well almost Christmas Eve here, my youngest daughter is hyper! She is 10 but is still a believer in Santa Claus.
Today was fairly relaxed again.......school holidays are great (will I still be saying that in a few weeks time?)
    1. No rush to get up & had a chance to start another library book.
    2. Got a lovely email from friend who knows minister at church we went to yesterday ful of her news & how her family are, she thought I sounded lonely, however emailed back to say I am trying very hard to look on the positive side of things!
    3. had hoped to be more productive & get a pavlova made but I had no cornflour left so sat with feet up & watched an episode of The Bill!
4.Kids went out for a bike ride so I sat & wrote emails to friends.
    5. Went out to shops (very busy) to get our food for Christmas day. I am still not feeling overly festive however I am also not one bit stressed so that has to be good! So food is done & presents are wrapped.
6, Bought 2 buckets (with spades) to go in shower to catch the water whilst it heats up! It is wasteful not to! We got our first metered water bill in ever, yesterday, so want to save water, if we can and this was one of their suggestions. We are allowed 4 mins or less showers & can now water gardens on alternate days and wash your car with a bucket of water. No hosepipes allowed! Luckily we have had enough rain to keep gardens moist! I don't know if it has been covered back in UK but we have had severe flooding in most states in Australia.

Enjoy your day, just going to phone the in laws !

I will post here, but the day is overcome and overwhelmed by news from F. who has lost custody of her children in a farcical Hearing yesterday.
Encouraging her to come to mse for support, advice and an outlet even beforehand, has left me feeling responsible for a couple of the extraordinarily UN-mse replies.

    She has started this Thread:
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/39601418#Comment_39601418

May I just add I closely know people for whom these grotesque and maladroit Hearings, rushed through at a removed and unfamiliar place, with clever presentation by Money have initially won, but not - finally - won the day. Long-haul justice, however, is not meritorious, just debilitating. Dickens is alive at this hour - just as Ray Davies said the other night.

F - take all the love and support I know will be in the ether for you here.

    Pleasures:
1.reverbe - you can't be far away. You've left me a penny on Monday and 2p this morning, frozen to the ground on way back from gym.
2.The kindness of strangers - trying to leave a little sth at locked, no access, Acorn House yesterday, had wonderful intuitive empathetic help from a caretaker. Brendan, you know who you are.
3.Buses came, many, and system worked perfectly with no waiting yesterday. Every journey was timely.
4.Blood remembered and done - now looking forward to brekkie...notwithstanding hour.
5.Bitterly cold and gritty snow is falling, being driven by biting rising wind - but I am indoors[for a bit]and have these tools of phone and computer to reach people...especially F.
6.A general warmth, good humour and lightness of spirit in everybody, joined by weather woes, appproaching festivities.
7.Given my camera horrors and failures for ebay[and other], tracked down Martin's news-flash Canon and had last one from great young Matt in Curry's, with further £10 off display model. I never do such things, but I have now. In fact, it is NOT down from £130, but by £130, from £199, as the Canon site shows. This sort of thing is so far out of my league. . .thankyou Martin.
8.Gorgeous choc in Debenham's, who seem to be trying very hard.
9.I wish all of the pleasures ever posted here be in F's orbit for her to tap into from now on.
-and, I will add, she is a witty, funny lady, clever and loving and competent.

Even her choice of mse name shatters me.

    Hi all

Ampersand, I shall just pray for your friend F and send her positive thoughts and hope that her circumstances improve.

Here are my pleasures for today:

1 - Breakfast with DS and his friend, mushroom and parsley omelette.

2 - Started the unemployment claim on the phone, not a pleasure in itself, the pleasure was the person I was dealing with, really pleasant and efficient, we sorted it very quickly. Incredibly, he found me an appointment for tomorrow! Wonder who is the poor s*d who will have to deal with me on Christmas eve instead of trekking to the pub with his/her colleagues for a pre-Christmas drink, no doubt I shall be dealt with quickly (hopefully!).

3 - Had to send something via the post office and the queue (which I feared to be enormous) was virtually inexistent, only 2 people in front of me.

4 - Finally I picked up the two prizes that I had won in the raffle the other day, a bottle of Pimms (good for the kids, as I don't like it) and a lovely Indian cookery book, signed by the author.

