5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2
Comments
-
Hi all,
1. A light dusting of snow making everything look pretty but melting fairly quickly into mid morning
2. A lift to work from OH, saves hanging around at bus stops.
3. Finished a bead bracelet and have lots of beads to start the next one.
4. Finding a voucher for the dinner OH has promised to take us all out for- no point him spending extra money if he doesn't have to
5. Going for a walk at lunch (to buy socks) and it being lovely with the light snow falling and then melting when it hit the ground.
6. Getting a lift home.
7. Edited to add.... walking round M&S seeing lots of nice jumpers and coats things but only buying the socks and gloves I had planned forSaving myself for charity shopping spree when I have time off
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
For today (day off):
1 Went to my local charity shop, looking for curtains.Didn't have any but I bought one pure wool and one cashmere jumper and one mohair and one alpaca (I think) scarf for peanuts.
2 Went for a run in the park.I hasten to add that the paths had been cleared of snow.Very bracing, but ideal for running-the cold, that is.You heat up enough but don't overheat.
3 The hot shower I had after the run.
4 And the big bowl of HM soup.
5 Only two more working days til my week's holiday.
It's been snowing here now since late afternoon. It's going to be a long journey to work tomorrow...
Ampersand 'Women As Explained....'is hilarious!
Katholicos split green bean curry sounds nice.Any chance of sharing the recipe?
CCP hope you feel better in the morning.
Introuble28,Patchwork Quilt and Kittikins You're right,HM lemon curd is delicious.I'll have to make some soon.
Good night and take care in the snow x0 -
Caterina the video was so sweet. I've put it on my fb page as I know DGD2 will love it. What a good way to start your new volunteering job, meetings and nibbles
Primrose I'd just leave the carpet behind, as you say the little sample squares only cost about a £1 which is better than sitting in the snow freezing until someone eventually comes along who has a spare piece of carpet to put under your tyres
CCP hope the 'bug' doesn't turn into anything horrible, get well now. Good idea to take the afteroon off and have a little you time
Kittikins your DD's advent calendar sounds lovely, as do all the ones mentioned here. I've always bought them for the DGC, it's become a tradition and even the older ones still look forward to it
ampersand what a good idea a folding shovel is, I've never heard of that before. I have two garden spades (one bought by mistake, I intended to get a fork. It's an age thing) so one is in the car. We're unlikely to get the amount of snow they have further north, but you never know..
marmite well done on your cs purchases, sounds like you got some super bargains there
1. nsd
2. dare I say it, the snow has almost all gone
3. Postie brought me a full sized sample of handwash to trial, it's almond and silk and smells really delish, not that I knew silk had a smell
4. chicken casserole and mash for dinner, and the dog had some on his dinner too. His disappeared long before mine did
5. Had yet another invitation to Christmas, the fifth, now I'm really in a quandary!
Night night, sleep tight

Returning from kitchen just now with refilled cup and hwb, thought to self 'Already 5...'so decided to post these quick morning things:
1.Knowing I've woken to a no-gym/no committments morning, therefore extra snuggle time, in bed with reading, listening to French radio morning. Lovely. Hearing more snow stuff on France-Inter - it does lift me so, just to hear and feel near.
2.Refilled hwb. - nothing like it.
3.'The Birthday', painting by Dorothea Tanning[wife of Max Ernst]just found in the Tim Martin's book 'Simply Surrealists', referred to yesterday. Well-known I'm sure, but new to me, as is she. See here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorothea_Tanning
As you see, I googled - Dorothea is 100, another remarkable woman centenarian. I will be of their number un de ces jours[in fact I know on precisely which day;)] but need to become remarkable first:D!
How ignorant am I, never having known of her till now?
4.Putting out new soap: I always love doing this. Choosing from the vast stocks in airing cupboard[long ago learnt from mère et grand'mère] - hardens, ages like wine, lasts so much longer, lathers better, is better for skin]associated memory of French or other acquisition, removal of wrappers, scenty waft, first lathery use-mmm! Today's choices - lavender[3 years ago,Cogolin vide-grenier] lily of the valley[Church fête].
