Muppet - hope things went OK today.

Redsquirrel - I love "Clue" and recently saw Barry Cryer on tour when he was in Worcester. Accompanied by Colin Sell at the piano!!

    5 for today.

    1) Bit of an odd day as big son was off school poorly and little son went to his dad's straight after school then came home - also poorly. They are almost NEVER ill. Its not something to celebrate but they've been really good, coped with it well and been very cuddly and also quite helpful, which is odd! It is most likely swine flu.

    2) Went to see my mum this morning with bigger son. He wasn't quite so ill when we left home.... got to mum and dad's, fed the pigs (hope they don't have swine flu now!), got back in to help mum with bread and then bigger son had a relapse and had to spend 2 hours lying on the sofa. Apart from that, it was nice to go round and mum was playing the piano accordian in the kitchen with her friend so we got to listen to that.

    3) Bigger son and I had a quiet afternoon on the sofa in front of the stove (almost) and watched Deal then Paul O'Grady. Can't believe he's retiring :-(

    4) Can't get out to do any shopping with the ill ones so did my first online Mr T shop. I'm very excited and waiting for the man to come between 4 and 6 tomorrow. They didn't used to deliver this far into the countryside but I haven't checked and today found they do now.

    5) Not a very nice subject but I plucked up courage to go to the GP today and have my coil out. Its been making me really quite poorly with stomach cramps etc (had it 9 months so certainly gave it a good try). Feeling better already!

    6) House all spick and span and spent the evening watching Celeb by the fire with a glass of damson gin (I see a pattern forming here....)

    7) Coming upstairs to use the laptop and hearing little son laugh in his sleep! He is the only person I have ever heard do this and he does it quite often, a real chuckle.

    8) About to go to bed and listen to the storm raging outside. I reckon everything that is likely to blow away/off the house has already gone and its strangely relaxing to listen to gale force winds outside.

  • evening all - am typing with a cat on desk nuzzling me!
    So:
    warm house.
    funny cat
nice spare ribs (reduced from Waitrose) with Levi roots sauce.
reading about preparing for winter, i think everyone is buying fleece blankets to line their curtains (need strong curtain rod would think) and slankets!

    Night all.

PS: Any news from kiwi blue - our nz friend?
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

 Fab thread: Long daily walks
  • Hello all, here are mine for the day-
1.Made my Christmas cake using up various bits of dried fruit and nuts from my cupboard!! At first I was a bit disappointed to see a little bit had stuck to the bottom but it was absolutely delicious, pondering making another one to eat straight away!
2.Got a load of paperwork done which I had been avoiding.
3.Saw some friends tonight and had a really good chat.
4.My little dog running up the hill behind me to catch me up on his walk today, ears streaming out behind him!
5.Not really OS but free/cheap, had a couple of nice texts from a friend who's away working at the mo, lovely to be thought of.
    Night all, Ali x.
    £2 savers club no.107 :j £36 so far.
  • Just popping in to see if there was any word from Muppet.

Quick 5 for today (yesterday :o)

    1. Lovely OH giving me a lie in until 9am. :A
    2. A lovely HM packed lunch with OH in the office.
    3. Apple and cinnamon muffins with hot chocolate with my girls after school.
    4. Being able to stretch dinner to feed another mouth in the form of a guest who brought chocolates. :j
    5. The little robin who I rescued as a fledging in the summer, making his way into the kitchen this afternoon where he sat on the kitchen windowsill while his mate sat in the outside windowsill looking in. Very sweet but this place is beginning to feel like a zoo, or given the recent weather, an ark. :D
  • Hi all,

hugs to all who need them... as my beloved nan used to say "it can't rain all the time".

Muppet, i know it must be really hard for you at the moment - my dad is going through the same thing (his op date is 4th dec) but try to hang on in there. I hate feeling like i am in limbo (probably a control thing) but just take each day as it comes and go easy on yourself (lots of warm bubble baths and treats!)

quick 5 for today and yesterday...

    1) starting a new job yesterday (ok, its only temp for 2/3 months but it gets me to the other side of xmas!)
    2) making HM vegetarian risotto for tea yesterday (and bonus points for using up the pumpkin that had been lingering from Halloween and was still in perfect condition?!)
    3) making HM veggie spag bol for tea tonight even though i feel shattered and mentally drained from brain overload from new job
    4) falling asleep on sofa tonight after tea and only waking up at 11pm! (am now awake and not sure when i will fall asleep tonight, lol, but i must have needed it)
    5) receiving 2 bargains i won in the post (ebay) that are presents for my son for his bday/ xmas next month

Oooh, five OS pleasures - my first attempt at posting on this thread...:o

    - Dinner tonight was mostly made with leftovers from Sunday roast. :T
    - Cancelling dds/Changing address details (have just moved house) - hopefully some of these will result in money back into the account because we had acquired overpayments on account, rather than a never-ending drain out of our bank account...! :j
    - Mr P has found a job in the local paper he wants to apply for. He has been out of work for the last 3-4 years, due to ill health (both physical and mental), so for him to be so enthusiastic about a new job (and being able to cope even with the idea of applying for it...!) is a very big step forward for us... :D
    - We got two free pallets (which we can store some packed boxes on for the time being in a "dry" outhouse - giving us time to get a new roof on the "new" house we have just moved into). This will give us a chance to get the main house waterproof before moving our belongings back in. ;)
    - I give in... - I can't think of a 5th one (please forgive me!!) - will try and make sure I have 5 proper ideas before posting next time!! :p:rolleyes:

  • morning everyone, my 5 for today are.

