Hi again all
CCP we must be shopping for veg with the same company! The mini-mince pie is a lovely gift and delicious too! Re. my last 2 days at work, nice nice nice, can't wait!:j
Blimus, I googled Gael G.B. and quite honestly he is a bit too young and pretty for me - I shall keep lusting over the dark Peter I think!;)
Ampersand, I did not even know who Giles was before I watched this series started, so I have absolutely no idea about his dad - but I take your word!:)
Patchwork Quilt, way to go re. red knickers, if that makes you feel good, why not?
Sparrer, my last AF delivery is going to be even more like Christmas as it contains 4 panettone cakes (for gifts, not all for me!).
Niksyg congratulations re. putting an offer on your home! :T
Frugalpam, well done on not smoking, the longer it goes the easier it gets! And re. voluntary redundancy, it is scary now but it will feel better once you are out. If that's what you want, I hope you find another job soon, but if you want to take time off, that is a good move, too! I am sure you will enjoy some free time to look after yourself and take things slowly!:D
Hugs to all who need them and good wishes for wellness and happiness all around!
Here are my pleasures for today:
1 - The first one I already posted, only 2 days to go now till I am no longer working!
2 - I bought a cake for myself and one for one of the directors at work, then did not want any money for it and told him it was my parting gift. Then discovered that he really wanted my cake so I split his and mine in the middle and we had half and half each!
3 - I had enough to keep me fairly busy today so the day went quickly.
4 - Went to meeting with my friend re. doing some cooking for a woman and got the job (job sharing with my friend, I shall do one evening a week and cover for her when she has babies coming - she is a doula). This means a bit of pocket money for my own use.
5 - Chinese meal with my friend after the meeting, I bought it for her to thank her for the introduction to this job. We had a really good relaxing time catching up and eating nice food.
Good night everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hello, not posted on this thread for a while - had a few struggles recently and feel the need to start counting my blessings again to remind myself that things could be a hell of a lot worse
1. DH got the kids up and ready and to school/nursery so i had an extra couple of hours in bed
2. DH had the day off and we went into Manchester looking for a new suit for him, had lunch at La Tasca (tapas) - yummy!
3. Managed to get a couple of loads of washing done, struggling to keep up with it in this weather with no dryer but hey-ho
4. Lazy tea of corned beef hash from the freezer
5. Spent a lovely hour with DD making birthday cards for my dad for tomorrow, crafting relaxes me!
Take care all

 Hi all, here are my 5 for today:
1. Collecting my ebay win: an almost new desk for DD which i won for £5.50
2. Getting an email from Thompson and Morgan - subscribe to their online newsletter and they send you e-vouchers every so often. Today I received a £10 e-voucher with no minimum spend, so ordered some seeds :-)
3. This next one isn't a pleasure, it's more of a 'relief' that the tax credit office have finally sorted it out. I received a letter asking for payment of nearly £400 that they have overpaid. I don't have any surplus money whatsoever so will have to negotiate with them about paying them back and hope they will be reasonable. It isn't my fault i was overpaid anyway, i notified them when DD left college!
4. Helped DD19 this evening in sorting out her room, but gave her a final warning that if it gets in that state again she can start looking for somewhere else to call home!
5. Did a few errands for my folks, so glad they were able to stay nice and cosy in their home...flipping freezing out there today!!
Hope you all have an enjoyable weekendGrocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
NSD Challenge: October 0/140 -
Ampersand I totally agree about the heating, mine is now on and to salve my conscience I'm using the 'any idiot can be cold' line. Freddie Mercury, what can I say but :A
(((Kitchenbunny))) hope this helps a little bit. Have a good weekend and be kind to yourself
Frith you'll have muscles like Mr Universe by the time you've finished moving the bricks, sounds like you're going for the whole cottage. Re ex's sol, what a pr@t! But as you say par for the course, at least you know never to believe a word he says
RAS well done on finding another route for funds, seems it's certainly benefitting the people it's meant for
Ladyhawk rotten luck that the wrong person got picked, but you know you're best as I'm sure your colleagues do, so that's what matters. Congrats on getting the little jars, good for gifts of your delish jam - when you've finished the existing contents
GingerSnap the poor hen, I'm almost shivering thinking of her. Hope she starts to grow her new feathers soon
Tealady well done on saving some pennies and spending some calories by beating the bus
Kitchenbunny You deserve star of the day for resisting those burgers, in my house it'd be np. Not 'no problem' but 'not possible'. Mind you if I had a choice I think I'd opt for the Jackie Chan, I have most of his films and love his comic bravado
niksyg Congratulations:T! What wonderful news, yes it is a huge step but you took it succesfully and that's what matters. I remember our first time and feel quite excited for you
CCP please the bosses are letting you have your tree lights, things are austere enough atm without scroogy bosses. Good news you found your earring, especially as it's a favourite
Pam great news on the redundancy, no point in hanging on to something you don't enjoy and causes you unhappiness so a really good move forward for you
Caterina I always buy a panettone, and also get a stollen which I have to hide from myself or they wouldn't last until Chritmas day. Congrats on the job share, something you'll enjoy and give you some pocket money. It's come just at the right time! As they say, one door closes and another one opens...
lilmisskitkat what a lovely DH you have, to give you a lie-in while he sees to the DC. Corned beef hash may sound lazy to you, it sounds delish to me. Hope all is improving for you now after your struggles
katholicos thanks for the tip re T&M newsletter, will sign up for it though I've barely any space left in my pocket handkerchief garden. Having had 3 teens of my own I had to laugh at your No4, sorry. Well done looking after your folks, they'll be grateful they didn't have to brave the cold.
