Not out and about today as both children poorly poppets.

    1. HM soup for lunch
    2. Laying a peanut trail around the garden to see if the squirrel will follow it. Must rig up some ropes tomorrow and see if he is very clever like the ones I remember on squirrel assault courses on TV when I was little. Kids v. excited by this!!!!
    3. Snugging up with the children under the blankets whilst we watched Alvin and the Chipmunks
    4. Grating a whole great big root of ginger and packing it into an ice-cube tray for freezing. Will then bag it up when frozen and its good to go (saves peeling and grating every time).
    5. Poorly poppets are in bed. Husband is doing the dishes and I'm going to have a hot chocolate moment soonish!!!

Have a good day tomorrow everyone.

    Evening all

Bit of a horrible day today with friends and family fighting and stuff over petty little things and I am trying to keep out of it all so I dont take sides or make matters worse but I just want to bang their heads together!!!!!! Lifes to short!!!

    Anyway mine for today

1 Leaving on time again today (god bless Otis!!!!!!)

2 More compliments on my cooking (and got a new recipe to try out on the mums up the school - they are fast becoming my gineau pigs!!!)

3 Sun shinning all afternoon so kept my living room nice and warm

4 Ds playing up so I just said 'I'll tell Otis' and he stopped (the mums up the school did a double take, and so did I!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P)

5 Dh working form home so I could pick ds1 up from school without other kids and we had a really nice talk on the way home. I really dont spend enough time with just him. Must try harder on that one!

    mine for today

    1) walking to work in the cold but feeling warm due to the nice twirly scarf I made
    2) Its Friday......say no more :D
    3) During December everyone brings nice stuff into work to eat...so having choccy bickkies with my coffee this morning
    4) bumping (literally) into an elderly lady in front of the wool display in wilkco today and having a conversation about crochet (didn't mean to bump into her but she sort of leant across me and wobbled lol)
    5) OH home tonight at 8 o/c and now it feels like the weekend

oh an extra one from yesterday, people at work are very interested in stuff I make so took me sock monkeys and snowmen in and they think I am clever :rotfl:one woman kept kissing one of me sock monkeys, she has now gone on holiday so am going to make one for her and sit it in her chair for when she comes back :rotfl:might dress it as father xmas :D
whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

    Stopped smoking 20:30 28/09/11 :D
  • Nice to see you back, Reverbe

    1) Had my hair done this morning. I feel like a new woman, again.
    2) Met a friend in town and went to see a craft exhibition. There was some lovely stuff but I couldn't help thinking that I (and many of the posters on the OS thread) could have managed to do some of it. Especially the blanket-stitched hanging hearts. We're making those in sewing club. Anyway, we then pottered around the shops together and ended up having coffee and a shake before she caught her train home.
    3) Popped in to see DD's boyfriend's Mum. I used to see her anyway in church but it's been good to get to know her a little better. She has a kitten staying with her which was just soo cute. Unfortunately, it burnt its nose on the candle but soon forgot when it found a dead leaf on the house plant that needed pouncing on.
    4) Have spoken to all sorts of family members about Christmas arrangements today - Mum, both brothers and the in-laws, along with DH's brother. It meant I could order some presents online. I feel a bit more organised now.

    :hello: Hiya Reverbe.

Thanks for the reminder about thermals, Caterina - was telling DS2 that I must get mine out of store the other day then I forgot about doing it. It's sooo cold today, I really need them. The ground floor of our house is stone all the way through and the cold just sits there. I can see us spending the winter in the upstairs bedrooms which are much warmer.

Thanks for the tip about freezing grated ginger MoneyMission. I hadn't realised you could do this and it solves what to do with the root I got this week that I don't think will get used for a while.

My five for a freezing Friday :D

    1. Sorted out a council tax error and it looks as if I'm going to be due a substantial refund :D

    2. Walking across the athletics ground this morning in the sunshine - it's such a lovely space and has such good memories.

