    Yesterday's things:

    1. Helped my husband install a cigarette lighter in my car (it didn't previously have one). Now I can charge up my sat nav on the go and not worry about getting horribly lost (again). It would have cost us lots to have a garage do it but we figured it out with the Haynes manual and saved a packet :D

    2. Made my first ever lasagne. It was gorgeous and I'm definitely well on my way to fulfilling my ambition, which is to actually like bechamel sauce.

    3. Found some boots I'd forgotten I bought (picked them up just before we moved house and packed them away), they're really nice and I'll be wearing them to a job interview this morning.

    4. Dug out all my old books about watercolour painting and looked through them in the hope that I'll get inspired.

    5. Found a Christmas present for my friend who is just learning to knit - a lovely book by Aneeta Patel called Knitty Gritty. I hope she likes it.

Love to you all, and special hugs to Caterina, and hope you all have a lovely Monday.

 morning everybody - another dull November morning AND the final one of the year :j - my how time flies! Consolation is that it's only another 3wks to the shortest day and then they start to get longer :T.

Caterina - I'm so pleased you didn't just dump (or e-bay) all your stuff and that it went to an appreciative recipient :T. Hope you're getting over the germs/bugs that have been attacking you for the past few days and that you're now in a better place to deal with your emotional turmoil and any decisions that may have to be made. (((((SPECIAL HUGS))))) for you right now.
ampersand - Helen Reddy certainly knew how to sing it ;)! I also agree that I feel as though I would recognise Caterina if we ever bumped into each other (highly unlikely in my case lol). Wd on your e-bay walking stick :). I'm another who didn't realise that Puffins are smaller than Blackbirds - how strange . Easy mistake to make as we always see pics of these birds but with nothing to compare their size to.
nuttybabe - wd on your creative day spent with family AND a delicious lunch.
ACEY - Good to hear you're feeling much better and that you managed to get to the Christmas Fayre. Don't try to do too much at once or it'll come back and 'bite yer bum' again!
Patchwork - What a lovely way to celebrate your DD's birthday - family meal around your table like that - sounds so much better than sitting in a restaurant. You've certainly had a busy weekend with your visitors :).
Broomstick - Pleased you enjoyed that site - some great ideas on there. wd on your Christmas organisation - wrapped pressies already  - I need to step up a gear :o.
piglet - I used to love 8.00am Communion - full of lots of 'Edna Birch-type' characters and you didn't always feel obliged to stay behind for 'coffee-time' afterwards like the 10.30 Service as there was none . Hope you and MrP are sorted by Christmas Eve and don't find yourselves hunting for the best china on Christmas morning ;).
scotrae - wd you on the 33p facelift ;) - would need much more than that to make much difference to mine :(. Have got some Avon stuff that needs to be used as per instructions - hopefully it should be showing some improvement by Christmas IF I make a start NOW and stick to it . That sounds like a lovely weekend that you've had and I've checked out the site you mentioned - it's now bookmarked for a really good look later. What is it with kids and school jumpers at the moment - I've had to repair one as well!
alisong - :T for the recipe - now in 'My Recipes' folder on my comp :). Will have a go at that one next week when my 'hidden in freezer' one has been devoured ;). wd on defeating the ironing mountain :j.
bunny too - lol at you trying to bake faster than your DS can eat them ;) - thanks for that Ham and Cheese Muffin recipe - another one that's gone into the recipe folder .
mineallmine - awwww wd you on getting your rescue dog :T - hope he/she settles down well in your family home - has to be rewarding all round . No recipe as such for the chicken and veg casserole - just pre-soak any beans/soup&broth mix overnight first, then drain and rinse thoroughly next morning. Then into the SC with chicken thighs (if skin on they need browning - don't like slimey, anaemic skin), onins, carrots, swede, parsnip, leek (including the green bits for added colour), fresh stock (or chicken and veg stock cubes), dried mixed herbs, extra sage and black pepper and leave for about 8 hours - it was a BIG pot! I should have removed some of the veggies right at the end and blended them to thicken the gravy, but I couldn't be asred at the time, OR you could thicken with some cornflour (have run out ) OR gravy granules. I served with creamed pots in a bowl-style plate - quite rustic looking .
angeltreats - wd to you and OH doing that yourselves :j and wtg on your first lasagne (still to attempt this myself :o). Good Luck with the job interview - maybe the boots will bring luck with them :).

    Mine for today:

    1. Enjoyed our chicken and veg casserole yesterday evening .

    2. Sprawled on sofa watching 'Kindergarten Cop' - love Arnie's talent for comedy roles. And great to hear him say 'I'm back' when he walks into the classroom on his walking stick at the end :rotfl:.

    3. Spent an hour chatting to friends and doing an 'on-line quiz' among ourselves.

    4. Put all the weekend laundry away - two lots done and dried on rad rails/airer.

    5. Read another 3 pages of my book before dropping off again - going to take me to New Year to finish it at this rate :o.

    6. Have put the bins/recycling out this morning - getting ridiculous putting my household bin out every week now - less than half a bag in there again this week - and that's mostly plastic/polythene packaging.

