Good luck today, Muppet.
Also forgot one for yesterday - big son wrote a letter to Blue Peter about our recycling activities and trip (using public transport) to the Centre for Alternative Technology. He hopes to get a Blue Peter "green" badge.

Thinking of you today Muppet.
Tonight/ today:
1. Having got rid of my TV license, listening to the radio instead, caught the end of ISIHAC (kazoos :rotfl:) and a bit of Classic FM (in a former life I was a music student and couldn't resist a bit of singing along to Faure's Requiem)
2. Wrapping Christmas presents!
3. Tasty tangerines
4. Having a long chat with parents, including some 'big' stuff, my dad's dad is in hospital with heart and lung problems, family relationships are difficult so just listening to my dad's thoughts on the situation and our shared tendency to worry about all the little things but cope with the big ones.
5. Waking myself up with a run in the rain this morning. Brr - but so refreshed!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
thank you all for your kind messages =]
Muppet - hope everything is OK xox
My 5 for today are:
1. Waking up to a pile of my fav dvds and a note from OH saying not to move and he loves me.
2. Watching Mamma Mia and having a lil sing a long.
3. Making chilli for tonight then getting the cooking bug making leek and potato soup and potato and cheese patties. (Ihad a lil bit of energy now tired again haha)
4. Hearing my sister is visiting with my parent in a couple of weeks
5. My manager checking on me and telling me she doesnt want to see me til next week (in a good way of course)
Loving this thread always makes me smile

Hi all
Muppet, hope all went well and you are ok (((HUGS)))
nuttybabe, well done on your target loss of 4 st! It must have been a very disciplined year for you!
Thank you very much for all of you who sent me hugs and words of encouragement. Today, even worse day, but I am realising that it is nothing that is actually "happening" from the outside, it is just plain old garden variety depression, creeping back in as the days get short and drenched and the sun disappears for a few months. So I am just braving it, knowing that I shall turn this corner, too, it has happened many a time in my life and what the heck, there are worse things than a spot of the blues. But your hugs and kind words are really welcome and appreciated all the same!
Meanwhile no amount of dumps-ness will prevent from seeking at least five pleasures in my day and here they are:
1 - DH almost well now, managed to get up and shower, he is eating again and had no fever today.
2 - Last night I threw a majestic wobbly over the lack of support I get from the twins in the house and DH gave them a talking to, read them the riot act. This resulted in DD helping me around the house LOADS today, cleaned the front room and hoovered the stairs, helped with the laundry etc... and we had a decent day because of this.
3 - Was too down to go to my sewing class but got my sewing machine out and continued sewing the roman blinds - made more progress than if I had gone to the class because no palaver of finding machine in cupboard, bobbins somewhere else, thread somewhere else still etc.... and my machine WORKS unlike some of the college machines!
4 - Finished thread - disaster averted by a trip to Lewisham, Rolls and Rems had an almost perfect match. Tonight I hope to sew more, it seems really to lift my spirits.
5 - 10 lemons for £1 in Lewisham market, one is rotting a bit but it will be used to degrease the kitchen sink.
6 - Pack of teacakes in Mr S and teacake & cuppa with DH back home (having resisted the temptation to "treat" myself in M&S cafe while shopping).
7 - Earlier on, in the spirit of trying to keep myself positively busy, I stripped off the tomato plants from the growbags and got a couple of still edible tomatoes, plus picked one broccoli floret, some green leaves and a few lovely large beetrots from the front garden.
8 - Anticipating a nice bubble and squeak with greens and carrots from garden, together with potatoes from veg box delivery, with veggie sausages and fried red onion gravy (homemade of course).
Re-reading this post I realise that when I am doing positive things for my home and family I manage to keep some happiness going. I keep wondering whether I should not just pack in the job and be done with it, and enjoy life more, even if much more simply. I feel guilty thinking of all the people who are losing their jobs and struggling but then I say to myself that if I left my job perhaps one of these people would find it and it would help them. Feeling a bit confused at the moment, hopefully a decent night sleep will clear my thoughts a bit...
Have a good evening everybodyFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hi everyone.
Caterina It's very common to get down with the nights drawing in & it being so awful & rainy I often do. Had a bit of a down day myself today but your post has inspired me to look on the bright side & keep finding pleasures :A (((hugs))) to you xxx
Ollie I'd love the frosting recipe if you find it. I was drooling just reading about it
My five for today:
1. Whilst muttering to myself about something that DS2 (called James) had left out I said outloud 'James James Morrison Morrison Weatherby George Dupree' and was instantly transported back to him being a little boy (about 4yrs old) and me reciting this poem to him all the time. He loved it and thought it was written just for him. Here it is if anyone wants to look at it. I had a book of AA Milne poetry as a child which is how I knew it. What a lovely memory it was.
2. Thoroughly enjoying listening to Womans Hour on the radio this morning. I listen most days but just particularly enjoyed it today
3. Making a decision to get rid of the car once & for all. It's parked up on my parents driveway and needs taxing, MOTing & insuring. We put it up there during the summer when everything ran out & DH went on short hours. We certainly can't afford to sort it out now or run it with DH not working so it's a relief to have the problem lifted now. We'll all be super fit with all the walking we do now
4. Didn't get any baking done but did spend a couple of hours just reading this afternoon - a guilty pleasure as I'm normally too busy
5. Looking forward to a nice hot bath that DS2 is currently running. He's just been downstairs to tell me he's put bubble bath in too - bless him.
Muppet Been thinking about you all day xxx
Have a nice evening all & bigall round

