  • Hi all haven't posted in here before so here goes,
    1) Beef done in slow cooker was fantastic and managed to use up loads of veg out of the fridge.
    2) Walked to tesco and back with dd instead of taking the car, a 5 minute walk took over an hour with the 18month old fascinated by every twinkly thing she saw on the way!
3)painted the sitting room to freshen up for christmas with left over paint from my bedroom.
    4)emptied the washing basket.
    5) made my first ever hm bread rolls, which the kids devoured for supper warm with butter and jam.

Only just getting back into the os way after a couple of years break but must say i have enjoyed the simplicity of pottering around the house and kitchen today much more than i though possible x
I will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)
Card #2 £6. I will not be skint at Chistmas this year!

    Total £56

    Mine for today:

1 Putting xmas decorations up with help of kids with xmas music playing. And even dh put up some lights even though he turns into the grinch at the mere mention of Christmas!!

2 HM edible baubals for xmas tree complete with edible glitter - they are really nice and look so cool and sparkly!!!!

3 A mild, if miserable day, so house stayed warm all day and as it got dark early had all the xmas lights on and it felt really xmassy and cosy in living room

4 Dh finally selling the vivarium so next week it should be gone and I get to open the side board draws again!!!

5 A lovely roast dinner which even dd ate (but I think that was because we sat Otis next to her watching her to make sure she ate it otherwise Santa would find out!!!)

How am I going to cope when Otis goes back to Santa!!! Will have to have something else come to stay for easter and summer holidays and halloween!! :P

    Evening all

I am normally just a "lurker" on this thread and love reading all your posts on here and feel as though I "know" a good few of you already as I so enjoy reading about your lives. SO thought that it was time that I posted myself as it makes you focus on the good things that happen. I have had such a lovely day today and feel that I should write them down to appreciate them even more.

1 Went early this morning to the bi-monthly farmers market, which was bustling and very Christmasy. The smells and sounds were lovely. Bought some lovely cheeses and some Buffalo beefburgers which we were given a sample of and they were gorgeous!

2 Went from there to a nearby shopping centre, there was a Salvation Army band playing christmas carols so OH and I sat listening to them drinking a hot chocolate, so peaceful with each other - real quality time!

3 Came home and cooked an easy meal from freezer that I had "batch" cooked weeks ago and OH saying how much he enjoyed it

4 Went for a drink this afternoon with DBs and DSiLs as they are all going away at Christmas, so was very festive, especially as the pub we met in is in the City Centre and there was a German Christmas Market just outside the door!

5 DD2 picked us up to give us a lift home (after years of being a taxi service to DDs it is lovely to have it reciprocated (sp?)

Sorry can I have a few more as it really has been a nice day

6 On way home in car DD told me to open glove compartment and in there as a surprise from both DDs was a new copy of "Its a Wonderful Life" the colour version! They had been shopping this afternoon and went to get it for me. I had looked for this after seeing it advertised on TV as it is my all time favourite film and although I already have the black and white version I really wanted the colour one. It was so lovely of them to buy it for me and let me have it now rather than Christmas so I can watch it before which is a bit of tradition in our house (involves us all sitting with Baileys and Christmas card writing!)

7 And finally the house smells wonderful from the huge SC full of braised red cabbage that I am doing to freeze for meals over Christmas (thanks to recipe ideas from the forum!)

    A lovely day x

    Weight loss since January 2011 - 5st 5 lbs!!!!!
  • 1) Sunday school this morning and we did lots of old fashioned games whilst waiting for costumes to be sorted out - Blind Man's Buff, Wink Murder and a version of Grandmother's Footsteps, but we had Santa being sneaked up on by the elves. Lovely.
    2) Baking this afternoon and I now have a couple of tins full. One with cookies and one with mince pies.
    3) DH went into the loft this afternoon, so we got rid of a couple of bits that have been waiting to go up and brought down the Christmas decorations. Still can't close the door on the upstairs cupboard but at least it's not poking out onto the landing...
    4) DH hung pictures and I decorated the Christmas tree. Sadly, our larger one is too big for this house, so I shall offer it round at work, but the little one is twinkling merrily (manically sometimes, depending on the setting).
    5) HM chicken soup and cookies for tea. Followed, tragically, by an enormous bag of crisps this evening. Never mind. I don't often do it.

Welcome to heavenleigh by the way. Love the name
  • Here are some of mine for the day:

    1) Putting the Christmas tree up and sitting here in flickering light.
    2) Making chocolate flapjacks yesterday and enjoying one for breakfast.
    3) Having dinner out today, so today's meal will now be tomorrow's, and therefore I won't have to go shopping for anything.
    4) Clearing out a couple of old bags. I feel the need to do a bit of a constructive clear-out.
    5) Watching The World's Fastest Indian last night. It is such a feelgood film.

I do feel a little bit better today, although I'm still a bit down. Thank you for the hugs - they are much appreciated. Welcome to the new arrivals, it's good to see you here. The positivity generated is contagious.