    3. Children's coach was in a very good mood this lunchtime - lots of fun - and he gave them each a really good lesson.

    4. Stopped off at Borders sale again (since it was en route to somewhere else we had to go) and picked up a hardbacked notebook that I would have bought at full price but it had 30% off in the sale. It's going to be my 2010 diary.

    5. Spotting holly and berries and other useful greenery in the hedgerows ready for our front door Christmas wreath making. It's making us be very observant of things we'd otherwise miss. I think we need to find a friendly farmer who'll let us go and help ourselves.

Off to make the hotties. Sleep well everyone.

Rummer, just wanted to pop on and say how sorry I am to hear your news (I'm sorry I must have missed it when reading the thread last night - not sure how...I was tired and obviously lacking in concentration!). Anyway, I just wanted to add my support to everybody else's coments here. I have been made redundant a couple of times in the last few years, so I do know how panicky it can make you feel - and also how it can knock your confidence...even when you know it is not a personal attack on you, it can still feel like it is a comment on your ability as a worker, so your OH has my sympathy.

I'm sure that your family will emerge stronger from this (it sounds trite to say this, and I don't mean it to be - but I know that Mr P and I survived when we thought we wouldn't, and in a weird way, it made us feel more able to cope with anything afterwards). The ability to survive redundancy and come out stronger can be very "character-building", and although sometimes you feel like screaming that your character doesn't need building up at the moment, thank you very much, its amazing how strong you can be when needs must, and what a family can come through and survive when pulling together as a team. :D

Hope this doesn't sound too "preachy" - its not meant to (it makes sense in my head, but I'm not sure if I'm translating it into words properly?!:o). Anyway, just wanted to add my support and let you know that we are here for you if there is anything we can do, or if you just need to shout and vent!! ;)

    (((Hugs)))

Hey everyone. I'm feeling really down today - a nagging worry I can't put my finger on what it is but am nervous and down because of it. Anyway, trying to find the brightside, here are mine for the last few days.

    1. Getting a kilo of grated cheese for £2.70 and splitting it into enough cheese to last us well into the New Year.
    2. Splitting £5 of steak mince (again from the market) into 6 x 200g packs which are now in my freezer. Each of those will, with other ingredients, feed us both for 12-15 meals, making each portion about 33p each.
    3. Some additional vouchers came through from Tescadiddles, which I am going to spend today on food/decorations for Christmas.
    4. Nearly being done with my cross stitch.

    Have a good day everyone

Morning all! Feeling in need of counting my blessing today, have been a bit "can't be a**ed" lately, and really I have a huge amount to be grateful for and should be thinking about the good things!

    1. My shiny new oven was fitted, and thanks to all the overtime I worked last month I could afford it!

    2. The children are all well and healthy, no nasty bugs at the moment!

    3. We have a warm, comfortable home, and my bed especially is lovely and big enough for us all to snuggle in and watch a film together.

    4. I got some bargain ys chestnuts yesterday and we can roast them over the fire later.

    5. I got lots of bargain ys milk and we will be using up the cream in the fridge, and the choc ds brought home from Germany, to make hot choc to go with our roasted chestnuts.

There, feeling bit better already, cosy night in to look forward to, and with the people I love best in the world.

Good Morning all :hello: - what a 'drippy day' - not raining at the moment but I can hear things 'dripping' in the garden.

