5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

  • Afternoon, everyone. Hope you're keeping warm in this chill snap. Just reporting my pleasures for the day, so here goes:

    1. A fairly easy tea - lasagne and pastitsio from the freezer, just need microwaving for tea and a garlic bread popped in the oven.
    2. DH brought me a cup of tea in bed. :)
    3. The snow looks to be clearing. It's still icy in places and being so new to driving I've decided not to use it in the icy conditions as I don't want to panic. That's the sensible side of me speaking. The other side of me is feeling really low because I got the car so I wouldn't be reliant on other people or public transport. :( DH is really supportive of me not driving in the ice and tells me not to worry about it (he'd be worried anyway if I did drive in). I'm fretting over it though because I don't want to impose. I do wish the conditions would improve!
    4. DH has said he'll take me into work tomorrow, and pick me up in the evening. He is such a sweetheart, and still rather stressed, so I've got to find a good way to make it up to him.
    5. I made a Christmas decoration today. About 10 years ago I had one of those fake gemstone elasticated bracelets which I got fed up of. It was clear crystal fake stones, rough cut and tumbled-looking rather than polished and professional cut, and I snipped the elastic. For whatever reason back then, I kept the beads. Anyway, on some silver cross-stitch thread today (another freebie from the front of a mag) I threaded some of the gemstone beads on to make a kind of icy drop. It should look really nice on the tree.

Anyway, that's my day. I hope everyone is having a good one. Keep warm, and take care!

I totally empathise KB (()) I've been driving since I was 17 (23 years) and I'd consider myself a competent driver but driving abroad and driving in snowy condition are the two things that absolutely freak me out! The thought of it even makes me feel anxious. Especially now we've moved to a more rural location where the roads don't get cleared. The advent of snow this week bought out my anxiety but luckily it's not been too bad. My DH can't drive so the onus is on me as the only driver :(

niksyg - congratulations on having your offer accepted. How exciting!:j
frugalpam - great news about your voluntary redundancy. :T
And Caterina - is that your two days up now? And love the sound of your Latin ballroom taster. :D
Welcome back Lilmisskitkat and kittikins
Sparrer - Good plan re the white lilac! Not long now till your Indian trip is it? :D
Frith - That's amazing news about your debt total :T
beachbaby - DD2's party sounded like great fun. What a great idea!
Ladyhawk - what a pain about your car needing yet more work. But good for you and friend for sorting out your meet-up group.:T
Patchwork - Happy 18th Birthday to your DD. Glad you've had such a fab weekend.

Here are mine from the weekend:

    Sat
    1) Spent the day cosy inside the house.
    2) After doing my jobs I settled down to watch some catch up tv on 4od while crochrt-ing some christmas trees for a garland.
    3) Had a look online at some villas in Spain that will sleep 8 for our family get together next year. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I LOVE dream-holiday shopping on the interenet! :D
    4) Fish and Chip takeaway for tea (was meant to make it myself but didn't need much persuading to have the chippy do it instead.
    5) Watching I'm a celebrity get me out of here in front of the fire.

    Sun
    1) Glad to see that the snow hadn't really settled here as threatened .
    2) We drove to Holkham beach for an utterly freezing but fantastic walk.
    3) The boys got absolutely covered in wet sand rolling down the dunes. DS2's pure wool duffle coat was looking in a very sorry state but I had to surpress my inner nag as they were having such fun - and anyway, it brushed off without a problem in the end.
    4) Scoffing big slices of whoopsied ploughman's pie when we got back to the car!
    5) Looking forward to the sunday roast tonight with an open fire and more telly this evening! Bliss :)

    Evening all,

hope you are well this evening. I'm not feeling too well today. Probably because I haven't been eating properly recently. So I have coem bread and a lasagne in the oven and hopefully that will make me feel better.

KB - lucky you have a wonderful husband to drive you to work.

    1) My first ever badminton session this morning - and what fun!! I will definitely going back again next week.

    2) Snooze on the sofa this afternoon with the Kitty.

    3) Watching Psych on TV after my snooze. It's a little like The Mentalist but as a comedy. Well worth it for the rather lovely lead charater, Shawn.

