    My five for yesterday

    1. Lovely walk in the snow. Went part way with DH as he was walking to work and went as far as main road with him - 11/2 miles and then walked back on fields - dragging my dog most of the way back as she doesn't like DH continuing in a different direction to her.

    2. Another walk later in day with DS2 and we were throwing snowballs and making snow angels.

    3. Coming home to a warm house.

    4. Making bread.

    5. A NSD

    6. Drinking hot chocolate.

    7. Someone giving DH husband a lift home. He saw DH walking and stopped and offered and made it down our road in his 4x4.
  • Good morning all. Sorry I've been missing the last couple of days. Just been exhausted from driving all day in this snowy weather! Glad everyone seems ok and is keeping warm and well. All well here except I think I'm starting with a cold. My recent five,
    1. Managing to do my rounds and get home again in one piece.
    2. Text messages from friends asking if I'm ok and to drive carefully. Nice to know people care.
    3. Warm mince pies!
    4. Looking smart for work but knowing I have my ski socks and thermals on underneath. Cosy.
    5. My dog in her red woolly jumper.
    Love to all. X

Morning all - writing this from 'not at Gym' and doesn't it feel good!

    1. Reading sparrer and Vegemite, Correct Uses Of....as I always loathed the stuff, when I first took vegemite on toast into A. lovingly prepped, I now know he nobly downed it, far too thick. I have had much instruction since on exact quantities/proprtion to butter, T-H-I-N-L-Y, VAAAIRY thinly spreading to edge of crusts etc.etc.
    2. Realising in middle of silly clocks that I hadn't switched on for start of cricket. Did so. Amazing day's play, ending as I sorted brekkers in unlit kitchen[it's so much better looking out at everything in that sort of light which always brings Yeats' perfect wording to mind]
    2. Anticipating flushing toilet today after a fortnight now of not[and some years of it never having worked satisfactorily]. . .hope so, it's a lot of water used each time otherwise.
    3. Hair this morning looks much better than at College Salon yesterday.
    4. Wonderful find to share out from Mr T last night - twin packs[600gms total]of excellent thick cut back bacon - reduced to £1.05! Thinking of bacon sarnies at Charity Showroom tomorrow - and if last Tuesday was anything to go by, we'll need them. Will do it in m/w as A. showed me - it's just such a good unmessy, unspitty way to do it, with fats absorbed by the kitchen towel in which it sits. Tastes beautiful.
    5. Crikey, 8.10 already...off to mini-zap pain au choc and almond croissant and black tea[yes, yes, know I shouldn't, but Reduced Mr T Finest sort of doesn't count....does it? Didn't hear you .....LOUDER please, DOES IT?
    No?
    Bon.

Happy Friday to all for whom it ends a that-sort-of week.

sparrer, wasn't sure whether or not to comment on you having 'lost the destructions'. It's entirely wonderful on every level, whether or not typo/slip/intentional/Freudian/wish factor - I'll have it, too, please:T:D. Love it

What a pants day yesterday was! More snow, had to leave school early (I was working there anyway), MrN and co. took 3 hours to get home (6 miles...), my car got stuck on the hill up to home and, 2 hours later when I went back to try and dig it out, the door had frozen shut and I snapped the door handle off! Oh yes, then the power went off at 7.30pm, coming back on at 2.30am which woke me up as I had left my bedroom light on.

    Grrrr!

Will try to think of 5 for yesterday nonetheless.

    1) Worked at school which went OK. Saw smaller son practising for his Christmas concert.

    2) Almost on top of housework.

    3) Stove going full pelt, esp as no electricity all evening so I had 2 saucepans of water warming on the top for washing/hot water bottle.

    4) MrN came round. We are both stressed to death but making a cup of tea late at night, pitch dark (no street lights here and no power) with the little primus was a challenge. :-)

    5) Boys reasonably happy despite the chaos around them. Very weird to only have a third as many boys for tea as I normally have yesterday - 4 of them stuck in the snow. :-(

    1. Had to give a social event a miss because of icy roads but thankful I no longer have a motorway commute to battle in to work.
    2. Getting organised with the address labels for our Christmas cards - saves an awful lot of work.
3 Home made tomato soup from the freezer for lunch - a welcome reminder of our summer tomato crop.
    4. Lie-in this morning - such a luxury!
    5. Garden resembles the zoo at feeding time - so many squirrels and birds all stuffing their little bellies. There's not an inch of snow covered lawn that isn't covered with tiny footprints of one kind or another.

    Hi all

Having a really struggly day today, after yet another argument with DH (who does not feel D at all to me at the moment). Will spare you the horrid details but it is same old, same old... it leaves me with such a depression inside and a sense of emptiness. I feel exhausted.