5 - Made my Christmas wreath for hanging on the front door with holly and ivy given to me by a friend, on a base made of flexible sticks from the jasmine which grows on my front wall, tied by wool and decorated with a (salvaged) ribbon and slices of dried orange that I had cut last year for our Christmas "tree" (which is a couple of sticks of wood sprayed gold and silver and covered with bits and bobs!). All very OS but it came out looking really good.

I am coming down with a cold I am afraid, so I am going to wrap all the gifts tonight so I do not have to do anything tomorrow (other than go and torment the Job Centre assistants!).

Have a great evening everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Evening all.

I'm sorry that my last post before Christmas is going to be a brief, rushed one, but the past couple of days have been very busy - full of festive pleasures of food and drink, friends and family, and presents that have turned up in the nick of time (phew!), but above all, busy! ;)

I just wanted to pop in to send heartfelt hugs to those who are unwell, unhappy, or otherwise in need of a hug, and to wish everyone a very merry Christmas.

Have a good one, y'all. :xmassign:
Back after a very long break!

    Evening all,

hope you are all well and warm.

    1) I have been busy baking this evening -so far I have made the baileys truffles, almond and ginger macaroons, and more mince pie pastry.

    2) Received the most gorgeous hamper from one of my suppliers - sadly I had to hand it in to the staff raffle. But it was still nice to receive. The good thing was that I managed to snaffle the actual baskets which will make nice presents for my brothers. I had already bought one basket but these ones are bigger.

    3) Nice atmosphere in the office.

    4) Left work on time!

    5) Made up the pots of gold for two of my DB's and my SIL (my other DB & FSIL is not joining us on Christmas day so they don't get any). I also made one for my friend G who I am staying with tomorrow night.

    night all

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

I posted my five last night and the system ate it so I gave up. Fingers crossed for these:

    1. Braved the shops for misc bits and pieces including continuing adding to and replenishing my emergency stocks. Remembered the vouchers so got lots of discounts and points.

    2. Wrapped all the little Christmas tree presents (which we do instead of stockings) so we are now completely ready for tomorrow night.

    3. DSs have made ginger biscuits to give to the family tomorrow :) We do this every Christmas.

    4. Have decided to give in and bring the telly into the sitting room for the duration - it normally lives in the kitchen. We also have a jigsaw that will need to be made space for so it's going to make everything very [STRIKE]squashed[/STRIKE] cosy. :D It means that I can get on with reorganising the kitchen big-time while the children are plugged into [STRIKE]rubbish[/STRIKE] interesting and entertaining programmes that I don't want to watch.

    5. We have a ginormous icicle that is about to drop from the gutter and will look like the sword in the stone when it does. We keep checking on it!

    Sweet dreams

:rotfl: It's ok. I don't intend 'death by icicle' to be the reason I depart this earth! Fortunately it's not over any of the doors but it was quite blowy today and said icicle was swaying in the breeze - very threatening.:rotfl:

Well, it's late afternoon on Christmas Eve, sun is shining, birds are singing , trees are treesy!

    1. Have been very productive today: have made pavlova, a peanut butter tray bake, a Nigella recipe......shame I'm the only one who likes peanut butter isn't it!, cookies for Santa tonight, girls will decorate later, dd2 made rocky road clusters too.

    2. We are having chicken & ham tomorrow as not everyone likes turkey. I would normally cook on the day but decided to cook this afternoon as we hope to be at beach tomorrow & I really can't face starting to cook in 28o heat. So chicken is in oven smelling yummy.

    3. kids have tidied bedrooms ,washing & ironing all done, beds all stripped & remade. I like clean bedlinen for Christmas Eve.......never before has it been washed & dried on the line in the sun!,
bathrooms are clean, hoovering's all done. Just floors to wash!

4.Kids are excited & happy. We got a pile of post today, nice to read messages of love & good wishes from friends & family. Had a nice chat with my mum on phone this morning.

    5. I am sitting on chair, drink of juice & an apple turnover, watching a Christmas film & just relaxing! Which after running about all day is indeed a pleasure.

I wish you all a Happy Christmas! Stay safe & warm & don't be too stressed......it's only 1 day!
