Just thought of another BIG one!

    6. I've been desparately looking for thin 'floaty' type dresses for my holiday in Feb but nervous to buy on line in case they don't fit and I have the bother of returning them, and nothing like that in the shops at this time of year. Took the bull by the horns and tried on the 4 that I have, to see if I could possibly squeeeeeeeze into any of them which I couldn't 6 months ago. They all went on with no trouble, just got to get rid of a bit of tummy so they hang better. In true OS fashion if you'll pardon the pun, I've saved lots of pennies on clothes, just need to do a few :j :j :j over the next 6 weeks :D

You must've felt soooooo good that they fitted nicely...........that bit of tummy will be well gone in 6 weeks.
Even if you don't 'diet', why don't you try cutting down (NOT out) the carbs, especially bread...............makes SUCH a difference to me.

Anyway, everyone seemed happy with their gifts, I got some lovely jewellery , a beautiful diary (I like to write!) lovely pen and Nigella's Kitchen. It was so expensive over here as books are (well everything really!) and I felt I couldn't justify the price for a cookery book. So was delighted to get it, I enjoy her style of writing & could quite happily just read ,rather than cook!

What lovely gifts! I too love just reading some cookery books.

We then went to beach, quick journey as roads were quieter. Not sunny but warm & just nice but different to go to a beach on Christmas day! Had a picnic !

    How lovely!

So a good 2 days, different in some ways, similar in others but you know what, we are here as a family of 5 all the time. Last year, apart from Christmas, my OH had been home for 6 weeks in the whole year. So yes we have left behind family & friends (& that is hard at times) but we are here in a wonderful, new country with beautiful birds & flowers & purple trees (match my new diary!) ,together every day. And that means so much to me.

    I don't think I really need to put a comment, do I? :D;)

    have rattled on a bit, haven't I....oops!

I looooove reading your posts...........ALWAYS make me feel all warm and content.

  • Frith - I remember always asking for Lego as a girl. And yep, Mum and Dad always helped me out in making it. Really fancy playing with some again, actually.
Ladyhawk - Enjoy Dubai! That sounds great, and so does your cashmere coat.
Sparrer - Annie Lennox’ voice is amazing, and so is the Cornucopia CD - enjoy it. :) Well done on the dresses fitting!
Frugalpam - Thanks for the tip about half price Boots’ stuff. I shall be going there today :D
Caterina - I’ve just been getting into Edwardian Farm ;) Your brunch sounds gorgeous!
Broomstick - Again, another gorgeous sounding brunch :D I love practical presents.
Mhagster - I’d love to go to the beach on Christmas Day. One year, I will. :)

    - I bet the magenta highlights look fab though. Hope you feel better soon - ‘flu is awful :( (hugs)

Ah, I like early mornings. As I couldn't sleep, DH is still in bed trying to catch up on a bit of kip and I've got up and put some part-baked petit pains (those little bread roll thingies) in the oven. Now I'm sat with a cup of tea, the house smelling of fresh bread, and some of the finished article spread with some butter for my breakfast. I can hear the woodpecker in the garden again, but he's such a flighty thing that if I go to the window to have a look he'll fly off. I'll just let him be. :) Anyway, here's my pleasures for yesterday:

    1. Going out for a walk. There's still a bit of snow around - more ice, actually, but it was nice to get out in the fresh air for a bit. We only walked about a mile, but that's a good start.
    2. I was going to make ham and chicken fritters for tea last night, but DH suggested a jambalaya, so that's what I did. And it was good.
    3. Watching Oz and Hugh with their programme about opening a bar, and going around sampling various kinds of drink. Funny and informative, as they had a go at making their own Irish cream! I've always wondered how that's done.
    4. Top Gear. They do get themselves into some scrapes. There was some good TV on last night. :)
    5. The kitchen feels a bit more back to normal now. It's tidier, and we got a lot of washing done yesterday.

Hope everyone has a good day. I'm going to enjoy my breakfast. :)

(((hugs))) to those in need, and feel better to those who are less than healthy. :)

Drop them a note after Christmas saying you hope they had a good time and how sensible it is in these cash strapped times not to be doing presents and cards any more so next year you'll be joining them :rotfl:

not normally one to post outside my 5 but I did appreciate this. Will def be using it for my selfish, rolling-in-money brother and his 2 very comfortably off adult children who always get a joint gift from me - usually a water well or similar in Africa plus a small M&S voucher each as they wouldn't shop anywhere less, doncha know! Meanwhile I don't even get a measly phone call on Christmas Day, or any other time of year in fact :(

Should I spend my hard earned survey/poll earnings on them ever again? I know the answer, but I, at least, have certain standards and better manners :p

House is quiet, so time to post. Hope everybody has recovered their Christmas equilibrium.

