Hope everyone had a good Sunday and can have a rest tomorrow as it's Bank Holiday

    1. Tootled along the M-ways to Henley, tried to make a NY res not to break speed limits but it's difficult when the rest of the world is pushing you on from behind . Anyway, surprised DM as I arrived in time for breakfast

    2. DB came over to DM's to say hello. I gave him a hm loaf which he always appreciates, then went off to buy a Panny for himself.

    3. Found a delicious red heavy silk dress to wear on holiday, there's to be a dinner dance on the beach after the last day of the convention and it's just pefect for that. It was reduced from £84 to £44, then at the til it was half-price day, so £22 :D. I'd normally buy from the charity shops but felt I could justify spending just a little of my windfall for such a special occasion. And it drapes beautifully so hides a few lumps and bumps!

    4. Looked for sarongs but none about at this time of year. Then I remembered the very inexpensive Indian fabric shop not too far away so will take a trip over there to get some fabric and make them myself

    5. DM was given a slanket-type thingy which she didn't want so offered it to me. It's just a big oblong of sort of fleecy material with sleeves. I accepted, saying it would certainly be put to good use...I didn't tell her I was just thinking of buying the doglet a new blanket. It's perfect, he's lying on it and enjoing it's comfort right now! ;)

    Night night, sleep tight

The whole day was spent at home. I haven't even opened the door to put the recycling out. DS2 is now coughing like anything but feeling better, DS1 is going down with the bug (and, without asking, helped himself to my secret-supply-of-cough-sweets-for-dire-emergencies which this wasn't)... oh joy. :(

    My five pleasures for today:

    1. Two out of two NSDs so far this year - it's going well!:D

    2. Made a very nice veggie stirfry with noodles for supper (improved with some fresh ginger and garlic that I found lurking in the fridge - should help the colds). I think I can manage to find things to do with the rest of the veggiebox's contents before Tuesday and may even not need to shop tomorrow which will be brilliant. I didn't quite finish last week's food shop so it's good news if I can get by without.

    3. Have done some more long term decluttering in the kitchen.

    4. The 60th Anniversary of the Archers double length programme this evening was absolute rubbish but I have very much enjoyed reading various blogs, tweets and message boards linked to it where most posters have also thought it was rubbish and have been very funny about it and it's made me laugh a lot.

    5. Managed to get two sets of DS2s bedding washed and nearly dried today.

Right. I'm off to make myself a hot chocolate and get to work on filling in this year's calendar before I crash out.

    Sleep well,

Broomstick - haven't listened to the 60th anniverary Archers yet as I'm ploughing my way through the omnibus.

    5 for today! (Sunday).

    1) Had another lie in! Woke at 11 but can't say I got up instantly.

    2) Had lunch made by MrN.

    3) Boys came back from their father's in a surprisingly good mood and we all sat in my bed to watch Halcyon River Diaries on iplayer.

    4) Got plenty of odd jobs done during the day and took the rest of the Christmas decorations down (the tree was put back in the garden a few days ago as the needles were falling and I want it to live for another few years before it goes into my brother's wood). MrN popped round to mend my tumble dryer again.

    5) MrN came round later and has just gone. Both in a better mood this evening with quite a few ideas of things we could be doing this year - little jobs on the houses etc. :-)

Morning, everyone! Here are my pleasures for yesterday. :)

    1. An NSD. The second of the New Year. I am determined to make this year the year of savings and general OSiness. If I'd thought about things a little more carefully I could have had another one today, but I need a small packet of mushrooms and a tin of pineapple chunks to make sweet and sour prawns with for tonight's tea. Might do a little research to see what I can do that doesn't involve them. ;)
    2. Sad to say, but we got the Christmas decorations all taken down and put away. The pleasure is that the house looks lovely and tidy again.
    3. DH did all the hoovering and dusting, and put a load of washing on. True, I've got ironing to do today, but there's not much and I don't mind. :)
    4. Toad in the Hole for tea last night. It really was a simple pleasure and didn't take long to knock up.
    5. Reversing onto the drive from the bottom of the road. A big deal for me, particularly as DH was in the passenger seat and we'd already had a mini-barney as I got a bit lost on the way home. :s We got it sorted out and after a little while of general male-i-ness he was OK. Bless him (hugs) Still, I don't like reversing, so that and reversing just fine into a parking space when we did go out was an absolute pleasure for me. It gives me confidence.