However, I am going to try and find pleasures today, as it is a surefire way to protect myself against the emptiness.

    Here they are:

1 - Free tickets to the Taste of Christmas show, went with another OS friend and we had a good time, lots of nice tastings and a few freebies (although not as many as we would expect from a show that normally charges £22 entry ticket!).

2 - At the show I met the man who sells Italian seeds (Seeds of Italy), he recognised me and we had a nice little chat in Italian about my allotment - I grow almost only plants from his seeds! I bought his cookery book and he signed it for me, and threw in a free packet of seeds, I chose Purple Globe Artichoke - now I have something to look forward to planting in spring!

3 - Was going to go to an arts and crafts show but decided to come home instead as I just want to be cosy and hibernate with a cup of tea (which I shall brew in a minute).

4 - On my way home I stopped in Waitrose and found roses reduced quite dramatically, so I bought myself two bunches, one for the lounge and one for the bedroom.

5 - Saw on facebook that my sister got the baking bug, she baked two bread loaves, after the soda bread that she baked yesterday. Good to have passed the bug on!

Have a good evening all x
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Afternoon all.

I thought I'd get in early with my pleasures today, as I've got five already:

    1) Got the bus to work, which meant I could admire the snowy city without worrying about sliding off the road. (Although, to be fair, the main roads at least aren't too bad - the council has actually worked at clearing some of the snow and ice this time, which they didn't do at all when it last snowed.)

    2) Spicy butternut squash soup for lunch. It's actually better for a night in the fridge - it's much tastier than it was yesterday.

    3) A colleague bought in a tin of HM banana and raisin fairy cakes to share around the few people who had made it in to the office - very nice they were too! :)

    4) The office closed early because of the snow, so I was home by quarter to four. :D

    5) The setting sun turning the snow in the park pink.

    6) Ordered my new jumper (actually two new jumpers) using my Mr T vouchers - two jumpers for £1, plus delivery charge, seems a bit of a bargain to me. :money:

    7) Calzone for dinner tonight, stuffed with my favourite courgette / bacon / soft cheese mix. It's taken me 30 years, but I've finally found a way of cooking courgettes that I actually like! :j
    *************************
Caterina and Frith - I'm sorry you've had bad days. Hugs to you both.

ampersand - you're quite right that RTC pain au choc and suchlike are healthier than the full price version - I reckon the calorie count is reduced by the same amount as the price. (That's my excuse, anyway. :o)

beachbaby - I'm glad you're OK and managing to cope OK with the snowy conditions. Please continue being careful!

sparrer - I'm sorry to hear you've got a chest infection. Get well now! ;)

carrieparkinson - WD on finding the Mr T vouchers - they've done this offer at a nice time of year. WD on getting a discount on your dad's present, too. :money:

Have a nice evening, all, and stay safe! smiley-gen026.gif

Back after a very long break!
  • frith and Caterina-sorry you are both having such a rubbish day :(

Snowed in here today and have caught DS2's cold so feel like I may struggle finding five today.

    1) A NSD as we couldn't get out.
    2) Luckily it is DH's day off so didn't need to worry about getting him to work.
    3) Finished off a book that I'd had on the go for far too long.
    4) Made some Focaccia from a kit I'd got from AF. It was very, very nice. Has it with DH's famed cheesy spaghetti.
    5) A good friend has very skillfully started up a proof-reading and copy-eaditing business (quite hard work to get out here in the sticks - I used to do it) and has already got some work. So I'm very pleased for her as she was financially at her wits end.

Okay - that wasn't so hard after all! Just hoping the snow may clear soon.

1 First day of my holiday.

2 A numpty moment:had a problem with my computer, which turned out to be embarrassingly simple to sort out. Thanks to the man in the computer shop who didn't charge me anything:o.

3 A friend came round for lunch, hadn't seen her for ages.It was nice to catch up.High praise also for the soda scones I made.

4 The wee cat, whose favourite place to sleep is under the blanket on my lap.

    Evening all,

hope you are all snuggly warm and the poorlies are feeling better.

    1) Getting home this evening to find that the man who was supposed to come round tomorrow to remove my hedge can round today while I was at work.

    2) Remembered to renew my library books this evening. I have been meaning to do this for a few days but had no idea when they were due back. They were due back today so that was a nice surprise.

    3) NSD

    4) The Chief Exec was in our office today and I popped down to chat to our faciities manager about improving our electricity consumption. There were some really yummy danishes left over from the chief execs meeting which I got to sample. I love cinnamon danishes!!

    5) Easy supper of beef stew from the freezer.

Night night all - sleep well

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
