Evening all.
I hope you're all OK on this wet and wild evening (except for savingforoz, who's well out of it.)
savingforoz - it's lovely to hear from you, and I'm so glad you're having a nice time.
sparrer - thanks for mentioning The North Wind Doth Blow - that prompted an interesting discussion at work today.(And also raised my inner pedant - I couldn't remember the last line and looked it up on a website, and had to resist the urge to email the website designer and let them know they'd made a logical error in their choice of picture: a robin has a red breast, but that doesn't mean all birds with red breasts are robins - the picture was of a redstart.)
Anyway, pedantry aside, I had a better day today but I'm not sure if I can find 5 pleasures from it:
1) My sink has now been fixed. :j
2) The lettings agent gave the poor plumber completely the wrong information about the problem so he turned up with the wrong stuff and had to go off and pick up the right bits to fix the problem. That meant I spent most of my lunch hour sitting on the sofa with my cat, watching the rain. There's definitely worse ways to spend an hour.
3) Found some posh cat food on special offer in the supermarket, and my cat loves it. (Which is a relief!)
4) HM pizza tonight - yum.
5) It's Friday!!! :j:j:j
Once again, I did manage 5 after all.Have a nice evening, all.
Back after a very long break!0 -
Hi everyone, sorry I've been absent for a few days been ill and stressed and generally feeling rubbish but in the spirit of this thread I shall find five pleasures for these last few horrible days.
1. Being invited to join Shop & Scan, I think I would do it even if they didn't give you vouchers. I've never really got over my childhood 'scanning looks sooooo much fun' phase. Been scanning like a mad woman and I won't let OH have a go, at least not until the novelty has worn off!
2. Some freebies in the post and the lastest issue of Lush Times carefully left open on the gifts page, it's my birthday in 4 weeks and xmas in 6 so there is no excuse!
3. Having a really understanding OU tutor that has granted me an extension.
4. Having a brilliant support network that help bring me back around when things are bad. I have aspergers syndrome and when something throws me off I go into meltdown and forget all the positive things I have and do achieve. It's so nice to have strong people around me that remind me why they love me when I think I'm completely horrible and unloveable.
5. Having a request from OH's mum to make the soup for xmas dinner. I made some tomato and chilli soup for our bonfire party and it's the first time I've ever really cooked for people and they were all so impressed. So pleased they liked it.
An update on Ian the puppy: He's sprawled out on sofa looking like butter wouldn't melt! He's doing so well with his toilet training and I have toughened up and started to leave him alone and go out and he's getting on fine. Not even whining anymore. In hindsight it was probably the beginning of my meltdown rather than the dog itself. He's an angel really.Comper, Blogger & OS-erCompetition prizes: £6/£20150 -
Evening all,
Hope you have survived the miserable weather without any damage.
Hear back from the garage about my car (only 5 weeks since I first took it in) and apparently the fly wheel needs to be replaced. This is annoying since A) it was replaced less than 2 years ago when the clutch was replaced andthey wanted to charge me £900 for the priviledge. Apparently since it was replaced when the car was still under warrenty the work is only covered until that warrenty expires. As it was the first time it went bang it was a week before the manufacterers warrenty expired which meant that it was covered for a whole week. Bah! So I told them to put it all pack together again and I am going to an independant garage who is charging me £600. It's a pity really since the people at the VW garage had been really nice during the painful process - but who can sniff at £300 these days?
1) Getting loads off my to do list ticked off including cleaning the kitchen and the kitchen cupboards.
2) Taking the contents of the tummy from Eamonn the mortgage pig to the bank. Except that cashier didn't put through the cheque through so my account is slightly lighter than it shold be. Luckily I have the receipt so I have emailed to them to ask them what I need to do about this. I know I definitely gave it to her as she was looking unsure wat to do with it when she put it on her left.
3) Waking up at 9am in a warm, toasty bed now that I have two duvets on my bed. A really true pleasure!
4) Getting another load of washing done.
5) Yummy dinner from the freezer... gorgeous beef curry with brown basmati, followed by apple and quince crumble with custard. All washed down with a yummy glass of wine.
hope everyone has has spectacular weekend.

1) rain!
2) another diy chocolate-orange hot chocolate meets cappuccino
3) batches of home made soy yogurt in the slow cooker are yogurt-ing as i type! i had started a small batch in a flask with soy almost out of date yogurt but decided to try again with a fresh little pot but it seemed to have began setting after three hours so i've left that one be and got some more (with added agar) in the SC!
4) having a big tidy and washing session
5) the hot bath i'm about to step intoLiving cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -

Ooh, I do that - it's fun, innit? It drives my poor cat mad, though - I get home from shopping and he wants some fuss, but I'm too busy scanning things to take any notice!
I'm glad your pup's behaving better now, and I hope you feel better really soon.
Ladyhawk - I wish you hadn't mentioned 'bed' - I'm really sleepy this evening, but it's far too early to go bed-ward yet. Oh well, only another couple of hours.Back after a very long break!0 -
Hi all
Savingforoz, great to see you on the thread and please accept my apologies for not mentioning your greetings to all as you asked me, it completely went off my mind (frequent senior moments, these days - no excuse, just an explanation!). Great to hear that you are enjoying your trip and it will be great to hear from you and read all about your adventures!
Here are my pleasures for today:
1 - No work day!
2 - Washing done and nearly dry by the time it started raining, so it is finishing to dry on the clothes horse but as we have the heating on in the evening that is not going to be a problem.
3 - My new cleaner did not turn up. The pleasure is that I was going to to tell her that I needed to let her go in the next few weeks once I stopped work. I was dreading this as she is such a nice person, pleasant and very professional, too. I found out from her relative in London that she has gone back to Portugal where her partner and little girl live. Good for her, as she had told me how much she missed her family. I am delighted for her (and for saving me from having to take her job away from her).
4 - DS is composing amazing music and his friends rap over it, the stuff he is creating is really magic (and the rapping very gentle, no heavy stuff, really good poetry in fact!).
5 - One of DS's friends is the son of my best friend. Recently he has been really ill with mental health issues, depression etc...and it was a pleasure to hear him laugh with DS and to see him much more cheerful and looking healthier.
6 - DD is in the middle of her second Uni project and she showed me it, she is amazingly creative, I am so proud of both my kids for being so artistic!
7 - My Courtesy Club thread is still going strong and more people are joining - it has now been moved to the Arms and even though I was worried that I might find some aggressive posts there, everybody who posted was really pleasant and polite.
8 - Amazing homemade fishcakes for dinner: I have seen the light, I have discovered the use for instant mash potato flakes (the basic one, too!). Reconstituted and mixed with a couple of smoked mackerel fillets, one egg, some chopped parsley and spring onions, shaped into patties, rolled into breadcrumbs and shallow-fried. Served with steamed kale. Pudding: impromptu (read: no recipe, fingers crossed on quantities) apple and walnut cake, it turned out very nice, too!
9 - Looking forward to the OS meet tomorrow!
Good night everybody xFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hi savingforoz  good to hear from you! Looking forward to hearing how your adventure's going when you get time
Really weary tonight so a quick five
1. cleaned the downstairs, stairs and landing, I have to do the stairs at the same time as the lounge as it's open plan. not my favourite job but at least it gets done more regularly than when I lived in a conventional house
2. Baked two cakes and two loaves, the house smells lovely
3. Went shopping to Mr M pre-baking session, and found 8 flower bins for 99p. I heard the bigger stores sell them but it's the first time I've seen them locally
4. Did a load of washing and it blew (understatement, I thought it was going to take off!) almost dry before the rain came.
5. Just heading for bed, an early night tonight so I'll be ready for my friends to take me to the station in the morning. So looking forward to the OS meet :j
Night night, sweet dreams

Frith - yoga class. I try that every now and again, and ow!
Caterina - the odd takeaway now and then is just wonderful. We gave in to a frozen pizza last night and, while it was a nice change it was nothing like the ones I normally make. The fishcakes sound nice.
Introuble - Ooh, that offer is on again on the Charmin? I got one of those when that offer was on early this year and we’ve still got stacks.Looks like it’ll last us til next year, too.
Ginger Snap - I’d love to keep chickens. While we rent, it’s impossible, but some time in the future I would love to.
Crickett - nothing like a cat to warm the lap.
Hi Savingforoz - good to see you! Hope you’re having a good trip so far.
CCP - I love watching the rain. Lucky you!
missmoneysave - what kind of soup will you make for Christmas dinner? I’m thinking of making some, and am looking for something festive.
Ladyhawk - I’m a bit behind with my cleaning, and the kitchen really needs an overhaul.Well done on getting yours sorted.
The curry sounds tasty!
adelight - A nice hot bath is just the thing to warm you up on a cold day.
sparrer - I love it when the house smells of a baking day - it’s fab! Well done on your Mr M Bin bargain!
Here's my 5 pleasures for yesterday:
1. A little box of chocolates from my boss (and friend) for passing my test. I Also got a little air freshener shaped like a flower from another friend, to go with the (already eaten) Flake.
2. Getting a new 12 piece dinner set for what we thought was £12.50 from Mr T, but when we got it to the checkout it was only £6.25! :T
3. Finding the sachets of instant cappuccino that DH loves are on Buy One Get Two Free at Mr T too. They were sold out last night but I shall be popping back to get some of these.
4. Splashing out on shop bought pizza for tea, as both of us were tired and stressed and had had very long days.
5. I didn't go out at lunchtime, so I didn't do any unnecessary spending in my working day. True, we did go shopping last night but that was for necessary things.
DH isn't sleeping too well, bless him, hence the early start today. I hope he feels a bit better soon - it is worrying me a little. I hope everyone has a good day. I'm feeling a little down myself, but I shall throw myself into some cleaning in a bit and try to get it out of my system. Might bake some rock buns for our lunches. Have a good day.

Morning all. Up early as usual as the dog needed to be let out. She manages to get back to sleep though! Savingforoz, great to hear from you. Hope it's going well. My five for yesterday,
1. House still in one piece after all the wind and rain.
2. Took my time sheets into the office and had coffee and mince pie - ok, I confess pieS!
3. Lovely tuna pasta bake for tea.
4. My fantastic girls in the school concert.
5. Chatting to a lovely lady I was sat next to at the concert - didn't feel so alone.
Love to all. X0