    7. Have got my mid-year Staff Competency Review this afternoon, so need to have a quick blitz around the Living Room before Line Manager arrives. Seriously thinking about telling her I'd like a change of direction in my life - many of my tenants are younger than I am and I don't like the way the job is going these days. More and more admin stuff to do and it's now nothing like the vacancy that I interviewed for 19yrs ago. We're a HUGE organisation locally, so I'm sure that there's something else that I can be shunted into - but it's going to mean moving house - again !

Will drop in again later in the day. Hope everybody has a great day and just want to let Caterina, Muppet, Newlywed and Acey know that I'm especially thinking of you ((((big hugs)))) to you all and for anybody else who needs them right now. love Ollie xxx
  • Caterina & Muppet (((((((HUGS)))))
Acey - pleased to hear you are all feeling better, well done for battling through it. I'm going to find your Dad on iPlayer soon, I've got that programme set to play while I iron.

Don't think this weekends pleasures have been particularly OS but have contained:-

    1. All meals cooked from scratch.

    2. Homebaking.

    3. Homemade soup.

    4. Homemade yogurt.

    5. Some crafting.

Guess for a lot of folks that is OS, I think I just do it without realising - it's a way of life.

    Hello peeps.
    Mine from the weekend were;
1.Finding a little carved box in a charity shop that DD will love for Christmas .
2.Finally managing to wear size 28 jeans (have kept them for yonks) without strangling myself(last year I was a 32).
3.Running in the rain and getting absolutely soaked but managing the whole distance without stopping.
4.Having enough left over from dinner yesterday to make curry for Tuesday.
5.Sitting with coffee watching TV last night and there were two films we hadn't seen before!

All the best to everyone and especially Caterina :grouphug:
  • Hope everyone had a good weekend. Hugs to Caterina, and well done for being brave and honest with yourself.

    Mine for the weekend:
    1. Lots of quality time and cups of tea with my mum :)
    2. Visiting farmers market just before closing and getting lots of nice things cheap - mushrooms, cheese, pheasant and kippers!
    3. My mum meeting OH for the first time and getting on well, lots of good long chats with them both.
    4. Learning how to knit with four needles - lots of socks here we come!
    5. And this morning, finding out I've got an interview for the job I applied for last week - excited and nervous!

    Have a lovely day x

  • Morning all (just). Thinking of you Caterina. You seem to be going through a dreadful time at the moment, yet you come across as someone who has great inner strength. I hope that is true. It's a beautiful day here (for once) and makes counting my blessings much easier.
    1. Home made leek and potato soup.
    2. Cheesey, romantic Christmas movies on Hallmark channel.
    3. Not having to cook again tonight. DD2 cooking at school again.
    4. Seeing two christmas trees already up when out at work last night. They were so bright and cheery in the horrible weather.
    5. Christmas shopping with DH (miracles do happen) and a break for hot chocolate and scones. The money saving bit was that the kids weren't with us so we didn't have to pay for them aswell!!
    Love to all. X

    1. Just in from Charity, using Bus Pass[much petrol last week], thinking about Caterina as I walked rest of way. Thanked driver for giving me time to sit downand he said he always tried and no-one ever noticed. He's come across as surly, grey pony-tailed intellectual misfitted to busdriving before now....fixed.
    2. Still loving the moment when, tall gate opened, I see the glimmer of solar lights.
    3. Thrilled about rs's interview. Will also send you the unfinished socks for A, begun 2 years ago...they're stuck around the heel.
    4. Thankyou alisong - cake's on cards for tomorrow's big High Street Chrimbo night. I'll be in with Charity stall.
    5. Just in time for isihac rpt, on now - oh gosh, another Amazon sale!
    ##############
Had to click back a page to alisong's nana cake recipe - and remembered to copy this post and not lose it in doing so - now that's an extra special and rare pleasure.
Do listen to Gardener's Film Club - closing round of isihac - :rotfl: again.

Ollie, how did your review go? What was your gut feeling about it? Did the whole thing contribute anything to your moving on/staying inner debate?

LOL, Bella and other Dad spotters! He's 6 foot 4, 65, and wearing a bright green fleece with "Brightwells" on it (because he works at the market run by Brightwells whether its holly or not!) No other distinguishing features except he was wearing a fairly worn cloth cap. And wellies.

N.B see 13.41 minutes in and he's directly behind the people talking to camera, talking and laughing!!

My brother can also be seen but he's less obvious. 6 foot 5, very thin, 26, dark hair and eyes, very pale skin and glasses! And he's wearing a Worcester Warriors woolly hat!

Got the boys in the bath so here's 5 for today:

    1) Getting one boy back to school.

    2) Being well enough to go to Sainsburys for Advent calendars etc.

    3) Going to mum and dad's to get little son a bit of fresh air, feeding the pigs and washing my car.

    4) Little son EATING SOMETHING!!

    5) Going on the Wii fit and finding that, in a week, I've lost 9lbs. I had a stone and a half to lose and, although having swine flu isn't a method I'd recommend, its certainly given me a good start!

    6) Later, going to sit by the stove, watch Celeb and finish the last bit of damson gin. (The last bit in the bottle that's been open for a fortnight, not the last bit in the demi john!)

and 7) Getting a voucher for a Milka chocolate bar, courtesy of MSE.