SunnyGirl - thanks for that - she IS getting stronger and I'm very proud of her for standing her ground, not going back to being submissive and not returning to him just to stop him from pestering her. Wd you on just geting your lenses replaced in your specs :T - lol at the dog and 'mouse' ;).
Kittikins - Hope you DD is feeling a little better over the weekend - enjoy for Christmas Fayre today :).
Matody - wd you on re-vamping your cannisters instead of just buying some more :T.
redsquirrel - fingers crossed now for your phonecall/letter re the interview :) - as you say, interviews are never wasted as you get to 'hone' your skills plus learn more about what organisations/companies want from their employees today.
Muppet - the book that your friend has asked you to fill in is the kind of thing that I've done for my youngest sister for Christmas. She's a real 'remember when' person and I'm sure she'll love to do this . Hope you enjoy doing it for your friend and good luck to her with her treatment.
Caterina - good to hear that you're out and about again, but take it easy - don't want to get yourself 'jiggered' before Sunday's OS Meet-up.
BitsyBeans - wd to your ds on his first nativity/christmas play :j - very restrained of him NOT to pick his nose - my DS2 thought it was an obligatory part of any performance .
Reverbe - hope your flatmate didn't return too much the worse for wear last night. wd you on your new celebrity connection :T and thanks for giving Czech&Speake a mention. Have just registered with them and requested their sample plack :j.
ACEY - wtg on your shopping trip - please be careful on those side roads - it's the stupidity of other drivers that is most alarming.
MoneyMission - couldn't resist this one for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aY9GBl7UmVs&feature=related - happy viewing ;). Great idea about the root ginger :T.
nuttybabe - sorry to hear that there's so much conflict going on around you at the moment - it's so hard when people you know and care about just aren't 'getting along' - maybe you should threaten them all with Otis (or Jeremy Kyle perhaps) ;). HScyboie_glitters.gif for you.
Dazi - I work alone and from home, so your Nos.3 and 6 are the kind of things that I miss most - on the other hand I can take coffee/lunch breaks whenever I feel like it ;).
Patchwork - the craft fair sounds good - but that's how I feel when I see lots of these stalls 'I could do that!'.
Rummer - wd on getting your Christmas outfit delivered :j - and what would we all do without our 'support network' of friends - both real and cyber ;).
Broomstick - fingers crossed for your council tax refund :T. Enjoy your wreath making with the family.
piglet - great comments there on redundancy thoughs - I remember feeling that it was ME that was redundant not my job - horrible feeling.
Kitchenbunny - sorry to hear that you're feeling down and unsure why - here's some special HSbow126420.gif for you! Wd on splitting all that steak into useable portions and hope you enjoy using your vouchers this afternoon .
Mummysaver - oooooh a lovely shiny, new cooker to make all kinds of Christmas Goodies in . Hope you all enjoy your Roasted Chestnuts later - such a great memory of my childhood christmases .

    Mine for yesterday:

    1. Our viewing tenant didn't turn up again - two days on the run that she messed us around. The Housing Officer and I stood around for an hour on both occasions waiting for her - grrrr . However this does serve to tell us that this is not the right kind of accommodation for her needs and allows us to find a more suitable tenant for sheltered housing.

    2. The next one is very sad but a blessing has come out of it. One of my tenants has had deteriorating mental health problems for about 10yrs and has become increasingly frail in both body and mind. He has recently been giving real cause for concern as he sometimes didn't allow carers access to his home, unless it was the one that he trusts the most. After a case conference (approved social worker, 2 doctors, care agency and a member of family) it was decided to admit him to hospital for his own safety. A horrible course of action with a man that I've watched over for 19yrs BUT everybody knows it's ONLY responsible course to be taken. I can't see him being able to return to us, but all his old friends have either died or gone into nursing homes and he's the only one left of his 'small click' that's still with me - a 'proper character' a few years back. The 'end of an era' for us.

    3. Phone call from DS2 - could I manage a couple of hours baby-sitting for dgs's 2&3 :j - not seen anything of them for a few weeks due to him re-fitting their kitchen. Poor 'Dylan the Villain' hasn't been well with tummy problems and 'Billy-Blue-Eyes' is teething with back teeth :(, but they were both impeccably behaved for me.

    4. Watched the end of 'celebrity jungle' and glad to see Gino win :T. Would have also liked it to have been Kim - but I think her 'outspokenness' went against her. Think she's won a new following of fans though - what a 'game woman'!

    5. Expecting a visit from my mobile hairdresser this afternoon. Colour and trim both badly needed - even the dgk's have commented about my grey streaks  - so I'll look much tidier for Christmas after she's been :j.

Hope everybody has a brill OS/MSE day! For anyone about to brave the Christmas Shopping Crowds, enjoy yourselves but, in the words of Hill Street Blues - 'Let's be careful out there!' :rotfl:. love Ollie xxx