    1. A thaw seems to be setting in. How nice to be able to open some windows and let some fresh air into the house! I was beginning to feel we were slowly gassing ourselves through lack of oxygen. I always feel more invigorated after a blast of fresh air.

    2. Am looking out of the window. A huge flock of gulls have suddenly appeared and are dive-bombing a garden in the nearby vicinity. Looks like somebody may have thrown out the remains of their Christmas turkey. (Obviously not anybody who posts on the Old Style board here who would be conscientiously turning it into a delicious stock for soup :rotfl:)

    3. Our recent green parakeet visitors have returned to the garden again this morning. Am hopeful that now they've found a regular food source they will engtertain us with their presence more often.

    4. OH's local football match this afternoon is cancelled, so I shall enjoy his presence. Hoping that he will use the time to have a long overdue clear-out of all his paperwork in the study is probably too much to hope for though!

    5. Potting up the black amarallys which was one of our Christmas presents, so something to look forward to seeing blooming in the weeks again. Our Chjristmas hyacynths have been lovely.

    6. And knowing that the shortest day is now behind us. That's always a winter milestone for me.

Just popped in for a quick read and remembered that I always meant to say to you, Primrose, that your name reminds me of the Brambly Hedge Books by Jill Barklem. Primrose is a mouse. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brambly-Hedge-Autumn-Primrose-Harvest/dp/0006640699) I've just googled it and have discovered that you can get a Royal Doulton Primrose  and even a knitting pattern for a primrose (at £25 plus on ebay:eek: )

We had some of the earliest books on story tapes and my boys loved them when they were little. Really cosy, comforting stuff which got listened to again and again.

The Brambly Hedge stories are definitely OS and MSE. :D

    Hi all

Quickly in for a catch up before going out (for the first time since Christmas Eve YAY!) to buy replacement batteries for the fire alarms - just soooo fed up with the intermittent beeping in the middle of the night, and in the day too!

Dundeedoll - I did not make the panettone (I wish!), it came ready-made in the Approved Food order! But thanks for your kind words about my food anyway!

House elf, good to see you posting again but sorry about your flu, hoping that your wintery walks start soon again (((HUG)))!

Kitchenbunny, re. Edwardian Farm ;) join the queue! :rotfl:Have a look here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2844208
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Hello everyone,

    Hope you are all well.

    1) I woke up at 1.30am and read my book until it was time to go to the Next sale. I have never seen such a long queue for the sale... I was there for 2 hours in the freezing cold - shopped for 10-15 minutes then was in the payment queue for another 45minutes. I'm not sure that it was worth it.

    2) I then decided to drive to Milton Keynes to see if I could spend some Jon Lewis vouchers that I have accumulated - I got a lovely new pressure cooker for £35. I also picked up a few bits and bobs in M&S. Note to self... stop going anywhere that sells stuff for at least the next 2 weeks!

    3) Decided to treat myself to some smoked salmon for supper. I baked some yummy bread to go with it.

    4) Made some progress in the Great End of Year tidy up. It will continue tomorrow.

    5) Cuddles with the kitty on the sofa all afternoon and evening... always a pleasure!

I have managed to do something to my left shoulder which seems to be getting worse. I am seeing my brothers tomorrow for lunch and two of them are doctors so I might see if they have any ideas on it.

    Have a great evening!!

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Evening everyone!
Feeling decidedly brighter today - a few pleasures to report:-

    1) It RAINED all day and a lot of snow has melted :j:j:j:j
    2) Met up with a friend to have a look round the sales - got a beautiful jacket half price. I'd really wanted this but wasn't prepared to buy it at full price in the autumn
    3) Puddy tat is in the most lovely snuggly mood, and we've both enjoyed the cuddles today
    4) My WW weigh in today - not suprisingly after that bug I've lost a couple more pounds and now have reached the 1 stone lost mark
    5) It's coming up to my 2 year quit smoking anniversary in a few short weeks

I've enjoyed very much reading about what everyone is up to - hope everyone who's been under the weather is soon feeling lots better

    Evening Peeps

    Another sofa day! :(

    5 pleasures from the sofa....................

    1. The Other Bolyn Girl.

    2. Listed 11 items on EBay.

    3. Leftovers for lunch and dinner.

    4. Managed to do some washing during rare moments of energy!

    5. DS2 invited a friend over to play. It was only when I caught a glimps of myself in the mirror, as I closed the front door, when his dad dropped him off, that I remembered I had pink hair....... Very wild pink hair  and a very pale face. The poor daddy must have thought he was leaving his son with Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton! :rotfl:

Hope everyone is on the mend ((Hugs)) HE x
