Morning everyone from a night owl
Thanks everyone for your good wishes /congrats on my getting voluntary redundancy! I've got used to the idea, and am VERY excited about it! My last day in work is Wednesday this week, and as I don't work Mondays that's only 2 days to go :j Now that I'm certain it's the right move for me, I just want to go - now! I've already applied for 2011 census work - should be good fun if I'm accepted.
This weekend's pleasures:-
1) Spending my Tesco clubcard vouchers and getting a great jacket and scarf all for 'free'
2) Nice day out with friends yesterday
3) Planning to make lots of nice casseroles etc and freeze off portions
4) Looking forwards to having lots of time for my crafting now that work will no longer get in the way
5) Finished my Christmas shopping :j First time ever that I've got it all done before December 1st
Keep safe and warm everyone,
Pam x0 -
Good morning all. Just a quick post for now as it snowed a lot again last night and unfortunately I have to go out and drive in it very soon.
My five for yesterday,
1. DD2's sleepover went well and the girls were no problem, getting outside and playing in the snow by 8.30am.
2. Walking over to the supermarket meant I could only buy what I ould carry and didn't waste any money.
3. Two of my clients cancelling their calls so I didn't have to go to them and a was able to take more time travelling to the others.
4. Getting home in one piece (just!)
5. Hot sausage rolls and a cup of coffee when I got home.
Please take care everyone and don't drive if you dont have to. X0 -
Snowy waves from here, too. The pleasure/novelty factor does not dim for kiwi moi.
1. Crunched off to early gym in dark for pre-7 start. Came out as snow began to fall and flurry increasingly. I love to gaze up into descending flakes - mesmeric.
2. Half-way back, finally caught one flake to melt on my tongue.
3. Computer MAYBE sorted out, a bit after 0230h,meanwhile hearing amazing cricket through the night after disappointment of Rafa's loss.
4. Garrow's Law is terrific.
5. Will shortly listen again to David Walliams and Andrew Motion[now 'Sir'd, apparently]discussing DW's love for Larkin's poetry and patently enjoying each other's appreciation. Loved it. Walliams keeps Larkin's Collected Poems beside his bed - and so do I - or rather, close to hand in the book maze which populates my Land of Counterpane[which I also like much - early childhood poem of Walter de la Mare].
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00w6q44/David_Walliams_on_Philip_Larkin/
6. But will listen first to Kenneth Williams biog, just starting on R4 now.
7. Mended nuisance 3-way rip that was nearly separating thumb from beloved thick lambskin glubs. It may look clumsy[not too bad really], but they're saved for now.
8. Arriving back this morning, went straight out again and filmed falling snow and grazing sheep[including a head-to-head butting contest]. It was good to watch them snow scraping, nuzzling ground and munching winter crop in a steady progress.
It's the first time I've deliberately attempted filming - it's happened a couple of times by accident. Now I have to work out how to upload from mem.stick - have hit a techie msg already. Googling time, hither.
9. Birds' water trays sharply upended to tip out 2" thick discs of solid ice. Those from the last few days have not melted, so ice sculptures are mounting on the grass. Yesterday. it needed doing twice by late afternoon. Lots of birdie interest in all food/water activity.
10. Tempted to try the winter forcing of rhubarb, as described in Saturday's Daily Telegraph. I still have 2 potato bags to harvest.
11. Scoured grill mightily while watching small nothings through kitchen window - birds, sheep, snow, leaves drifting, creatures darting and that particular sound of silence that snowfall brings.
Suspect I should check whether drains man is coming out today or not - due this afternoon. Feels unlikely now.
How lucky we all are to be able to share with immediacy our sightings of owls, of deer, of snow happiness, of buoying walks and returns to snug households of every kind.Memory Bank riches to everyone today.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Hi All
Its been a while since I posted really............... I need to make more of an effort!
Work is a nightmare at the moment. The sad this is, I absolutely love my job! The management however, is another story. I just feel constantly stressed at the moment :-(
Its a bit like, Orwells. "Animal Farm" for those who have read it.
Anyway, I thought that thinkign of some pleasures would cheer me up and motivate me a bit!
1. Have a nice day off work today as I had some holidays to use up!
2. Am clearing out the house so its Xmas ready! Just having a good sort out.
3. DH was away camping this weekend (yes, you heard that right; CAMPING) so I had a nice weekend with the TV and the bed all to myself!
