Suddenly feeling very tired and emotional but will aim to do 5 for today (Weds).

    1) Got 100 more bricks towards the house repairs.

    2) Popped to my sister's new house to do the water meter reading then had lunch at mum and dad's.

    3) Smaller son's EBay trousers arrived.

    4) Nice tea (roast gammon).

    5) MrN came round and has just gone. :-)

Bit of a strange day in that ex Mr Frith went to court and was found guilty. I don't know how many of the charges he was found guilty of, possibly all of them. It is too serious for the magistrate to punish him so he will be off to Crown Court on December 17th where the judge can give him a more severe sentence. (i.e more than £5000 fine or longer than 6 months in prison). Don't know how I feel about it all, it just seems like a dream.

Frith well done on the outside clean-up, especially emptying the water butt. I have to do mine because of the sludge in the bottom but no idea how, I'll have to see if I can get a strong fella from somewhere ;). So sorry to hear you've got more emotions to bear, but you have your lovely boys and home, not to mention neighbours, so hopefully their stability will get you through this. (((Hugs)))
CCP, GingerSnap, Ladyhawk, larmy16, sounds like I might just have to have a peek at this Good Life programme next time it's on. I'm always happy to approve 'strangely attractive' views on my screen :D
Primrose what a lovely butcher, I don't know any locally who give bones these days. The exhibition sounds good, the colours this year have been noticably brighter than usual and must make stuning photographs :)
Caterina thank you, the butter beans have just gone in the freezer. It's going to save huge amounts of time and fuel. Congrats on the dental check up :T what a good money saver! Looking forward to a view of the new pink fringe at the next meet
beachbaby so pleased to hear you sound brighter. Wasn't sure if you meant you or the dog who was wrapped up and got face freeze! Belated Happy Birthday to your DD1 :D
CCP chorizo and squash stew is a new one on me, and sounds absolutely yummy. Re the curry, the best I've found is by Lloyd the Grossvoiceman as DGD calls him :o, almost as good as the restaurant ones imho. Had to smile at your phone conversation, sounds like a comedy sketch :D
Ladyhawk, we only met for a few mins but my three words would be warm, smart (in more ways than one) and down-to-earth...alright so that's more than three but sometimes you've have to have a little poetic licence ;). Odd that we never see ourselves as others do, usually tend to think the worst of ourselves, and seldom do two people come up with the same words. It's an interesting exercise. Well done for saying no to something you really didn't want to go to, we all need to be firm about choices from time to time.

    1. Had a pamper morning, shower, hair, hands, feet and lashings of moisturiser all over. Won't be able to shower in the morning a the elec is going off from 7am for 9 hours  in this area so 'they' can put in a supply to the new health centre which is being built 1/4 mile away. Ridiculous time of year to do it . Anyway my morning was lovely and relaxed so they can do what they like tomorrow, I won't be here...
    2. ...spending tomorrow at DD's 9 miles away so got all the bits and pieces I'm taking - laptop, books, Christmas cards, treats for her dogs and the parrot - together this evening
    3. Beef stew for dinner, really yummy and lots left over. Mixed in a handful of the butterbeans before putting it in the fridge.
    4. The chill seems to have gone away so didn't need to cash in the scrip for anti-b's :D
    5. Had a lovely invitation to DS oop norf for Christmas which I accepted of course, then learned that my ex has already accepted same. It's going to be interesting, to say the least

    Night night, sweet dreams

  • Just popping in to say I hope everyone is safe and well if they are in snowy areas. Keep warm and dont drive if you dont have to. Unfortunately, for DD2, we dont have any here just yet. I love it, but with driving for my job I dont want any until the weekend!
    Caterina, your hair sounds great.
CCP, that stew sunds lovely and warming.
Ladyhawk, lucky you with the books and jars.
Frith, hugs to you re Mr Frith.
Sparrer, I did actually mean me, but I think the dog probably got face freeze too. Glad you're feeling better without the antibiotics. I read you're coming up my way at Christmas - Give me a call when it gets too much, I'll have the kettle on!

Keep your hat, scarf and gloves on! X

    Morning

Quick post of pleasures for yesterday:
    1. Walked to work again, having people working in the house is certainly making me get a move on in the mornings
    2. My friend J gave me 2 huge butternut squashes. Did give one to someone else. Make a huge pan of soup last night but as freezer is full and only me at home that will eat it, taking a pot into work today to share.
    3. Good day for freebies received 2 minatures of OH favourite whisky and a £5 habitat gift card
    4. Managed to do another paid for survey so will have another £3 of LV arriving soon. Should have enough now to cover all the christmas extras
    5. Realising that even when we have paid the plumber for our bathroom our savings accounts still look better than they did a year ago.

Hugs to all who need them
  • marmite - did you test your slow-cooker christmas pudding or have yopu successfully made one before? I'm going to try one for the first time this year? How will you keep it till Christmas? Sorry for all the questions!
kitchenbunny - Your caramel machiato latte sounds delish! I would love one of those Tassimo things.
niksyg - how did your second viewing go?
Ladyhawk - good news about your counselling session. And no, you're not a B regarding your friend - I was absolutely ridiculous when I had DS1, couldn't think or talk about anything else. Even my mum was worried that I was too obsessed! I now realise that it's not fair or interesting for other people to hear every minute detail about my kids!
Katholicos - had to chuckle at the image of your dog staring at you from 2 inches away! :rotfl:
Tealady - Great news about your DD's parent's evening report.:T
Gingersnap - well done on your observed lesson going so well :T
Frugalpam - well done on the weight loss. That's a brilliant total loss! :T
Frith - well done on the brick haul! Hugs to you - hope you're feeling a bit better today. (((hugs)))
Caterina - Do you fancy a timeshare with me regarding Peter from the Edwardian Farm? And well done on good teeth and a pink fringe!:rotfl:
Sparrer - Your pamper morning sounds great. You deserve it :)

Hope everyone is snug and warm in this snowy weather. It's not settling here but I do worry about snow since we've moved to a more rural location. Some of the roads become quite bad and it makes me really nervous driving at this time of year.