5. Bread out in snow-lying dark for birds - jay was down early yesterday, peanut gorging again.
sparrer - I think you will LOVE your folding shovel. I'm giving you a virtual one right now - so useful, so nice to feel it's being there. It answers something in me - goodness knows what! Its presence and emergence deeply satisfy. Use mine in mud, at beach[have more than severals bogged self in sand:o, most recently in the Camargue] as well. Also dug Black Pines with A[pest for others, great for us]near Carcassonne one b'day.
Also sparrer, am adding Vegemite to next shopping list - used last in 'nursery mince'. Because I buy it quite often, it never occurs to me that I will run out, but it is taken to France so is not here.
Final also: I, too, have only just removed 2 further spades from car, behind drivers' seat. Somehow always buy any goodies I see at carboots and these were in Fareham months ago, stayed there until last week.

Hi all
I am at home because the weather disrupted transport to such point that I did not manage to get to work (trains cancelled, buses so crowded that it would have taken me hours). Ahhhh, watch my heart break (NOT);)!
Marmite: Panettone with lemoncurd is not very Italian but sounds delicious all the same! Well done on your run in the snow!
Patchwork Quilt, good that you could get your day off work (it is lovely when it happens, isn't it?)
Blimus, how lovely and interesting that your DS talked about sirens etc. Sometimes our children amaze us with their depth of thought.
Primrose, I suppose that if you manage to get the car started using the old carpet piece you don't want to stop and retrieve it - so you need to go and get another one (there is plenty of carpet to be found in skips too, I use that to cover my allotment).
Lilmisskitkat, I can imagine how lovely it must have been foryou to see the joy in your children's faces at the sight of snow!
Katholicos, you really conveyed a sense of contentment there, describing how having done all you needed to do you relaxed with your dear pet sleeping near you!
CCP I hope the bug goes away and that you feel better. Very kind (and rightly done) of your colleagues to encourage you to go home and look after yourself.
Tealady, well done on talking successfully to the difficult person, it sounds like you have very good customer care skills, a rare skill these days! Hope your OH's eye gets better soon.
Kittikins, glad you could work from home in this bad weather and so had an opportunity to spend time with your DD and talk with your mum!
Introuble28, being in charge of Christmas Eve carol singing sounds like a very important role, hope you have fun (and get remunerated by getting lots of mince pies and hot toddies!).
Ampersand, up early? But what is early for you if you bemoan that 7am is late:eek:? Thanks for the very funny link to women explained by engineers, I sent it to my friend (woman, engineer) and my DH (man, engineer), now waiting for their comments hehee.
Ladyhawk, congratulations on winning the awards at work! It sounds like your organisation is going from success to success, good for them and for you who work in it!
Newlywed, well done on resisting the temptation to buy at M&S and save your spending spree for the charity shopping spree!
Sparrer, glad you liked the video, I used it once as a Christmas e-greeting at my old workplace and everybody loved it!
See you all later for pleasures report xFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Evening all.
Thank you very much for your kind thoughts - I'm pleased to say I am feeling a bit brighter today.
My pleasures for today:
1) Snow.A proper amount, too, but all melted by the time I left work so it didn't go nasty and slippery to drive on.
2) The squeals from the children next door when they woke up to find it had snowed - I could hear them through a solid brick wall! :rotfl:
3) Knowing I've got enough in that, if we do get the 10cm of snow that's been mentioned for tonight, I'll be OK and not have to go out in it.
4) Refound a bag of cooking apples I got in my fruit and veg delivery several weeks ago, which I put to one side then forgot about.I managed to salvage all except one, which had gone rotten inside.
5) Nice, warm chicken casserole for dinner tonight, even if it is a bit saltier than I would have liked (I assume it's the fault of the bacon as I didn't add any extra salt while I was cooking).
