Hugs to those who need them especially Muppet and Ollie.
Here are mine from the past couple of days
1) Saw a heron standing on a chimney pot (I was on a train so was quite high up myself), it looked majestic
2) DS thinking his banana looked like the moon "a banoon Mummy"
3) Being in when something I had ordered for Christmas arrived so no "sorry you were out" card for me!
4) Tidying the garden for winter
5) HM bread still going strong on the third day
6) Remembering to use my Co-op divi coupons and consequently spending only 3p today!0 -
Have now managed 2 days at work, and being fussed over by friends, and not feeling guilty (too much) about leaving a bit earlier than I should when the back started playing up.
Being able to reciprocate with childcare tonight for a friend who helped me out when I was sick, and enjoyed having 2 children running around the house
Having a lovely chat with the girl in my local health food shop at lunchtime, she was so sunny and made everyone's transactions more cheerful, what a nice girl.
A friend at work telling me great news about his plans to leave the corporate rat race and return to teaching next year.
Ordering some educational books for DD (and to refresh my mind, I wasn't very good at science and geography at school) on a special offer, with free delivery and through Qu!dco
Ollie - sorry to hear your DGS was being a problem....but how lovely that you as a family are all working together to help him. Hope he heeds the words of you grownups, sometimes parents are just too close to children to get through to them (or at least that's what I tell myself when DD is a stroppy mare, lol).0 -
Hiya to the new posters :hello: Very glad to hear that things were OK yesterday Muppet - fingers and toes crossed for the results.
My five for Wednesday:
1. Setting off before daybreak and having a longish drive in grim weather but, because we'd left lots of time, it wasn't stressful, we had some packed breakfast with us and I was able to have a bit of a nap before we got going with the event we were attending.
2. DS2 had a very good day working with his home-ed friends and it was great to see the group getting on so well.
3. Lovely pear and butterscotch yoghurt in my packed lunch - this was a bought one but it tasted so nice I must have an experiment with making a HM version.
4. Catching up with DS1 and the news of his busy day when we collected him tonight. Good things going on for him atm and he's very happy too.
5. Reading this whole thread. It's become a real end-of-day treat and something I look forward to lots.
(((Big hugs)))

