    Evening all.

ott09 - good for you deciding not to take work home anymore. :T I hope your boiler gets fixed quickly - it's far too chilly an evening to be without heating. smiley-sad018.gif

Introuble - I hope you got your work problems sorted out today. It's miserable trying to work in an unhappy atmosphere, and I'm sure everyone will feel better when it's been sorted out.

Kitchenbunny - well done for keeping your nerve and going for a drive - as Caterina says, it really is the only way. I was quite nervous when I first passed my test, and tried to avoid driving if I could - of course, I only got over my nervousness when I actually got on with it, and I was fine after a week or so (although I still don't like motorways much, so you're doing better than me there ;)).
    ******************************

    My pleasures for today:

    1) An entire day without a drop of rain, and even with a bit of sun this afternoon. :)

    2) The first act for next year's Isle of Wight festival has been announced, and it's a band my mum and I both love, so we've agreed we're going this year, with my sister. (It's a girls' outing we've done a few times, but skipped last year because there was no-one we particularly wanted to see. It'll be good to have a few days together again.)

    3) Received my Approved Foods order. :j I'm now so well stocked up for the winter I had trouble finding space for everything. :o

    4) LO chicken and lentil stew for lunch. Luckily a night in the fridge took the edge of the chilli-ness, as last night it was hot enough to bring tears to my eyes, and that was half a chilli in two large portions!

    5) I'm not good with cold weather (I usually feel cold even in the middle of the summer), so I'm planning on curling up tonight with a book, a fleecy blanky, and a chunk of HM bread pudding. Not exciting, I know, but then I'm going to be out Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday nights this week, so a night with no excitement (and no spending) might be a good idea!

    Have a lovely evening, all.
Back after a very long break!
  • Hope everyone is having a good evening :)

DH has had a day of achievements so my first two pleasures are dedicated to him:

    1) He got over a very-demanding part of a course that he's doing and got excellent feedback.
    2) And, after reading the Guardian for 28 years, DH wrote his first letter to them and he got a phone call tonight from them saying that his letter will be in tomorrow's paper :j
    3) DS's and I got very excited seeing the christmas decorations up in the shopping centre today.
    4) A good mood all round meant lots of laughter and excited chat at the dinner table this evening.
    5) Looking forward to sitting in front of the tv with some crochet.

    Evening all,

I meant to leave the office on time today so that I could get ready for some colleagues/ friends coming round for supper tomorrow... sadly I left ay 7.45pm... grrr!

I had a bit of an annoying day today. There is a lottery syndicate at work and the woman that runs it is a real dragon who for some reason doesn't like me (I don't mind that people don't like me if they have a reason for it - but with her I just don't know...). She absolutely hates her job and is so negative about everyhing that it is quite a drain. Anyway she wrote an email out to us today saying that we should really formalise the syndicate and sign an agreement of how it works which was fine, and she attached the agreement and asked for our comments. So I spent 20 minutes going through it making sure that it was clear and consise and making some suggestions (I have some experience in writing contracts so thought I would be helpful) before sending it back out to everyone. Well, the response I was back was really over the top and very unneccessary (as agreed by at least half the syndicate but they are too scared of her to stand up to her) . Anyway it has caused a lot of disquiet within the office which is so unfortunate so I have offered to run a new syndicate so I do not have to deal with her on a non-work basis again. It's a hassle but I know my friends don't want to deal with her either.

I realised today that the prognisis for my friend who was diagnosed with secondary cancer is probably not good :( I think they are going to put her on herceptin which is palliative rather than cure.

So let me think of some pleasures...

    1) Walked into town with a couple of my nice colleagues so that I could deposit some cash into my bank account... but the bank was shut for refurbishment... but at least I got out of the office for a bit of fresh air

    2) Arranged for lunch with a friend in a couple of weeks when I am on holiday (the day after the employee of the year awards - so I am taking it easy!)

    3) Finding a lamb stew recipe that I could make tonight in preparation for dinner tomorrow. http://www.waitrose.com/recipe/Greek_Lamb_Stew_With_Tomatoes_And_Olives.aspx
I don't like olives so have kind of used the recipe as a general guide. Unfrotunately the two people coming for supper are both trained chefs so I am starting to wonder why I suggested dinner!

    4) Six people are "watching" my eb'y sales so hopefully someone will place a bid soon.

    5) Getting my emails down to 63 that need actioning, which is pretty good for me.

That was a real struggle today to come up with 5. But I suppose that's the beauty of this tread - it's nice to share when you have good days and on your bad days it make you reflect on the positives.

    Thanks for "listening"

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
  • Ladyhawk Thank you so much for taking the time to write out the recipe for me! I will try it soon with my kiddies. :)

Caterina: Thanks for your very kind words! Some good luck would be very much appreiciated...in fact some could already be on its way as today was a much better day... :)

Kitchenbunny Well done on the driving! I think you are doing amazingly well, I still do not really do motorways now and I have been driving about 15 years! I find it harder to be honest if anyone (except my children) is in the passenger seat, as I am always more nervous when being watched and make silly mistakes. Keep at it, anyway!

Villagelife wow! What an accurate guesser I am! :) Bet they look lovely.

