5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Evening all.
Kitchenbunny - hope you feel better soon.
Primrose - your email netwrok is a really good idea - very clever and helpful! :T
newlywed - what a pain to walk all that way and then find the office shut. At least it meant you had a chance to visit your friend, though.
frugalpam - congrats on your first day of freedom. :j
ampersand - I hope you haven't done any damage in your close encounter with the snow and ice. Thanks very much for the reminder about the Mr T vouchers - I went off and sorted mine out as soon as I read your post, which I probably wouldn't have remembered to do if you hadn't mentioned it.
Ladyhawk - that's great news about your colleague. It's good you got out of your training course for today and tomorrow - training courses, like meetings, shouldn't happen on a Friday afternoon imo.
Caterina - that photo of your bread looks absolutely gorgeous. I wished I could reach through the screen and grab a slice!;)
My pleasures for today:
1) Snow. Lots and lots and lots of snow (well, 3 inches or so, which is a lot by Portsmouth standards). :snow_laug
2) I didn't make it into work today: I woke up with a headache, found there were no buses running, and chickened out of driving in so much snow and ice.So I had a nice (if rather guilty) day at home watching the snow falling.
3) Made a batch of spicy butternut squash soup for lunch, with enough for lunch tomorrow and possibly Saturday as well.
4) Discovered that my summer hiking shoes are great for winter, too, as they're really grippy. I felt brave enough to walk down to the seafront to see what the beach looks like covered in snow (answer: white - what else did I expect?), and ended up helping another snow fan back to the road when she found her shoes didn't have enough grip for her to climb down the stairs unaided.
5) NSD.
6) Redeemed my Mr T vouchers, which will be put towards the new fluffy jumper I've been searching for - I've found one on their website which is quite nice, and even nicer for being free.
7) Did I mention it snowed?
Have a lovely evening, all, and stay safe if you're braver than me and venture out into the snow by car.Back after a very long break!0 -

Hi all
Thank you for your kind comments about my bread, I am planning to do this every week now!
Frugalpam congratulations on your freedom! I am still in shackles (see pleasures below) but not long now hopefully!
My pleasures today:
1 - Still snowed in so no work (this is a mixed pleasure as in a way I would have preferred to go in and get over and done with, now I shall have to go in next Friday!).
2 - DH also could not go to the office so he worked from home. He was very busy so we did not interact a lot but at least we had lunch together and it was nice to have him around the house.
3 - I taught my sister (who lives in Spain) how to make soda bread, online, via facebook messages. She went and made it, and loved it! She posted the pic on facebook, too!
4 - A great piece of Shabby-chic achieved today (even if I say so myself): we had a sofa cover that over the years has been almost entirely shredded to pieces by careless teenage feet. Today I took it, cut it in two and patched the worst of the shredding by using backing fabric and then zigzagging all over the pieces to strengthen them. Then I cut up the torn bits at the centre of it, made neat seams and then to finish I side-to-middled it, even managing to match the pattern! Honestly, it looks like new, even if a bit smaller (and the patched bits are now on the sides so almost invisible). I am soooo proud of myself! All the family is really pleased too.
5 - DS is making dinner, veg. shepherd pie, in the oven now so will be ready soon!
Have a good night everybody xFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Evening all,
I am very jealous of all of you that have stepped out of the rat race - even if it is temporarily!
CCP - i like your philosphy on training courses. I have a similar one on meetings... they don't start before 10am, between 12 and 1.30pm or after 4pm!
1) NSD
2) Got up a little later today than normal and was only 15 minutes late for work. since I left at 7.45pm today I don't feel guilty at all!
3) Passing on some of the Preparing for Winter tips to the cleaner at work who has been struggling wit the cold at home. She's really nice... though once you get her started talking it's hard to get her to stop!!
4) No snow again over night... so roads were lovely and clear this morning and this evening. The gritters were out when I was driving home and I nearly had a coronary when I drove past one and it sprayed grit at me!
5) Got an email from one of our ops managers in Scotland thanking us for all the help our suppliers have given her for during the snow. It's rare that we get acknowledged as being anything other than evil supply chain who makes their lives difficult.
Night all.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
eeevnin all
i want stew n dumplings!!!!
nice idea on the group email thingy.sadly it wouldnt work on this estate.. there would be a constant message for drugs or whinges cos giros are late etc and if you posted u were going out 4 supplies u would find your house broken into... such a lovely estate...
nice to see you lot enjoying the snow... sadly here in yorkshire my front garden is a foot deep in ithad to stay home from work yesterday on unpaid leave
as my taxi got cancelled as they stopped running, all public transport was cancelled... managed to get in via a plod onto the main road where the busses were running. i think we're over the worst of the snow now but its forecast -7 overnight tonight. so it'll b icy tmz.
on a lighter note.... my 5
1) ordering dads xmas pressie online from matalan and getting about £10 off it thanks to the discount code stack
2) finding £10.50 of unused clubcard coupons in my account n doubling up n getting the kids some pressies for xmas
3)getting into work only half hour late today
4) being home to put the kids to bed
5) calm day @ work despite oh i cant pay my bill cos its snowing......and i cant get out.. jog on luv. thats what bacs payments and debit cards are for you use them every other month just fine.... pay up or the bar stays ok?

3. Had a nice long bath this evening.
4. Watching Danny Alexander be verbally ripped to shreds on Question Time as i type this.
5. NSD number 2 and ate from the freezer today.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
NSD Challenge: October 0/140 -
a bit al over the place atm but will try to get my head together
ampersand I googled folding shovels, what a clever idea, and what a pity I bought two spades instead of a fork. Your mention of soap reminds me I need get a cube of plain olive oil soap, which I cut into 3 so I have 3 tablets. I only have one left atm. Thank you for the airing cupboard idea, it makes sense. It's a horrific price here and peanuts there but no plans to go in the immediate future . Vegemite is so much nicer than the stronger, 'burn the tongue' English version. Hot toast, lashings of butter and a little Vegemite, makes my mouth water just thinking of it
CCP what a lovely sound the neigbours children must have been, can just imagine their faces when they looked out of the window . Well done on rescuing ther apples, thanks goodness they keep well
Caterina good that you had the day off, and looks like you put it to very good use. All that bread looks delicious, it would keep me going for about 4 weeks
Tealady what a nice surprise the free lunch must have been, snow does have its advantages
Wednesday
1. nsd
2. Visited a friend for coffee, I took some pastries and she gave me a beautiful new flight bag - she took my old one to America and it got completely broken en route so she bought me a beautiful replacement.
3. Made a loaf for the freezer
4. Warmed my wheat lavender bag in the mw, have lost the destructions so left it in for 3 mins on medium heat and it was plenty warm enough. It didn't burst into flames so presume I got it rght.
5. Nice chat on the phone with my India companion, who is going to sort out the visas as I can't make head nor tail of the site
On Thurs I started another chest infection thanks to the cold weather (people with lung diseases dread winter) but fortunately have a scrip in hand so will try to get to the pharmacy in the next day or so.
Please remember all the poorlies and older people in your street,I'm sure a knock on the door to ask after them and see if they need anything would be very welcomed
night night sleep well
S x0
