5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

1. DD and I had a lovely afternoon playing board games and sorting out any which we can donate to the school Christmas fete next week (as I know she's getting a LOT more for Christmas...and I need some space!). Just got books and cuddly toys to sift through now, I'm trying to declutter before the festive onslaught.
2. Opening up the excess half-jar of my first ever home-made tomato chutney and is is divine
3. A friend is buying me some duty free perfume to give to a loved one at a great price, saving me some pennies
4. I made (fanfare please), the best ever veggie mince lasagne in the world everAND, more importantly, stood my ground when DD took one look and announced tearfully that she wanted sauce and pasta, not sauce and pasta. Flouncing off, she slammed the kitchen door and I just sat and ate my portion and waited for the tears to subside and for her to come in and happily let me 'divide' her portion into pasta and sauce which she then ploughed into, lol. The delights of over-tired 4 year old logic, bless her cotton socks.
5. A NSD today0 -
Hi all, been feeling very
the last few days. Feel like I'll never get back to 100%
Hugs to everyone else who is down or worried about anything.
So:
1. Reading this thread and being reminded of the things there are to be thankful for.
2. Friend offering me another lift to the Dr tomorrow.
3. Following a link to the waste food website and using up some browning bananas to make banana walnut loaf.... and it was yum! http://www.lovefoodhatewaste.com/recipes/show/53-banana-and-walnut-bread
4. Finding a recipe on that website for lemon curd - need to find a way to use up the ones that came free from Sainsbugs.
5. Finally doing 2 weeks meal plan and my Sainsbugs shop (rather a larger total than I'd hoped but it will last us more than a week and I can't walk far, let alone carry shopping!) Plus I've been miserable so I deserve a few treats since I've just been paidworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Hi All
Kittikins - my 3 year old dd is the same!!! And I do exactly the same, just let her have her little tantrum and she is usually (well, occasionally) back to normal!
Mine for today:
1 Having a go at a sock monkey. Not a bad start and it reminded me of 'back in the day' when I used to do so much knitting, crochet, sewing and embroidery and just forgot about doing it. I am really enjoying getting back into my crafts!
2 Nice and clean shined sink all day. (used dishwasher again, naughty but been a busy day!!)
3 Quiet at toddler group I volunteer in today which is good as I have had a headache all day today (and it meant we could 'join in' at snack time!! :P)
4 The pain has finally stopped, I had my swine flu jab done on Monday and my arm has been throbbing since but today it finally stopped hurting.
5 Ds1 and dd playing junior monopoloy and really enjoying themselves. At last we can start playing board games on an evening together. Cant wait!!
I hope everyone is ok and I look forward to reading everyones pleasures.0 -
1.Just enjoyed this on R4, having come in from looking upward at crystal moon - frosty night on way?
'The Health Authority has ordered spot inspections .....'
2. Am alive - at 17.25h, had closest ever fright. In winding village main street, hefty mad yoof burst out of side lane on [looked shiny new]white/black quad bike at t-junction. Could not control it/steer it, anything. Was left upright at steering wheel, having slewed car end left when I braked and swung hard to miss him. Haven't checked for breakages in the box of good bits I was travelling with. Have reg.no - think he was trying to put hand over back no. plate, but he was too late and in any case, roared off, bumping down footpath near tall wall, back into road and away.
3.Have put word and good description around via friend in village -someone will quickly know who it is.
4.Morrissey is on the Desert Island with Kirsty Walk tomorrow[rpt Sunday]
5.Oddest thing - the 60's dinner party lady arrived at Charity when I did. I apologised again for leaving Dior rose at no 15, wrong addy. She said 'Don't worry, my brother did that last year, sent my card and present to..... no. 15'! She lives at 31. Found some wonderful 60's bits to complete most of her list....even the Gent's Brown Corduroy Flares![even better, with bright orange buttonholes sewing and detail] Sent her off with final reminders for joss sticks, fondue set, red candles in wine bottles and mateus ros!, Blue Nun, babycham.
6. A kind couple sent me ahead in Mr T queue - had 3 things. Assured them I do the same.
#########
A bump - if anyone wants the 100 points/Flu jab tillspit from Mr T, please pm me.
#########
Already looking forward to rugby - All Blacks vs France.
Bella, I've always thought corn salad and lamb's lettuce were one and the same? - to me it's la mâche nantaise. Absolutely love the stuff.
Think I'll go to bed now - night all.
Sweet dreams.
Kittikins - love your no.4. She's practising being Woman and coming along v. nicely, by the sound of that.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Well, we're still ill. They no longer test for swine flu round here (I phoned to ask) but they are pretty certain that is what we have. Big son has been ill since first thing Monday morning. Today he ate a peeled, raw carrot! That all he's managed this week besides 2 spoonfuls of soup yesterday... Little son became ill mid-Tuesday and has been the poorliest of we three by far. He went to bed Tuesday night and only got up at 6.30pm today! He has had 3 bites of a Nutella sandwich since Tuesday. :-( I've had some dates today.
Anyway, 5 for today, if I can think of 5...
