5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

-
Here they come in no particular order ce soir[nothing new there then] -
1. I'm listening to this on pop-out player now:
If nothing else, please listen to the 'It's been a quiet week in Lake Woebegon' section. Supremely blissful...again.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00w6gl0/Garrison_Keillors_Radio_Show_Series_6_7_Premiere/
2. I note your change of siggy, ccp. I took an early pic before 7 and skyped it to other side of world. The sheep are well-mantled and made quiet sounds of munch and small movement and little 'maaa' content.
3. The day became beautiful with the sun.
4. Town was crammed, but a parking space opened up near the Optician and, on the off-chance, I popped in. Hooray! - my new glasses had arrived 10 minutes previous although not yet due, while I listened to the tail-end of The Now Show - will listen to it all properly after Garrison. i-player is wonderful.
5. The sharp cold has brought the birds in to feast.
6. H/m rosehip syrup is lush - thought it was a failure.
7. New recipe herb bread just out of oven, seedy loaf just in - good scents pervade squat.
8. Biltong is now hooked up in airing cupboard for the long drying out - but not before another engineering arrangement didn't work and I nearly lost the lot all over the floor. The remaining mix I am using to marinate some skirt steak for a casserole. V. pleased to see Mr T is now offering this, whereas Waitrose are not, despite their resurrection of old-fashioned cuts. I love skirt steak.
9. Eased my Grauniad principles to one side again in order to have the free Duchy Originals mincemeat pies being offered with today's DT[from Mr T:points mean prizes] at Waitrose.
10. Rafa is beyond belief - what a stunning victory, with great pathos and grace ever present when he beats Andy M. Now I must see him through to title victory demain - although he is not in tiptop physical shape.
11. Ditto All Blacks' victory which followed.
12. Just took 2nd bread out - brushed top with red pesto at last minute - smells/looks good.
13. In kitchen I'm hearing Sebastian Faulks talking about J G Ballard - also need to hear all of this again.
14. Was in time for 14.30h start of village Care Home Fair. I support their events when I'm around; there is a special atmosphere there.
15. My tights did not fall down - I have found a cheapo source of decent ones[Primark's always fall down. Drives me mad]in a newly refurbished rival New Look-style shop AND they have interesting styles, colours, patterns.
16. I have looked forward at odd moments throughout the day to finishing my book tonight, with another to start. I have taken to Peter James' crime novels, on the recommendation of Italian Tony. On my last visit, he showed me the latest one that mumoftwins had brought to him......
17. Some mse advice has meant my computer is behaving, working stably and much faster...atm.
18. Caterina - Alan Coren was a wonderful writer, broadcaster, satirist and humorist beloved of R4 and print.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Coren
There was a joyous series when he and Christopher Matthew obtain their Bus Passes and set off....
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/freedompass/pip/0qw1b/
It was repeated after his death.

1. being woken up by my youngest DGS Mikey at 07.45 this morning for a cuddle and a biscuit as I was staying at his house babysitting the four boys
2.The boys faces when my son-in-law told them what I had given him for his 40th birthday yesterday, two of them are going with him to Anfield to see Liverpool play 'live' on the 18th December
3.telling the other two that his Mum and I are taking them up to london to ride on the London Eye on that day as a special treat

I have had a lovely 24 hours looking after my little lads and now am going to put my feet up and watch some mindless t.v. and do some knitting.0 -
Hi all,
Ampersand thank you for pointing me to the link to Alan Coren. I asked DH and he remembers him. I never heard of him. Tried to listen to the Freedom Pass thingy but did not work, will look into it another time as I need to go to sleep soon!
Here are my pleasures for today:
1 - Panettone for breakfast (I had to try one from my order to see if it is good enough to give as a gift - really! Because it is not a known name I wanted to make sure. The verdict is OK!
2 - Went to the shop to pick up pijamas to send to my nephews and niece in Italy.
3 - Caught up with my friend at the supermarket and she bought me a cup of tea and a sandwich (we take turns). We had a nice hour chatting at the cafe.
4 - Went with DH to a Latin ballroom dance taster that I had got as a special deal on the internet. Lots of fun! We learnt the basics of rumba, cha cha, samba and jive.
5 - Dinner of lentil and cabbage soup, followed by apple puree from AF.
Good night everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Good evening all,
Thanks for all the congratulations on the house situation!
So, my pleasures for today -
1) Spent nearly 2 hours going through all the paperwork in the house and shredding anything not needed and making sure everything was filed where it should be - very satisfying!
