and chopped bacon or ham if you have it/like it, then cover with enough stock to just cover the lasagne, make sure the corners are covered as they get crunchy otherwise. Last layer, sprinkle cheese on top.

*Cover with foil and cook on medium heat in the over for 15-20 minutes, then put oven high and let it brown for another 5 minutes or so.

Have you got broccoli, salmon, cheese, flour, milk? Make quick cheese sauce, then lightly steam broccoli (or other greens) and salmon then layer with lasagne sheets and cheese sauce. Proceed as from * (a bit like a knitting pattern!:rotfl:).

Lentils, onions, carrots, tomatoes and a bit of cheese, plus stock? Make lentil sauce by chopping onions and carrots fine, sautee, add tomatoes, then layer with lasagne sheets and grated cheese. *

Milk, sugar, apples, raisins, cinnamon? Layer finely chopped apples with lasagne sheets, add raisins, sprinkle sugar and cinnamon. *

Only a few ideas, but if you want more ideas and you tell me what you got in your cupboard I can think of more! Lasagne are a very versatile base for so many variations on the basic recipe!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Haven't ventured far or done much this last couple of days, but todays' pleasures:-

    2) Caught up on e-mails
    3) Been out to collect a few essentials from the supermarket
    4) Loved the lasagne recipe, Caterina, shall be trying that out this week
    5) Enjoying catching up on this thread. Love the sound of the low fat choc and banana brownies Kitchenbunny - would love the recipe if you get chance

Hope all are having a good weekend,

    Pam x