    Evening all:D

My 5 go like this today:-

    1) Waking up and hearing the rain outside and feeling so cosy snuggled up in bed. I always think the dark mornings feel so Christmassy.

    2) Escaping out to the local garden cente with DH to look at Christmas trees and decorations.

    3) Treating ourselves to some winter plants for the garden pots in Christmassy colours. Something to brighten up the gloomy days when I look out into the garden.

    3) Cooking us a lovely Sunday Roast with all the trimmings.

    4) Relaxing and enjoying a glass of wine and catching up with some missed TV.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend.

PS Hope you're feeling brighter soon Kitchenbunny, I can sympathise, I've had some really down days.

Nuttybabe - I'm glad that you're still getting the 'Otis effect'. I'm sad to report that my boys have let Ralph down with their behaviour today and they won't be getting their Day 6 gifts when Santa calls.

Ollie - Bless you! :A (Particular thanks for that chocolate hugs icon too!) a change of direction is hihgly likely. In fact, I'm ruling out applying for jobs in the same line / client group as my previous job until January. I'm hoping and praying that my dream job in the charity sector will be just around the corner and that this redundancy might have been meant to be, to let me finally find that niche.

Nomoneymummy - well done on your new job and well done on getting the house all ship-shape. I've been out of work for 5 weeks now and I still have lots of decluttering to catch up on.

Sublime and nicilou2 - welcome out of the shadows. They are a fab and friendly lot of folk on here and it's the ultimate feel-good thread.:j
    1. Although I'd set my alarm for 7.15, aiming to do some ironing, I'd been lying awake listening to the rain so turned it off and had 40 minute lie-in instead. DH brought me a very nice cup of tea (a penny a bag from Poundland).

    2. A phonecall from our now-teenaged godson, thanking us for the birthday gift we dropped through his door when he was out yesterday. He's lovely! We haven't seen him or his folks for far too long, even though we live within 10 miles. Had a chat and fixed for them to come round this side of Christmas, when we've resolved to fix some dates for 2010.

    3. A quick visit to my nephew and other godson - 14 today and growing up so fast. Another fine young man.

    4. DH agreed that we should cut out Sunday roasts for December (apart from when we have friends coming next weekend), to make the roast turkey more special. So we had half-priced, farm-shop sausage and mash at lunchtime and I treated us to some salad, houmous, ham and deli-counter whoopsies for tea ... followed by a £1 fruit strudel to share.

    5. I can't think of a worthy No.5 but I'm going for a nice bath and an early night now

Sleep tight and hear's to another week.

I've just done 40 minutes on the Wii (including 30 minutes of the step thing whilst watching Derren Brown) so I'm quite tired! Anyway, 5 for today:

    1) My Auntie coming to see me. She lives in Yorkshire so has only been here twice in 10 years! My sister and my mum came as well and we all had a cup of tea together.

    2) Continuing to keep on top of the housework, college work etc.

    3) Going to Ikea with my sons.

    4) Helping my little son decorate his "kitchen" (under the stairs!) He has put tinsel up and fairy lights and now serves the "food" whilst wearing a Santa hat!

    5) Getting to grips with bigger son's homework. I never was a maths whizz and today was faced not only with a homework sheet of long division but also another sheet with Carroll diagrams to fill in. I should point out that he is 9..... :-S

    Think that's about it.

Hiya to all the new posters :hello:

    My five for Sunday:

    1. Having a brainwave that we can shut down the sitting room for Christmas and not bother even to try to insulate or heat it. I'm going to move the computer to my bedroom so once that has gone from downstairs we can lose the coldest room in the house until the spring. :D We can put the Christmas tree and decorations in the kitchen/diner, keep the doors shut and use the extra heat from cooking and the heated clothes airer to top up the space heating. The telly is in there anyway. We just need to solve the problem of finding a warm covering for the stone dining floor area. DS2 suggested the washable picnic rugs for the kitchen section which is worth a go. Failing that, I may go in search of large pieces of cardboard box!

    2. Linked to the above - getting very distracted on the internet looking at rag rug making websites. Maybe the basket making will have to go on hold! I remember my paternal Grandad making latched hooked rugs when I was little. He made one for my maternal Gran's hearth and she had painted concrete floors in her house and no central heating. They both lived well into their nineties so maybe there's hope for me with the stone floor!

    3. Doing a quick shop at Mr S and looking at the quantities of Christmas stuff on sale. I'm secretly rather pleased that I am happy not needing or wanting to buy any of it. Over the years our Christmas has been simplified to something special to us that's very manageable and low-cost and it suits us.

    4. Catching up on the Archers on iplayer.

    5. Bought a new pot of treatsy hot chocolate from Mr S so am off to bed with a hottie, hot drink, fleecy blanket, the maths problem I couldn't solve earlier with DS2  (Acey, I sympathise!) and sudokus!

Night all and many more (((hugs))) to all that need them.
