5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Happy new year everyone :j I hope this is the start of a happy and healthy new year for us all!
Pleasures to report on:-
1) Lovely meal out with my friend and her family to celebrate her 60th, last night. Really enjoyed myself, including being able to wear the dress I bought that was too tight, and which prompted me to do WW. Felt good!
2) Felt really welcomed and included by said friend and family. She's been widowed for 20 yrs (OH died very tragically) and raised 3 brilliant children who are now adults with their own young children.
3) Enjoyed watching the DIY SOS programme (on BBC iPlayer) featuring Mike from MSE, who was ripped off by cowboy builders. I really thought it was brilliant how MSE'ers contacted the BBC to suggest that he was given help, and have supported him. I really was choked up seeing how happy he and his boys were to have a home again :j
4) No more dread about having to go back to work after the holiday - wonderful feeling!
5) Have pretty much decided which cooker to get after much scouring round on the internet - but unsure about fan ovens. Anybody any views on them - are they better/worse than conventional ovens?
Hope everyone is well - and that there aren't too many hangovers around today :rotfl:

Pam: I have had a fan oven past 10 years & have been happy with them, you just need to adjust your timings as they will cook things slightly quicker.
I am having to re -adjust to a gas oven in our new house over here, things seemed to take an age to cook & things were being burned from the bottom of dish.......however, I think I might have got it sorted!0 -
Happy New MSE Year.
Savingforoz :hello: glad to see you again. Frith, well done for going for getting the information you needed.
My five for today:
1. First NSD of the year. I'm planning an awful lot of these in 2011.
2. Finished knitting sock #1 at last. The toe (or gap where it should have been) has been staring at me all over Christmas but I've fathomed out the pattern (a new one) and I've got it to work.
3. Made a really good supper of haddock baked with butter, lemon and onion, and steamed carrots, brussels and spuds. Really tasty and everyone said they'd like it again so it's a new regular meal I think.
4. Our telly died on Christmas Eve, which was not the plan, but I'm soooo pleased. We had it in the kitchen which put me off being in there because I couldn't stand most of the stuff that was being watched. Over the holidays we have made do with a laptop and iplayer in the sitting room and that has worked very well with only a few grumbles about stuff that wasn't available online. I think the DSs have got used to this arrangement very quickly and now I can listen to Radio 4 or Classic FM while I'm cooking which makes me much more enthusiastic about the whole idea. A new telly is so far down my 2011 priorities list it doesn't even feature! I won't tell that to the DSs just yet though.;)
5. Enjoying the way the holiday dates and weekends have worked out over the Christmas/New Year break, everything round here feels as if it is much quieter than last year. I think lots of people have made a very long week of it.
Sweet dreams everyone,

Hope everyone had a good New Years Eve, and the best of 2010 will be the worst of your 2011.
Welcome back CCP, GirlySquare and savingforoz :hello:
Pam I have a fan oven and love it, it cooks evenly in the top, middle and bottom ulike my last elec cooker. The only difference is it's a little noiser but hardly noticable after a while.
1. A nice lie-in, lazy shower and got ready to go out at my own pace. I seem to have two these days, slow and dead slow. This morning I used the faster one
2. Went to coffee with a friend who asked me to stay for lunch with her and her visiting family, took some persuading as, like a lot of people, I'm not really comfortable eating with strangers but it was fine. Lunch was delicious and the company was great fun
3. nsd, really going for as many as poss this year
4. Completed a survey which brought me up to level for applying for a shopping voucher. Good start to the NY and going for as many of those as poss, too
5. Visiting DM tomorrow so not a nsd, but have got a voucher for double Nectar points when I buy petrol
Night night, sweet dreams

Two last pleasures to make up to my 5 for yesterday:
4. bacon sarnie for tea!
5. cat cuddle whenever I'm on the netbook, then noticed she sits near where it emits a tiny bit of heat. Talk about heat seeking missile!
Nightall.Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!" Less things. Less stuff. More life.Fab thread: Long daily walks

5 for yesterday (New Year's Day). Might not actually be 5, was a very quiet day.
1) Children went to their father's so I went back to bed after they left in the morning and didn't wake up until 1pm!
2) Had a nice phone call with them at 7pm.
3) Went round to MrN's in the afternoon for lunch and didn't go home until bedtime. :-)
4) Longest lasting cold in the history of colds has nearly gone.0 -
Hello all
I have not been on the Forum at all for about 6 months due to family commitments. Many of the names I recall do not seem to be appearing now BUT I just wanted to say Happy New Year to you all and thanks for the help you gave me earlier in 2010 when I really needed your support.
Hope 2011 is a happy, healthy and financually secure one for you all and I do intend to pop in from time to time to catch up with you all.
xxThank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0 -
Belated Happy New Year to you all!
1 I had a very quiet Hogmanay.I did a lot of housework that I hadn't managed to do earlier on in the week. Then,in the evening watched 'The African Queen' and saw in the New Year with a glass of fizzy water.Shameful admission:I've still not been first-footed!
2 Work yesterday and today quiet and pleasant.I got off early both days.
3 I've started reading Micheal Connelly's latest 'The Reversal' (a present).
4 Praise at work for the HM Black Bun I took in.
5 Did my stretches yesterday.Must get back into a routine again.
Savingforoz glad you're well and having fun!TC.
Wishing you all a good evening x0 -
1. We're having a lazy New Year week-end but did manage to start the diet and my usual no-alcohol January yesterday. (Don't know how long the willpower will last though).
2. Nice walk yesterday and managed a brief session on our local outdoor gym.
3. We took the Christmas tree, cards and decorations down this morning and everything is packed away in the loft again. Had a thorough vacuum and dust around afterwards and felt quite relieved to have everything "over and done with" and the place looking back to normal again.
4. Delicious joint of lamb today which will will last a couple of days. Once that's finished we'll go back to trying to run down storecupboard and freezer items. Perhaps some austerity discripline will be good for my soul ?
5. Do I detect it was a few minutes later than the normal 4 p.m. before having to close the curtains this afternoon? At least that's one cheerful thing looming in the distant horizon.0 -
Hi everyone!
Hope everyone's having a good day and gearing up ready for the new year. A few of my pleasures today:-
1) This is the 2nd new year that I haven't had to think 'I must give up smoking' :j
2) My sleeping has improved 100% since I took redundancy at work. I will need to find a bit of part time work at some point, but for now, it is heaven not to go to bed stressed and in a bad mood about the company I worked for
3) Got £5 off my food shopping at Morrisons thanks to the voucher I got through collecting points for petrol - and their petrol is the cheapest round here, so it's a real saving
4) Picked up a couple of non-food bargains in the supermarket that will come in nicely for presents
5) Managed to get a light fitting I wanted for the bathroom for half price in the sale at 'Focus DIY'
Hope all are well,
Pam x
PS Thanks for the replies about fan ovens - it's made my mind up that I'll go for one of these :j0