1. No snow here, bitterly cold but beautifully bright sunshine
2. nsd
3. Decided to offer my white lilac on freecycle as I've no space for a pear tree otherwise. And I'll say they have to dig it up, then I won't have quite so much work to do planting the pear
4. Found a visa site which doesn't charge the earth. Some cheeky co's want £30/40 for just helping fill the forms in! This one is approved by the India tourist office and charges £9
5. All pressie shopping done except for the odd stocking fillers, just the card to write now so need make a trip to Superdrug for their discounted stamps.
Night night, sleep tight

5 for yesterday (Friday).
1) Had a letter that my PPI insurance has been refunded so now my debt is £2500! When the ex left (nearly 6 years ago) it was over £30,000...
2) Wrote a letter offering 30% of the debt as a final settlement.
3) Went to Sainsburys.
4) MrN mended my front door lock for me (otherwise the house would have been open to allcomers overnight!)
5) Went to my sister's new house to show the boys.
6) Sister came here for tea as she doesn't have any food yet in the new house so we had spag bol then apple and blackberry crumble.
7) MrN came round later. Went to bed after 2 (again) so look awful and hair is in a quiff at the front!0 -
Afternoon all.
Frith - that's great news about the debt. :j I hope they accept your offer so you can put an end to the whole thing.
lilmisskitkat - I'm sorry to hear you've been having troubles recently. I hope things get better for you soon.
frugalpam - I'm glad you got your voluntary redundancy - I hope you thorouhgly enjoy your escape (I'm sure you will).
I've had a very pleasant day today, despite there being nothing much to it:
1) Lie-in this morning, despite my cat's best efforts to get me up at 5.30.
2) Bacon sarnie for brunch, with some of my HM tomato ketchup that's been maturing for the past couple of months. It's nice but a bit sour, so I must remember to use slightly more sugar than the recipe says next time I make some.
3) Went down to the shops to rescue my lost earring, then had a (rather chilly) mooch round the shops: I'm lucky enough to still have a local high street, so I try to make the most of it.
4) Found that the little, independent furniture shop has an offer of 20% off all sofas. I found one I like so, as long as it will fit through my front door (they'll send someone round to check if you ask), I'll order it next week, for less than I was expecting to pay. :money:
5) Had a nice chat to my sister on the phone. She was very pleased with the birthday present I sent her - a 'voucher' saying that I'll buy for her at one of the old-fashioned sweet shops in the area (the ones that still have everything in jars, which the shop weighs out for you) - and we've tentatively arranged that she and her boyfriend will come to visit the weekend after next. (Which means I must get a move on and buy their Christmas presents before then.)
6) Strained and bottled my HM damson gin, and it's not bad at all, if I do say so myself.
On the downside, there's still not so much as a flake of snow in Portsmouth.
Have a lovely evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Pleasures for today:
1. Shopping trip with DD to Kingston where I let her have the benefit of some vouchers to start her Christmas shopping. One was a £5 off a 20 spend in Lakeland and as my mum wanted something for £20 buying in there DD have the £5. Managed to get some chocolates at £1.99 a box and on 3 for 2. Plus I gave her the £5 Habitat voucher that I received this week, which again she manged to get 4 things with spending just 60p:money:
2. I bought DD one of her presents that was on special and with some vouchers managed to get for £10 rather than the RRP of over £40.
3.Managed to get a seat home on the bus by walking to the bus stop a few minutes away from the shops so got on before the crowds
4. Lovely cup of tea when got home thanks to DD
5. Making Chilli for dinner tonight so looking forward to that with a glass of wine.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Good evening all. I have a house full of teenage girls so I'm going to get my post done now. My pleasures for today,
1. SNOW - I let the dog out at 6.10am this morning to be greeted with a white blanket of the stuff, enough for the kids to play and enjoy, but not so much that the roads are a problem. The perfect amount.
2. Lunch in town with a good friend. Sandwich, salad and a cup of tea for under a fiver.
3. A lovely recipe book from CS for £1.
4. DD2 and friends having a fab time at her birthday tubing party at the ski slope. Lots of squealing.
5. DD2 not minding that the candle on her birthday cake was infact a tealight as I had forgotten to go and buy some cake candles!
Keep wrapped up warm and stay safe. X0 -
Hello, after not posting for many a month, but reading avidly, I thought it high time I rejoin the thread
1. No snow yet near Brighton, yippee!! I like the thought but not the reality of it, had enough of it all last winter. DD is desperate for some though....
2. Went to a localish biodynamic farm and bought our favourite raw milk, it's soooooo good and I'm not usually a fan of milk but love it when we treat ourselves to it
3. Went to localish Steiner school christmas fete and DD made me 2 lovely Christmas presents. I can't wait to "see" them on the big day, she was so excited to get all crafty for meShe also made a present for her grandparents who we'll be with for Christmas.
4. Nice friendly people at the fete. DD doesn't go to the school but I always love going to the fetes/markets as there's interesting unusual crafts/foods and the farm shop is on the way.
5. Was the best mummy ever as I took DD to a pizza establishment using my Mr T vouchers, my last ones *sniff*. I can't think of anyone I'd rather be with though, she's so well-behaved and good company (I know I'm biased.... lol)
6. Came home to discover I had put the heating timer on correctly so the house is snuggly
7. I've got some bread rolls baking now. Yum yum0