    4) Making the lasagne this evening from really bulked out mince. I made some soup the other week which I didn't really like so I shoved that in with the mince and some black eye beans. I think it may be a little odd but at least it wasn't wasted and with all the cheese sauce I have slathered over it, it should be fine. I am desperately trying to empty my freezer as it is frostier than my garden this morning! So I am expecting to eat a few wierd combos.

    5) I'll be giving my mum a call a little later to see how she is, and to see whether my Dad is recovered from his bronchitis.

Righteo - have a great week everyone, and keep warm!

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Evening all.

It'll have to be a quick one from me this evening as I haven't got long til I've got to out.

    1) It snowed! :j Not much - just enough to make the garden look like it had been dusted with icing sugar - but at least I got some. :D

    2) Rather naughtily, I've had the heating on for most of the day. I needed to dry a towel for a shower, but it was rather nice being all nice and warm while watching falling snow.

    3) HM bread made from Approved Foods flour -I've worked out it cost me about 10p for a loaf. :)

    4) Made a chicken casserole for tomorrow's dinner. I often don't feel like cooking on a Monday night, so it will be nice to know I just need to warm it up and add some dumplings.

    5) Out with friends at the pub quiz tonight. The pub's always dreadfully over-heated, but that seems rather appealing tonight.

    Have a nice evening, all.
Back after a very long break!

    Hi all

Patchwork Quilt, happy 18th birthday to your DD!

Blimus, no the 2 days are not up yet, they will be Weds and Thurs. But on Weds I am going to lunch with an Italian colleague who is great fun to talk with so I am actually looking forward to it. Thurs will be my last last last day! But hopefully between tying up loose ends with the boss and saying goodbye to all my colleagues it will probably go quick. In any case, what are going to do to me if I leave early, sack me?:rotfl:

Ladyhawk, I hope you feel better now (rather than "soon", as the little boy said) and treat yourself to some nice healthy lovely meals.

Here are my pleasures for today:

1 - Smoked salmon on sourdough bread for breakfast, courtesy of DH.

2 - Free film preview also with DH, very good film, both hilariously funny and incredibly sad: The Be All And End All, we really enjoyed it.

3 - Nice (and cheap!) meal out, I highly recommend Maoz for anyone who wants a cheap delicious meal in Central London, this place is in Soho and it does felafel, but also eat-as-much-as-you-want salad bar, so a small felafel sandwich, which is really enough for lunch, with unlimited salad, costs £3.90.

4 - Window shopping for posh clothes in the arcades on both sides of Piccadilly, then a Ladies Powder Room stop (me, not DH :rotfl:) in Fortnum and Mason, where we had a nosey around and a taster of chocolate Christmas pudding, which was on offer for the mere price of £18 something !

5 - After window shopping we had a long walk around the less busy streets of London, walked through Green Park and all the way through St James Park (the lake was frozen solid!) to Westminster station.

6 - As we resisted the temptation to have a posh cream tea in the tea salons of Central London, we stopped at the supermarket on our way home, got scones (2 pacls of 6 which were 2-4-1 for £0.99!), brandy butter and a couple of other bits and pieces and had a posh tea at home with family and kids's friends, for a minute fraction of what we would have paid out, but much nicer because it was in our living room in front of a nice blazing fire!

7 - DD and her BF cooked us dinner, polenta with tomato sauce and apple and plum compote with soya custard. Yummy!

    Good night everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Back again :) Can't keep away now, tee hee! Thanks for the welcome back.

    1. DD made a lovely advent candle wreath in church and we burned our first candle this evening

    2. Yummy lunch at a friend's flat, and saw her parents for the first time in about 20 years, lovely people. They were road-testing ideas for Christmas, so we had a feast :)

    3. Friend took us to her first ever music concert where everyone performed beautifully, a range of very young children up to people even older than her, tee hee, she's a year younger than me, a real young pup :)

    4. DD did me proud by not being phased by meeting the parents, in fact I think she wanted to adopt them!! and was also perfectly behaved at the concert, which I kind of expect of her as she is my daughter after all, but is also very heart-warming at the same time.

    5. DD also made an amazing sharp and funny play on words that astounded us all at lunch.

    6. The parents paid for my ticket to the concert, which unbeknownst to them was even more gratefully received than they could imagine, given the state of my finances at the moment....roll on payday!

    7. We saw a couple of flakes of snow as we drove to friend's place but thankfully they didn't settle.

    8. Tired little DD has twisted my arm to sleep in my bed (yet again). I know, I'm too soft but she does look a bit peaky and that way I can keep an eye on her........or stay warm with cuddles!

