    Still getting better!

    1) Big son went to school OK and enjoyed it. After school he had a skiing lesson and did quite well there too.

    2) Little son had his final day off school so we sat around watching TV and playing on the Wii. He is better really but so tired. He would play for a bit then have a lie down.

    3) Had a reasonable tea. Weirdly, I can never get baked potatoes right. How hard can it be?! They sit in the oven for eons then I get annoyed and throw them in the microwave and sometimes they still have that horrible "bite" in the oven. Still, little son actually ate his which is a start.

    4) Did my homework for college tomorrow so I'm not behind, despite missing last weeks' session.

    5) Ordered a pile of logs - £105! When I first moved here they were only £50-£60 a load but everyone has jumped on the woodburning stove bandwagon since then. Never mind, looking forward to replenishing the log pile.

    6) Going to have a quiet bath now then watch Holby City on the iplayer once I'm in bed. I see little son has snuck in so I'll have to roll him over out of the way!

    2. Lovely chat to best mate and then my Mam on phone
    3. Given up TV for week going very well - bit of radio 4 and radio 2 earlier

Got to get on with stuff but heres a quick 5 for today:

    1. Crunchy frost this morning viewed through the window from my toasty bed. :D

    2. Veg box delivered. Organic clementines have lived up to expectations again.

    3. Lots of warm, huggy posts on this thread and a real-life warm huggy snuggle with DS2 as well.

    4. Quick, unexpected chat on the phone with my friend in the US.

    5. DS2 giving me all his (clean and not too old) socks that he's now grown out of. Some of them are rather nice and I'm in real need of socks! Makes me smile to inherit hand-me-downs from a 15yo. :D

    Sweet dreams everyone.

    Hi

    Mine for today:

1 Finishing Otis the Elf Sock Monkey

2 Finding a lovely shop that sells edible glitter and lots of other baking stuff so spent a while looking around that

3 Having 2 people wanting to buy my sock monkeys and after speaking to mum she also wants to put them on her craft stall so maybe a few extra pennies next year selling them

4 Having a long chat with my mum. I dont usually speak to her as she goes quiet on the phone (does it with everyone) but today she was so chatty, it was nice to actually be told stuff without me having to constantly ask about things.

5 An evening of tv and sewing, bliss!

    Back again.......

    1. DD and I both enjoyed a good nap this afternoon, an hour for me - 3 hours for her! She still has big bags under her eyes and was a little warm when she went to bed, so not sure whether I can safely pack her off to school tomorrow. Gulp.
    2. An unexpected but welcomed NSD, apart from opening the door to a friend who brought round some milk, I've not set food outside all day!
    3. Being asked to woman a stall at DD's school fete on Saturday, really looking forward to it, and DD seems pretty excited about it too thank goodness as she hasn't got any choice but to come with me, lol.
    4. Making some fairy cakes for packed lunches
    5. Have just done a p!necone survey so a free £4 LV on its way soon.

Night all, hugs Redsquirrel, sorry for your family's loss.

Good evening I did get back on the computer after all ;):D

Acey I used to struggle with baked potatoes but now microwave them for 20 mins (for 8 big potatoes in a 950W micro) then bung them into a hot oven for about 15 - 20 mins. They come out all crispy on the outside and soft in the middle - yummy!

    My five for today:

    1. Meal plan & shopping list done for tomorrow which is my first weeks shop in December.

    2. DH watching me writing the above shopping list out & saying I'm brilliant & he doesn't know how I do it on the little money we have :o:A Lovely to be appreciated.

    3. An hours interrupted reading this afternoon.

    4. Very cold start to the day but it was so pretty to look at.

    5. Looking forward to going to bed soon as I got our winter throw on the bed last night & it's so warm over the top of the duvet :money:

Ollie & Ampersand Thank you for guessing what the bird that I saw was :T The trouble is I can't decide between the two that you both posted! It was very pretty though.

Rummer Sorry it's been a tough week & hope that things start to settle for you now xxx

Sweet dreams to all & (((hugs))) to any who want one. Night, night God bless xx

Evening everybody  - another freezing cold day brrrrrr.

SunnyGirl - Good to see 'the boys' coming back home but oh so sad about the ones who didn't - this whole war thing is such an horrendous waste of young lives. Good to know that your budgetting skills are appreciated by your OH :T.
ampersand - The only birds I've seen around here today are the darn, squawking Seagulls - they frighten everything else for miles around. Workmen with tractors have been digging most of the day, so I suppose they're after anything that surfaces.
Kittikins - Hope your DD is soon back to her 'real self' - so hard as a single mum torn between sick child's welfare and the 'difficult to ignore' call of work. How fortunate we are these days that many of us can 'work from home'. Good Luck with your stall at the weekend.
redsquirrel - sorry to hear about your grandad - somehow we think that they'll be around forever :) - unfortunately death very often brings family squabbles to the surface which makes the person's passing even sadder. ((((SPECIAL HUGS)))) for you as you also remember your sister.
scotrae - wd on your freecycling :j.
Caterina - you are so right about that most basic of human requirements - breathing! Having been gasping for over a week, I am now managing to breathe 'deep' without choking myself at long last. Good to see your DS and DD rallying around and also to hear that you and DH can at least be pleasant with each other - please God that things improve!
nuttybabe - :T wd on finishing another sock monkey :). How nice to have a proper chat with your mum on the phone :).
MissImaginative - wtg on all your lovely cooking and it sounds like you've had a great weekend with your OH and his parents :j.
Patchwork - There's a great site about atmospheric opticals - you may find your rainbow in there http://www.atoptics.co.uk/bows.htm very interesting site.
bella - good to hear that you've arrived safely at your cottage. Hope you have a lovely relaxing time in your temporary abode .
Muppet81 - Hope you both enjoyed the jive class :).
Rummer - sorry to hear you've had a rough time of things lately - please remember that we're here for you if you feel the need to unburden - good to see you back again. Sounds like you and your DD have made the most of each other's company - exactly how it should be ;).
ACEY - Great to hear that you're all well on the way to full recovery and wd you on not getting behind with your college work :T.
DitaBombita - glad to hear you meetings went well and good to see that you're getting on with not using the TV .
Broomstick - :rotfl: at you getting hand-me-down-socks from your son - my DS1 is 6-3 with size 13 feet  - he can keep his .

