  • It's been a while, but here are mine!

    1) Having one of my Flickr photos added to a group (it was a picture of a Cornish Pasty!)
    2) My friend coming over and having a nice natter about crafts - I taught her how to cast on and do a few more basic knitting stitches, and she is going to make a stocking out of patchwork for her daughter :)
    3) Finding a nice recipe to try making, and planning a "friends get-cooking-together" to test it out!
    4) Having a no-spend day today.
    5) Almost being finished my cross stitch! Another week and it should be done Whoo hoo!!!

Have a nice evening everyone :)

Trying for daily wins, and a little security in an insecure world.
  • Having a lovely time in Yorkshire, not sure yet which way will be going home but Muppet I'll wave anyway.

Today's pleasures, not as OS as they should be:-

    1. Cooked bacon and egg for breakfast.

    2. Took my 90 year old aunt out to lunch.

    3. Turkey dinner.

    4. Buying a Budget Cookery book, yes I know, I could have written it, or at least I could with the aid of my good friends here, but the pictures are nice and I feel my cooking needs a shot in to arm.

    5. The peace and quiet of where we are.

    5 for today:

    1) Both boys at school!! There were tears from the younger one and he did inch his way up the path *very* slowly but they were happy enough when I picked them up. :-)

    2) Went to my counselling course (learning to be a counsellor) and that was very interesting today.

    3) Came home and went on the Wii, did 40 minutes today. Thanks to the swine flu and cutting out ALL rubbish from my diet for a fortnight I am now 11 stone 12lbs. Which is rather better than a fortnight ago when I was 12 stone 9!

    4) Made both sons go to gymnastics. They don't like it anymore since they moved up a group (it seems chaotic to me, I'm disappointed myself as they are now supervised by 2 gymnastics aged 13 or 14). Anyway, they've been for 2 years and none of us wants to renew their membership so they've only 2 sessions to go. But today they did at least enjoy some bits.

    5) After gymnastics we had a meal out (very rare!) and went to Frankie and Benny's (or Ben and Jerry's as I kept calling it). Little son recommended it "You know, the place with the fresh hats" ??? "The FRESH hats, you know" ???? "Do you mean they wear chef's hats?" "Yes, FRESH hats, that's right" :-D

    6) After the meal we walked around town to look at the Christmas lights (we can't help it, we live in the country!) Well, there are probably places more scenic than Kidderminster by night and it was absolutely deserted but we enjoyed looking at the street Christmas decorations and into the shop windows.

    Hope everyone else is OK.

Evening all - my five for Wednesday:

    1. Woke early and spent several hours sitting in bed reading and working. It was nice and warm and quiet. Need to get into doing this on a regular basis at this time - very productive. I'm finding that, as I get older, I value silence more and more when I need to think. I can no longer 'switch off' external sound like I used to.

    2. DS2 found a fiver when he was sorting through receipts for me - so we went and treated ourselves to a little something in a cafe in town while we were doing errands. :D

    3. Got another '£5 off the xmas shop' voucher from Mr S. We are now up to £15 of these and have £5 in points as well. Got £2 off vouchers from the Co-op in the post today and still have the £6 stationery shop one as well as some Boots ones. I can see a 'freebie' shopping day looming.

    4. Looking after my neice and nephew to cover a gap in childcare for my sister.

    5. My only pair of shoes have begun to leak, then I remembered I had some lightweight waterproof fabric walking boots that had got packed away when we moved house so I've been wearing them all day - they are sooo warm. Guess what I'll be wearing on my feet this winter!

    Sweet dreams

I don't usually post on here, although I do lurk often :o

On point 3 above, well done you :T No of course I'm not jealous of that fantastic weight loss :p:D

But it was point 4 that made me post. I'd be very wary of 13 and 14 year old gymnasts supervising anyone  Is the club affiliated to British Gymnastics ? You can't obtain coaching qualifications below 16 years of age. With the fortunately rare but very real possibility of serious injury from gymnastics I'd be wanting more experience supervising any child of mine, unless they were just sitting on the bench!!! I'd be inclined to have a chat with the head coach, and discuss that my children weren't enjoying it like they used to. I do have some experience ( not of coaching) in that I'm welfare officer for a gymnastics club.:D I realise that if they are going to give up after another two sessions you may not want to bother, but it still frightens the hell out of me to have untrained youngsters supervising gymnastics:eek::eek:

only post now and then but mine for today

    1) leaving work at 5.30 and not feeling guilty cos this and than hadn't been done

    2) speaking to DD who was worried about her DD1 being ill again, making her laugh with tales of HER illnesses and how I was tearing my hair out.

    3) speaking to my DS after reading her status on FB and realising she had had a bad day, letting her cry a bit then making her laugh too

    4) realising that I am feeling so much better today than I did this time last week (had flu and was on hol too, not a good place to be!)

