Hi, everyone. Hugs to all that need them ((()))
Recent ones for me include:
1. Getting a quote for my new carpets that's about 1/3 of what I was expecting. Brilliant! :j
2. Getting two blind dates set up. Love is in the air....
3. Writing 2,500 more words for my latest short story today. :T
4. Finding out that a friend who I've not seen for nearly 20 years (she lives in Gibraltar) will be in London when I am on the 12th, and we're going to meet up. Will be good! May well involve .
5. Short day at work - always a good thing!Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Reverbe I see that you are reading but have not 'read' you for a while. Are you OK.
Monday's pleasures:-
1. The sun shone all day.
2. Yummy bread rolls made in new Remoska.
3. Ironing up to date.
4. DD and her lovely family to tea.
5. Planning our trip to Yorkshire - tomorrow.
Bella.A man's life consisteth not in the abundance of things which he possesseth. Luke 12 v 150 -
 ev'ning all - it's been a bit
here today - had to 'fast forward' the heating earlier
.
bella - flipping heck - if that lot isn't OS, then there's nothing down for the rest of us! Well done you :j!!! Enjoy your trip to Yorkshire - don't forget to give a wave to SunnyGirl if you go along the 62
.
culpepper - well done you on having the motivation to go running like that in the rain :T and congrats on dropping 2 jean sizes.
redsquirrel - happy to hear that your weekend with your OH and DM went well - and well done on all your lovely Farmers' Market bargains.
billy858 - well done on the HM Leek and Potato Soup - that was the first that I ever attempted  - I've noticed a few Christmas Trees up already as well, in fact one of my tenants has had his up for about four weeks now .
ampersand - isn't it great when we realise our initial impression of somebody is incorrect - your bus driver sounds like an OK guy. (I do have a 'thing' about men with pony-tails - even grey ones ). Hope your High Street Christmas Evening goes well tomorrow - wish our shopping centre would do one of those, but I think there are too many 'local scallies' hanging around for it to be much of a success.
ACEY - Hey! one down and one to go - wd you on getting the first one back in schooland good to hear that the other one is recovering his appetite nicely.
savingforoz - well done on your carpet quote :T and fingers crossed for your blind dates - hope at least one of them turns out to be what you're looking for in a man. And if not, then hope you have fun anyway.
Mine for today:
1. Quick blitz of Living Room before Line Manager's arrival at 2.30 - then checked my on-line diary and discovered she was due at 12.30 .
2. DS1 arrived at 11.45 for a spot of lunch - both he and OH got told under no circumstances were they to even think of sitting down on the freshly arranged throws on the sofas - OH only has to look at the throws and they 'untidy themselves'. DS1 was given a double-decker egg sandwich wrapped in tinfoil, a slice of banana cake and a flask of tea and sent packing :rotfl:. OH was chased upstairs with a mug of coffee and the promise of lunch at 1.30 IF he kept out of the way.
3. She-who-must-be-obeyed arrived spot on at 12.30 - still eating her sandwichand was instantly plied with cafetiere coffee and my Lemon Drizzle Cake. The meeting went very well - no complaints and no problems - phew! She's got me down for 'First Aid Refresher Course', 'Mental Health in Older People Training' and 'Alcohol/Drug Abuse in Older People' - the last two I've been asking for for about 10yrs .
4. Then she asked me if there was anything I would like to add. Hmmmm - big deep breath and told her that I thought I was coming to the end of my time as a Scheme Manager. She asked me why and I told her that I'm noticing that many of my recent tenants are younger than I am and that I'm getting really fed up with all the changes that have come into the job in the last few years - more and more Admin and less time to actually spend with the tenants - no community facility that makes it very difficult to 'encourage socialising' and such large numbers to cover (69 properties/85 tenants/2 sites a mile apart). I think it came as a bit of a bombshell to her and she's asked me to think it over till the New Year (guess she doesn't really want to have to think about recruitment between now and then) but she did ask me what other kind of work I would like to go into. Told her I don't want to waste the experience that I've gained in the last 19yrs and that I think I've still got lots to offer but in a different capacity. The whole thing was such a relief to finally put into words. So, 4/5 weeks to 'mull things over' ........ (mull - get it? christmas/mulled wine :rotfl: - never mind, I'll get my coat).
5. We had Spicy Pumpkin Soup for lunch with some banana bread to follow. Haven't mentioned what I discussed with manager - will chat it through with him in the next few weeks though. I'm sure he'd really love to live somewhere else as he's never properly settled since we came here and it's now three years.
6. Dug out my knitting needles and some of the wool stash - would like to make some 'arm/wrist warmers' for b-i-l - he has rheumatoid arthritis which really affects his wrists badly in the winter months and I thought they may just help him a bit when he's driving to work.
I'm now feeling absolutely drained. I've watched my soaps and don't fancy anything else on the box, so may just make my way to bed and see if I can manage more than 3 pages of my book before dozing off tonight.