1) Surviving a 4th day as nurse and invalid at the same time. 4th day with no help whatsoever... well, it shows I can do it, I suppose.
2) The fire starting nicely even though I've run out of firelighters!
3) Watching little son's face when I was putting something on iplayer for him and accidentally chose Padraig Post instead of Postman Pat!! He couldn't work out what on earth had gone wrong! Lots of Gaelic dubbed kids things but no Welsh that I could find (?)
4) The first Christmas present arriving via Amaz0n! I had one son on the sofa in the living room, one upstairs in bed.... so its still hidden in the larder! Its for little son, the annual (for kids) from Top Gear which he loves.
5) Enjoyed I'm a Celebrity.
6) Phoned one of the school mums to say the presents I was supposed to wrap for the school fair had been wrapped by my mum and were waiting for her in the secretary's office. Learned that 30 children and some teachers are also off school (that's nearly 2 whole years worth!) Nice to have a chat with another adult anyway.
Ollie - sorry to hear your daughter is still struggling. I'm just starting to cut my anti-depressants down and remember how long it took to get the right tablets then the right dose in the first place. Best wishes to you and to her.0 -
Get well soon Acey, I hope the swine flu hurries up and leaves your house very very soon.
DD makes me laugh and occasionally infuriates me when she does this - she helped me make the flipping lasagne, so knew exactly what was going to be dished up, so there really was no excuse. And....there's half left, evil mother that I am, shall I put it in the freezer for another night or inflict the scrumptious meal upon her again *insert evil cackle here*
Ampersand - thanks for the heads up on Morrissey0 -
Just remembered another one. so 6 for today - struggling to get buggy into toddler group door (I take ds2 to volunteer work at toddler group and tried to get in arsed backwards!!!!!!!!!! :P) and a very helpful man held the door open for me then held the next door open for me and the receptionist (who normally just see's my head) noticed how much weight i lost!!!! yay!!!!
7 drinking baileys and watching scrubs!! :P0 -
:hello: Hiya to all the new posters. Beware, this thread is terribly addictive!:D
Acey - if it's the suspected swine flu that I and my two had several weeks back, it's horrid. Give into it as much as you can. It's a bit strange in the winter months but we found that ice lollies really helped with this particular bug when nobody wanted to eat properly. Ice kept keep high temperatures down a bit, sore throats numbed a bit and a bit more fluid drunk. Hope you all get better quickly.
Anyway, my five pleasures for today:
1. Home-based day today which has been very welcome after a lot of travelling around over the last week.
2. My Book People order arrived - lots more Xmas and other bits sorted. The treat that I'd ordered for myself is useful for some work I'm doing but is also just right for dipping into for bedtime reading.
3. DS1 coming with me to do the shop in Mr S and being funny and happy and jokey all the way round. Lovely to be out with a 17yo in that kind of mood  - really good company.
4. Getting another Mr S voucher for £5 off our Xmas shopping.
5. Researching online how I can learn to make baskets. I really fancy having a go at it and I've found a couple of options to follow up in the new year. I'll be getting some money as a present quite soon so I might put it towards tuition.
Sweet dreams

Bonjour -
1. A dramatic sky, sun's on way with black tree silhouettes in relief and a chill wind which I feel part of as I lay brekkie trail for the feather brigade.
2. After a night's rest, feel ringing Police re: yesterday's event was right. Explained to PC that this person needs the 'actions have consequences' talk now, before worse happens. She asked if he was wearing a helmet - NO! Hadn't even thought of that and yes, it IS required.
3. My new tea is Lady Grey, tastes extra nice this morning.
4. Quick easy Amazon listing as kettle boiled and a touch of Goon surrealism, hearing an i/v on World Service simultaneously, with the Head of The Max Planck Institute of Extra-Terrestrial Physics - which my head immediately replayed in the voice of Neddy Seagoon. Yes, it does exist[Thankyou Google-another endless pleasure] In fact, have spent another 10mins reading about crystal plasmology and have bookmarked to return. The style is not unlike that of two other personal heroes of mine:Richard Feynman and Carl Sagan[in additon to aforeposted Dr Carl/R5]. Take a peek...go on, you know you want to:
http://www.mpe.mpg.de/pke/index_e.html
5. A structured ticking-off-tasks list today: fingers crossed that Life doesn't decree otherwise. Wondering if Martin will answer a pm sent last night. A day will take its own shape, regardless of how we specks of cosmic dust believe we have control....
###########
Wrap up warmly everyone.
Broomstick-sudden vision of you using twigs from your besom in your new enthusiasm......and grounding yourself:eek:.
Hope all our convalescents continue steadily to recovery today. Gently does it.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Ampersand -you're probably right re. the corn salad and lamb's lettuce, they do look very similar but came out of different packets. Corn salad also called Cavallo but I'm afraid I don't have the other packet any more.
I do fancy there are more leaves to the stem on the Lamb's lettuce (like a cluster) will have a closer look when I venture up the garden (i.e. when I'm out of my dressing gown), just so good to be growning any salad at all when it's nearly December.
Thanks,