    Here are mine from yesterday:
    1) Good lessons with the boys.
    2) Made a nice slow cooker curry which was cheap, filling, nutritional and tasty.
    3) Joined Ravelry - there are some amazing patterns. Already made some fingerless gloves for driving last night.
    4) Finished our book on 'Blurb' - can't wait to see what it looks like. I think it's going to be a great gift. Reasonable price too.
    5) Made some of Nigella's sweet and salty chocolate. OMG - it's so unbelievably good. Will make good prezzies!

    Hi all

It definitely seems that I am the only one who would actively push Giles out of bed then - in fact he would not even make it to my front door! I find him highly irritating and not really such a good looker.

Blimus I think that there is a long list of mad women catfighting over poor Peter! Have a look at the Edwardian Farm thread. BTW, yesterday I was sitting in the living room and watching it with DH and I think I really pi**ed him off because every time Peter appeared I was like "PHWOARRRRRR LOOK AT HIM!!!!". DH gave me a look of disdain and said that he really did not understand what I see in him (and just as well LOL). I bickered back that he was just jealous! Wonder if the producers realise what sex bomb they have on their hands? George Clooney eat your heart out!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    4. Made a hearty beef stew in the sc. I didn't read the label on the butter beans in time, it says to soak overnight :(. If I soak them the whole packet then boil them as instructed I'm wondering if I can I freeze them? Just thinking it would save time and fuel

    S x

Yes, you can soak, cook & freeze a whole batch, but after cooking, try to dry freeze them first on a tray if you can and pack in convenient size portions. They then won't stick together and you can grab a handful as you need them. I've found that sometimes freezing them can make the beans break up a little but if they're being put into a soup of stew then it probably doesn't matter much anyway.

Frith I remember way back you mentioning that ex had done a lot of things wrong over the years and had always got away with it because people were frightened of him and would not stand up to him. Well something has caught up with him now.

It may be difficult for the boys; do they know about it?

    Hello all

Here are my pleasures for today:

1 - Porridge with honey and cinnamon for breakfast, with DS and two of his friends who stayed overnight.

2 - The first Approved Food package arrived, lots of pasta and tins of tomato, and toilet rolls too!

3 - Homemade scones, I followed a recipe for a change (usually just chuck things in without weighing) and it is amazing the difference it made, they came really nice!

4 - A friend visited and loved the scones, said that they are much better than the shop-bought ones (and DS agreed!).

5 - My friend, who is also a doula, offered me a bit of job-share with her cooking for someone, we will visit the potential client tomorrow. If it works it means a little job for me for a few weeks!

Have a good evening everybody x

    Evening all.

Brr, it's cold tonight! smiley-sad018.gif There's no snow in Portsmouth (a definite :( for me as I love snow) - I hope everyone currently 'enjoying' the fluffy white stuff's staying safe.

Frith - I'm not surprised you're a bit unsure of your feelings over the fate of the former Mr Frith but, as RAS says, he's clearly deserved what he's got. I imagine it must be difficult, though (I was about to say 'I know it must be difficult', but of course I don't know at all) - hugs to you. smiley-hug005.gif

I've got one decided non-pleasure for today: I gave up my lunchbreak to come home and let in the guy who needed to do the repairs to the fire alarm system for my landlord, only to find I already had the alarm he'd been told to fit so he didn't need to be in my flat after all.

    However:

    1) The fire alarm repair guy (boy, really - he can't have been more than 19) was so sweet and apologetic when he found he'd wasted my lunch hour for nothing - not that it was his fault, of course.

    2) I've turned the central heating up a notch tonight, so I'm actually warm typing this, for the first time in several days (while wearing three layers of clothes, of course - this is an OS thread!).

    3) Putting on the fluffy socks my grandmother bought me last Christmas, so I've got warm toes, too. :)

    4) Received my competition win book. :j I've rationed myself to a quick flick through and it looks great, but I'm saving the rest so I've got something to read if the next week or so is as snowy as they're threatening. (I know it is elsewhere in the country, but Portsmouth almost never gets snow, no matter how bad it is elsewhere.)

    5) Got a free mini mince pie in my veg box today, which will go beautifully with the spiced stewed plums which I'm currently cooking.

    6) I was expecting a free bottle of EVOO with my veg box, too, but it didn't turn up. I phoned to ask and it turns out I haven't quite met the terms and conditions of the offer - but they're a nice company and have accepted that the T&Cs weren't very clear, so they're going to give me my freebie next week anyway. :T

    7) Edwardian Farm tonight, as I couldn't get it on iPlayer last night (and sorry, Caterina, but I can't see the phwoar factor of Peter - that one's all yours! ;))

    Have a lovely, not-too-snowy evening, everyone. :snow_grin
Back after a very long break!
