Happy last Day of 2010!

I must make a resolution to post more in 2011. It does make me focus on the positives and you meet such nice people too! :)

2. Watching DIY SOS tonight. I'd followed the story on MSEearlier in the year and had kept the threads bookmarked so dipped in from time to time. Lovely 'feel good' outcome and a real result for MSEers, especially Mike.

Thanks for this Broomstick. Well done MSE! (DS2 was so impressed he was all for calling the programme to get them to come and finish our house!)

5 For Yesterday

1. Shopping for food and sticking to the list.

2. Watching DIY SOS.

3. Repairing DD's new dress. She got an extra 10% off because there was a hole in a seam, but now it is as good as new. :)

4. Making a recipe from my new Nigella book for tea.

5. Listing some more bits on Ebay. Let the de-clutter begin!:j

Preparing for DD's little New Year party tonight. We will be hibernating in the front room! Must crack on.

First apologies to Pam and Broomstick who must by now realise old age and confusion are definitely taking hold! It was Broomstick who mentioned the DIY SOS programme so thanks to her for that. I did watch it, and was on the edge of my seat as the property they were finishing was literally a stones throw from our second residential home, if it hadn't been for the new building with the archway in the background I could almost have seen it! What a wonderful thing they did for that family, the poor chap was trying to be so British stiff upper lip but didn't know what to do or say. Thank you again for the link, I got a huge amount of pleasure from it for more than one reason :D.
funkeymonkey congrats on the le Creuset casserole, what a dream come true. Amazing what pleasure we can get from kitchenware ;). See my No3
Blimus well done DS2 braving the sleep out, hope he comes back raring to go to another. Good that they allowed DS1 to go as well
Ladyhawk congrats on booking your flights, what an adventure! You made me smile when you mentioned meeting up with a friend 'next year' - so far in the future :D
Caterina I looked up salt lamp, what a super thing. It's going on my wish list. Should be very relaxing in your bedroom
mineallmine I'm just wondering if there's any jelly left;). Some men are easily pleased, wish they were all like that!
beachbaby Yes You Can, and did! Congrats on getting your life back, you've done brilliantly so I think I'd nominate you in the New Years Honours List :T
Mhags hope you have a great time at the beach and it's a little cooler there
Frith I always love your No 4 or 5, and now a new sig. How exciting is that! :D
Kitchenbunny well done on the Mr M vouchers (didn't know about those and Mr M is the only shop in my village!) sounds like a real bargain. You'd better remember not to drive after 'taste testing' all those chocolates ;)
mollie it must have been like Christmas all over again getting all the parcels. Well done on the sales bargains :)
Rebekah the charity shops would be more than grateful for anything you don't want, or why not try the free listing weekends on ebay? You can make a few pennies to buy slimmer clothes that way :)
house elf congrats on the declutter, and sticking to a shopping list. Impossible for me, I should make that my NYR!

1. DNeighbour bought a chain with a plastic pendant for £3.50p in a charity shop. She took it to a jeweller as she couldn't make out the mark on the chain and they offered her £80 for it! (No doubt some will say that's cheating, I'm open-minded about it. Honestly, what would you do if you were a single mum at Christmas ;)?)
2. Bought next years cards and 4 rolls of generic gift wrap for the princely sum of £4.65p.
3. Went into the charity shop and got 4 blue le Creuset ramekins for £1.49p!!!!!:D
4. Went to the bank to pay in the windfall cheque and asked about my ISA rate. They suggested one at a higher rate, only another .5% but every penny counts :j
5. 'Discovered' that by cutting wraps in half I can put in just as much salad/filling, and the wraps last twice as long. Now why didn't I know that before? :o

Wishing you all a very Happy, Peaceful and Prosperous OS New Year, may it bring you all you wish for, and more

Afternoon all - I'm back! :hello:

I haven't had a chance to catch up on everyone's Christmas posts yet (and I'm not sure when / if I will get the chance, tbh :o), but I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and Father Christmas bought you all the presents you wanted. :)

Having been away for several days I'm struggling slightly to get back into the swing of everyday life, so I'm hoping that posting pleasures will help:

1) A nice lie-in in my own bed.