Introuble28 I really hope things get better at work for you. :(

Here's mine for yesterday and today:

    1. Felt drained and a bit low yesterday so took OH's advice and spent a lot of the day in bed, watching the remembrance service on BBCnews channel and then parts of the grand prix. I was very emotional after watching the service but realised how much I have to be thankful for...

    2. Played a few games of the children's favourite Yahtzee with them after tea. A simple game but they LOVe it!

    3. Felt a lot brighter this morning and met a friend for lunch in town at a quaint little tearoom. Had a gorgeous beetroot and goats cheese tart with sweet chilli dressing and green salad. Totally delicious. Enjoyed a really good chat and catch up with my friend and arranged another date to meet up soon. :j

    4. My tutoring session this afternoon went incredibly well. The little girl's mother said they couldn't come the next week as she and her OH had tickets to something. Cue the little girl BEGGING to be allowed to still come and asking if she could perhaps come tomorrow as well? :rotfl: She is making really good progress and is so keen, its wonderful.

    5. Watched Nigel Slater's simple suppers on BBCi player. Why haven't I come across his programmes or simple style of cooking before? A delight!

Well, I am off to bed as very weary now. A very good night to you all and hugs to all who need them.

villagelife I empathise on the reading out of names, it's so sad. Pleased you're feeling better now
Introuble sorry to hear of the ladies not getting on with you. But you know it's not your problem and there's really nothing we can do about people who judge others so don't let it upset you. It's their problem..
Frith well done on the walk, I love the feeling of cold on my cheeks even if they do sting when I go inside.
ampersand thanks for yet aother insight to the visitors in your garden. There are so many cats roaming this small square that there is a distinct lack of feathered friends so it's good to hear about the ones which visit you
ott09 great news about DH's upcoming gardening work, and good that it's a longish term one
CCP the IoW festival with your Mum and sister sounds good. Had you been at the OS meet on Sat you'd have been surprised to hear, as we were, that the majority of us have some connection with the island. Your evening of snuggling and bread pud sounds bliss, just my sort of pleasure too
Blimus congrats to your DH on being 'in print' so to speak, that really is a pleasure
marmite enjoy your time off, hope the weather holds for your runs. It's amazing how resilient roses are, to have one still in bloom must be beautiful to see
Ladyhawk I don't know if they still do it but when I ran a lottery syndicate for my tenants the lottery people issued a leaflet about how to do it legally. It might be worth having a look at their site? Your trained chef friends will no doubt love a meal cooked by you, rather than something menu-ish or 'designer'
Gingersnap the day in bed sounds like it did you good, sometimes we just have to chill ad recharge our batteries. The tart sounds yummy, love goats cheese and beetroot, what a good combination

    1. Kefi is coming home! They've managed to repair my little car against all financial odds, the ins co said it wouldn't be cost effective but the repair co said they could do it, and they have, so much rejoicing in the family! My DGC love my car as much as I do, I think

    2. Went to pulm rehab am then my first physio appt this pm, only had to wait two weeks from initial visit to GP and the lovely lady there asked if I'd like to try acupuncture to help my arthritis. Of course I agreed, having heard such positive reports I was more than happy to try. Also lots of intense treatment on neck/shoulder, and another appt for Thursday. Excellent service, NHS

    3. Visited DD and DGS, lovely to see him, now he's away from home it's a rare occurence.

    4. Al the running around made me peckish so I called into a sandwich place and bought a bacon and brie panini :o. Not at all OS so am resigning myself to a cheap and cheerful hm cheese and pickle toastie tomorrow

    5. Lovely message from the friend who took/picked me up from the station on Sat, asking for the recipe of the tea loaf I gave her for her kindness.

    Night night, sleep tight

    My five are
    1. Coffee with a friend at her house

    2. Easy tea of pasta and HN sauce from the freezer.

    3. DS2 complimenting me on mars bar crunch.

    4. NSD

    5. Listing more stuff on ebay and some already having bids on them.
  • Good morning you lovely lot of people. Had a really lousy day yesterday and didn't feel much like posting but I will find some pleasures from it.
Ladyhawk sorry to hear about your friend.
Villagelife, love the sound of mars bar crunch.
Sparrer, glad your car is sorted.
Gingersnap, well done on the games, they can be tedious but kids love them. Our favourite is banagrams.
Ampersand, gym before 7 - how do you do it?!
Marmite, I like to run too. Do you ever enter any events?
Blimus, I love to see the decorations in town. Our lights get switched on at the weekend.
CCP, I also got the email about the IOW festival but I dont think I can go. Hope you get your tickets on the 19th.
Otto, hope you get your boiler sorted.
Frith, whenever I read about Mr N it brings a smile to my face.
    My pleasures,
    1. A nice big bowl of syruppy porridge for breakfast.
    2. An exhausting day at work but more hours means more pay in time for christmas. (I just don't want to overdo it).
    3. Bought a £1 cookie jar from Mr A and it looks lovely full of cookies on my worktop.
    4. DD1 having a good chat with her counsellor. I wish it wasn't necessary but it seems to be helping her.
    5. Watching Gillian Mckeith on I'm a celebrity. I shouldn't laugh at her but can't help it.
Hope everyone has a lovely day. I'm going to have some more porridge! :-)

I'm sorry I've not been able to keep up with posts for a couple of days - just been very busy with work etc.

Will be post again later in the day when I get the chance.

Hope everybody is keeping well and getting lots of OS done.

Hugs to all - Ollie xxx