    1. Going to my art class, being collected by good friend, so no driving, real treat.:j

    2. Rubber chicken made roast dinner, chicken, ham and mushroom bake, chicken curry and big pot of broth. Well pleased with that.:money:

    3. Wind blowing outside, sitting here all snuggly in pjs and sheepskin indoor boots eating breakfast bacon and cheese muffin and drinking real coffee. Lifes simple pleasures are the best.:D

    4. Spent time on mse, reading other threads lots of great recipes found, will report back as i try each new one.

    5. HM pizza for tea tonight. Lots of wee bits in fridge to use up.

Have a great os day, hugs to all who need them. Very large special hug to muppet. xx:A
  • Good morning all :A

I have just logged on and seen all the lovely messages of support from so many of you. It was so lovely I have just had a little cry .... thank you all again.

I had my biopsy yesterday and get the results on Monday. I was aprehensive about the whole procedure but have to say that the team of doctors and nurses in the unit were fantastic and the procedure itself painless. The big faff was getting me positioned ready for the biopsy, that took a long time but the whole team were so kind and reassuring thoughout. When they started the biopsy they told me to think about something nice, so I ran through the names I could remember from the forum and thought about your messages. I'm a little bit tender and stiff today but nothing to make a fuss about at all.

I think Blackcrow hit the nail on the head when she said that the problem is the waiting and the not being in control. I know that is a big issue with me. I do hope that your dad is OK and his results are good. Knowing how Mr Muppet is worrying about me, I understand how you will be worrrying about your dad.

You hear so many horror stories about the NHS but I could not fault a thing. They even kept Mr Muppet happy with endless supply of coffee and buscuits.

I will roll yesterdays pleasures into todays if that is OK?

    1) The wonderful treatment I received at hospital yesterday. Gold star for the NHS
    2) Mr Muppet waiting patiently for me and then presenting me with a large bag of wine gums for being brave. They are my one weakness :D
    3) Coming home to sit in front of a roaring fire with coffee provided on demand
    4) Reading all your messages and feeling warm and cared for. It helped so much.
    5) Friend who I used to work with is coming up for lunch today. She doesn't drive so this involves a walk at each end and 2 buses. I tried to put ther off as I knew the weather up here was going to be dire but she refused to cancel. Bless her

Off now to prepare lunch ready for my friend.

Bye and hugs to everyone whether you think you need them of not :A

PS Scotrae Hope the Lemsip worked
Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend

Morning everybody  - haven't peeped outside the backdoor yet but I think it's dry and doesn't sound TOO windy today  - things must be improving, I hope!

ampersand - sorry about making you go through the contents of the fruit bowl again, was just a thought ;).
bunny too - love the sound of that pork chop recipe, it's one that I keep meaning to have a go at - got the chops AND the stuffing mix . wtg you on 'fly-ladying' to your timer :T.
honey - I'm sure you speak for all of us in wishing Muppet all the best - your in our thoughts and prayers hon.
ACEY - fingers crossed for your son - hope he gets his BP badge.
red squirrel - wd you on taking the plunge in getting rid of your TV set - how I would LOVE to be able to do that - but I'm afraid I'd really miss Corrie and Emmerdale :o. Hope all goes well for your dad - they can be so difficult about not sharing stuff with the offspring - well done to yours on being so open with you :). lol at your ds2 laughing in his sleep - he must be very happy  - hope they both get better soon.
Halleous - good to see that you're taking people's advice .
Caterina - sorry to hear that you had to 'throw a wobbly' to get some help around the house - teens eh! I don't even know if they get better as they get older or if it's only when they move out and get their own places that the penny finally drops with them. And if you keep feeding them with all your home cooked delights, such as delicious home-grown bubble and squeak , the little darlings won't EVER leave ;).
SunnyGirl - I'll have to dig around for that Frosting Recipe - can tell you it IS very  and dries to crisp finish with a slight 'marshmallow' texture underneath. I DID have it it my 1970's Mrs Beeton's that I left behind when I left ex-OH about 20yrs ago. Been searching hi and low for a copy but can't find one. I have four paper-backs (Mrs Beeton's Recipes) that I got in Asda, will have a trawl through the baking one in a few minutes. By the way, delightful poem - I love all that Victorian children's stuff - Kipling, Kingsley, Marriot Edgar, Stevenson etc. THIS is my favourite :(. THIS is Rachel Allen's recipe for American Frosting - sounds very similar .
bella - awwww sorry to hear that you didn't have a good experience of a panini - we've had good ones and some bad - all depends on how the cafe/restaurant/bar make them. I'm another who goes for the value flour (in my case SmartPrice) - I DO sift it as it goes into the mix and find it's as good as any branded stuff .
yummyhoney - coooeee ;). awww at your ds2 - they do that to us you know. Give a whinge on leaving us at the door, so that WE feel upset for the remainder of the day. The minute they get inside, it's all laughs as they get on with playing and making stuff. I was once told to walk away, come back in another way and stand watching through the glass in the nursery door - couldn't believe the little 'divil' was running around laughing with his friends .
nuttybabe - the healthy eating trainer sounds like a real gem :). Good luck with coaching your ds for the school play AND for the Governor's meeting on Thursday.
Broomstick - great news about your deadline and wtg on getting Christmas sorted by 1st Dec :T.
scotrae - wd on your whoopsie hunting AND the 50p butter. Good luck on the job application AND the facepack ;).
mineallmine - :) at your cat - haven't seen anything at all from Kiwiblue for a while - hopefully they're having a good summer and just busy with planting veggies etc.
alisong - wd you on making your Christmas Cake - I never bother as I'm the only one who likes it :( - usually get a small 'iced bar' from Asda and make it last me from Christmas to New Year ;).
Haribo - awwww at your robin and his friend - getting cheeky now ;).
blackcrow - wd on starting your new job and STILL managing to do home-cooked meals as well :j - no wonder you flaked out on the sofa ;).
piglet6 - welcome :hello: to you - good luck to your OH with the job application and wd to you both on working so hard on your property.
bunnytoo - wd you on your rubber chicken - stretched to full capacity ;).
Muppet81 - we've crossed posts - great to see you hon . Well done to your OH for the wonderful way he supported you and hope you enjoyed your wine gums ;). All love and pray1.gif for you for Monday .

