Oh, I nearly forgot 1 of my best pleasures!
Over the months I have read of 1 posters struggle with alcohol............this poster was in a very dark place. Yesterday I read the most fabulous post from the poster saying they had not had any alcohol for 32 days and how good they were feeling and how life changing it has been.
I was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo pleased reading that post I burst into tears.

Sorry been awol for a day or so, the day out on Sat then meeting and lunch on Sun, exercise class and physio on Mon and form filling and a long meeeting Tues pm seem to have taken their toll...I slept on and off most of today
. I have a early start tomorrow then physio in the afternoon, plus all the normal chores, dog grooming etc., the next free day I have is Tues of next week - when did I ever have time to go to work?!
However, lots of pleasures over the past couple of days..
1. Kefi (so called as her reg is KE51. Well, it makes sense to me) came home, all spick and span, not a mark on her, she'd even been fully valeted. It's such a pleasure to drive her when I thought I'd never see her again
2. A lovely lady from one of the agencies visited on Tues am to help me fill in a 48-page form, which took us over 2 hours. I think she stretched it out a little longer that needed though because she liked my tea loaf, she had two and a half pieces
3. The best news of my week is hearing that a friends daughter, who lost her twin boys at 20 weeks, is expecting a baby! :j
4. Postie brought me a cheque for just over £30 for doing surveys
5. Tuesday and Wednesday were nsd's
6. I was going to buy a much needed new mouse but one of the people at Tuesdays meeting had a spare one, saving me about £8/10
7. Bought DD a beautiful, floaty red dress via mail order, and it fits her like a glove.
8. Seeing so many new and returning posters on the forum, and all the regulars of course. Lots of reading and positive happenings being shared. Thank you, it's always good to hear how everyone's doing whether it be good or ot quite so good
Time to sleep now, OT visiting at 9am  (good grief, I don't usually get up til 8 at the earliest so it'll be a lick and a promise and throw on the first things that come to hand) take care, sleep tight n sweet dreams

dundeedoll wrote: »I saw a post on here about someone wearing red tights and getting nice comments at work (Please identify yourself - can't remember who it was) and thought it was great so went and bought some. I wore them for my day out with a black skirt and top, chunky red necklace + knee high black suede boots. Got to my friends and she was wearing a black skirt, black tights, red boots and a red jacket. Perfect! We had 4 seperate compliments on our outfits during our outing.
I do so love to see bright colours on clothes and accessories on a dull winter day. They really liven up the scene. So many people feel they have to wear black or other dark "sensible" colours and in my view (and I'm guilty too) it does make the whole landscape feel more dreary.
Just off to the dentist so can't post any pleasures until that ordeal is behind me!0 -
Ginger_Snap wrote: »Cricket1234 Please what is plantar fascitis? Not heard of it but it does sound painful.
Well Gingersnap, plantar fascitis is extreme pain in my heel shooting up my leg and along my foot. Apparently it is caused by having either very high arches or very low arches (mine are the latter... I have no arches to speak of at all) which causes tearing in the plantar muscle. I have orthotic insoles which help, but sometimes it still hurts.
It is very painful when it is flaring and I wouldn't wish any one to have it. I have a very high pain threshold, but it makes me want to cry sometimes."A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"Herm Albright 1876-19440 -
1) Made DH a sandwich to take to work and saved him going to McD's, which is his fall back.
2) Cleaned up this morning and now have a reasonably clean and tidy house.
3) Didn't see my usual coffee friend today as she as at a funeral but bumped into someone I haven't seen for months, so I had coffee with her instead and had a very entertaining hour for the price of a mocha and a latte.
4) DD is cooking this evening, so I get to do a bit more on my essay whilst she is in the kitchen.
5) Managed not to spend any money on knitting magazines. I seem to have become obsessed by knitting (although I am an amateur, of course) and it's very tempting to get a magazine with some free needles but there is always the library and I have put a couple of books on my Christmas list, so I will just have to make myself wait.
Hugs to those that need them on this dark and cold evening.0 -
Good afternoon OSer's , Hope you are all well.
Here are a quick 5 from me for the last 2 days:
- Making homemade mincemeat for the first time ever. I used Delias recipe, but added Calvados instead of regular brandy to it, it smells lovely and appley and spicy!
- Received a competition prize which is a book about gardening and planting crops guided by the phases of the moon. Dh thinks its all a bit of nonsense, but I am willing to give it a try and will read it with interest.
- DD is, at last, becoming an accomplished independant walker, :T
- Made a start on DD's patchwork christmas stocking, it looks quite good so far, but it needs more christmassy material added to it, so i will have to have a hunt around the charity shops for something suitable.
- Being in a happy place, Oh and its not long till chrsitmas!!:xmassmile

