5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Just thought of another BIG one!
6. I've been desparately looking for thin 'floaty' type dresses for my holiday in Feb but nervous to buy on line in case they don't fit and I have the bother of returning them, and nothing like that in the shops at this time of year. Took the bull by the horns and tried on the 4 that I have, to see if I could possibly squeeeeeeeze into any of them which I couldn't 6 months ago. They all went on with no trouble, just got to get rid of a bit of tummy so they hang better. In true OS fashion if you'll pardon the pun, I've saved lots of pennies on clothes, just need to do a few :j :j :j over the next 6 weeks0 -
ooh - a sneaky 6th - my gorgeous friend W phoned from Dubai this evening to arrange for me to go to visit him next month... flights are chosen... now I just nned to pay for them.... woohoo!!

I think the last straw was making sure cards and presents were posted in time for them to receive them for Christmas, and not one of them even bothered to send me a card.
Sorry to go on folks, I feel very sad and very upset today
Pam x
Drop them a note after Christmas saying you hope they had a good time and how sensible it is in these cash strapped times not to be doing presents and cards any more so next year you'll be joining them :rotfl:0 -
Sparrer: I need to join you in your:j, I brought lots of lovely dresses & tops with me but have put on the equivalent of 2 bags of sugar & they are too tight! So I need to get back into a routine & stop eating rubbish (nice rubbish tho!) I really feel the extra few pounds especially in the heat.
Well, you all sound as you had a good time over Christmas Day. We had a different kind of day to usual, nice just different!
Frith:we had to try & quietly bring things from one end of very long house to the other, past the bedrooms, fill DS's stocking which has jingly bells on it( never thought of this when we bought him it as a baby.....tis a challenge every year!), walking on very noisy floorboards!
I remembered at 3 am that I had forgotten 1 thing, got stool out ,climbed up high & found bag of more stocking fillers, so back along noisy floor etc to fill them!
Then woken with Elf like cry of 'It's Christmas!' by dd1 at early o'clock.
Normally we would open stockings in our room then go down & see if Santa has been , glistening, shiny tree lights , excitement building......mmm not quite the same effect with bright sunshine pouring in room!
Anyway, everyone seemed happy with their gifts, I got some lovely jewellery , a beautiful diary (I like to write!) lovely pen and Nigella's Kitchen. It was so expensive over here as books are (well everything really!) and I felt I couldn't justify the price for a cookery book. So was delighted to get it, I enjoy her style of writing & could quite happily just read ,rather than cook!
We then went to beach, quick journey as roads were quieter. Not sunny but warm & just nice but different to go to a beach on Christmas day! Had a picnic !
back home & had a traditional dinner which was lovely,my sister skyped us just as we were at starter, so quick chat but called back later. We were just nearly finished main course when we heard bagpipes playing in a neighbouring back garden.........tears to my eyes!
No room for pud till later then bed where I zonked out!
Boxing Day, had a beautiful breakfast of scrambled eggs made from lots of yolks left over from making pavlova for pud. We watched 2 programmes back to back which were set in Scotland. One was Gryff Rhys Jones Mountains & the other was Monty Halls, Beachcomber Cottage. This was filmed in Applecross, where we had holidayed last year. So that was lovely to see both .
Then we hit the sales! Seems like everyone else had the same idea!
Parking was a nightmare & then only got a 90minute space, long queues....however, I did get a very pretty bag for 1/2 price. Headed home & generally relaxed for rest of day.
So a good 2 days, different in some ways, similar in others but you know what, we are here as a family of 5 all the time. Last year, apart from Christmas, my OH had been home for 6 weeks in the whole year. So yes we have left behind family & friends (& that is hard at times) but we are here in a wonderful, new country with beautiful birds & flowers & purple trees (match my new diary!) ,together every day. And that means so much to me.
It's 8.15am, house is lovely & quiet, everyone else is still sleeping. I love this quiet time to myself.Going to have a wee potter about & tidy up a wee bit! (not too much tho'!)
Hope you all have a good day/night! Keep warm & well x
have rattled on a bit, haven't I....oops!0 -

