Happy Christmas to all you lovely lot from me as well and huge (((((hugs))))) to everyone who wants or needs them. Some tough things going on for people right now - I hope everything becomes easier.

    My five for 24th:

    1. Left the DSs sleeping in this morning and braved a bit of early shopping (which wasn't necessary but it meant we have a bought pudding for Xmas supper). Things were getting pretty busy but it was a nice kind of busy.

    2. Our dangerous icicle is now hanging off the aerial wire that goes along the gutter so it's no longer attached to the building. Since the forecast is well into minus figures for the next few days we might keep it a bit longer. Silly to be so interested in some frozen water! :o

    3. Spent the afternoon with the extended family - lots of playing board games and lots of happy laughter. Did the present swap as well. Good to get home and batten down the hatches for a few days.

    4. Stilton, red onion chutney and Bath Oliver biscuits as a midnight snack. Bliss.

    5. I've made my bed up with clean sheets, got clean pyjamas and have, at long last, replaced the elastic round the waist of the pyjamas so they will stay up!!!

Now that the DSs have gone to bed, I'm about to decorate the tree with little presents - our Santa stocking equivalent - and get to bed myself.
    :xmastree:
    Sleep well everyone,

Back from Church, taking the troubles of many with me, to be given up to some greater understanding, because too much of this is beyond mine. For S, for D, for F, for J, and always, for A - you all came with me.

    1. Church is a Grade I Listed Building, but was simply decorated, with many candles. We sat in a soft glow and the mood was easeful, quiet.
    2. Left for service after long talk with Uncle[87] and Aunt[78]in NZ. They are roasting. even in shorts and tops, about to go to my cousin's for Christmas lunch. Traditional barbecue on beach tomorrow.
    3. Before this, was thrilled to leave a wonderful late burst shopping cache with L, for whom it was more than timely. Had meat and goodies at 90% off, or more.
    4. Also acquired the 'plastic white square bread' which A wants for France[sometimes only baked beans on thick toast will do] - all Hovis, aptly labelled 'Doorstop' - 7p per loaf.
    5. Service was taken by an Addenbrooke's chaplain tonight, felt like another small link for F, who will have her first Christmas alone today, as does mot, also struggling. Prayers and stillness for all.

I walked back under a bright moon, on brilliantly white, sparkling ice-compacted snow and found self wanting to draw some 'clean sheet' parallel for everyone who is enduring all the opposites.

Please take this as pure beauty into Christmas:

    Hi all

Before Christmas day finishes I just want to add my Christmas wishes for you all, dear friends, and hope that the new year coming brings everybody peace and contentment.

One huge pleasure to be registered before I go to sleep: I have spent a lovely, peaceful, relaxing Christmas day with my dear family (DH, DD and DS) and that is all I wanted, and got.

    See you all tomorrow xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Hope you all had a nice day.

    1) A text from a friend to start the day and then a phone call with the same............knowing she was OK after a slight 'wobble'............laughter............:rotfl:

    2) A beautiful day, it was down to -18 C but bright sunshine.

    3) DS1 making it over to me to collect me and take me to my friend and her son. (His best friend that has just been told he has active cancer despite 6 mths of chemo and is facing very tough treatment)

    4) A lovely day spent with the above full of humour...........we did talk openly about his illness but it was NOT depressing. I think it helped them face /get through the day having someone come over.
He is a chef and did the turkey a la Jaimie Oliver - best I've ever had........sooooooo moist & stuffing to die for.
    http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/turkey-recipes/roast-turkey-with-spiced-cranberry-bacon

    5) Nice prezzies from the above and my DS1 as well as from some of my clients (only got a couple as I didn't work any of the week due to snow, so still some to come :D)

And the following is 1 of 'My bestest' pleasures..........if you have been following my posts you'll know why!! :D;)

As we were having lunch my phone rang. It was 'Kevin' the grunting teenager.
'Hi mum, I just wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas. I did get you something, but I bought it on-line and it hasn't come yet'

Now, before he went to dad's he did keep asking if any parcels have come for him and I was cross, thinking he's bought another ****** game for the x box

4 parcels arrived Friday, so I told him that.

