    Evening all

    Mine for today are:

1 Had a good relaxing afternoon getting the hat and scarf for dd's sock monkey knitted this afternoon. Should have it finished tonight.

2 A lamb roast. We rarely have lamb as chicken is so much cheaper but as on offer in asda I treated us and it was lovely and the yorkie worked brilliant again - too well, in fact, dh ate 2 3rds and I had to share the rest with ds1!!!!!

3 Didnt go out today so didnt spend any money (not stopped raining all day!!!)

4 Watched a few films with kids and had a quiet day as everyone seemed tired so just chilled all day together!

5 Watching a film with dh and a glass of wine - might even have a baileys truffle if dh left any!!!!!

    Back to my sewing now!

    Hugs to all!

    5 for today...

    1) Getting a bit better again!

    2) Making it to the school Christmas fair.

    3) Having a chat with my sister on the phone.

    4) Warm and cosy and listening to the rain outside. When is the last time we had a day without rain?!

and something out of the ordinary alert!!!!

    5) If you watch Countryfile on iplayer (not yet, will be on later), scroll through until you get to the feature on the holly and mistletoe sales. You can see my Dad who works at the market (very tall in a green coat, probably wearing a cap)! He's famous! (He's been on a photo in Country Living before). Then, when the camera zooms in to look at a nice bunch of mistletoe, you can see the name of the farmer who supplied it - and it was one put in by my brother!!

  • We've had a big weekend, due to DD's birthday. Her friends have been lovely, baking huge cakes and giving her cards and presents. She's had a really lovely three days of it.

    1) DD's birthday on Friday, cards, presents, phone calls. She wanted a Chinese takeaway, something we haven't done for years. I offered her a meal out but no, we sat around the table eating out of foil dishes. It was lovely, and no cooking. Cost less than a restaurant too. Watched her new DVD afterwards
    2) MIL and FIL came for a big production roast chicken tea on Saturday and DD made one of her signature cheesecakes. Dear me! The calories! FIL felt a bit woozy from an ear infection so they left early but it was lovely to see them.
    3) Sunday school this morning and the lovely children we have there.
    4) Last night's leftovers made today's lunch.
    5) My Mum and her fiance came to tea today - out came the china. He's vegetarian so I made pate and tomato tart. It was a lovely visit, which was such a relief because I am still a little worried about his level of commitment to Mum.
    6) Leftovers from today have made lunches to take tomorrow.

All of this inbetween DD and DS practising hard for their church Christmas presentation.

Hugs to those that need them. PQ

Glad you're getting a bit better Acey.
Thanks for the link Ollie - I've bookmarked it - some lovely patterns on there.
    More (((hugs))) to Caterina.
Ampersand, your post reminded me of an Eleanor Roosevelt quote that I love: 'A woman is like a tea bag - you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water'. :D
More (((hugs))) to you Muppet, too.

    My five for Sunday:

    1. Haven't finished meal planning yet but have managed to get a basic vegbox order placed for next week with stuff I know will be delicious and will get used.

    2. Trip into town to take DS2 to play with his cousins and DS1 to help with some coaching so I was able to sit in the cafe at the sports centre, drink a latte and get on with some work for a couple of hours. It was very productive and everyone was happy.

    3. I had a lovely time early evening sitting with a rug over my knees, listening to The Archers and knitting more of my second mitten.

    4. I've now wrapped all the Xmas pressies that I needed to get for the extended family, except my nephew's which my sister is going to buy for me and everyone's gingerbread biscuits which we make a few days before the 25th.

    5. I also bought one really lovely hand-made ceramic button from a local craft shop which I plan to attach as a fastening on some sort of neckscarf - the next knitting project when the mitts are finished. There's something special about spending a while choosing just one button!

Making a hottie and going to get on with some more work in bed.

    Sleep well everyone.

    Five pleasures for me today:

    1. Going to 8am church service (at the moment I prefer it to the 10.30 service as there are less people - makes me sound very anti-social, doesn't it?! I'm not really, but I just need to fit back into my "new" community in my own time - after years of living in London, where nobody spoke to each other(!), I am just taking baby steps to get back into "countryside community living"...!! :p).
    2. Lovely roast pork dinner with Mum & Dad - don't often eat roast pork because Mr P doesn't like it (he had a chicken breast). Hopefully, I'll get to eat pork a little more often now... (In the interests of fairness, Mr P will get to eat roast lamb more often now, too, because I don't like that - but as we are living so close to M&D now, I suspect we will eat more Sunday roasts together, so on lamb weeks, I will get the chicken breast instead!! :rotfl:).
    3. Unpacked a few more boxes today. Its a long, slow job (mostly because of finding places to put the stuff!) but we will get there in the end. If we can just do a little each day, we are hoping to be ship-shape by Christmas...
    4. Going Christmas shopping tomorrow (OK, that one's a little premature for "today's pleasure" but am anticipating it!) - Mr P is having his hair cut - I'm looking forward to that, too, because he's looking quite unkempt at the moment! - and I'm going to hit the shops while he is at the hairdresser's.
    5. Sitting here watching "I'm a celebrity..." and drinking a glass of Bailey's, sorting through my Christmas card list/pile of cards. Have already bought 2nd class stamps, and feeling confident that I'll not be chasing the last post this year (like I normally am...!! ;)).