    9. My home-made bread from yesterday wasn't a perfect success but was nice enough toasted for breakfast and the birds enjoyed lots of crumbs afterwards.

    10. Listening to Radio 4 at dinner with DD and smiling when she started singing along to the Archers' theme tune. As we listen to her story CDs in the car nearly all the time, I insist on R4 in the kitchen for a bit of balance , and she's picking up a lot. Have to mute it sometimes when the news headlines come on, she's only 5 and I want to shield her from some things for a while longer...
  • Just sneaking in for a quick post.............hope everyone's keeping warm.

My pleasures are not from a particular day, but from Friday onwards.

    1) Went to Mr T's Friday morning & on the way there saw 4 old fashioned travelling wagons parked on grass verge on bypass with about 6 carthorses tethered up nearby. Got a 6 pint carton of milk, a huge bag of porridge and a couple of bags of carrots which I dropped off on way home. The smile of amazement and appreciation from the girl I gave them to was my pleasure.

    2) My eldest son's friend was celebrating her 21st so he came up to be there, which means I got to see him.

    3) Spending a lovely 1/2 hr with DS1 and 4 of his mates in the kitchen and them making cheese sarnies before I drove them to the party.

    4) I was doing a dinnerparty for 1 of my clients and as I was arranging the flowers I looked out of the window to see about a dozen deer in the snowy field.

    5) Getting a lovely text ref the above thanking me for all I did and the lovely food.

    6) Being able to light my woodburner after getting it sorted - finally!

    7) A lovely PM.............this site is just so great!

    8) Not getting up until nearly 10 today - that was originally a  but I've turned it into a :D POSITIVE THINKING ;)

    9) A phonecall from my client for tomorrow morning telling me to bring my wet washing and dry it on their airer over the Aga..........how nice is that? As well as MSE :)

    10) Had a nice drink of Cointreau last night (another of my clients had a bottle with a few inches in it so gave it to me)

    HUGS to all............DD x

5 for today (Sunday). Feeling a bit 2nd hand at the moment so I'll see how far I get.

    1) Having a lie in.

    2) Going to the school Christmas Fair with sons. Bigger son suddenly decided he didn't want to see Santa "But Mummy - I'm 10" :-(

    3) Walked to the local pub and back - 5 miles altogether. Bearing in mind it didn't get above -4 today we did quite well! We had some squash and a packet of crisps each.

    4) My school friend came over.

    5) Made pizza and baked potatoes for tea then lots of mince pies and jam tarts.

    6) MrN came over, couldn't stop because his DS4 is poorly but it was nice to see him. :-)

Kitchenbuny I've been driving more years than I care to remember, I'll do M-ways, continental etc but I will NOT drive on snow and/or ice. If you listen to the weather reports on television and radio they always advise people not to drive when the weather's this bad. Please don't feel low, or as though you're imposing - in actual fact what you're doing is exactly what they advise. If only more people had your common sense!
Blimus sounds like you had a busy, fun fill weekend :D. It was lovely to read about your attitude to DS2's coat, too many people are so busy fretting the small stuff they don't have time let the DC have fun :). Our holiday's on 4th Feb, I didn't realise that going further afield that usual caused so much more to do
Ladyhawk, look after yourseld and take care, get well now :).
dundeedoll what an amazing sight the deer must have been :D ..a bit like -

    1. - driving along the lanes yesterday I saw a tawny owl sitting on a bare tree branch. Had to do a double take and slowed right down, couldn't stop unfortunately, and have no idea why it should be there in daytime but what a beautiful sight it was, sitting there watching the occasional car pass by :D
    2. Went to Mat@lan and bought two nice soft crew neck jumpers to go under chunky sweaters for extra warmth. I only meant to buy one but they were £7 each or £10 for two. What was a girl to do? ;)
    3. No more snow
    4. Had to buy petrol, but am now getting almost 260 miles to a tank rather than the 200 I used to before I started to drive sensibly
    5. Three days without nibbling between meals and not really missing it. What inspired me to really look at myself was someone saying that Asian men prefer their ladies to be on the large side so I'd be alright there . Not a particularly kind thing to say but it's shaken me into action!

    Night night, sweet dreams
