    Happy New Year! 2011!

Here are my 5 or so - I think they might be rather mixed.

    1) Looked after MrN's son4 without incident all day then his son5 from about 4pm onwards and both got on well with my boys. They all seem to have survived unscathed, anyway!

    2) Took the library books back and wasn't charged for the cover being spoiled on "Leonardo da Vinci". (He fell off the piano on to the hardback cover and it ripped down the spine).

    3) Went to Sainsburys with my sons and MrN's son4 and got bits for the party.

    4) The party - I have been told it was very good. I was too busy cooking, getting drinks and getting stressed to know whether it was going well or not. There was me, my brother and sister, MrN and his youngest 3 sons and my 2 sons. We had lots of food and MrN went back for his guitar and some sheet music... then I opened the piano... then sister popped home to get her flute... then brother borrowed my son's cornet... Youngest 3 boys lay on my bed watching a DVD and we had various board games going too.

    5) A strange pleasure but something that needed to be done. I have mentioned on here before, I think, about really not knowing the "lie of the land" with MrN and wondering whether I am just a particularly "cuddly friend". Hmmm. I have had no idea whether I am his girlfriend or not, whether it is a secret and whether I am "allowed" to tell anyone. Well, midnight came and went and of course he had 3 sons lying all over him and I had 1 of mine on my knee. It's not that I expected any huge show of affection but I thought I might get a squeeze of the arm or something. But no...

... again all the usual insecurities came back - along the lines of "this is all jolly convenient for him, isn't it?" and they went home and I did a million tonnes of washing up. Then he popped back but didn't even come in the house. It was like I was possessed after that as suddenly, a rather terse text message with the whole problem in just "wrote itself" and got sent. :-S It was basically that I couldn't carry on if I was a secret and that I didn't even know if I was his girlfriend.

Cue some ferocious washing of the baking trays and MrN reappeared and said all the things you would want him to say. I am still too overwrought to believe it at the moment but I have taken on board that he did NOT say "Of course you're not my girlfriend, go away" so anything else is a bonus!

I think 5) is a pleasure. At least it's been said now and I never stand up for myself and say anything.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR

I have just lost a mega post trying to include everone, so just have one of these instead :grouphug: Grrrrr me and technology

Frith: Your party sounds fab and well done on sorting out the lie of the land!

5 Pleasures for the last day of 2010

    1. DD invited some friends over for a party but was working all morning, so I helped DH tidy house. Still not feeling great, but did my best!

    2. The bin men collected our rubbish. Lots of strike action in Bham at the moment, so collection is a bit hit and miss. DH also took a load of rubbish to the tip when he collected DD from work so back garden will be ready for this years growing projects.

    3. Made some hoi sin chicken bites in the slow cooker, from my new slow cooker recipe book, for the party. Turned out very well.

    4. Went for an evening dog walk along the canal with some friends. Stopped at Cafe Rouge for hot chocolate and people watching, (Using Merlin card for 20% off of course!)

    5. DD seemed to be enjoying her party when we got home, so tactfully hibernated in the front room until the home made Baileys made it impossible to keep my eyes open any longer! Missed actual New Year, but vaguely heard the 12 o'clock celebrations tucked up in bed!!

Thinking about an achievable resolution. Will let you know later if I come up with anything! Have a good day :j

I too did a very eloquent post earlier on & lost it! very frustrating & couldn't face writing it all out again at the time!
Watching 'Wizard of Oz 'on TV with dd2, no matter how many times I've seen it, it's still a lovely film!
    My pleasures included:
    1. A lovely evening spent at beach. Kids & OH were in sea swimming & playing on boogie boards. I sat on beach (don't 'do' sea) & read my book & watched them all & felt very content.
2.Watched a beautiful sunset........a totally free evening......picnic made from contents of fridge, lovely views.....slight reduction of temperature......35o at 7.30pm but felt cooler with light sea breeze.
3.We sat on dark beach for a while but mozzies started biting so we packed up & headed into the city.
    4. walked through a park where possums were playing & eating grass....we were able to see countdown to midnight on large screen then watched & heard the fireworks bringing in 2011.
5.came home to a very warm house, was still 26o at 1am. this time last year we didn't know what was happening & when it would happen.......knew it was in pipeline but didn't have a timescale. It was very unsettling. I knew I could not face another year of being apart from OH, however ,we are altogether now and it is happy new year.

Hope you all have a good 2011.

Frith: I had said in my earlier post, I'm a great believer in being true to your self. So, I think you did the right thing........and maybe he's been wondering the same thing!
    Enjoy your New Year's Day.

Welcome back, CCP! Good to see you again :)

Happy New Year to everyone! Here's to a productive and happy 2011. :) Here's my pleasures for yesterday:

    1. Celebrating the New Year with friends and generally having a good time. DH is a little better today too, which is good.
    2. I made cookies for everyone!
    3. We took my car, but DH kindly drove, bless him.
    4. We've not got a lot of Christmas food leftover. We do have most of a cheeseboard to eat up, but I shall find room ;)
    5. The thought of an Old Style Money Saving New Year, and all the enthusiasm starting a new project brings.

We'd left the heating on too, so when we got back it was nice and cosy. I think we'll take the tree down at some point today. My kitchen is in a bit of a state with de-cluttering old calendars and boxes but I'll get that sorted in a bit when I feel a bit better. I've a cold, I hasten to add, rather than overdoing it last night. At the mo I'm sneezing and a bit bunged up - hope it doesn't go any further than that. :s Here's to a Happy New Year.

    Evening all,

Had a fairly busy day and am now shattered and hungry!