    Mine for yesterday:

    1. Visit from DS1 for his morning cuppa and chat - always good to see him.

    2. Phone call from DD - sounding quite good/positive at that point.

    3. OH took the initiative in christmas pressie hunting for dgs2 (8yr old WWE fanatic) - he eventually found some place in Liverpool that had three figures from his 'wish list' - phew that's another one crossed off the list!

    4. Began to feel really lousy mid/late afternoon and rang GP - no appointments till Tuesday next week  - receptionist suggested I go to the walk-in centre to get seen immediately. Made hot honey and lemon drink, took 2 paracetamol, had a sniff of the inhaler stick and sucked a throat lozenge!

    5. Phone call from DD - WWIII had broken out in the house between dgd1 and dgs1 who were killing each other - here we go again! I really worry about this as dgs1 is so unpredictable and 'out of control' at times - he's a big lad for his age and can do some damage with his feet and fists - also prone to kicking at walls/doors. DD is a private tenant and I'm her guarantor - so it's a case of 'Damage Limitation' as well  - I ain't paying for no holes in walls! Caused a row between OH and myself who said I wasn't in any fit state to go reading the riot act ............ When I got there, dgs1 threw himself on me with hugs and smiles as if nothing had happened 'Hello Narnie!' and dgd1(age 11) was curled up still sobbing (he'd ripped her school sweater and dragged her around by her hair - his face soon changed. Had to remind him that his mum isn't well and would he please think what would happen to him IF she had to go to hospital - doc has mentioned the local psychiatric ward as a possibility :(. She's asked his dad to take him for a while, but he's refused - charming.

    6. DS1 (6'3" and BIG!) arrived about half an hour later and got hold of dgs1 away from his mother and me - giving him the lecture about what happens to boys who get out of control and where they end up living (naughty boys home). We ended by telling dgs1 that we all love him very much, BUT we don't like what he's doing OR the way he behaves. He apologised all round and gave everybody a big hug - including his sister. Please God that's the end of it for a while at least.

    7. What a relief to get to bed last night! DD has rung this morning to ask me to phone the GP for an appointment - you need to keep ringing from 8.30 onwards and she HAD to be out to get dgs1 to school for 8.45 - she's booked in for 10.50 so fingers crossed ...........

Sorry for the outpouring - feel better after that :o. Hope everybody has a good mse/os day and can we have a HShuggies.gif please :). will pop in again later if I get chance - love Ollie xxx

Muppet - glad to hear your positive update (and yes thanks the Lemsip helped - although that pales into insignificance, all things considered!). Good for you for making the point about the NHS and the wonderful care and attention you had too. A team of individuals doing their very best and caring, obviously. Sending more positive vibes your way >>>

Acey - you're obviously a bit further out into the sticks than we are but I noticed your post about Barry Cryer at the Huntingdon Hall. I am determined to save up for going to see someone there next year. My 9-y-o was quite literally rolling around on the kitchen floor, laughing at I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue on Saturday. (I re-tune from the local BBC to Radio 4 for all my weekend favourites whilst pottering in the kitchen, ironing and so on!)

I have promised myself a trip around the charity shops to find some 'new' clothes later if I can make inroads into the 'Floordrobe' situation in our bedroom. Have a good day everyone!
