Busy day here but got loads done!

    5 for today (Monday).

    1) Went to Sainsburys with no children (always good!) and got some bagels, smoked salmon and guacomole (spelling?) for my lunch, amongst many other things.

    2) Picked up MrN's son after his mock GCSE and dropped him off again before his afternoon exam.

    3) Went to local DIY place (lovely and family run) and got shelves cut for the cupboards in my sister's new house kitchen.

    4) Made 2 trays of fairy cakes.

    5) Made a roast for tea.

    6) Had a chat with my friend over Facebook.

    7) Nice builder phoned with a good quote (not the lowest but his ideas were the best) so is starting on FRIDAY! I'll have to take some pictures of before and after.

    8) MrN came round and has just gone. :-)

    So, not a bad day!

P.S Best of luck, Gingersnap! My sister is a high school teacher, btw.

Frith your tea sounds delish, I love sausages and cous cous so don't think that's bad at all :). Pleased you found a builder you feel comfortable with, and great that he can start so soon
ampersand pleased to hear you found your earring, it sounds very pretty :D
Patchwork thank you for the recipe, I can see lots of variations being tried out over the next few weeks. Hope you feel better sooner than soon :)
Caterina well done on going back to keep fit and good news that you'll be joining in the Chrissie celebration. Congrats on the NPower windfall, I'm sure you'll put it to good use ;)
CCP yes I was grateful for the offer, I only have 3 respectable jumpers which I wear in rotation and I should think people are fed up with seeing them now! The beef stew sounds lovely, I think they're always better the next day :)
Kitchebunny hope you feel better, well done for doing all that work when you're not feeling up to par :)
ott09 love the stories about making holiday plans, and joining the gym. Re giving your friend a lift, sometimes you have to be a little selfish for your own sanity, especially if things aren't right between you and your friend. Hopefully the small breathing space is al you need to get back on an even keel together
beachbaby :Ton buying the car, a great stride in your adventure of becoming an independent woman!
Blimus I remember one of the Norwich librarians for her helpfulness in finding some info on the Walpoles, where my fathers family originated. Good luck at the fishy pedicure place, I think I'd give that a miss in case someone has slipped in a pirhana
mollie sounds like you had a lovely 'me' day. Good that the grandparents have the little one, she'll really benefit from spening her time with other people:)
Ladyhawk now I understand about the table :). I like your No5, it doesn't make the dark evenings feel quite so bad
Ginger Snap Good luck for tomorrow! I'm sure it'll be fine :). What a little love you DS telling you he loves you, and what excellent news your OH has three days work. Long may it last :D
katholicos the macaroni cheese and veggie thing sound lovely, warming and wholesome. Good for you in finding a less expensive way of buying the turkey, hope your DM is impressed :)
dundeedoll, woohoo, didn't you do well on your shopping bargains? I also lived in N Devon, albeit only for a couple of years, but loved every minute. I was introduced to thunder and lighting sanwiches there, a local 'delicacy' and still have one now and again :D

    1. Went to my 'breathing class' this morning, then to visit DD, then to physio to have pins stuck in me - far preferable than letting fish nibble my toes!
    2. Woke with a sore throat and the shivers so phoned for an appt to get some anti-b's just in case it goes chest-wards, and got to see the GP this afternoon. They're beginning to know that when I phone I need them now, not in a week's time.
    3. nsd
    4. Fell asleep when I got back from the surgery and woke just as EastEnders started. My one indulgence on television, trashy but good all the same :o
    5. My first free day in over a week tomorrow (today) so a lie-in if the pets let me, and little to do except snuggle on the sofa and keep warm

Night night, (((hugs))) and sweet dreams

    Morning

Gingersnap - good luck for today

    Pleasures for yesterday:
    1. Had toasted teacakes with butter at work, they were in offer in Tesco and the second packet was free so took them into work and shared with some friends. They went down very well
    2. Someone I used to work with was in the office yesterday as is helping out on a project. He now lives in Poland so was lovely to catch up and see lots of amazing pictures of where he now lives.
    3. There was a christmas market in the office next to ours so popped in to have a look. I was very good and only bought some homemade biscotti for FIL and a small bottle of HM Sloe Gin for SIL.
    4. Lovely dinner of beef casserole that had been in the slow cooker all day with mashed potatoes and Y.Puddings and enough left for another meal for someone. May be my lunch today:D
    5. Another organised night in the kitchen as made a pan of bolognaise sauce for tonights dinner, roasted a chicken to use in packed lunches and some other bits plus had a go at making HM crisps. DD needs to take a packed lunch tomorrow that needs to be free of processed foods but she is being difficult about it hence the HM crisps.