My sister dropped me a text earlier in the day yesterday to say there was a programme she'd skyplussed that showed you how to make clotted cream the old-fashioned way. :D As I thought, it turned out to be Edwardian Farm and I mentioned that I'd already seen it, but yay, my sister is looking at OSy things too. :)

Hope everyone has a good day.

    KB xx

mhagster - do hope you're not in the area of Queensland that has been affected by the floods. Sounds like it's made the New Year a misery for a large number of people.

No, Thankfully not. We are down at the bottom of Oz in Victoria. We have had a fair bit of rain since we got here & there has been localised flooding ......when it rains it rains! But luckily we are at the top of a hill in a very hilly area.
Your heart goes out to the people & communities affected by the flooding.

    Morning all,

    1. A long lie in this morning - still in bed now! I've got a headache and OH constantly coughing has clearly given me another disturbed sleep. So only feel a little guilty about a long lie in.
    2. Managed a meal at home yesterday evening - this would have been a classic time for us having a takeaway. Didn't enjoy mine much (M&S pie on offer for a quid) but it's the principle of eating at home.
    3. Had a lovely at home spa evening yesterday to help use up some toiletries stash/products as part of that challenge. Felt so much better afterwards. Maybe a quick shower this morning will help me feel better.
    4. Realising I am addicted to my netbook.... it's a pleasure as it's so easy to use in bed! I'm going to relocate it downstairs though as it's affecting my sleep.
    5. Realising my pleasures are a bit down beat - probably because throughout OH has been coughing (like has all morning). So will have a shower to freshen me up, change the bedcovers and give the house a good airing.

    Take care all :)
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!"
Less things. Less stuff. More life.
 Fab thread: Long daily walks

    Hi all

Had a lovely day today but I am a bit sad that it is the last day of holidays with DH, it has been a great few days, really peaceful, not a single argument (touch wood that it may remain so for as long as possible) and I know I shall really miss him in the daytime when he goes back to work. However I am also looking forward to getting back to my daily home routine without too much family hanging around at home in the daytime. Usually on workdays it is only me (housewife) and DS (unemployed)!

I need to add a pleasure for yesterday which was quite unexpected:

DD's BF and four other friends came to play board games with us, I had half-planned it with DD but had forgotten it, then she reminded me just as I was about to cook. So I said if they come along tell them to bring bits of food to share and we can have dinner all together, before playing games. They brought bread, cake and biscuits, I made extra roast potatoes and parsnips and a very large cabbage and carrot salad and we all spent a fantastic evening having a lot of fun playing "Best of British" which is a sort of Trivial Pursuit-type board game but all about British things. Boys vs Girls - sorry to say that the Boys wiped the floor with the Girls :-( then we moved on to Trivial Pursuits, played by Adults (me, DH and a 25 year old friend) versus kids (all the others, who are all around 21). The Adults absolutely thrashed the Kids! Amazing fun but bedtime at 2:30 am

Here are my pleasures for today:

1 - Despite a late late night, DH and I managed to get up before 9am to go out together on our last day of holidays.

2 - The weather is cold but nice, crisp and dry.

3 - We visited the Ministry of Food exhibition at the Imperial War Museum, using the 2 for 1 voucher from their website. It was the last day of the exhibition and very busy. I had already seen it (with the London OSers on a meet) but DH hadn't and he found it very interesting.

4 - Lunch at the cafe and free tea (me) and coffee (DH) with the tickets, part of the 2 for 1 voucher offer!

5 - Back home, hung the calendar and the clock (bought at the sales in summer but never used yet) on the kitchen wall.

6 - The front garden gave me enough greens to use for tonight's dinner.

7 - Edited to add: Resisted the urge to go to central London after the museum to look at the sales - it probably saved us quite a bit of money!

Have a great night everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