Caterina - sorry you are having such a bad time at the moment. Stay strong and remember there are lots of "friends" who are here for you when you need us. :grouphug:

Acey - glad to hear that your family are feeling better now. :T

Hugs :grouphug: to all who need one, and congrats to all who are celebrating - Patchwork Quilt, it sounds like you've had a lovely weekend! :D

Just thinking about Caterina before I'm off to bed.
    1. Had means to warm self when it became very cold and sleety as I took wander to village college: Chrimbo Craft Fair. Oh dear, college library were selling books...:o
    2. Frequent visits from Big Boy and Mrs Wifey together today. More pix. She even flew up and perched on the incinerator.
    3. Astonishing result on a nice, but cutdown, walking stick on ebay - looks as if it's off to one of NY's top furniture restorers!
    4. Already looking forward to Acey's i-player replay and intend listening again to Morrissey and isihac, of course. I'm warming to Jack Dee. Mornington Crescent was extra sublime this time.
    5. All Blacks DID beat France 39-12, even if it was reduced to 7 words, no score, on R5. Admirable here though -

alisong, any clues on that banana/golden syrup cake please? can't find it and have THOSE:o bananas...was keeping them especially for this purpose;)
sunny girl - I thought 'golden oriole' when reading of your yellow bird. They're special, secretive-ish - but there was a spot near my old Norfolk home where they could often be seen.
Continuing theme ornithological, shall close with something heard today, which feels odd to have not known....[from An Island Parish - i-p'd v. early today. Can almost forgive the ghastly Nigel Farrell his inept restaurant venture in France for this....] It is that puffins are ...wait for it...smaller than blackbirds. I've been up on Smokestack in Wales hoping to see them, but still haven't. A. did take pix of gulls soaring to snatch things from my fingers while wind did its best to send me over cliff edge:D. I think I feel puffins are about oven mitt size.
    HAVE to see some now.

Goodnight all - are your hotties filled? teas made? toes warm?
    ###########
quick add-on:sorry, now removed, don't know how to put big weather freeze story on w/o my em heading.

Acey - glad to hear you're on the mend.
Caterina - <<Hugs>> (girl power ones). Just be happy, whichever way the decision goes.

    1. I finally got round to using the face-lifting mask and I think it made a difference, even if just for the one day. Worth the 33p or so that it worked out as costing anyhow, by the time I'd got some foundation on.

    2. Repairing two of my boys' school jumpers - the neck and cuffs have started to come off all of them in the past fortnight. I haven't made a tidy job but it's good enough.

    3. Going into town to look around the Christmas craft fair in the Cathedral and the Victorian street fayre. Some of the crafted items were amazing. I'm still trying to stick to M-I-L's purple hamper theme - just as well or I'd have spent £16 on a fabulous stained glass blue tit to hang in her window.

    4. Going home inspired and finding my fabric bag, trying to think what I could make with them for Christmas gifts. I wonder if DH would recognise the patterns of his former shirts? (I got a bit carried away when clearing his wardrobe out earlier in the year - gorgeous checked and striped fabrics!) Then I spent a very leisurely hour persusing the craft links and misi.co.uk for ideas.

    5. Peeling the first of the spuds from a £2.50 sack - gorgeous mashers! DH was very impressed when I told him how much they cost!

Off to check on where the school shirts are and run through the school run list for the week with DH now! Sleep tight all and here's to another week!
  • Hello all and a special Hi to Caterina. Like many others, I've been in your situation. I was fortunate to get some very good advice which is that, if you've decided you do want to split up, to plan everything in advance including how and when to have 'the conversation'. I had a new bank a/c set up and we told the children together etc so that there was very little disruption to the 'family' side of things when we did break up. It sounds a little cold but it really is the best way for everyone. We now get on better than we have for years and it really was so much better than having a big row and slamming doors.
    My pleasures for today are-
1.Being asked to post a recipe! I can't do the linky thing but I'll add it at the bottom!
2.Deciding to use the heat from the roast to make a cake at the same time, used up part tin of pineapple which was due for throwing and now have a lovely upside down cake.
3.Finishing off the ironing mountain which seemed never ending and getting all the washing given out to the various family members!
4.Watching the rain on the water of the lake when I took the hound for his walk, really pretty and ducks etc swimming away.
5.Parsnips with the roast, so yummy, the kids would eat a whole plate of them if they could, also happy knowing they only cost me 59p in Lidl.
Here's the banana cake recipe, hope you like it-225g SR flour, 100g butter/marge, 50g dark sugar, 4 eggs, 4tbs golden syrup, 4 ripe nanas, nuts if wanted (I didn't), bake gas 4 50/55 mins although mine took a bit longer, check it's set in the middle. I used creaming method, then nanas, g syrup and flour, thanks again to whoever posted this I'm sorry I can't remember who it was.
    Sleep well all, Ali x.

    Morning all,

Hugs to everyone who needs them but especially to Caterina who's honesty on here is breathtaking.

Ollie I think a serving of your Chicken and veg casserole would go down a treat here. Have you got a recipe?

Oooh Alisong that nana recipe looks nice. I love golden syrup.

bunnytoo - Ham & cheese muffins sound nice, do ya have a recipe?

    1. Had a lovely day out with a friend yesterday. Tiring but nattering constantly.
    2. Got up early today. Trying to use more of the economy7 early in the morning as well as during the night. Even if I do this a couple of times a week it will help.
    3. Being greeted by all the animals this morning (and yes Ollie we finally got a rescue dog!).
    4. Hearing the WM and DW on. Always give a sense of getting stuff done. Especially while I'm sitting on here.
    5. Um that's all folks.

    Great day everyone. :A
