  • sparrer - great tip about keeping a bit of old carpet in the car:T

    1) No snow here so an easy trip to and from DH's work.
    2) A NSD
    3) Being amazed at DS1's response to 'La belle dame san merci'. I thought he might give a typical 12 yr old's shrug of disinterest but he offered up some very interesting and well thought out information about sirens of the sea who lure fishermen to their death. This is not anything we had talked about together before so I was pleased that he had sought this out for himself.
    4) And another nice moment with one of my sons - this time DS2. It was a simple moment where we stood together warming our bums against the radiator but then he just reached up to hold my hand and we stood there in companionable silence. Priceless moment :D
    5) Ordered a book about crochet and knitted flowers from the library. Looking forward to receiving it.

Keep warm and safe everyone :)

    e :)

Must pop over to our local carpet shop. They've got a whole pile of "sample" squares about one metre square for £1 each which would be ideal for helping to get wheels moving when stranded in snow. The only thing which puzzles me - if you're on your own when this happens and you get going again, how do you pick your carpets up again, as the moment you stop, you find yourself back again in the same stranded dilemma? (Back to the carpet shop for more sample squares I suppose?)
  • Evening all :) Hope everyone is ok and keeping warm

    My 5 for today:

    1. The excitement on the kid's faces this morning when they woke up to proper snow

    2. Managing to get to Asda to get everything i need for the week, already had cupboard & freezer stuff so mainly fresh - i feel so much better now lol!

    3. Childish pleasure of playing Playdoh with DS this afternoon :D Love, love, love the smell of it! I made a snowman :) lol

    4. Chicken Casserole, mash and veggies for tea, proper winter warmer.

    5. Just been up to the attic to dig out the kid's wooden advent calendars and have filled them with little chocolate coins ready for the morning :j

 Hi everyone, hope you are all safe and well...rightio, pleasures...

    1. Spending a few hours baking this afternoon.

    2. Discovering that i can play CD's on my DVD player. ..DD 'borrowed' my CD player for her room and somehow broke it, so i will still be able to listen to Christmas carols etc through my DVD player (the DVD/video player was given to me by my uncle a couple of weeks ago as he brought himself an all singing and dancing version).

    3. Finding the fabric Advent Calendar and hanging it up ready for tomorrow. The past few years i have brought the chocolate advent calendars, but even the ones that cost a lot seem to taste like 'dog chocolate' (when i was little i used to knick the dogs choc drop treats, so i know these things LOL!). Yesterday we brought some twilight mints on BOGOF -£1.99 and a bag of gold coins for 99p. So less than £3 and the choc advent calendar were £3 each so i'm really pleased.

    4. Made split green pea curry for tea which we had with brown rice. DD balked at eating 'green food'. I asked her if she would like to cook our evening meals from now on. Nuff said.

    5. Got my dog curled up beside me, snoring...i'm listening to Andrea Bocelli via my dvd player, the washer is cleaning a load of laundry for me in the kitchen and i'm cosy and warm.

    Evening all.

Another quick one from me, I'm afraid, as I'm not feeling particularly sparkly today - I've got a horrible feeling I've caught a bug of some sort. :(

    Today's pleasures.

    1) Snow. :D Not enough to settle for more than 10 minutes, but still snow. :D

    2) A colleague at work commenting that my HM lunch always looks and smells much nicer than his shop bought lunch.

    3) Shortly after lunch I decided to take the hint from several of my colleagues saying that I didn't look well and came home, where I could sit and watch falling snow without feeling guilty that I should be doing something more constructive.

    4) Made a chicken, bacon and cider casserole for tomorrow night's dinner, as I was meant to be going out and wouldn't have time to cook. It will still be nice even though the evening out has now been cancelled.

    5) I'm going to go and watch an episode of QI on iplayer, then have an early night and hope I feel brighter in the morning.
Back after a very long break!

    Evening

Hope everyone is staying safe and warm in this weather.

    Pleasures for today:
    1. Mad day at work with no time to even eat my lunch so a NSD
    2. Managing to talk round a really difficult person I was dealing with at work so even when things didn't go as planned he was fine about it.
    3. Walked to work this morning as had missed the bus and better than standing around waiting for the next one. I got a lift home as well so no public transport for me today
    4. Easy but tasty dinner of chicken and bacon pasta made with RTC chicken and bacon so a bargain as well.
    5. Being lovely and warm indoors and knowing don't need to go anywhere

OH has an eye infection at the moment so hoping he will feel better tomorrow as it looks so sore:eek:

Hugs to all who need them

Yummy, I love lemon curd but haven't had it in about 20 years!! Must remedy that at some point :)

    1. Snow :( Okay, not really a pleasure as for the past 2 days I've been pleased it hasn't snowed, but the pleasure is that I girded my loins and managed to walk DD to and from school today without falling over on icy patches :)

    2. Worked from home as I didn't want to drive in, no urgent need for me to be there when I can log on here :):) Hoping for another day like that tomorrow....