Hugs to all those who are ill, waiting for something or just in need of a hug
In no particular order
1) The Boss made soup for us this lunchtime. It was amazing. Historic. I had a couple of bowls of Parsnip and Almond and one of Red Pepper and Prawn. I excuse myself by saying that I can't eat the bread so I needed more soup to fill me up. However, there was lots left and I was told I could take it home. I didn't dare. This was all the more amazing because I left my intended lunch on the table after breakfast this morning.
2) Stayed awake in the meeting (which was very good - how often can you say that?) because I was eating soup.
3) Sewing club today. Three more children joined but some didn't come back. Spent half an hour teaching them how to knot thread and thread needles. We will sew next week, honest! It does surprise me, though, how little they know. We need to teach life skills properly in schools.
4) Chops for tea. It's not healthy but a well-roasted chop with gravy from the roasting tin and jacket spuds is one of my favourite meals. DS's gf was here, and DH was home too, so it felt a real family affair. All the veggie leftovers and the juices from the tin are going into a soup.
5) Crying with laughter at Simon's Cat on YouTube.0 -
Evening everybody  - Been a long day so just a quick catch up before beddy-byes.
scotrae - wondering how you got on sorting out the 'floordrobe' (loving that word) and hope you managed to find something you liked while out shopping
.
SunnyGirl - thanks for the prayers- wd to your ds on his progress at school and with his music playing and wtg you on coming in under budget this month :T.
Caterina - hope life has settled back down again at your place - wd to your OH for backing you up. I'm just the same as you - we just can't help ourselves when it comes to our darling 'babies' can we. Don't forget to take a spade with you when you go looking for the end of that rainbow
.
savingforoz - sorry to hear you were feeling 'down' at work today - ((((HUGS)))) for you. Do you post any of your writing on 'authonomy'?
Tealady - :hello: and welcome to you. Hope you manage to get the PE Kit back - it's always worth a try, sometimes people DO hand things in. Enjoy your 'Christmas' this weekend with your parents.
BitsyBeans - sounds like your kids had a great day. I agree with you about Weetabix - it could be a great substitute for pebbledashing homes with!
ACEY - You poor things -to you all and congrats on leaving the shopping to Mr T to deliver - that's what it's there for
.
DitaBombita - lol at the guy at the bus stopand hope you and your friend enjoy your shopping trip to York.
nuttybabe - love the idea of you showing your OH what he's bought you for Christmas.
Jevvers - thanks for the hugs- still chuckling at thoughts of the 'banoon' :rotfl:.
Kittikins - well done on being back at work and hope your friend enjoys his return to teaching.
Broomstick - wd on you and ds meeting up with other home-ed people - must be a very rewarding thing to do.
Patchwork - Parsnip and Almond Soup sounds very unusual - must have been good if you went back for a second bowlful of it. Well done on your Sewing Club - remember my 'embroidery class' in Junior School when we made 'Handkerchief Sachets', dressing table sets and antimacassars. Very proud we were too
.
Mine for today:
1. DD kept her appointment this morning and has agreed to take the meds that her GP prescribed for her - up to now, she's been too scared to take them in case they make her 'spaced out'.
2. Chicken Mayo sandwich and a slice of HM Fruit Cake for lunch.
3. Team Meeting this afternoon - need to get the minutes done tomorrow morning.
4. Went to the walk-in centre this evening and was given some antibiotics for my chest infection. Unfortunately they also discovered that my BP is ridiculously high  - more so as I'm on medication and its supposed to under control. Possible that something I've been taking for my cold/cough has affected it BUT, then again with what's been going on the last few days, who knows .............! Been instructed to visit my GP in the morning to have it checked out again with a view to having a medication review. Am really going to have to totally review my lifestyle and build some exercise into my daily routine - few star jumps to be going on with :j:j:j;).
5. DD had another 'panic' this evening and asked me to phone NHS Direct for some advice about her medication - the grandkids were playing up at the time and she didn't feel able to talk on the phone to them. Lovely lady rang me back asking what kind of support she's having at the moment and does she have Social Services involvement to assist her. DD agreed to speak to her and she's made a referral for her to SS (for herself AND dgs1) and is contacting the Mental Health Team to insist that she gets seen immediately. Maybe this will be the breakthrough ................!
6. :T to everybody for your good wishes where DD and dgs1 are concerned - it felt good to let all that out. ((((BIG HUGS)))) to everybody who needs one at the moment.
Oh well time for me to 'hit the hay' for the night - got my book waiting at the side of the bed. Nitey nite all - God Bless - love Ollie xxx0 -
:mad:Aaarrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh!
A bit of a toothgnashy start at the end of a toothgnashy day, in which most things had aspects shaped as pears[see Footnote]
Have TWICE lost big reply to 2[below], so will leave it for next time.
1. About to go byes just now and thought 'No', in view of/despite above, all the more important to post NOW and end this start of day with Good Things.
2.So...switch to mse and find wonderful pm from a young poster, worried sick. It is good news and the difference between her first post last week and now is phenomenal, but of course we are in for the long-term in supporting her.
3. Caterina - thankyou;) - for sending that rain AND the rainbow to High Street when I finally reached town late, late-ish afternoon. It's clear we'll meet with spades at ready, digging for same crock[referring more often to self, but not in this instance] and sharing proceeds:D. Feeling a bit narky 'cos more petrol than usual this week already and other necessaries to come - but this is because I now have LOVELY Bus Pass offset miles and can be gratefully aware of the difference it makes.
4. In M&S for more of the excellent 1/2 price £2.99 boxed chox, found the offer was finished, having been assured otherwise not 36hrs before. So, looked about for products relating to The Times M&S coupons, printed Saturday and decided 'not really of interest/value to me'. Another browsing lady with full basket looked likely. She accepted most happily - it was good. [Aherm -Editor's Note:Didn't you keep back the desserts 1/2 price one and cash it in on 2 cream doughnuts?. Vicky Pollard Moi - yesbutnobut...had to try SOMETHING didn'I? Market Research an' I done some, innit. ']
5. Odd one maybe. I have a 100 point tillspit[valid>16.12]from Mr T for flu jab! Send me pm and addy if you'd like it. Could put it on freecycle, I know, but here feels better.
6. Thanks for Spooks heads-up, sunnygirl - hadn't really thought Box today. Took a while to catch up with Antiques Roadshow earlier, as I dropped off during 2nd half:o....
7...thus revived, decided to achieve sth without let or hindrance till a belly-up Wednesday expired[for all time- they never come round again, the good, the bad, the indifferent - worth hanging onto these trite clich!s sometimes] and listed a few books on Amazon. I'm getting into the swing of it now - much easier than ebay, but still have to do all the evaluation/research on each one before deciding whether or not. Amazing em from amazed lady, whose book I posted late Tuesday - arrived yesterday! Standard delivery, too. 2 sales in 24 hrs encourages, that's for sure.[where are you again, ollie?]
8. Oooh goody moment, when I realise it's Dr Carl night on R5 around 03
00h - soon enough now.
9. Booked ferry - £45rtn is nice. Wondering whether to do daytrip on Saints Day next week...will decide by end of this post.
10. Goodies run to X en route home from Charity. We had fun playing Shops, Ladies and she is healing, but I know it's a rocky road. Is it also me seeing myself in this situ un de ces jours? I have always been aware that it must ultimately be the most likely scenario, esp. after person had stroke last year and effects of same.....
11. made the Dior rose promised to Charity customer[earlier post]and drove to her addy. No-one home, despite earlier phone call. Eventually posted it through letterslot....back here, and:o[infinitum repeats]. Occupants of no. 15 are doubtless puzzled; intendee@ no.31 rather [choose another word] Oh dear.
12. One of my book ref. sites is addall.com - rare used and out of print book search - I like it because at every search, a new bon mot appears at top of page. Warning and Hint combined: if you like one and think 'Must make note of that/send that to X' DO IT THEN AND THERE. 'Cos you can't click back and find same one. There was a good 'un earlier:[SIZE=-1]Many a man would rather you heard his story than granted his request. [/SIZE]

