  • Ollie - we're going to see Stewart Francis - he has been on Mock the Week and the Comedy Roadshow, so it should be good. :)

What a dreadful day! I was fortunate I had my eyes on the road as a tree had been blown across it, and I was driving the courtesy car . What may have happened doesn't bear thinking about, ha ha

Ladyhawk I got a phone call from Soc Serv's today, they're coming some time next week to do an assessment but can't for the life of me remember what day :o. So much going on at the mo I should hang my diary round my neck. I'll give them a ring in the morning, they'll think they're dealing with a right old dodderer! Excellent news re the rebate :j , I'll keep everything x'ed for you for a healthy one

ampersand sorry to hear about your fall, hope there's no damage other than to your clothes. Your robin reminded me of the poem The North Wind Doth Blow. Hope your robin found sanctuary in a warm barn or similar

CCP sorry it's been such a horrid day but well done on finding five among the disasters :D

Pam what a terrible thing to happen, no wonder you were angry . Good for you finding some pleasures despite the let down

Tealady what an amazing surprise! Congratulations on your win, hope you all enjoy the free lunch :j

Ollie thanks, it's getting sorted this week. I hate it though, managed thus far and now feels like giving in, getting on, call it what you will. I don't tolerate illness well, particularly my own, and am quite angry with myself for having to do this. It certainly makes me understand the feelings of some of my previous tenants. Good for you taking an evening off, about time you did as you're always runing around doing things for other people. Hope you feel your batteries are recharged now :D

Niksyg you're so right, we're still our Mums little girls and half expect to be pulled up about something or another. Have a great time with her. Congrats on the mortgage cert, how exciting :D

    5 for today

    1. Drove the courtesy car to do some essential shopping - sweater, sox etc ;). It's not too easy to drive as the bonnet slopes down so I can't see it, makes it difficult to judge when parking and I'm terrified I'm going to hit a wall or something . However, so far so good
    2. Postie brought me a sample of Anna Sui, love her perfumes :)
    3. Made a delish green Thai curry with bits from the fridge, freezer and store cupboard. It's amazing what one can make from nothing, and there's enough for tomorrow as well
    4. Sitting indoors with a nice hot cuppa and slice of tea bread while the rain did its worst outside
    5. Have I Got News For You, brilliant as awlways

    Night night, sleep tight

    3) Bought some apple juice from school made from the apples in the school orchard.

    Hi all

Sorry to read that so many had difficult circumstances and events and that so many people were affected by the bad weather. (((((COLLECTIVE HUGS))))) to all who need them.

Ollie, thanks for the suggestion that I use bicarb on the teasmade, I might give it a try but will try lemon juice first because I think there might be need for descaling first, then deodorising - or I might even use vinegar for a stronger effect! Will let you know how it goes.

Sparrer, no the baby is not "one of mine", I am well retired on that aspect, thank goodness! The only "doulay" thing I did for her and her mum was a bit of breastfeeding support at the beginning, but only as a neighbour, not in a doula capacity. Mum needed a bit of reassurance and that is all I did - they are absolutely thriving and I am delighted for that little family!

Ampersand and Marmite - well done to both on braving the storms to go and do your exercises, you put me and my laziness to shame and I shall look up at you both as inspirations to get my fat bottom shifted and dragged down the gym!

CCP sorry about your bad day but well done on finding pleasures even in the difficult time you were having. Hope today brings you joy and contentment!

niksyg, congratulations on your mortgage application!

Frugalpam, so sorry to hear about your very inconsiderate brother, I hope you read him the riot act - not that it helps on the day, mind you, but at least hopefully he might be less inconsiderate on a different occasion.

Tealady, well done on the win, hope your office people are suitably grateful! Let us know what you won please!

Frith I hope you have a less stressy day today!

Here are my pleasures for yesterday:

1 - Although my last few workdays are driiiiiiiipppppppiiiiiinnnnnnnggggg slloooooooowwwwwwwllllllly at least I have a couple of really pleasant colleagues and I can break the monotony by sharing a joke in the kitchen over a cup of tea. That is one side of work I shall really miss!

2 - Lunch with one of these colleagues, we had a good moan about what's wrong with the place - a good moan is very comforting at times!

3 - Although not very pleasurable at the time, DH and I helped a neighbour who came to our home last night because she was feeling sick and she was alone with her little baby - we sat her down and made her tea - eventually she was sick in our front garden. DH helped her and I held the very frightened little baby. Eventually her husband came and got her back home and into bed, poor girl. The "pleasure" as such was that we were there to help her. It would have been really terrifying for both of them if nobody had been here and she had to be so ill alone.