    3. Managed to get a same-day appointment from friendly double-glazing company to measure up for a new back door as my wooden one is horribly drafty and I'm being helped out for my Christmas present, yippee!!! We have to go past the back door to get to the bathroom and I always forget in summer how horrible it is in winter.....!!

    4. DD's in my bed again, wonder how long before I'm not classing that as a pleasure!

    5. Have got a lovely task of wrapping up all her little goodies for her advent calendar, she'll have a mixture of Christmas crackers, boxes of raisins, freebie lego toys from the Mirror offer a couple of years ago, hair bands etc etc, all free or v. cheap. Each day she'll open the calendar and then take out a present of the relevant shape from the accompanying bag of goodies :):)

    6. Payday today and so the bank is happy!

    7. Unexpected refund for a panto ticket, as I'm going in an official capacity, I don't have to pay to go with DD and a load of other girlies in the new year. Yay! I was happy to pay as I love panto, but even happier to have the money back in my purse :):)

    8. My evening out that I wasn't 100% looking forward to in this weather had to be cancelled due to my babysitter's son being sick as a dog. Hope he gets better quickly, there's a nasty bug or two around at the moment :( But, it meant that I could stay in the warm without feeling guilty at not being with the others!

    9. Made scrummy veggie stew thing for dinner using up bottom of the fridge veggies and it's lovely, shame DD turned her nose up at it...

    10. DD is going to be singing with her school junior choir at various different events over the next week or so and I'm hoping to be a chaperone for at least one of them :) So proud of my baby girl!

    11. Another nice chat with my mummy this morning, working from home has definite advantages!
  • Evening all!
Hope everyone has had a good day and no ones has had any slips or tumbles on the ice!

CCP -Hope you feel better soon!
Marmiterulesok - That sounds lovely! I may have to make some, havent had lemon curd in ages!
Caterina - I'm sure work will get better, its just one of those things I guess. I just hate people being treated unfairly and that seems to be whats happenng :(

    Mine for today are............

    1. Leaving work early as the busses home were all late and the trains were getting cancelled. Scotland is terrible at the moment.

    2. Getting a pack of 6 microfibre cloths for £1 in Primark! Yay

    3. Nice pork chops for tea with a homemade oriental sauce. Lovely!

    4. Being put in charge of the Christmas eve carol singing!

    4. Listening to Christmas music on the train to work and just watching the snowy fields go by.

    5. Just going to curl up with DH and have a cup of cocoa!

Hope everyone has a nice evening!

Glad we are all feeling the pleasure and appreciation of SNUG.

1.I anticipated this on rtn from Charity this evening, where it has been bitterly cold[cavernous former car showroom, with back open for truck and public loading/offloading.] I became so cold I could not hold pen to write receipts for furniture sold.
2.The moment of entering warmth here, shutting door, day done - so good.
3.Old-fashioned 'nursery mince' and banana cake really went down well today.
    4. Looking forward to a marvellous book which showed up today - The Surrealists - which I suspect has become mine[as only too, too many do]
    5. I could well check in on an auction next week, having spotted a poss. sleeper online just now...on verra.

Still surprised that I wasn't awake till 7h-ish:eek::eek::eek:[hours late!!!] this a.m. and still managed baking, although I took the white choc/cinnamon cream frosting over in separate bowl while cake cooled en route.

Yes sparrer, excellent tip re:carpet, had forgotten, although always have folding shovel[which I LURVE]and complete 'just in case' abode on wheels set-up.

I can't leave only 5 as my 'usual 5' and a very definite.........

    Evening all -

it has to be a flying visit today... I know it early fo most of you on here but I need to get some sleep...

    1) PAY DAY!!!!! I have been very overdrawn this month so it's such a relief.

    2) Annual bonus paid into my account as well!!!

    3) Coffee with my dear friend (the one that is baby obsessed - we managed to keep the baby talk to a bare minimum)

    4) We won two awards last night at an industry awards dinner. Whoop!!! I got to go up to collect the second one which was rather exciting.

    5) The Chief Exec and my big boss kept buying bottles of champagne for us. I had to smile at the chief exec swigging champagne straight from the bottle.

    6) No hangover from the copious amoounts of champagne.

    Night all...

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