2) Got lots of jobs done in town - bank, post office, sorting office, library etc
3) Got a couple of books from the library - and read one this afternoon - couldn't put it down!!
4) OH is away so have been able to listen to classic fm ALL day with no complaints!
5) Wearing OH's snugpak coat which is designed for arctic weather whilst walking the dog - warm as toast!!
6) YS sausages made a delicious tea of sausage and onion crust bread sarnie...mmmmm!Clearing debt to save for a simple wedding.Starting 2016 With debt of £77000 -
Evening,
sounds like everyone seems to have had a really good day.
Ampersand - ooh biltong.... yum!!!
Sparrer - cunning plan on getting rid of your white lilac!
1) sleep in and only woke up at 9.15am!
2) Took my car to the garage (AGAIN!!) for it's MOT this time. But it failedbut the pleasure it is that the only reason if failed was the washer fluid pump which they should be able to fix next weekend for £20)
3) My team won the rugby
4) Met up with a guy who is trying to start a local meetup group for a drink this evening to see how we could move things forward. He was really nice and I think that we are going to make a success of the group despite the best efforts of the group owner.
5) Snooze with the kitty on the sofa this afternoon.
Night all.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Well it's just gone midnight but just wanted to pop in and share my 5 pleasures;;;
1. Having a super lazy morning.
2. Staying home all day and not having to go out in the snow and freezing cold.
3. Putting the desk i brought DD from ebay, together...i swore a bit, but we got there in the end.
4. Setting up old desktop computer for DD as her laptop has finally packed up...it quite literally is in two visible halves
5. Having the luxury of the heating, and having it on for an extended period today...because....i am in credit with them anyway, and last night i managed to switch my supplier through Quidco, so i have the credit to use up anyway, and all being well, i should have the new energy account credited with a bonus amount of £100.00 AND get £80 cash back. Don;t know if any of you are on Quidco and are looking into changing your Gas or Lecky suppliers, but if you go through Quidco it could be worth your while. Must point out that i am in no way affiliated with Quidco other than as a consumer myself! Just like to pass on tidbits of info that might be of help to others.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
NSD Challenge: October 0/140 -
Frith congrats on reducing the debt, that's really great news
. Have you been through CCCS? When I was in a similar situation, I found creditors actually hold CCCS in high regard and if you can quote a ref number it may help. But I'm probably teling what you already know
CCP hope you find a sofa you like at a price you're happy with, and it fits through your doors!
Tealady sounds like your DD has the OS habit well and truly sorted out
beachbaby hope your perfect amount of snow doesn't grow any bigger. Oddly my DS said there was none in his part of Lancs yet 80 miles away my friends in W Yorks had quite a bit. The ski slope party sounds great fun
Kittikins make room for me please, I don't do snow and cold either! Do I remember you went to the Steiner school fete last year too? It rang a bell as I was in that part of Sx for a few years. Your house sounds lovely and cosy, warm bread and the heating to go home to
ampersand I well recall Alan Coren, mainly for his DM column and Call My Bluff days. Great fun to read, and listen to. I like the idea of painting the loaf with pesto, I may just 'steal' that tip from you.
Jackie you day with the DGC sounds like bliss, and what a lovely surprise the starfish was. Enjoy the Eye, I did it and thoroughly enjoyed it, now I'd like to try it at night (when the weather's warmer). Grandchildren...there's nothing better. And putting your feet up afterwards is pretty good too
Caterina the dance class sounds fun. Well done on making it safely across Oxford Street! (I know that's a different thread but I'm easily confused).
niksyg well done on sorting out the paperwork, a good feeling when it's all in order. Yummy sausage sandwiches, one of my fav indulgences
Ladyhawk good luck with the social group, sounds like a nice idea. Tough luck about the car though, hope they get it fixed for the price they quoted. I thought the tree idea was pretty nifty but no takers yet
katholicos well done getting the desk together, not the easiest of tasks. Thanks for the tip re fuel, my supplier was the first to go up, 9% so I'm defiitely looking for something cheaper. I'll have to join Quidco first though
1. Not impressed with the white stuff I woke up to, but thank goodness for ch and thermal undies. I was quite cosy indoors
2. Made a chicken casserole with the drumsticks, thighs and wings in the sc with lots of pulses, which will make me 5 or 6 meals. The breasts will be frozen for roasting, stir fries etc., and the scraps get mixed in with the dogs rice.
3. The smattering of snow I woke up to was almost gone by this evening
4. Not really a pleasure but I've cancelled tomorrows visit to DM, mainly motorways but didn't fancy getting stuck down there if it should snow again. I promised I'd go as soon as I can, luckily she's the sort to tell me not to go and understands it's sensible to waiit.