13. On drive in, strange sky shoo'd North by Caterina was a perfect son et lumière marriage with some fave French chansons of Patrick Ewen, 'Bergers pour Les Vieux Enfants'. Another one that can finish me off, almost as much as the instant effect of the opening bars to 'La Gloire de Mon Père' and that fabulous helicopter swirl around Garlaban....
intended 14. Up so late now, might as well order Series 2 Hunger for The Wild from TVNZ - RECOMMENDED. Will be A Person's treat.
14. Mr T has BOGOF on coconuts @ 54p. Bought 4 - birdies' Chrimbo.
14a-Mr T supplementary. Yes, it's true[post elsewhere on site] Kerrygold butter, 250gms, IS 50p! Thought Thankyou to 2 Amazon book sales and stocked up for self and a few others who'll be pleased.
15. Have been enjoying the style of a tennis commentator unknown to me[tennis fanatic]and the surprisingly exciting listening that the O2 tournament is making. Rafa lost tonight...this nation of one mourns; others please join[not least for his judicious indignation at Agassi's revelations]
#############
Looks like my usual 5:rolleyes:.
I'm thinking of Sparrer, whose night posts tended to drop in about now.
She'll divine we're all saying:hello:and keeping her place warm and ready. Sparrer, if you're lurking, looks like it's my turn to put kettle on?:D...only one cream doughnut left...I have nobly spared you half the temptation.
Soft hugs all round, with another well-deserved Well Done to worried sick. She knows about this Thread.
In the light of today's grim setback for those reclaiming Bank charges[and Martin being at his crusading, outraged, factual, polemic best], I'm reluctant to post as an OS pleasure my thankfulness to this site. I was one of the lucky ones who successfully reclaimed Bank Fees, which arose mendaciously and unbeknown to me in the aftermath of R's suicide. I pray the others may have a way through sooner rather than later.

Ah, it's Dr Chris Smith, not Dr Carl tonight....he's good, too - and just down the road at the alma mater.

Ollie you are such a support and source of strength to others, please look after yourself.
Now what OS things did I do yesterday which pleased me:-
1. Hung the sheets on the line for a blow but then it rained, but they then dried quite quickly on the airer.
2. Had a good sort and tidy in the freezer and can now see what needs using up.
3. Leek and potato soup for lunch and three portions for the freezer.
4. Sprouts from the garden, not the best sprouts ever but hey, I had grown them.
5. Cottage pie with 'lurky' beef from the freezer.

Pants! I've just done a long and lovely post and lost it trying to tweak my signature. I'll have to have another go later tonight or I'll be sitting here with coffee and cake forever ;-)
Have a great day all.0