4 - Her husband knocked at our door and gave us a gift of wine and chocolate. We thanked him warmly and explained it was not necessary, but he was very grateful and insisted that we take them. How very kind of him!

5 - After all that (it lasted approximately a couple of hours) there was no time nor inclination to cook in my household so we gave ourselves permission to have a nice Indian takeaway.

I shall be back for today pleasures later x
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Hello everyone,
Its pretty freezing and miserable up here today as well.
I cant wait for 5pm so I can get home. My husband's aunty has been in and dome my housework so I can just do dinner then relax.

I have been at work all day so I will ry and think of 5.......

    1. Some nice chicken breasts to make into a curry tonight. Bought as part of an offer at Mr Ts
    2. Hubby's birthday party tomorrow night. Glass of cava and a takeaway at home then off to a small local pub for Karaoke with soem great friends.
    3. The discovery of some really cheap loo roll in Lidl. 24 rolls of charmin for £6.99!!! I will stock up!
    4. A long lie tomorrow morning DH is workign so I get the bed to myself!
    5. A nice, long relaxing bath tonight (we're saving money so we have showers all week then one bath at the weekend!)

Thats about it, I am usually much more productive at the weekend! I must say though, I love this thread for inspiration, its a lovely cheery place!
  • What a yukky afternoon! Here are my pleasures (the weather isn't one of them..)

    1. Friends of my OH brought their two hens (Betty and Hilda) over to us this morning to be looked after while they go on holiday. Its nice to have more chooks in the garden and the extra eggs will be nice too! I shall have to do a bit of baking this weekend...

    2. OH had no work today but was chuffed to get several calls during the day, setting up possible contacts, plus a small job for tomorrow. Its good to be wanted and his confidence is definitely on the up.

    3. As I don't work Fridays (a pleasure all in itself!) we went to 3 garden centres/nurseries to find a tree for our front garden. It has to be in a large pot as we only have tarmac, but we found a lovely specimen which is a type of fir but not an overly Christmassy one. We aim to have tiny white lights on it over Christmas and then just enjoy it unadorned the rest of the year.

    4. I found a Yankee candle sampler to try that is from their essential oils range called stress relief in Cinnamon and Frankincense. It smells just like a spa (not that I have been to many!) and should be very relaxing.

    5. Our two new chickens have been chasing each other around the garden in a very skittish mood today, fighting over pieces of bread, interesting insects and so on. They are very mischievous, but utterly adorable. They look like large speckled pigeons and move like roadrunners! They can also fly remarkably well and we are not totally convinced we will not find them in the field beyond the 6 foot high boundary fences...

I will be back later to read other's posts properly... :)
  • I haven't posted on here for such a long time. However, I feel the need to top up on positivity and attempt to find 5 pleasures...

    1) I was asked to sing solo at a Church function. I do it all the time, but it was nice to be asked. Especially when my sister was in the room and she heard me be asked! :D

    2) That hubby is not working this weekend. We had thought, right up until last night, that he was going to have to work. But now he can come with me to the Church function and then we can have a relaxing afternoon/evening at home. Lord knows, we need it.

    3) My car has a place at the doctors on tuesday. I am getting alarmed at the occasional sound like I have a piglet trapped under my bonnet. I know it is just a fanbelt that needs tightening/replacing, but I am just glad it could be done soon! Hopefully it won't cost me an arm and a leg!

    4) It is 3.36pm on a Friday afternoon and I can head for home at 4pm - barring major disasters and my bosses asking me to do something stupid at this time of the day.

    5) One of my cats has decided that Mummy's lap is rather pleasant to sleep on, after all, and has been spending lots of time on it over the last few nights. It has been very comforting on these cold, wet, dark and windy evenings.

    There.... that feels better! :D

Hope I've not been entirely forgotten as it's been so long since I posted...but as per my signature I've been otherwise occupied!

So apologies for not catching up with everyone's news, and I hope you are all well. There's so many pleasures for me right now - let's find 5:

    1. It didn't rain here today in Vietnam - the weather has been dire due to the bad rainy season in Asia, and a recent typhoon off the Vietnamese coast.

    2. Staying well within my travel budget today.

    3. Walking around the amazing historic town of Hoi An and enjoying the sights for free.

    4. Yummy lunch in a local restaurant with freshly squeezed orange juice, all for less than the equivalent of £2.

    5. Lovely large hotel room, with free wi-fi, for $10 a night.

That's all for now, take care x
