5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2
Comments
-
Evening all.
Patchwork Quilt - I hope the rhubarb vodka made you feel better.
ampersand - yikes, what a day you've had! Well done for managing to laugh - I think I'd still be muttering about the sesame oil in your place! You're so lucky to have sheep where you can watch them - I have a great fondness for sheep (which bemuses my sister no end!), and I'd love to have some where I could watch them whenever I wanted.
sparrer - what a nice gift of jumpers.Perfect timing for the approaching snow, too. :snow_grin
katholicos - I have much the same problem with recycling. The building I live in only has one recycling bin for 16 flats, so there's often no room in it and I end up putting stuff to one side 'for later'. When I lose the top of my freezer, I know it's time to make an effort to get rid of it all!
My pleasures for today:
1) After a couple of days with a decent amount of sunshine, I've been feeling a bit happier today.
2) NSD.
3) A walk in the sunshine, beside the sea, at lunchtime.
4) Had a phone call from the smoked salmon people to assure me that the salmon is safe for freezing, but just won't be as good when defrosted. I asked if that meant their normal smoked salmon, which is sold frozen, was sub-standard, but didn't get an answer (I know it was a mean question to ask, but I'm still a bit annoyed with them!).
5) Getting home to my nice warm flat. After months of complaining about how hot it is in the office (around 25 degrees when the sun comes out), they've finally fixed the problem - just as the temperature drops, so we all froze today. Typical!
6) Nice easy dinner tonight - beef stew that I made yesterday and left in the fridge overnight to help get rid of all the fat (it's a cut of beef I've never used before, and was rather alarmed by the layer of fat on the top when it finished cooking - it looks much better now that's all gone); some HM focaccia bread (well, HM from a packet, anyway - the wonders of Approved Foods); and some garlicky kale. Roll on dinner time!
Have a nice evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening, everyone. Not feeling too well tonight - about half hour ago I started sneezing and haven't been able to stop yet. Nose is v runny too.
Still, since I got home from work I'd been productive so I'm not too unhappy about not doing anything else. I've hoovered, washed the kitchen floor and sorted the ironing. I will still cook tea for DH as it is only a pizza, so not a big deal. Here's today's pleasures.
1. I seem to be having run ins with birds lately. Two magpies landed on my office windowsill and sat looking at me for a few seconds. It was very peculiar, but they're beautiful birds.
2. A cup of tea. 'Nuff said.
3. Time flew at work. I don't know what it is, but Monday's always seem to fly!
4. I'm trying to get back to buying from the high street rather than from the supermarkets, and picked up a lot of cleaning products and household stuff for a bit cheaper.
Can't think of a fifth, but something may still happen yet. I shall write a bit more tomorrow night. Have a good evening, everyone.

Hi to all,
I've been pretty pants at posting regularly as was going to be my daily routine, however work and life in general has been pretty busy although I have just skim read through what you've all been up to. Have to say that it has made me feel much better as I was feeling a little down.
We had all weekend off together- a real rarity due to DHs hours at work and we had planned to do an absolute shed load of DIY house tidy and organising jobs. But, we literally did none. Not a sausage. I wanted to do it together otherwise I get a bit resentful about doing it on my own and obviously much quicker when we do it together. As a result we spent Sat night watching TV and getting slightly bladdered (in my case I feel) and therefore Sunday was pretty much game over for me. I can't do anything- nothing with even a smidge of a hangover these days.
Plus last night we kind of realised just how terribly scarily dire our finances are. However we have come up with a plan so we're moving forwards. So my 5:
1) Having my amazing DH who is so much better at sorting the big financial matters out than I am and if I didn't have him I 'd be even worse off than I am- in many ways of course.
2) Came home from work early as I was on a course so came home whilst still semi light and got to see DH and have lovely dinner with him.
3) House is now nice and warm after this time last week when it had broken- no longer can I see my breath in the air when I speak.
4) Knowing that myself and my DH are on the same wavelength- whilst we were a bit worse for wear on Sat night it seemed like a good plan to think about going on a big holiday next Christmas- to NY. Yesterday evening, totally sober we both nearly peed our pants at the ridiculousness (???) of this. I also reminded him of our recent brilliant idea to join David Lloyd for 3 months- again fortunately we saw sense before taking action.
5) One of my good friends has had her baby today. Congratulations to her- first one of my school friends even though we're getting on a bit.
Lastly, a rather mean one but makes me happy in a very selfish way:
6) Don't have to give my friend at work a lift in tomorrow- mean but then I'm not tied down to times she wants and I am free to do my own thing. (Has become a difficult situation to get out of after doing it for quite a while now).
Hope you are all good