Seeing DD's elasticy armed hug smilie.:)
Being able to take advantage of a slightly overweight cuddly cat to keep warm.
A selection of quality street and other chocs supplied by my sister when I told her I had absolutely no junk in the house! Now I have - yay.
The above made me smile, larmy!Kitchenbunny wrote: »1. Roasting a chicken for yesterday's lunch. We had lovely meat for sandwiches as that was all DH felt he could manage and there are 2 big tubs of leftover chicken and the 2 legs remaining! All bagged up and in the fridge, where my next challenge is to make something different and tasty with these leftovers. As I didn't use the juices for gravy, I've kept them and will use them in a similar way to stock next time I make a soup or risotto.
2. Ditto a gammon joint I baked on Christmas Eve. There's still lots left and that's in the fridge too.
I'll admit to being a little tired today. Anyway, I'm off to trawl the threads re: leftover chicken and gammon to see what else I can make. Have a good day to everyone, and (((hugs))) to those in need.
KB xx
You do sound VERY organised KB! I had a look at the moulds and they're lovely - silicone stuff is FAB!2. Got all I really wanted, money for a lawn mower, a garden clock, garden vouchers so I can buy my patio pear trees...there's a definite theme there, they know me so well
3. Back to normal today, a lunchtime meeting of my fellowship after which we had a wee social afternoon with lots of free laughter
4. A little late but had some Amazon vouchers so got I myself the Annie Lennox Cornucopia cd with free postage. Her voice is so amazing it doesn't have to be Christmas for me to enjoy her singing carols.

2. Sounds a true pleasure..........you WILL get soooo much pleasure in the garden in the warmer weather
3. Laughter is just so uplifting, isn't it? How nice that you managed to meet up today.
4. Her voice is amazing - I totally agree.Nicotine Free since 01.08.2010 :j:j:j

1) Got out today to the sales! Had to hack my way through the ice on my car, but by jove I did it
2) Got quite a few half price goodies from Boots which I'll put by for presents for the coming year
3) Treated myself to an amaryllis - love watching the rate they grow
4) Very thankful for some very good friends, online and in 'real life'
Thanks for the good wishes following my bug and family woes, and it's done me good thinking about the positives in my life :T
Pam x
Nothing like a sense of achievement...........:T you for getting out!
The Boots 1/2 price bargains sound good and always look a nice gift.
I had an Amaryllis as a gift and I loved watching the blooms emerge.
This forum -and this thread in particular - is so brilliant at lifting you when you feel a bit on the down side.
(Thanks everyone :A)I am getting better but DH is down with it now
:j and
Dundeedoll, -18 BRRRRR that sounds drastically cold! I am still praying for your friend's son, hoping for a happy resolution.

Happy Boxing Day
We should have been visiting DM in Liverpool today, but I have been struck down by flu again. DM is very put out! (Pam: I am with you on the family v friends thing!)
Some recent pleasures
1. Everyone seems happy with their presents.
2. Shared Xmas dinner with friends, so luckily only had to do veg, as pork was already cooked. Managed to stay concious long enough to eat. Thankgoodness for Paracetamol and Ibruprophen!
3. Gave myself magenta highlights in an effort to cheer myself up. I was aiming for an understated look, but got a bit carried away! (Will dye it out before I go back to school). DS's were horrified! My work is done :rotfl:
4. Free tix from SFF for Gulivers Travels, in 3D, this morning. Jack Black-tastic! (Too poorly to linger in town shopping, so NSD at the sales).
5. Friend popped over with leftovers from Xmas dinner, so no major cooking this evening. Mmmmmmmm yum. :A
Very quiet evening as DS1 and DD staying at friends houses. I'm thinking it's time for bed. Hope everyone feels a bit better tomorrow. (Caterina: I am missing out on snowy sunshiney walks too).
Night Night HE x0