Not a very OS/MS day yesterday but pleasant nonetheless:-
1. Went into town to return a jumper which was too big for me and ended up exchanging it for one in my size in another colour.
2. Also bought a cardigan in the same shop. Gone a bit mad on the clothes spending just lately, that's what month's of abstinence does for you.
3. Wasn't going to eat out but ended up having a panini. Never had one before, won't bother again.
4. A lazy sit in front of iPlayer when I returned home.
5. Roast chicken for tea when DD and family came.
Did rather better on the OS/MS front today:-
1. Got up and made scones so that we could have coffee and scones at home before going out on yet another shopping trip, this time with DD.
2. Only buying Value SR flour in Mr. T. He'll never make his millions out of me.
3. Eating lunch in the car, homegrown salad leaves and raddishes with the pickings off last night's chicken.
4. Lamb rissoles for tea made from 4oz lamb which has been lurking in the freezer, accompanied by sprout tops and curly kale form the garden
5. Two chicken carcasses (one from last night, one from the freezer) in sc making stock.

Evening all
Muppet, hope you are ok and today went well.
Thank you everyone, I am lucky that I have had a really good healthy eating trainer who started a free slimming club in the school and when that finished she started me on a 12 week consultation course, the last one being Monday!! I could not have done it without her help and I recommend her to everyone!! especially as it cost nothing and I personally felt she was alot better than a slimming club.
Anyway, mine for today:
1 Speaking to ds1's teacher this morning about how best to help him learn his words for the play and her telling me how clever he is and how well he is doing in his reading.
2 My mind has gone totally blank as to what I have even done today - ah yes, buying 5 pairs of socks for £2 to practice the sock monkeys on.
3 Catching up with a neighbour for a chat. I am so busy at the moment I have barely spoken to any neighbours for months!!!
4 Kids had a brilliant time at a birthday party and I could sit down and watch them run around wearing themselves out having fun and more importantly no argueing or fighting between any of the kids at the party.
5 Kids had an early night as they were all so tired from the party!
well, I have a huge stack of papers to go through for Thursdays parent/govenor meeting - i really dont think that will be a pleasure!!!! :P0 -
Evening all. My five for Tuesday:
1. Discovering that the deadline I've been panicking about all day isn't until next week. Phew
2. Realising that my 'get all Christmas presents bought and wrapped by 1st December' resolution might well be manageable this year.
3. We normally only have a tree for Xmas decorations but because I've been feeling less rushed this year I'd wondered about doing a bit more and I'd saved an article from a local paper about a day-long Christmas wreath making workshop that looked as if it might be fun to do as a family. I looked up the organisers' website and discovered that they were charging £65 per participant . Can you imagine, over £200 for all of us (which is more than what I would expect to spend on the whole of Christmas put together, including prezzies and food!)? So I've done some internet searching and found all sorts of ideas for making a wreath for our front door for free. I now need to search for a local wood where we might be allowed to collect greenery and wait for a sunny day to go and get it
4. Two good phone calls: one to someone whom I need to meet up with connected to me making my 'must get moving and finish this project' decision from yesterday, and the other to my best friend who is currently working in the States. Have been trying to contact him for over a week. Lovely call.
5. Not OS/MS at allbut I gave in to putting the central heating on all day - we've all been in and it's been just lovely having some warmth.
Heigh ho. Need to organise clothes and a picnic basket for tomorrow plus work to take with me because we have another very early start.
Sleep well everyone.

Checking in early because I'm off to have a nice warm bath and some Lemsip!
Timing my trip to Tesco perfectly for half price fruit, veg, bread and raisin loaf.
Stocking up on butter at only 50p for 250g thanks to a MSE tip off - Christmas bakes will taste so much better knowing it's real butter at that price!
Discovering 9p packs of Tesco Value shortbread fingers. DH and DS2 think they are great. (DS guessed they'd be 40-50p per pack, even though he knew they were Value ones!)
Getting another application off - relatively painless this time, just a quick phonecall and emailing my CV (never to be heard of again?).
Trying to think of a fifth apart from the nice warm bath I'm about to have. How about treating myself to some posh firming face masks - 6 for £1.94. Can't wait to try one out first thing tomorrow for that instant 'face lift'. I'll let you know whether it does the trick!0