'Oh can you open them when you get back, take yours out and give the others to DS1 to bring back to dad's?'
( He only has conversations of 1 syllable usually)

I did and he's only gone and bought me 'The Strictly Live Tour DVD'
    :j:j:j hyper_fast.gif :j:j:j

The other 3 were for DS1,dad & gramps.
He hasn't wished me a Happy Birthday or Xmas for 3 years..........no cards or presents

    There is hope.........................:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Morning everyone!
Hope everyone had a good Christmas and glad it turned out so well dundeedoll :j:j and that the grunting one came up trumps :j:j
A strange old Christmas here - I'd decided to not to go to stay with family and of course the state of the roads was the last straw and the decision was made to stay put. I nipped out to the supermarket on Thursday, feeling a bit off colour, and felt suddenly clammy and sick on the way home and had to stop the car. And was very, very sick  Managed to drive the last half mile home and was ill for the rest of the day/evening. NHS Direct reckoned it was the novovirus (winter vomiting thing) Spent Friday washed out, just watching TV, and just had a bit of toast. Today thankfully the worst of it has passed and I had toast, soup etc. Tomorrow I plan to make up for lost time! Definitely need a bit of retail therapy.
My family have been a real disappointment, apart from my niece who's stayed in touch. Nuff said - good job we can choose our friends.

I wish everyone a happy and healthy new year,

    Pam x

  • I pressed the space bar on that last post and it posted :rotfl:

I was going to say I'm sorry about the family............was it your brother that let you down recently?............or was that someone else? Sorry, but you know what it's like.............remember half the details!

I think as upsetting as it is, all you can do is let them get on with their life, but you get on with yours. Accept that this is how it is and fill your life with other things/people. Difficult.........hurtful..........I know.

I hope you shake that nasty virus off as quick as you got it.
Not nice feeling ill, but even worse on your own.

Not long til your 2nd anniversary (Finally fag free day)

    Have another of these............

Seeing DD's elasticy armed hug smilie.:)

Catching a cold and sore throat at my sisters yesterday, but being able to lounge about and not having to worry about work. (I have all next week off).

Being able to take advantage of a slightly overweight cuddly cat to keep warm.

A selection of quality street and other chocs supplied by my sister when I told her I had absolutely no junk in the house! Now I have - yay.

Knowing that at some point today, I can put on my breadmaker and have a lovely fresh granary loaf.

    Have a lovely day everyone.

  • Happy Boxing Day to you all! Just popped on to post a few of my pleasures of the last day or so. DH is still unwell with 'flu (proper 'flu, sadly bless him) but I'm OK and trying to nurse him back to health. Anyway, here are the pleasures:

    1. Roasting a chicken for yesterday's lunch. We had lovely meat for sandwiches as that was all DH felt he could manage and there are 2 big tubs of leftover chicken and the 2 legs remaining! All bagged up and in the fridge, where my next challenge is to make something different and tasty with these leftovers. As I didn't use the juices for gravy, I've kept them and will use them in a similar way to stock next time I make a soup or risotto. :)
    2. Ditto a gammon joint I baked on Christmas Eve. There's still lots left and that's in the fridge too.
    3. The presents I got! I got some lovely silicone bakeware and chocolate moulds from my Mum and Dad, as well as some of these so there'll definitely be some more homemade gifts on the agenda next year. :D
    4. Keeping warm inside. Most of the last day or two has been spent under a blanket. :)
    5. Having a challenge of what to cook for tea tonight. I feel like DH is helping me to expand my culinary vocab!

I'll admit to being a little tired today. Anyway, I'm off to trawl the threads re: leftover chicken and gammon to see what else I can make. Have a good day to everyone, and (((hugs))) to those in need.