    5) spending time online catching up with friends and threads I read
whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

    Stopped smoking 20:30 28/09/11 :D
  • Wow Ollie you are amazing! Thanks to that website you recommended, we now know it was a sundog! I never realised there were so many possiblities for weird rainbows! Thank you.

    1) Sewing club again, and one of the most academically challenged girls in that school just picked blanket stitch up in two minutes and she was off! I am so proud! It's such a good opportunity to give some praise to someone who is normally way behind everyone else.
    2) Girls' night out. One of the Musketeers arrived in tears. We had a bottle of wine on the table in moments and there were soon smiles all round. It's hard being a Mum, sometimes.
    3) A cup of tea all round when I came home. DS and DH were messing around on their guitars and DD is now singing, with DH perched on the sofa beside her, picking out an Eva Cassidy song.

That's all folks, but it's been a good day.

MissImaginative - Thanks for the link to the website :T - looks really interesting and I'll have a really good look through it tomorrow if I get a spare hour or so. Oh dear, exploding chestnuts  - I remember them sometimes jumping off the shovel while doing them on the open fire when I was a child - used to fly everywhere .
Rummer - Thanks for those links too - it's for my dgs1 who has 'some behavioural problems' (ADHD/ADD/ASD - not sure which). wd you on tackling the 'paperwork mountain' :T.
SunnyGirl - lol at your Mil - they can be sooooo funny without realising it - but it's good to see that she IS settling in despite being determined not to :rotfl:. I've got a 94yr old who won't go to the local Day Centre because it's full of 'old people'!

Churchmouse - good to see you 'pop in'.
Dazi - sorry to hear that you're another who's not been well this past week - aren't we all like a bunch of 'old crocks'.
Patchwork - Glad the website was useful - I used it to find out about 'glories' http://www.atoptics.co.uk/droplets/glory.htm - all fascinating stuff ;). Wd to your little group of sewers (oops that looks wrong, even though I know it's right ;)) - who knows, that girl may turn out to be another Zandra Rhodes - good for her :T.

    Mine for today:

    1. Breakfast of porridge with honey, toast and lots of coffee .

    2. Visit from DD this morning with dgd2 - such a beautiful little cherub and so entertaining. It was only a flying visit as she knew I had a meeting to get out to.

    3. Staff meeting with our Chief Exec explaining to us all about how their going to have to re-evaluate all our 'Terms and Conditions' - hmmmmm we all know what that means - more work for the same pay and possibly reduced periods of sick leave with pay (currently up to 6mths with full pay)! Not that that will make much difference to me - I've not had any sick leave for the past 10yrs - due for 100% attendance bonus AGAIN in Feb (£175 shopping vouchers) PLUS 20yr loyalty bonus (£200 shopping vouchers) next year . Organisation is a reg charity so we are limited as to how, and how much, staff are allowed to be rewarded.

    4. Finally managed to go for my mammogram this afternoon :j - now a 2wk wait for the results.

    5. Sausages, mashed pots, fried onions and baked beans for evening meal tonight .

    6. Emmerdale and Corrie on TV this evening - oooooohhhhhh getting very exciting in Emmerdale. What a shame about the actress who plays 'Blanche' in Corrie - now the writers are going to have to write the character out of the programme somehow - going to miss that 'acid tongue' of hers .

Hope everybody manages a good night's sleep and that all the 'sickies' will soon be feeling like their old selves again. Nitey nite all - love Ollie xxx

Five pleasures over the last couple of days:

    1. The “official” verdict on my leaking roof on Tuesday led to a “temporary” repair which should keep us going for the next few months, and only cost £40 (for 3hrs labour + materials). Very pleased with this as our “new” house is actually a very old “house of character”, which has about 6 different roofs – all sloping at different angles in different directions, and the one that was leaking is not the first one on the list of replacements, so hopefully this repair will tide us over into 2010, so we can keep to the planned schedule, and deal with each roof bit in turn! (Don’t worry, we plan to get a minimum of 3 quotes before allowing anybody to do anything “big” ;)).
    2. Bought a de-humidifier from B&Q. Not sure if that is OS (although removing excess water from our old house is a necessity, not a luxury!), but a bit MSE because I took my Dad with me and he is over the age of 65 so gets 10% discount on a Wednesday – thanks, Dad!! :T Already set it up on the top floor of the house, and after just 12hrs it already feels much warmer up there.
    3. Have unpacked a couple more boxes – this unpacking lark seems to be a standard one of my 5 pleasures at the moment, but it really does feel better every time we manage to clear a boxload. :o
    4. Have finally sat down and sorted out my Christmas presents which need to be sent to Germany, to see what I am still missing and need to work on buying. Need to buy one more present, and couple of little extra chocolate-y things for packing, then I’m done.
    5. Steak and sauteed potatoes for dinner this evening – yum! :p

Haven’t had a chance to read through properly yet, so hugs :grouphug:to all who need/would like one, and congratulations to all who have reasons to celebrate! :j