4. The snow outside looks beautiful (its probably lethal to walk on but I think it looks lovely.)
5. Havent had the heating on today so far................. may have to put it on later as its a bit chilly.
6. Last nights leftovers in the oven for lunch. Sausages in Gravy and baked beans and a nice jacket potato.
7.Realising its only 26 days till I see my mum and brother. Mum lives abroad and I havent seen my bro since my wedding 18 months ago as he lives quite a distance away and we are both guilty of not making enough effort!
8. Making my XMas Ipod playlist to listen to while I am doing the house. I love Xmas!!
Hope everyone else is having a lovely day! xx0 -
Hi everyone. Been a while since I posted, but still. My 5 for today:
1 - snow snow and more snow - must be about 5 inches outside and more on the way.
2 - hiking the mile and a half to Tesco just to get some veg - it was a gorgeous walk (not so good on the way back)
3 - School being closed - YIPEEEE No early morning start
4 - Not being able to get into work - partly due to school closure, ill child and then SNOW!
5 - the sheer magical beauty of the heavy snow / the blizzards. I love it.
Hope you all stay warmMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Hi Everyone,
Just a quick one today as I need to dash into London this afternoon as I have to go to a dinner tonight and don't want to be caught up in too much of the madness if I can help it.
1) Working from home
2) Went to see my councellor this morning and feel absolutely drained now... but it's good and I have made another appointment for next week.
3) Sitting doing my work in my Shawn the Sheep slippers and fluffy dressing gown.
4) Getting my washing done this morning when the old bat down stairs was out so that she couldn't complain about the washing machine.
5) Feeling to good ache from the badminton yesterday.
Have a lovely rest of the day.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Thank you for your good wishes for my DD. She is in the kitchen now, arranging a bunch of flowers that her bf bought for her birthday. I'd say he's definitely got the right idea.
1) Getting to work this morning without incident. I lost a lot of confidence when I slid into something in our last snowy patch.
2) Finding a yellow-sticker chicken for this evening's meal and some veg in the bottom of the fridge that miraculously have not gone wrinkly.
3) Going out this evening for dessert and coffee at a friend's house in the next street. She's as keen on saving money as I am when it comes to going out for meals and it makes it so much easier than my wealthier friends who are extremely understanding but haven't really gone through the same phase.
That's it for today. Hope you are all keeping warm and driving safely.0 -
Evening all. I hope everyone's staying warm in all this chilliness.
esmf73 - I quite agree with you about snow - great stuff! There's a chance Portsmouth will get some tonight, apparently (although nowhere near as much as you've got, I'm sure) - I really hope so!
ampersand - I love your descriptions of 'your' sheep - I can almost see them. I wish I could see sheep outside my kitchen window, rather than the brick wall that's actually there.I love the snowy smilies, which made me smile on a Monday morning.
sparrer - thanks for the tip on the Matalan jumpers. I could really do with a new one (or two) - I'll have to pop in next time I'm passing that way.
************************
My pleasures for today:
1) Treated myself to some new thermal socks. They weren't cheap, but I'm sick of being unable to feel my toes while I'm in the office. (The heating system blows hot air out of ceiling vents, which means our heads get warm but our feet freeze.)
2) HM spicy tomato soup for lunch - just right after a chilly walk round the shops.
3) It looks like the problem with the fire alarm in my flat might finally be resolved - someone's coming round tomorrow morning, before I go to work, to fix the existing one. I hope that will be an end to the saga!
4) Chicken casserole for dinner, made yesterday and currently warming through in the oven.
5) And I might do stewed plums and custard for pudding - if I can find the custard powder, at any rate.
Have a nice, warm evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
hi all, here's mine from the last few days:
1. My smart knee length winter coat (charity shop of course) still fits from last year - even tho it's a 12 and I'm not :rotfl:
2. The cold crisp sunny days - love it.
3. Lost 1 ½ lbs this week - it's a start
4. Meeting OH for lunch.
5. OH having been paid so we have no money worries for the minute.
6. Finally getting tax credits we applied for at the beginning of August - still waiting for child benefit though, but it's a start.
7. A friend at work making me laugh by being simply mad.
8. My cousin loving her home made beaded present.
9. Coming home to my OH.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Good evening all. Been another scary driving day today but at least it was incident free!
Ampersand, loving the snowy pictures.
CCP, the soup sounds delicious. I had some red pepper and wensleydale soup the other day which was scrummy.
Newlywed, really well done on the weight loss.
My five for today,
1. Three lovely people giving me a push when my car got stuck on a bit of a hill.
2. An unexpected text message from a lovely new friend just to check I was ok in the snow.
3. Phone call with my big brother.
4. Pots washed, tomorrows lunches made, ironing done and a nice hot shower.
5. My loved ones all safe and well.
Love to all. X0