((((BIG HUGS)))) to all who need them - nitey nite God Bless - love Ollie xxx0 -
1. Remembering to pack a teddy and grate some cheese for DD to take to school to make sandwiches for a thrilling teddy bear's picnic this morning
Ted hasn't made it back home, however....hope he's having fun in the school hall!
2. YS organic bagels and bristol cream (a Christmas trifle must) on special offer at Mr W at lunchtime, quite fancy a schooner now, lol.
3. Have now wrapped all of DD's "free-ish" advent calendar pressies - just need to draw pictures of which shape present to open that day (free DVDs from newspapers, very old but hopefully cracking crackers or box of raisins) and put them in each drawer. A friend has warned me I might be setting a dangerous precedent, but as with a "new" dress from Father Christmas beside the stocking, I'm treating her in a very MSE kind of way
4. The prospect of a day off work tomorrow, just for me to mooch about
5. More goodies on iplayer, saving electricity by not plugging in the TV/receiver/other box thing on that side of the room.
Quick question - if the birds haven't eaten them all yet, am I too late to pick sloes for gin-making purposes now? Because of my flipping back, I've not been able to go out for a good forage around the fields, but would like to tomorrow if poss!
Reverbe - where are you? Come and "see" us soon please, hope everything in your life is getting more settled.0 -
Hi ACEY - spotted your Dad
- was your brother pushing a wheelbarrow by any chance?

1) This is a very strange one - I tried washing my hair with conditioner only (suggested on another thread on MSE) and I thought it looked awful before I straightened it. Then, I went to work and got four compliments on my hair. Most peculiar.
2) Mushroom pate for lunch (leftovers from weekend) and I converted a colleague into eating babycorn raw.
3) Left work a little early to continue at home. Just gave me a breathing space before ...
4) DD and I went to see our old friends, who still live in the next street from where we used to live. Tea was cooked for us and we had a lovely natter.
5) My friend's daughter lent me her childhood copy of The Faraway Tree. I must have missed this one. It was a bit of a joke, really but I am still going to enjoy it.0 -
Acey - glad the upward trend is continuing!
Ollie - that is so brave of you to voice your thoughts to your manager about a change of direction. Hope your 'mulling' goes very well for the next few weeks
Five pleasures for Monday:
1. I finished second mitt - they just need all the ends sewing in and then I have warm hands and not a moment too soon.
2. Lots of washing dried.
3. Good chat with my dad on the phone. He sounded genuinely sorry not to be able to join us on Friday for something I'd invited him to. We are going to have to find an alternative quickly I think.
4. Went to local Borders closing down sale. Pleasure was browsing and OS was sticking to my very pre-planned shopping list and not getting any spontaneous purchases. Sad to see so many people losing jobs before Christmas though.
5. Getting our wholefood co-op order sorted. It's organised between a few family members and friends and happens at random intervals. The plan is to get an order delivered before Christmas. Cheap way to stock up on basic store cupboard stuff and tends to make me feel like a squirrel hoarding for the winter.
Sleep well everyone

Hello everyone !
I got the all clear today
I am so happy and relieved I cannot begin to tell you all.
Todays pleasures:
1) Being given the good news at hospital. Just a cyst and nothing to worry about.
2) Mr Muppet taking me into Manchester to do some Christmas shopping whilst he went into work for a few hours.
3) This part not OS Moneysaving at all BUT just for today ..... I DON'T CARE. Went to Bravissimo and treated myself to a couple of new bras.
3) Mr Muppet meeting me in Manchester, visiting the Christmas market and us going for a meal at Pizza Express (using vouchers "bought" with Tesco clubcard points).
4) Coming home via a pub which has just been renovated and re-opened. It is georgous.
5) The best bit ... getting home and being able to ring my lovely supportive friends and tell them everything was OK
All in all, I think today has been one of the best days of my life... and in 53 years there have been a lot of days!
For me, Christmas starts today and I can now look forward and plan.
I feel a bit guilty beign so happy when there are those of you who are down and unwell. I really wish I could pass a bit of it on to you all.
Love to you all and especially Caterina.
xxThank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0 -
Muppet, that is wonderful news. :j:j:j:j:T:T:T:beer:
Caterina, i hope you are feeling physically better and emotionally stronger today.
Mine for today.
1. Seeing Dtwin1 in great form and eating well for the first time since she became very unwell last week. :j
2. OH taking and unexpected day off and spending it doing lots of things round the house together.
3. Lunch in the garden in the freezing cold with OH enjoying the beautiful sunshine and the view of the snow on the mountains.
4. Flowers from OH.
5. Arranging a family party for next year to celebrate my nephew's birthday and our tenth wedding anniversary. It will be a chance to see our far flung family from Australia.0 -
Hooray, what fantastic news Muppet, what a relief
Please don't feel guilty about being happy - you and your loved ones have just gone through a horrendous amount of stress and if you feel guilty, then heck, I should do too, as I'm so pleased for you and it's lifted my spirits at the end of the day!