Good evening all. Quick post tonight. My five for today,
1. A good morning at work.
2. Getting rid of some clutter to some very grateful people on freecycle.
3. A lovely hot shower and my hair nice and straightened.
4. A nice meal out with my girls. Free, courtesy of the voucher I received from my friend last week.
5. I bought a car! I know it's not very OS at all, but I've never done anything like this by myself before, so in the hope that I have made a good decision I feel if I can do this I can do anything. That's the pleasure part more than the car itself.
Love to all. X0 -
Patchwork and Kitchen bunny - hope you both start to feel better very soon (())
Here are my five for today:
1) Went to the 'big' library in Norwich. Finally got a chance to look in the grown-ups section (usually hanging out with boys in children's bit).
2) DH took DS1 to see Harry Potter and I took DS2 to see Despicable me (super saver tickets - present from Grandma). We all thoroughly enjoyed our chosen films.
3) A fish pedicure place has opened in town (where you stick your feet in a tank and the fish nibble at your feet!) - this will be a great mum-date for me and my lovely mum. I remember in Mexico that some of the tropical fish liked to nibble feet. It was kind've okay until something bigger nipped my big toe :rotfl:That'll teach me for being too tight to hire the flippers as well as the snorkel and mask!
4) DS1's new English workbook arrived. I am obviously more excited by this than he is.
5) A full-ish moon on the sea again, one of the most beautiful sights ever :TDFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

Kitchenbunny wrote: »Molliethewestie - congrats to your DD for her becoming an independent walker! That's great news.
Also, that book sounds really interesting. It makes sense, as most vegetables and fruit are seasonal in a way - this is just making it a bit more of a celestial season.
What's the title?
The book is "A guide to Gardening by the moon" by Michael Littlewood, not sure if its out yet as the book came directly from the author himself.
A quick 5 from me:
- Visiting 4 charity shops and buying nothing, but I did give a large bag of my old clothes to one of them.
- DD was at her grandparents all day, which meant a day to myself.
- Enjoying a few hours on the laptop, watching TV and a large bar of chocolate
- Buying a few stocking filler presents in the pound shops.
- Getting a few jobs done round the house that I have been putting off for ages.

Evening all,
Hope the snifflers are feeling better.
Sparrer - the old table had two wide legs which meant you could only sit comfortably on two of the sides.
Beachbaby - congratulations on the car purchase. What colour is she?
CCP - sorry to be boring about the salmon... but the reason why their frozen salmon will be better than home frozen salmon is because of the speed of the freezing process. Theirs will be blast frozen in a matter of minutes which will mean that the ice crystals will be tiny, whereas the home freezer will freeze the salmon very slowly which means that crystals are relatively large. Sorry to be so dull!
Sooo... let me try to think of some pleasures from today...
1) NSD
ok... am struggling...
2) took a slice gingerbread to work (from the freezer) which was a nice midmorning snack
3) Posted off an ebay and amazon sales (except that I lost money on one item as it was 100g too heavy to go 2nd class... grrr!
4) Easy supper of left over roast veggie lasagne... YUM! This will be followed by gingerbread bread pudding with custard
5) Only a month until the days start getting longer!!!
Night night all
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Just a quickie posting tonight....am being observed teach tomorrow morning so have only just finished preparing my lesson for it. (Am dreading it, so please wish me luck!
)
1. Friends whose chickens we are sitting arrived back from holiday this morning with a present of an "Unusual chickens 2011 calendar". Its hilarious and will look great in the kitchen next year.
2. Got all my planning for tomorrow done, though I still don't feel at all confident.
3. DS told me over and over again tonight how much he loves me and what a nice mum I am, and if he could choose from all the mums in the world he would still pick me. (no, he wasn't angling for a treat!!) :A
4. Took DS to supermarket after school and he was incredibly helpful and well behaved. He can be such a sweetie sometimes.
5. OH has 3 (yes, 3!!) days work this week and a possible extra half day too. :T
6. Lovely phone call from my brother tonight, we don't talk often enough and he is fab.
Hugs to all who need them, I will be back tomorrow properly when this blasted assessment is over.0 -
My 5 for today:
1. Made a macaroni cheese and vegetable casserole type thing in the slow cooker.
2. Won a desk for DD for just over a fiver on ebay.
3. Decided to be sensible and move the DVD/Video player on top of the wooden tv unit as though it may not look too attractive, it is making me so breathless trying to put in and take out dvds and videos when it is right at the bottom of the tv unit. I shall watch lots more of my DVD and video collection now :-)
4. Had a chat with Mum on the phone, she usually is unwavering on buying only a fresh turky crown for Christmas, but i told her about an offer on the Morrisons website for frozen half price turkey and turkey crowns and i've talked her into letting me take her to have a look at the tomorrow. Should save her a bob or two!
5. Had a lovely soak in the bath this evening, read about 20 pages fro a book i'm reading, just had a nice big mug of hot milk, some meds, watched the pilot episode of the X-Files on DVD and have done a bit of crochet. My Dog has been curled up beside me and all is almost alright with my world.