Have a lovely evening, all, and stay safe in the white stuff!Back after a very long break!0 -
Hi all
Here are my pleasures:
1 - Leisurely day, unexpectedly as I was meant to be in work (but transport paralised so no work!).
2 - Big bread making session, got 12 seeded rolls, 3 large tin loaves and 4 small ones, should be enough for a week hopefully - check this out! http://www.flickr.com/photos/zazapics/5224608184/
3 - While I was waiting for dough to rise I had a nice nap on the sofa.
4 - DH came back home early because he was on a course
5 - Long chat with my sister on facebook.
Have a great evening all! xFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hi all, hope everyone is cosy warm inside somewhere.
here's mine:
1. Getting a lift to work.
2. Going for a walk in the snow at lunch and buying a lovely new hat to keep me warm
3. Lots of people bunking off work early to get trains home so it went nice and quiet.
4. Work mates checking I can get home ok (my bus was still running).
5. Someone had kindly gritted the steps up to our blocks of flats - much appreciated as it wasn't done last year. So a bus ride and a much less slippy journey back to my front door
6. Being cosy and warm inside - even if the prepay meter is gobbling up the money
7. Not needing anything much from the shops other than milk and bread, so no worries over food even if the weather gets worse.
8. No need to get our car out of our icy road for a few days now so it can sit safely where it is whilst we walk and bus.
9. Even though I haven't been able to afford skiing in the last 5 years, I still have the socks, gloves etc so don't mind the snowworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Newlywed - how nice of someone to do the gritting for you, very lovely of them
Wow Caterina, can I come over for sandwiches please? Your bread is making my mouth water, yum yum!!
CCP, very glad things are looking up for you today, long may that rise continue!
Mine for today....
1. Walked DD up to school and someone else brought her back again
2. Managed to get a few bits in the village shop
3. Didn't fall over in the much deeper snow and ice
4. Had a lovely chat with someone who has hiking poles and on her recommendation have bought myself a pair v.cheapy from ebay - and have just had an email to say they've been despatched. Yippee!!
5. DD's last Christmas present arrived courtesy of the postman this morning, so if the weather continues like this, we will stay home with smiley faces on the big day.
6. Have had a totally carp day of work, with people calling/emailing me all day long to demand stupid things, undermining me, getting on my nerves in such a way that I just hit the table in despair at the latest horrible thing (and now my fingers are tingling!!) but for once I have stood up for myself a bit and have just sent the main source of irritation an email to inform her that I have been online with a couple of breaks since 7am this morning and I am logging off now as I am tired. I.e.GO AWAY!!
The pleasures are double- firstly that I have politely let her know that enough is enough and haven't had to confront her in any way.....and secondly, that I feel much better for typing this out!
7. Another nice chat with mother. She's stuck at home as well so we could both work on our computers and natter at the same time (don't tell my nasty boss, lol)
8. DD and I went over to a neighbour's for chat/dinner/well-deserved glass of wine this evening.
9. Am planning on making myself a nice dinner using the very few veggies and some spices DD doesn't like that I have lurking in the fridge,as I can cook for 1 tonight, nomnom0 -
Evening all
Caterina - Wow! All your bread looks lovelyWish i could make bread but we dont have a BM and i can't do the kneading, DH will make it for us once in a while.
Hope everyone is keeping safe and warm.
1. DD & DS waking up excited about it snowing and that they had their 1st door on the advent calendars to open. DS was thrilled with his "Choclit Noin" in his advent train lol
2. Snuggling up with DS under a blanket, watching the snow and eating hm biscuits.
3. Going out to play in the snow when DD got home from school, got a few nice photos of the kids which i will print and slip into xmas cards for family/friends.
4. Nice easy tea of egg, chips and beans
5. DH braved the snow and has gone to the quiz night at our local with his brother, both littlies asleep and i'm snuggled up under my blanket about to watch Castle then Silent Witness in peace - lovely
Take care all
