Gingersnap - I'm not much of a shopper but its got at the usual plus White Stuff, Monsoon and Fat Face. And a big Primark! There are some nice shops in the backstreets like Church Street which runs from the main shopping area to the Cathedral. It has a jewellers, map and book shops, big health food shop and a posh cookware shops amongst others.

Morning all. It's an odd time for me to be posting, I know, but I didn't get time to do it last night and it's dead quiet at work today so I've got a bit of time (that can't possibly last!).
missmoneysave - I know exactly what you mean about the coca-cola advert. I can't stand coke and I'm not a fan of the company, but seeing that advert always makes me :j:j:j.
Introuble - I'm sorry you had a lousy day at work yesterday - I hope today's going better.
Tealady - best of luck with getting the bathroom installed. Just hold on to how good it will be when it's all done, when the lack of facilities seems too much to take!
Frith - that's great news about the PPI debt (sorry, I'm still catching up!).
beachbaby (also from yesterday) - it's a real shame you can't come to the IOW festival - it would be great to combine a mini OS meet-up with a music festival. Please let me know if you find you can come after all - it would be great to meet you at some point.
My pleasures for yesterday:
1) Waking up to the sound of the coastal fog horn. It's such an "I'm at the seaside!" noise and never fails to make me smile. (Although my smile vanished when I got outside and found out just how thick the fog was - driving to work was seriously :eek::eek:.)
2) By lunchtime it had cleared enough for a walk in the warm, if slightly hazy, sunshine. And I found a new baker's shop has opened less than half a mile from where I work, with a remarkably tempting display of HM (well, shop made) cakes. I can't yet decide if this is a good thing or not!
3) Changed the bed linen so I had nice clean sheets last night, and put a cheap fleece under the bottom sheet, both to try and make the bed a bit warmer, and to disguise the fact I really need a new mattress. It certainly helped with the warmth, but didn't do much to disguise the over-friendly springs (they just want to be close to me).
4) Easy dinner of LO roast chicken from the freezer, stir-fried with veggies and a splash of soy sauce. I'd forgotten how nice simple stir-fried veggies can be.
5) Went out with friends to a pub quiz in the evening (which surprised them - my distaste for cold weather is so well known they didn't think I'd venture out). We won £3 each, which meant a small profit for as I was drinking lime and soda.
And one early one for today:
1) Got a PM from MSE to say my name was one of those picked out to win one of the cookery books. Fingers crossed I replied in time to get one!
Have a nice day, everyone.Back after a very long break!0 -

Hi all
Sorry if this is hurried and does not name individuals as I am at work and got to be quick - but (((HUGS))) to all who need them and well-wishing to all of you!
My pleasures for the last few days, a bunch in random order:
1 - The kindness of a couple of colleagues while I am having a rough time at work.
2 - Every day in work is a day less to do, towards my last day (not far now!).
3 - Freebie cinema tickets won on two separate occasions!
4 - Fish and chips lunch with a friend the other day.
5 - The weather holding up and still not too cold or wet.
Catch up with you all tomorrow (today being my Friday YIPPEEEEE!!!!). Have a good day xFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Afternoon all
Well things are a bit better at work now, I had a chat with my manager so fingers crossed it'll all be ok.
1. nice homeade lunch today with spicy chicken and salad. Yummy!
2. Dh having a weekend away fishing and only costing £15 for his permit. We have managed to beg, borrow and steal the rest of the equipment! Obviously I am joking about the steal bit......
3. Washing shoudl be dry by the time I get home so it wont be hanging about the house much longer
4. Got a fair bit of housework done last night so I wont need to do any tonight! Hurrah!
5. Still a glass-worth of cava left in the bottle...........:beer:0 -
Gingersnap, Sorry, I meant Bananagrams. It's a word making game which consists of little letter tiles (like in scrabble) that come in a banana shaped bag. I got mine from Lakeland ltd.
Will post again later. X0 -
My pleasures for yesterday
1) a day off work to get my car fixed
2) glorious weather - frosty, clear, bright, blue sky and not a cloud to be seen anywhere.
3) walking through it and exploring a village close by to me which I hadn't been around before. Found the library and a little precint of shops. Really lovely.
4) I was able to walk without too much pain (I have plantar fascitis and some days it can be excruciating!)
5) I did over 5 miles walking, and it didn't feel like too much.
6) My car didn't cost me an arm and a leg!
My pleasures for today
1) being at work when the weather is so horrid.
2) sorting out the emails from yesterday when I was off; all done and dusted in 30 minutes.
3) sorting out a comprehensive to do list at work, which is scary, but I feel more in control of things.
4) talking myself out of going to a shop that is closing today. Getting clothes cheap, if I don't really need them, is a false economy.
5) going to have a chat with my best mate tonight as she is coming over at the weekend so we need to sort out logistics!"A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440 -
Beachbaby Thanks for the info about the bananagrams game, have found it on Lakeland website and think I will give it a go.
Introuble28 Really glad your day was loads better. My OH also goes fishing, finds it very relaxing, but I agree the kit can be a lot of money to set up initially.
Cricket1234 well done on your exercise and sorting your car. Please what is plantar fascitis? Not heard of it but it does sound painful.
Caterina Please how do you go about winning the cinema tickets? Congrats on yours.
CCP Well done on the possible book win ,keeping fingers crossed you answered early enough! How lucky to live near the sea, even on foggy days...0 -
Evening all.
Well, I don't know what it's like elsewhere in the country, but it's utterly miserable in Portsmouth tonight. I'm so glad it's one of the few nights this week that I don't have to be anywhere!
Introuble - I'm glad you're getting things at work sorted out - I really hope things go better for you from now on.
Rebekah - your Alice in Wonderland vanity table sounds fantastic - I'd love to hear how it ends up looking.
My pleasures for today:
1) I WON A BOOK!!! :j:j:j That's my first competition win in longer than I can remember.
2) My mum texted me to say she's got the Isle of Wight festival tickets ordered. :j They're flamin' expensive so it's not really an OS pleasure, but it's something to look forward to over the cold, damp, miserable winter months. (I really don't like winter much. Does it show?)
3) Naughty but nice lunch of a hot brie and bacon sarnie from my favourite sandwich shop, with a mug of tomato soup. Nom.
4) My flat's developed a couple more faults, and the landlord has said he'll try and fix them today or tomorrow at the latest. It's so good to have a helpful landlord after my last one. (If you don't know the story, it's probably best not to ask!)
5) Football tonight, and on terrestrial TV so I can watch it without having to go out in the rain to go to the pub.
Have a lovely evening, all.
ETA - Ginger Snap - you're quite right, living by the sea is fantastic.Perhaps because I moved to the coast as an adult, rather than being brought up here, I really appreciate it - I try to go for a walk beside it at least once a week, preferably more, which my friends who were brought up here find rather odd.
Back after a very long break!0 -