2) I've managed to successfully remove the stains on my living room carpet. (The friend who looks after my cat while I'm away always gives him too many cat treats, despite me asking her not to, and it tends to have terrible effects on his digestive system. My friend always does her best to clear up so it doesn't smell, but thorough cleaning has to wait until I get home - just what you want on your first day back from holiday. :()

3) A cup of coffee and a slice of my dad's HM cider apple cake when I got home from the supermarket. (A 90 minute visit to pick up less than a dozen items - I am never, ever going to the supermarket on New Year's Eve again.)

4) Putting on the furry slipper boots my mum bought me for Christmas - they're so nice and warm. :)

5) Posh curry from the supermarket for dinner tonight - a nice treat, but cheaper than getting a takeaway. :money:

Have a lovely, safe New Year's Eve, all, and Happy New Year! (For those in Australia, New Zealand, etc, anyway!) smiley-greet006.gif

Evening all,

Fireworks already started here and driving the dog mad!

1. Surprising OH with the jelly - he thought I'd offered to make one and was chuffed when he realised I'd already made it. Bless.
2. Big cuddle with the dog.
3. Setting off to town today on a mission and accomplishing all of it. All MSE bargains too.
4. Decluttering enough to create a space in the bedroom - yikes!
5. May give the midnight thing a miss tonight. I usually do stay up and insist OH does too. Think I'd rather get up earlier tomorrow and get lots done.

Happy New Year everyone :)
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

:D Sparrer, how lovely about the double pleasure!

My five for today:

1. Walked into town which was very pleasant in the dry non-snowy conditions.

2. Bought a load of sewing bits and pieces because the shop was shut yesterday. My boxes of haberdashery are looking really well stocked up now and my material stash is sorted with all the second hand fabric and unpicked clothes washed and ironed to make new things so I'm ready to go.

3. I treated myself to a new pair of shoes (ordered over the phone, a style I have owned before). I have spent less than £50 on clothing for me over the whole of the last two years and I don't own an ordinary pair of shoes atm, just trainers and walking boots, so I feel really justified in getting these. Just have to wait for the delivery now.

4. Packed away the tree and Christmas decorations for another year. We always put them up at Solstice and take them down on New Year's Eve. It's lovely seeing them for this little window of time.

5. Grateful that my children and I have lived for another year with lots of good things happening and few difficult or sad ones. The balance has been positive and I feel very fortunate :).

Wishing you all a fabulous 2011 packed full of good things too.

Evening all,

welcome to the labour and imminent birth of 2011. May it be a healthy and happy one for all of you and the best of last year be the worst of next.

1) Left work at 1pm

2) Popped into the local outlet centre and managed to avoid buying anything except a loo rollholder for £2.50 (marked down from £10)

3) Stopped at W@itrose on the way home and picked up a few bargains

4) Seeing photos of my friend's 4 day old baby. I can admit it to my virtual friends... I am a little broody after seeing them. Little Erica is gorgeous!

5) Making myself a lovely NYE dinner of YS seabass with rocket and parmasan butter(45p), mash (5p), YS cabbage (10p) and carrots (5p) along with a bottle of cider which I got for Christmas.

night all - hope you have a lovely celebratory evening.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

Hello and HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you!

Got to be quick as I do not want to leave DH all alone downstairs on New Year's eve!

Here are my pleasures for today:

1 - Lovely porridge breakfast in bed, courtesy of DH, his signature dish!

2 - Trip to Borough Market with DH to get veg for dinner, but the veg I wanted was not there (romanesco cauliflower - that green pointed one) so I got a lot of other stuff instead!

3 - Neals Yard 50% off sale, got some very nice face creams for very little money (I needed them anyway and am delighted to have got them so cheap, am stocked up for the next few months at least now!).

4 - A dear friend popped in for a cup of tea and she had her knitting with her (amazing socks done on circular needles), so it prompted me to get my (interminable) jumper out and now I have got as far as shaping the armholes!

5 - DS stayed and had dinner with DH and me (DD is out with her BF and other friends). We had a spectacularly lovely meal.

6 - We were joined by a friend of DS's who had pudding with us and then persuaded DS to go out with her, which is great (he had been mopey and said that he "could not be bothered going out celebrating"). We are delighted that he went out and will hopefully have a lot of fun.

7 - Committed to take part to the no-supermarket-shopping month challenge!

See you all in the next year, dear friends!!!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