Hugs to all who need them
  • I did post something last night, but managed to lose it,so here it is:

    For Sunday and yesterday:

1 Made a Christmas pudding in the slow cooker.I'm going to make two more as have lots of veggie suet left over.

2 Went running again,so managed to do four runs last week after all.Never thought I would.

3 Had a nice day at work.

4 Arranging to meet a friend later this week.

5 The wee cat having a crystal drop moment!

ampersand chapeau for 'rising above it'.I still become mesmerised by the sheer beauty of the Frenh language, just listening to someone chatting, sometimes about the most mundane things.

Ginger Snap Good luck for today.

To all those feeling under the weather,I'd just like to say 'Get Well Now!' (thanks to the wee boy,who couldn't understand why people say 'Get Well Soon').

    Hi all

CCP your report of the conversation with the salmon people made me laugh, I would talk just as you did (even though the reason that Ladyhawk gave is completely reasonable and sensible!).

    Kitchenbunny
, hope your cold goes soon, keep warm!

ott09, it sure sounds like you need a chill-out day with your DH, even if the DIY is still undone! IMHO the DIY like the housework and other tasks always take second place when it comes to human relations and especially time spent with our loving family members! Well done on making a joint plan re. your finances!

Beachbaby, re. your new car, even if I am normally an anti-car militant pedestrian, this time I have to say GOOD FOR YOU! Well done on making a purchase that makes you feel good. The car is not necessarily an OS no-no if used wisely. But what the heck, if you want to use it unwisely for a while, just go right ahead and do so! Sometimes we just need to go unwise for a while and have the time of our lives in the process, and you sure need a bit of cheering, after all the sadness you have been going through! (Just watch out for those pesky speed cameras!) :-)

Blimus, re. fish pedicure, hmmmm... I had a few opportunities on special offer but I am just too chicken to go for it! Let us know how it goes!

Molly, I looked for the guide to gardening with the moon book but could only find a calendar for 2011, maybe the book is not out yet. It sounds very interesting and I shall keep looking!

Ladyhawk - snap! re. the thought that in one month we will have longer days again. The Winter Solstice is a day when I really rejoice and have a little celebration (all to myself! These are no longer the days that I would go dancing on a hillside, like in my youth!), for it is so loaded with the hope of spring even if it is the start of winter, paradoxically. Can't wait for the days to get longer!

Gingersnap, good luck with today teaching observation (by the time I am writing it is probably over, so I hope it went well!).

Katholicos: Good idea re. moving the DVD to an easier reach, I undestand that situation well as ours is on the floor (but because I let DH and the kids do all the set ups etc... I don't let it upset me too much :rotfl:).

Dundeedoll, good news re. the whoopsied foodstuff! It is always nice when it happens, no?

Frith, glad to see your smiley near the post about MrN, hope things are going well!

Sparrer, I hope your sore throat goes away and that you stay well, enjoy the leisurely day!

Tealady, homemade biscotti YUM! I would not have resisted them and would have had them with my tea (and then popped to M&S to get something for FIL ;))!

Marmite, what's a crystal drop? And I just wanted to add, the boy is right, we should say "get well NOW!", it is lovely to hear how little children are still able to live in the moment!

Today I started the day quite late, lazying in bed but not entirely happy about it, in fact it made me reflect how much better it would have been if I had been up earlier and done things, now I would not feel all pressurised that I have to do this and that. Some peope are coming to see us this evening and I am not overly excited about the idea (long boring story). I shall try to make the best of my day though, so here are my pleasures for today:

1 - Got up with DH and made him packed lunch. Glad I could do something for him!

2 - After DH went, I went back to bed with my two-egg breakfast and had a long lie-in.

3 - Mini mince pie was put by the suppliers as a gift in the organic veg delivery, nice and dinky, will have it with a cup of tea later.