5. Am making a conscious effort not to pick between meals, I know round is a shape but I have to try to at least get oval
Night night, sweet dreams

CCP - no, don't think I used CCCS (?) Some of the debt was bank charges HSBC had piled on years ago which the Financial Ombudsman basically wangled back for me as HSBC had refused to reply to my letters. The rest was PPI which I got back using this site! Just got to see if they accept for final offer of settlement now then I will have to have a non-debt party (or at least fish and chips!)
1) Had brunch (sausages, mushrooms and beans).
2) Smaller son went to play next door for a while.
3) Good Housekeeping magazine came in the post (my friend gets me a subscription for Christmas).
4) The builder dropped off the scaffolding ready to start work next week - hoorah!
5) My sister and cat moved house without incident.
6) Had a tonne of logs delivered and wheelbarrowed them round to the garden and stacked them.
7) Sons and I sat in my bed to watch Casualty - next thing I knew it was 11pm!
8) MrN came round and has just gone. :-)
and 9) Have done so many YouGov surveys a £50 cheque is on its way to me!0 -
It has been DD's 18th birthday this weekend, so we have had an amazing time.
1) Made a dinner party for DD on Friday - just us, DS's gf and DD's bf's Mum. The salmon fillet I had picked up in Mr T's recently came in very handy and we had a lovely relaxing evening for about a quarter of the cost of going out to celebrate. All the fizzy was bought in the sale and DD's bf brought the mints. Everything else was on special offer!
2) Had brunch together on Saturday morning and opened presents. Such a lovely family time and I'd actually remembered to charge up my camera beforehand. One of the best-appreciated presents on an immediate basis was an album I had made about DD, starting with baby photos and working up to recent ones of her with her friends. I had all sorts of people e-mailing pictures in to be included, so can't take all the credit, but she really enjoyed it and her best friend wants one now.
3) Coffee date with OH before we had to do taxi duties in the evening.
4) Must not forget to say that DS washed up a very fishy baking tin with no complaints. Gave me an opportunity to tell him what a star he is.
5) Dessert and a bottle of wine at a friend's while DD was out for her birthday cocktails and DS was with his gf. We deliberately organised something to do so that we didn't sit in the house wondering where the time has gone.
5) DD, bf etc returned from the evening intact, with my camera and all crashed out in various rooms.
Now all I have to do is persuade DH to fold up the bunting for me.0 -
Afternoon all
Patchwork Quilt - Glad your DD had a lovely birthday, the memory photo album sounds great!
Very cold here, we're all still in jammieshaving a lazy Sunday though we might shift ourselves to go out for a walk later. The sky is perfectly blue and the air crisp - my favourite kind of day
Yesterday's 5:
1. Being woken up by DD with the classic "Muuuuuummmmm its snowwwwed!!!!!!!". I feigned surprise at this, didn't tell her i'd already been woken up at 5am by DH to tell me it had snowed lol, he's like a big kid. Only a light dusting of it, enough to look pretty but not to make snowmen or snowballs much to their disappointment.
2. A visit to the Christmas Fair at the church my grandparents attend, lovely festive atmosphere.
3. We took the kids on the local steam train for a ride, going to a cafe at the big station for some lunch. Its a local heritage railway, all traditional little platforms, waiting rooms and cafe etc. It was all done up with Xmas decs too, looked so pretty.
4. Back home to a warm house and a sit down with a cup of tea and a HM chocolate brownie bought from the Xmas fair.
5. My parents came round early evening for a few drinks, it was my dad's birthday. He was very pleased with his present and the cards the kids made.
And some for today even though i know its only halfway through!
1. Woke up at 4am (as per usual!) for a wee and couldn't get back to sleep, came downstairs to make some tea and surf the net for a bit, lovely and peaceful time before the rest of the clan get up.
2. DH got up with the kids at 9am, must have been all snug in their beds to sleep until then! And i went back to bed for a couple of hours sleep.
3. DH brought me breakfast in bed at 11.30, tea, toast and boiled eggsHe's been extra helpful in recent weeks with the kids and around the house, knowing that i'm struggling at the moment with being pregnant and the cold weather affecting my FM. Love him lots.
4. Made the kids a den under the dining table with a huge throw, they've got the toy food in there, cushions and blankets and its lovely to hear them playing.
5. Looking forward to HM mushroom soup and bread for tea, with the rest of the chocolate brownies to finish off
Hope everyone is ok and enjoying their weekend, taKe care