Beachbaby - mm, turkey stew. That’s something I’m planning to do for Christmas. Do you use a leg or the packets of breast meat? At any rate it sounds great.
Ladyhawk - It’s nice when work goes well. Here’s for many productive days.
Dundeedoll - Congrats on giving up smoking and keeping off them. The money saved really makes it worthwhile.I’ve had a look on the homemade cakes thread on the Special Occasions board but didn’t know there was a way I could potentially use them to up my income. That’d be nice!
Sparrer - NSDs are always good. (((hugs))) don’t know why, just feels like you could do with them.
Patchwork - I have to stop myself from buying knitting mags. I would love to be able to knit properly, but beyond following simple patterns (and if I admit it to myself, finishing a project once I start one...) it would only be to look at the pretty pictures. Well done!
Molliethewestie - congrats to your DD for her becoming an independent walker! That's great news. Also, that book sounds really interesting. It makes sense, as most vegetables and fruit are seasonal in a way - this is just making it a bit more of a celestial season.
What's the title?
Here’s my pleasures for today:
1. There are lots of Children in Need activities happening this week, so today’s was a two-fold joy! Every day this week, one department has brought in cakes to sell. Today’s were hot puddings, and £1 early on secured a luscious piece of bread and butter pudding that looks big enough for 2 people. I was going to have it for lunch but the sandwich I had rather filled me up, so I’ve brought it home for DH and I to have one night.
2. The second was a tombola organised by another department. I didn’t win anything, in spite of the £2 spent on tickets, but it was a laugh and there were high spirits all around because of it.
3. Mr M are now doing jars of caramelised onion chutney. I’ve bought one so that I can taste it and see if DH likes it with cheese, etc, for over the Christmas period. And then I’ll find a recipe and just refill the jar
4. A piece of brie on RTC. If I were only allowed one type of cheese for the rest of my life, it would be brie. Mmm. I’ve just had a corner with a bit of bread and butter, as we’ve only soup for tea.
5. Tomorrow is Friday! There are still plenty of Children in Need activities going on; the tombola will go on for another day, more Guitar Hero challenges, darts (highest score gets a Bendy Bully!) and some quizzes happening, so it will hopefully be a pleasure.
As I’ve mentioned, we’ve only soup for tea tonight, as that’s what DH fancied when I asked him this morning. My mealplan has gone out of the window a bit really because of one thing or another, and I like him to feel involved with the food choices. We’ll have tomato soup with some of the croutons he likes and some bread. Might have to pop to the shops tomorrow lunch time, but we’ll see as I might stretch out what we’ve got and go on Saturday instead. Sandwiches for tomorrow’s lunch are already prepped and in the fridge, so now I can go on and tidy the kitchen a bit and then have a nice hot bath, ready for the evening ahead. Hope everyone has a good night, and (((hugs))) to those in need.

Evening all.
Primrose - I know what you mean about bright colours.I wore my favourite socks today - black with multicolour dots (those are the actual colours, BTW) - you couldn't see them under my boots but I knew they were there!
sparrer - that's great news about Kefi. :j And how nice that your cake was so good your visitor wanted to stay long enough to have more.****************************
I woke up in a lousy mood this morning and spent much of the day on the verge of tears (I really don't know why, as I'm using my lightbox regularly), but I'll try for a few pleasures:
1) Did a double Reverbe - found 2p, then 1p.
2) Found some sausages, which I need for next week's mealplan, RTC.
3) A seriously cute Christmas cake in a shop window - it's covered in icing penguins, and I can't imagine how you could bear to eat one.
4) Easy dinner tonight, from the freezer - I'm eating early as I might be meeting my dad on his way back from one of his regular trips to south London (or I might not be meeting him - I haven't heard from him yet, so I've no idea where he's got to, or if he'll have time to meet me).
5) I seem to have shaken off the tearfulness this evening - I hope it stays gone, as it's really not like me at all.
Have a nice evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
5 for yesterday (Weds) if I can remember.
1) Had 2 quotes for the work on the house. One man was slightly creepy but seemed to know what he was talking about. The other man was not creepy but patronising and decided my house should be rendered (hmmm, Victorian red brick, pit cottage covered with render - nice!) Anyway, glad to at least have had the quotes and the sensible man's quote wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought.
2) Did a few odd jobs.
3) Went swimming with my brother.
4) MrN's poorly son has been poorly all week so I helped a bit with the tea over there and made the pudding. I'm not sure that my getting in the way in the kitchen and stopping there to eat IS helpful, it's hard to know what to do, really. Of course if I go, I have to take my small entourage with me!
5) Spoke to my sister on the phone about her new house. She is getting the keys tomorrow, contracts exchanged etc!!!!!
6) MrN came round later, fairly stressed and I don't know what to do besides bits of random cooking and making him a cup of tea. :-(0