    Mine for today:

    1. Another quiet day in work - one or two problems easily solved via phone calls/e-mails.

    2. Phone call from DD - no complaints, problems, crying, panics - just 'how are you mum?' :j.

    3. Finished off some Pumpkin Soup at lunch time.

    4. Made a start on a pair of wristwarmers during a quiet half hour this afternoon.

    5. Rump Steak (SmartPrice) with oven chips and salad for evening meal tonight .

    6. Lovely chat with my sister this evening - enquiring about dgs1. She's a Teaching Assistant and specialises in kids with behavioural problems. Gave me a great website that could be useful to us. Sparklebox .

    7. Also managed an hour on-line with friends quizzing again - takes my mind of 'other stuff'.

Going off to bed now - early start in the morning as I've got a meeting in the afternoon. ((((BIG HUGS)))) where needed/wanted - love Ollie xxx

Morning everyone, my 5 for today are.

    1. Hearing muppets very good news, really put me on a high. I was not feeling great and finding it hard to sleep. So i logged on at an ungodly hour to read the news. :j

    2. How do i follow that. Making bread and muffins today, can't seem to bake quick enough at the moment, and there is only me and my son to cater for.:money:

    3. Made a really nice smoked haddock chowder from the sat. Nigel Slater programme. Got the fish at mra's ys, so turned out a nice cheap meal. Served with hm irish soda bread, really filling too.

    4. Spending time on the tv prog. web site got a few really different recipes, will report back as usual.

    5. Going for a spa day to posh hotel this weekend, have been thinking about it for days. It's great all the treats that can be had by being frugal and decluttering.

Have a great os day, big large hugs to all who need them. xx esp thinking of redsquirrel, Caterina, rummer and ollie. To name but a few. Love reading all the posts k e ep p o s t i n g. :A

    Morning all,

Hello to Reverbe. Hope your coin collecting and freebie getting is going well. Would be great to hear from you.

    1. The getting up early to use Economy7 (both during night and early morning) is going well. Loved one said about the difference in price between day and nighttime units, good to know he's converted and pushing us both.
    2. Getting rid of a bag of "stuff" to a friend. Some of the bits cost a few quid but as they were buys (of a while ago) and not loved/used here, it's better to rehome them. Otherwise it can be a guilt-trip constantly looking at the mistaken purchases. Brought big carrier bag back home so I can refill it again.
    3. Not so OS, enjoying a KFC. Always feel thirsty afterwards though! But it was enjoyable.
    4. that's all so far.

    Great day everyone. :A
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!"
Less things. Less stuff. More life.
 Fab thread: Long daily walks

    Hi all :A

As I did not get chance to post my 5 yesterday but it was such a nice day, please can I post them now and can I have more than 5?

    1) Waking up and not being afraid of the future :D
    2) Taking a coffee back to bed and gazing at the hills all white with frost and sparkling in the sunshine
    3) Having a 2nd coffee in the garden with my chickens and seeing them enjoy firm (frozen) ground after weeks of mud. Beautiful red berries on my cotoneasters in the garden looked fantastic agains the frost
    4) Putting cheesy Christmas music on and dancing round the house to it and singing ... yes ... the cat did a runner again. She does not think I have the X Factor :o
    5) Having leftovers from the Leek and blue cheese bake for lunch (recipe posted on here but sorry, I can't remember by who but thanks anyway it was gorgeous)
    6) Wrapping some pressies using the basic brown paper carriers I found on line (very cheap!) and bit of fake ivy and berries. They look very pretty and traditional.
    7) Mr M actually enjoying our first ever jive class. It was great fun even though we were all over the place

The last few days have been hectic but I have been trying to keep up with all your posts and thank you all once again for your kindness and support.

Sadly, it seems as though so many are having a difficult time right now and my heart goes out to you all.
Caterina - you sound very brave and positive and I know you will work through this and come out all the stronger. How wonderful to give your possessions to someone in need :A
Ollie - how marvellous that you give so much support to others whilst feeling under pressure yourself :A I hope that something positive comes out of you airing your concerns with your manager. It would be such a shame if your skills, experience and compassion were lost as a result of changing working practices. If not then I hope your "mulling" takes you inthe right direction for something even better for you.
Redsquirel - I am so sorry to hear about your family loss and how that must have brought back the loss of your sister.
Rummer - I hope you are managing to work through your problems and feeling happier for that
I know I will have missed some of you out but am thinking about all of you

Bella - I hope you are enjoying Yorkshire ... God's own country. Do give me a wave if you pass the farm in the middle of the M62 on your way home.. if that is on your left .. turn right and wave... i am way across the valley but will see you from there :rotfl:
Acey - I have just invested in a Wii Fit Plus and am really enjoying it. Are you good and do lotsd of the proper excerises or are you like me and stick to the more fun items :o

Hugs to all who need them today.
    xx
Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend
