I now know why my DD was SO irrational last night...she's got an ear infection and tummy ache
She was hot and bothered last night and didn't want to go to school this morning, but I took her as she was cool, was perky, ate and drank well so I thought she was just trying to pull a fast one. I then got a call from the school about 30 mins before home time (lunchtime) saying she was unwell.
How much of a bad mother did I feel? She LOVES school, so not wanting to go was a red flag that I chose to ignore. Oh well,
Anyway, on to my blessings:
1. Working from home today so I could drop everything and pick her up within 5 minutes of the call and as the US is still on holiday, the workload was quite quiet.
2. The NHS - I was able to speak to a doctor who prescribed a course of antibiotics over the phone which we picked up this afternoon. I know they're not a cure-all but DD seems to be following my well-trodden path as a child of getting run down quickly and picking up ear infections, so a necessary evil I think. However, I am planning on soliciting recommendations for a good homeopath/naturopath to see if I can help boost her system to try and avoid the infections/antibiotics in future.
3. The lovely receptionists at the surgery giving DD a glass of water and a very chocolatey biscuit
4. DD and I having fun making biscuits early evening before she started drooping again. We have a cow with a broken leg, various stars and hearts, a duckling or two and a couple of cats with raisins for eyes. For some reason the cats are the only beasty biscuits that can see but they all look deelish!
5. Feeling able to waffle on here to you all because in 'real life' I don't really have anyone to talk to about all this.
6. The anticipation of a cosy day at home tomorrow, probably cuddling, tidying up the sty of my house, and with any luck, having an NSD!
7. Buying the last of the Chrimbo presents for 36p, thanks to using comparison websites and then a Mr T clubc*ard voucher - in fact, if Qu!dco tracks, it'll end up being 21p for a brand new requested book that will given the recipient hours of pleasure.

Night night all0 -
Evening all
- so quiet outside - such a change from the wind and rain that we've been having all week - though we DID have hailstones here earlier today .
ampersand - good to hear that you've made a complaint about the 'yob on the quad' - he needs catching before he causes a serious accident.
bunnytoo - wd you on cutting down on your number of 'hot washes' each month :j. I've also radically altered the way I do laundry over the last couple of years - I only do a 'hot wash' for towels about once a month. Rest of the time I do a 30 or 40 wash and find it perfectly ok - then again neither of us gets very dirty/sweaty. How sweet of your ds - hope you both have a great weekend enjoying each other's company.
scotrae - I quite agree with you about your interview. No point in starting the job if you know deep down that it's NOT what you want. Also, as it's so close to Christmas, it's probably best to look for something to start in January - think of all that wonderful os-ing you can be doing in the meantime. Good luck with your party planning
.
honey - fingers crossed for you DH on the job front- I'm enjoying reading the Christmas Dinner thread too - I've even typed out a menu plan for ours
. congrats to your friend :T.
Muppet81 - thanks for you concerns :A - I'm feeling much more positive for DD now AND the chest infection is definitely calming down as well - almost my old self again . Sorry to hear that you're marooned at the moment - but congrats on the 'blobbing day'.
billy858 - sorry to hear that thehave moved on to you now - hope the 'fairy liquid' is helping you to feel better
.
savingforoz - glad you like authonomy - one of my friends has her published book on there as well as one that she's working on at the moment. lol at your 'freezer surprise' - but sounds good anyway.
yummyhoney - well done on your bargain selection boxes :T.
bella - wd on your baking session - date and walnut scones .
Kittikins - awwww your poor DD - but don't go feeling guilty about sending her into school. It's so easy to mistake the early stages of something for a child just not wanting to go to school - I'd like to bet that we've all done it at some time . Well done on getting your Christmas shopping finished online :T. Remember we're always here for you!
nuttybabe - well done on a 'successful' school run and wtg on the truffles .
Mine for today:
1. Dgd1 got off to school on time this morning - phew!
2. Visit from DS1 this morning for a cuppa and chat. So glad that my job is one where I can see or speak to my kids during the day if they just want me for something - it has to be THE perk of working from home.
3. Finished off last weekend's fruit cake for elevenses this morning - will need to bake again this weekend though there's still half a Lemon Drizzle Cake in the tin.
4. Another lovely quiet day in work - this bad weather has got them all so fed-up that they're keeping their heads down and themselves out of mischief at the moment.
5. OH finally got his Chilli, pasta and garlic bread for evening meal tonight with some in the freezer to top a jacket potato during the week :j.
6. Been reading through some of the leaflets that I've picked up recently about What's On in Liverpool for the next couple of weeks. Looks like some interesting stuff that we may take a look-see at.
I'm going to get off to bed early tonight. One final antibiotic, a hot drink and that's me gone. Inspector Jack Frost awaits
.......... Extra special
hugs to all - love Ollie xxx

Ampersand - thanks for the :rotfl:about me using my broomtwigs for basketmaking! Actually, you've given me the idea of looking into learning how to make brooms as well as baskets :T Maybe I subconsciously chose my name for a reason.
My five for today:
1. Walking across the sports ground in the sunshine this morning on the way to the children's coaching session.
2. Getting this quarter's gas bill which was about £60 and better than I thought it would be considering our water and space heating is via a combi boiler. It makes me feel a bit better about switching on low level central heating now that we have some idea of what frugal use costs.
It's tricky in a new house.
3. I've lost my scarf knitting. It must have fallen out of my bag and I have no idea where it's gone, however, I had one ball of the wool left at home and I've found a very nice pattern for fingerless mitts on the internet which cheered me up a lot so I think I might just have a go at that instead.
4. Deliberately driving through our our little market town on our way home this evening to see the Xmas lights which had just been switched on. Really pretty.
5. Simple egg and chips for supper and clementines for pud.
Off to fill hotties etc.
Sweet dreams to all

Five pleasures for today:
1. Woke up early, so got a chance to enjoy the early morning before the rest of the house was up and about.
2. Checked online banking to discover that we have had a refund of nearly £120 from Thames Water into our account - yippee! :T
3. Received a lovely bunch of flowers from my godmother as a "welcome home" surprise, so at least among all the cardboard boxes waiting to be unpacked, we have some lovely flowers which make me smile whenever I look at them.
4. Went to a Christmas Craft Fair this afternoon - made me feel a bit more festive, and managed to get 3 Christmas presents, plus some nice foodie bits as a treat. :xmassmile
5. Have just spent an hour catching up with a good friend by phone, and spent most of it laughing - brilliant start to the weekend!
Hope you have all had a good day. Acey - I hope you and your family are feeling better soon...it sounds horrible, so well done for coping solo with it all! Similarly, for anybody else who is feeling ill at the moment (can't remember specific names now - sorry!) - hope you feel better soon.

Aw Kittikins - sounds like my son when he's ailing. We seem to have moved out of the non-stop ear infection days now. It sounds as though your biscuit making session cheered her up though and she's got the weekend to take it easy and get better.
Nuttybabe - Baileys truffles sound amazing! (Was it you who tried the choc mint stuff out yesterday and if so did it ever set?)
Mine for today:
Clearing out the plastic drawer unit in our bathroom, throwing out some empty bottles and finding a few things I'd forgotten about.
Painting my nails with some sparkly nail polish that I hadn't known I'd got til sorting through the aforementioned drawers.
Having Gavin & Stacey on i-player whilst cleaning the kitchen. Very funny!
Managing to predict the traffic jams in town, leaving early for the school run and getting to school on time.
Cancelling my long-standing subscription to Good Housekeeping (a standing joke with my husband). Perhaps I'll rejoin sometime when they have a good gift offer on but meanwhile I know I'm saving some money.
I'm doing a book stand at a school fayre tomorrow, hopefully clearing some stock from when I used to have my own book business. Aiming to have one less box in the house by the time I get home and start soaking up some Christmas atmosphere too. (I need to find my festive tablecloth and some tinsel and change - I'm out of practice!)0 -
Not me with the choc mint but am curious about that now!!0

Don't know if I can think of 5 for today. :-(
1) We are getting over swine flu. Sons had some cereal then a few baked beans for tea.
2) Sat in front of the fire watching Celeb.
I think thats about it. All the cleaning and laundry I left for 4 days when ill has been waiting for me. I've almost run out of logs and they get dropped off on the pavement and I know I haven't the strength after the flu to take 1 tonne of logs round the back of the house in a wheelbarrow! Sons have been making up for 4 days of lying completely flat and still by doing lots of arguing tonight. My sister is annoyed because I won't do a 35 mile round trip tomorrow to feed her cat. I have hardly ventured into the garden since Tuesday and don't really feel up to driving, my eyes still ache.0 -
Morning everyone, my 5 for today are.
1. Lovely evening in with my ds, dvds, candles on fireplace, snuggly blankets , hm pancakes with bananas and toffee sauce. The toffee sauce i made about a month ago and found at the back of the fridge. A forgotten treasure that had inproved with keeping.:money:
2. Making bird feeders for all the little tit and robin families that seem to live in my old stone wall. Got 6 ys coconuts, friend has sawed them in half for me.:D
3. Catching up on ironing this morning before ds gets up. Eggy bread requested for breakfast at about 10.00.
4. Wrap the last of xmas pressies, and put the tree up. Next weekend is our mini xmas. Family tradition. Small xmas dinner, small pressie etc.:santa2:
5. Baking few bits for freezer, very low on goodies at the moment, due to ds hollow legs. 3 batches of twinks eaten this week alone.
Have a great os day, hugs to all who need them xx:A0 -
:hello:Oh ACEY, I'm sending 3 spares to fill your quota now.
I had them all ready to post when I started early, before 5 this morning, so they've bred on and multiplied. Choose whichever you like.
1. Apology to kittikins re DID, had the repeat and original b/c reversed, so the pleasure is that we may not have heard Morrissey yet, but we still have him to look forward to...TWICE:rolleyes::D[and more with i-player]
2. Heard Satie's Gymnop!die first thing. Even better, it was DAB7's Cee Beebies prog as gentle music for small persons to wake up to:T...better than so much other stateside import, harsh, discordant, hopeless, dumbed-down, talking down. Sorry, can't stand the Kirsten woman presenter on Big Toe Books[only hear it accidentally] - there's just so much trash there. Yep, it is rabid old Leftie to the right of Attilla The Hun speaking...
3. Feeling warm.
4. 2 books listed for prev. mentioned young Tesco acquaintance plus 1 of mine, while kettle boils.
5. Open email, another Amazon book sold!
6. 2 pm's - wonderful news in one. Thankyou again Queen Bess for telling me - MARTIN has posted on worried sick's Thread.
7. I have inadvertently boilwashed an angora/cashmere jumper. Predictable result[and I actually love doing careful hand laundry - prob. rather sad?]-but know someone needs poorly puss bedding...this will be perfect. And it's not such a :eek:situ. I sometimes take unsaleable, unraggable bits from Charity, which need mending, retrieving.
This was one such.
8. Returning to World Service on The Wireless more lately and realising anew how VERY good it is and different from domestic Beeb. [As I edit - a.k.a. correct -mysteriously appeared typo's, terrific music thing on right now - Randy Lewis]
9. Last night's hottie still toasty when I ate brekkie in bed[h/m toast and Lady Grey tea].
10. Putting arms around Kittikins for her no.5. Yes, yes - we do all know, we do all have our dark hours before dawn.
11. Found THE tiepin that 60's party lady needed for OH's outfit for their dinner tonight. Drove 15 miles to leave it through door- not sure why- hope the dog who hurled himself against letter slot didn't swallow it. Carefully left it not fully through, having actually thought of this.
12. Dropped more goodies off en route back. Firm up ladies-who-lunch arrangement, using Mr T vouchers.
13. Empathetic chuckle re: freezer ufo. They live here, too.
14. Just spun on chair, sun's out. So am I:D.
Now wondering if I will be able to follow All Blacks v.France on anything...better get out for grauniad and last 1.5 of yesterday's checklist tasks that eluded finition.
Go snugly and safely all day long. Think it's time for another wave to sparrer:hello:....make that a duet:hello::hello:.
