1. Yay, DD's eyes are clear
2. Yay, I'm still coughing but am much much better
3. Got out in the car and went to meet with our lovely friend - and pick up my presents from DD that she's been looking after, very exciting for both of us!
4. DD and I were ladies that dine tonight, very friendly place that we'd not been to before, where they took a shine to the little lady and upgraded her scoop of icecream, aaah to be 5 and cute again
5. Whilst tidying out the car, discovered £4 LV I'd completely forgotten about, woo hoo!!!
6. Have just done another survey to earn another £4 LV, which will bring me up to £12. I'm thinking I might save them up for as long as possible now.0 -
Evening, everyone. Hope you're all keeping warm and safe.
Today seems to have been a blur of last minute preparations and ticking prices (my job). It was really foggy on the way to work this morning, and everywhere is really white with heavy frost. Here's my pleasures for the day:
1. Going out at lunchtime and taking some pictures of frozen trees and leaves with my camera phone. I took a lovely one of some creeping ivy where each dark green leaf is rimmed with white and curling artistically. I must download it from my phone!
2. People seem a bit more cheerful. In the shops, a few people greeted me cheerfully - no idea who they were but it was really nice.
3. Wrapping presents. It is beginning to feel a bit more like Christmas.
4. A cooking experiment. Christmas Popcorn. I don't know precise quantities for the caramel, but here's a rough idea:
100g popcorn
bit of oil
for the syrup:
2oz butter
same of sugar
2 tbsp orange juice
Good shake of ground cinnamon
Ditto ground mixed spice
zest of a clementine (going soft in the fridge)
shake of ginger
Make the popcorn and put it aside in a bowl. Then in the saucepan melt the butter and sugar together with the orange juice. Add the spices and cook for a minute or two until it goes gloopy. Mix the popcorn together with the syrupy-gloop.
I put mine on a silicone baking mat and baked it at a low heat for about an hour, stirring every 20 minutes to make it crunchy rather than sticky.
Final pleasure - eating some!
The house smells lovely at the mo. There's a honey & chocolate scented candle lit, and with the gently switching tree lights and Jamie Oliver on the TV, I'm feeling pretty relaxed. Tomorrow I'll have to put petrol in the car for myself for the first time - DH has been with me previous times - one more thing to get used to, but as I told him "the everyday is only everyday if you do it every day." I'll get used to it. Anyway, stay safe & warm everyone.

Evening All.
Bit of a mixed week this week so some of my pleasures are silver linings as opposed to pure pleasures:D
1. Lovely long walk on Stokes Bay last week resulted in serious hip problems this week:( however I take pleasure in the memory of the time spent with little nieces.
2. Sis on Islay wrote her car off after wind caught the back of it on icy road,-silver lining she is ok apart from whiplash, ( could have been a lot worse)
3. DD2's cooker caught fire last night (another:eek:) however fire was contained by fire brigade and DD, Bil & lo's are all ok:T wish they didn't live so far away:(
4.DD1 after weeks of baby/cat/house sitting is home tonight & has a day off tomorrow:T to be fair she will probably sleep all morning but at least she's home & her & "kevin" aren't fighting.
5. Hmm stuggling now.... oh yes my pump on the fishpond waterfall is soldiering on so there is a gap of un-iced water amongst the icicles & my baby fishies can breath:)
yay made it.
Hope you are all keeping safe & warm

*Sigh* I've felt on the verge of tears all day again. I'm bored of it and it's not the way I used to be/should be. All due to the treatment of one nurse in Casualty (can't remember the character's name) by her horrible husband. This was the time of year my marriage finally unravelled completely. This date (or thereabouts) was my last day at work before Christmas and my boss was pretending she needed to keep my birth certificate etc in the safe for my CRB check - she didn't at all, she only needed to see them briefly. The ex hadn't let me have them for years so my boss came up with the idea of keeping them which was inspired, really! Anyway, the nasty scene in Casualty led to a fairly appalling nightmare last night. :-(
Have felt rather disconnected all day but here are my 5:
1) Looked out at the rooftops in the middle of the night in the moonlight. It looked as though there were tiny holes in the roof of the neighbour's extension and light was shining out. But when I looked again I realised the snow had ice on the top and it was sparkling in the moonlight!
2) MrN couldn't get to work so popped in several times. I don't know if he will come over later for his cup of tea. :-)
3) Boys happy.
4) Went to cook tea with MrN then the power went off for 2 hours. So I made curry and cous cous for 8 on a camping stove.
5) Enjoyed re-reading Under Milk Wood in the bath. My bigger son has a name very similar to one of the characters so my Grandad always used to use the name from the book. (Not Captain Cat!)0 -
(((((Hugs))))) Frith.
My five for Monday:
1. Now that I have got the sewing machine sorted, I made up a new back door curtain by sewing together two old short curtains into one long one and two cheap fleece blankets, similarly joined, for thermal lining. Then I hemmed the lot to fit. It looks fine and, more importantly, it seems to work.
2. Going for a walk into town in the snow with DS2 at tea time. Some of the shops en route are very Victorian looking and with everything covered in snow they looked as if they had been designed for a film set.
3. Clearing the snow off the car with DS2 which was fun, even though we didn't have to go out in it after all.
4. Knitting more sock while listening to the news and the Archers.
5. Wrapping all the main Christmas presents.
Sweet dreams

I haven't managed to catch up for a while, but here are my 5 for the last few days:
1 Payday last week plus Christmas bonus, which I mean to save,
2 Got all the presents wrapped.
3 My folks have safely managed to get from A to B - almost the length of Britain by car.
4 Have some ideas for Christmas lunch,so in less of a panic.Made a chestnut roast as a trial run,it was quite nice.
5 Went for a walk on Sunday as couldn't go running.
Wishing you all a good day x0 -

Evening all. As always, I hope everyone's well.
My pleasures for today:
1) Short day because of the
2) work Christmas lunch, which wasn't bad at all for a mass-catered event.
3) Took advantage of the slightly milder weather to walk home along the seafront.
4) Arranged with a friend that she will look after my cat over Christmas - she said a while ago that she might be able to and I haven't been able to get hold of her since to confirm, so it's nice to have that all arranged.
5) Curled up to watch Muppet Christmas Carol with a lapful of cat.
Have a nice evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening everyone!
I hope everyone's bearing up with all this bitterly cold weather. Can't remember ever being snowed in like this  Can't get the car out of the drive as it's on a bit of a slope and most neighbours who've tried have got stuck. However, will try to think of a few positives:
1) Did get down to Tesco's - taxi both ways - and it was HEAVEN to be out of the house
2) As there's no chance of me getting to stay with family over Xmas, I bought one of those £10 Tesco specials - meal for 2 - for Xmas day and boxing day. Fabulous food - not exactly OS, but haven't spent any money for days. As it included a bottle of wine, might get quietly plastered on Xmas day and toast absent friends!
3) Checked up on a couple of elderly neighbours and offered to get any shopping they needed - nice to be able to offer help and return past favours
4) Finally shaken off the last of the bugs - hope I didn't pick any more up in Tesco today  At least I've got my energy and sense of taste back
5) House looks pretty with all my decorations and Xmas tree, and even strung up the cards round the walls.
Hope you're feeling a bit brighter (((Frith))) and hugs to anyone who needs them,
Pam x0