4 - DD made lunch, lovely pasta with broccoli with loads of garlic and chilli.

5 - This afternoon I am harvesting the last of the borlotti beans for dinner tonight then iron DH's shirts. Not the greatest of pleasures but makes me feel I am doing something for him!

Have a good evening everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Caterina, just to put your mind at rest, the car is a necessity for my job. I am a support worker, so I dont feel guilty about having it, just the money I spent. When I'm not working I walk everywhere too.

Never seem to find time to come on here on a daily basis to post - if I didn't spend time lurking on other threads I might get a bit more housework done...... never mind....

    Last couple of days:
    1. Clearing two carrier bags of clothes from my wardrobe for the charity shop. Didn't seem to clear much space though.
    2. Spent a relaxing evening listening to wall-to-wall Bach music on our CD's, which rarely get an airing these days.
    3. Gradually reducing the apple mountain kindly given to us recently by a neighbour.
    4. Meeting a new neighbour who has just moved in nearby.
    5. Managed not to put the heating on during daytime for a couple of days now.

Beachbaby, I hope I did not sound judgemental in my post, I apologise if I did - please enjoy your new car and the freedom that comes with making your own decisions. So sorry for misunderstanding!:)

  • Oh, not at all Caterina, I would never think that of you. I also get angry at people who drive everywhere just for the sake of it, especially just for short journeys. X
  • Evening, everyone. Hope you're all well. Feeling much better tonight - it's weird. The cold symptoms seemed to last for an hour, then vanished apart from a slightly runny nose. Weird! Anyway, today has been a little better, although I'm tired. Here's my pleasures for today:

    1. Cleaning out a cupboard. I promised myself I'd clean out at least one cupboard a day in the kitchen when I started getting home from work earlier. Well, today I actually managed it! I cleared up my plastic tubs which had got scattered about in the tall pantry cupboard and have stacked them neatly now. That makes me feel a little better. :)
    2. Normally I sing along with the radio at work, and because of various things I haven't today. I got a bit more work done than normal, so I think that's a good thing. I can sing just fine (well, well enough for me) but I worry I'm distracting other people, or giving them cause to poke fun at me. Bit of a catch 22, really, but I shall persevere with the non-singing.
    3. No rain. Yet. The weather has been relatively clear, which is good because I like to have full visibility when driving. I hate things which could potentially put me off. So, having a nice day weather-wise has been a plus point.
    4. Walking to Mr M at lunchtime. It made a nice change to use my legs. I do worry because I used to walk for about 45 minutes every day and now I don't do that anymore. Eep!
    5. We got a Tassimo machine as a present last Christmas. I managed to find a new variety in their pod line up and bought some today - caramel latte macchiato - the very same one I always used to order from that coffee place with a certain Battlestar Galactica name. The cost of one of them is the same as the cost of all the pods, so I'm very happy there. :D

I think we'll have an omelette tonight. It's cold, and I fancy something quick and light as I'm starting to worry about my weight. I really ought to get on the Wii Fit when I get in - even if it is just for 15 minutes it'd be something. Have a nice evening, everyone!

Primrose - I love to listen to Bach. I find it very relaxing, so your evening sounds lovely. I'll have to dig out my CDs and make a playlist for the car.
Caterina - the pasta with broccoli, garlic and chilli sounds great - is there a recipe? If it's low fat I'll make some for my lunch!
Marmite - Is it fairly easy to make a Christmas Pud in a slow cooker? Well done on the running!
Tealady - mmm, HM sloe gin. Sounds great! Good finds. :)
Sparrer - Hope you feel better soon and hope you enjoyed the free day. :) Thinking of you.
Frith - Fairy cakes! They're cupcakes to so many others, so I'm really glad to see other people calling them as I remember them! :D
Dundeedoll - Wow, well done on the bargain meat/meal finds! I'm impressed. Whenever I look there's either a pack of curly-looking had-it sausages or a badly squished cake or tart. :S
Katholicos - What a cool find on eBay. Your evening with the book, bath, DVD and dog sounds great!
Gingersnap - That calendar sounds fab :D Hope you can have a bit of a rest now. :)

(((hugs))) to those in need. Have a nice evening, everyone.