    1. A home made coffee (well the coffee machine) - even the cat was interested in the frothy white milk.
    2. As part of the declutter challenge and in the spirit of creating a place for everything I bought myself a jewellery box today. And now all my (cheap!) jewellery is in it.
    3. Got rid of some old costume jewellery to the charity shop bag.
    4. That's all so far. :)
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!"
Less things. Less stuff. More life.
 Fab thread: Long daily walks

Hey, everyone, and happy New Year!

I know I've not been on for ages due to my travelling and I hope you will all forgive me - I've not forgotten my MSE friends and think of you often. I very much want to really get into Old Style living again when I get back to the UK - October this year!

I've not been able to read all your posts so I will just send hugs to you all.

I am fine and enjoying life here in Sucre, Bolivia. Sucre is a fabulous World Heritage town and I'm basing myself here for two months in order to brush up my rusty schoolgirl Spanish. I am to leave South America speaking the language really fluently and am taking lessons every afternoon.

I've also joined a local gym (costs about £4.50 per MONTH!!!). All in all, life is good here.

Anyway, I will keep visiting from time to time to say hello and to wish you all the best.

Evening all, and happy new year!

savingforoz - it's lovely to hear from you - it sounds like you're having a great time on your travels. I've just done a quick google on Sucre and it sounds a really interesting place - I'm ashamed to say I'd never heard of it until now. :o

Kitchenbunny - hope you get over your cold soon - horrible things!

Frith - I'm glad your party went well, and good for you for straightening things out with Mr N. I hope things go more smoothly for you now you both have a better idea of where you stand.

    My pleasures for today:

    1) Either a late one for yesterday or a very early one for today, depending on how you look at it - a near neighbour setting off fireworks at midnight, which were close enough and bright enough that I could see them through the blinds on my bedroom window, so I could lie in bed with the cat and watch them. :D

    2) A very long lie-in this morning after a dreadful night's sleep - my bargain curry turned out to be not such a bargain as it kept me awake for most of the night with tummy ache. :(

    3) Did some online research for my new bread machine, which will be paid for with the money my grandmother gave me for Christmas. I'm thinking of getting this one - I don't suppose anyone's got one of these and can tell me if it's any good?

    4) Ordered a late Christmas present for the cat - a fairly traded ceramic bowl to put his water in, taking advantage of a free delivery code I've been sent. :money: (OK, I know the cat couldn't care less what his water's in - the main purpose is to stop me kicking over the current plastic water bowl every time I go in the kitchen!)

    5) A phone call from my sister, which is nice in itself and also a minor miracle as she almost never phones when she says she will.

    6) HM pizza for dinner, which will use up a pepper I put in the fridge before Christmas, forgot about, and which is miraculously still edible.

Have a nice evening, and a lovely 2011, everyone.
Back after a very long break!
  • Evening all. Welcome to 2011, lets hope it's a good one. Mine for today,
    1. Seeing in the new year wrapped in someones arms - just wonderful!
    2. A lovely long walk with the dog, everyone I came across wishing me a happy new year.
    3. Being able to cheer up a couple of friends who found this time of year very difficult for one reason or another.
    4. Taking down the christmas decorations. It wasn't me being miserable, honest. Christmas was a bit of a non-event this year so it felt quite good to be putting it all behind me.
    5. Being able to clean properly thanks to number 4.
    Love to all. X

Sorry I haven't posted for ages, had a difficult situation at work and got distracted. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year. Here are a few of my pleasures over the past few months whilst I'm gradually working my way through posts since the end of October(!)

    1) seeing Mum now settled at sheltered housing scheme, great that she's now warm and cared for especially with the recent cold spell
    2) Friends of our local library holding a Christmas evening including disco, Santa's grotto, craft activities and Magician - all free and only paid £1 for raffle tickets
    3) winning quarter bottle of champers and truffles in the raffle
    4) dd buying dh, me and dsd presents from the 'secret room' at her school Christmas fayre
    5) moglets' antics after we put up the Christmas tree, it's artificial, the kind where you stick the branches into a central 'trunk' so, for example, they've disovered that climbing up inside the tree is such fun :)
    6) a mischievous Christmas elf visiting dd this year, and playing all sorts of tricks
    7) dd unwrapping her Christmas presents
    8) picking up M&S half price beef roasting joints and reduced chicken with stuffing on Christmas Eve all now in freezer
    9) having a very non-mse local Indian takeaway on Christmas Eve
    10) enjoying Christmas dinner, with Aldi turkey crown, even though I say so myself...
    11) snaffling clothing bargains in the post-Christmas sales
    12) John Bishop Live DVD being even better than we thought it would be
    13) doing half an hour on the new Wii Active this morning, after a three month break
    14) watching Mikes mob on DIY SOS, how great the people on this forum are
    15) Frith its great to hear about you and Mr. N best wishes for the future
"We have to be kind because everyone is fighting a great, great battle" - Sir Richard Attenborough
"There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women" - Madeleine Albright

    Evening all,

So nice to hear from SavingforOz - I am green with envy!!

Likewise Girlysquare - lovely to have you back!

Beachbaby - and who did you wake up with?? hmm? Just be careful, ok?

    1) I have be exceptionally lazy today and am still in my jammies. If you can't do it on New Years Day then when can you??

    2) Read a little more of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I have been avoiding reading it because it has been so popular but a friend lent them to me so I thought I had better read the series.

    3) Spent most of the afternoon snuggled up with the mog.

    4) Tidied the lounge - tomorrow I will start on the bedroom... eek! It is urgent need a declutter.

    5) Put up my new loo roll holder. I have lived in my flat for nearly 4 years and finally got round to getting the holder... now I just have to get one for the handtowel.....

    Night night

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
