Caterina I am so very sorry to hear about your friend, what a shock. I agree with you that one positive to come out of a tragedy like that is the realisation that we have to live each day to the full and make the most of what we have...
CCP What's approved foods please??!?! I must have missed that one...
ampersand Your description of your evening walk when you spotted the hares was so poetic and beautiful, thank you! I was there, reliving the moment with you!
Kitchenbunny Many congrats on passing the test! I worked with a lovely lady once who took it 13 times before she finally passed!!
Sparrer I am sorry to hear about your poor car! You seem very lucky with friends though who are helping you stay mobile...:) Hope you enjoy the OS meet at the weekend, very exciting!
Frith Really glad your son is loads better and you have found out what was wrong. Very worrying for you yesterday- I wonder if a high temp was causing his confused state?
Right I had better get off the computer and pay my OH some attention. Since he cleaned the cooker and I didn't immediately notice he has been angling for a bit of appreciation!!!
Night all, hugs to those in need.0 -
Evening
KitchenBunny - Huge well done to you:j:j:j:j
Pleasures for today:
1. Yummy porridge for breakfast, always fills me up until lunchtime
2. Manicly busy day at work today the upside being I didn't move fromn my desk so a NSD
3. Pile of ironing done before work still some left to do but not a massive amount now
4. Windows in the kitchen cleaned tonight, now gleaming
5. Some money off vouchers in the post for Sainbugs. Should help reduce the food bills for the next couple of weeks
Hugs to all who need them0 -
ampersand - how odd. Just as I am reading your pleasures 'Adagio for strings' is playing on the tv in the background (The Edwardian shop). I love Samuel Barber too.
kitchenbunny - thanks! It was me who asked after sausage chilli. And massive well done on passing your test :T
Here are mine for today:
1) A NSD
2) Met up with a good friend for a rather blustery walk.
3) Starting to crochet some lovely colourful Mexican-style place mats.
4) Made some mushroom soup and some creamy mushroom tagliatelle from a large punnet of whoopsied shrooms. Very nice.
5) Finished off by an unnecessary (but tasty) microwave sponge pudding. Stuffed!DFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

It's a website which sells off food that's passed or nearing its best before date, so it's all super-cheap - it's like an online version of a reduced to clear counter at the supermarket. Several people on here have recommended it, so I've decided to give it a go - the website's here - http://www.approvedfood.co.uk/ - if you fancy a look.
Right, I'm off for an early night as I've got an early start tomorrow for a day of playing committee secretary (yawn) - the only good thing is that lunch is included, which will save me a few pennies. Night all!Back after a very long break!0 -
Hi all
Thank you for all your kind words re. my friend's death. It is really difficult to realise that she is really gone, even though I haven't seen her for a couple of years we had remained in email contact until she got very ill. I shall miss her sorely.
Kitchenbunny, well done on passing your driving test!
CCP and Ginger Snap - the pasta recipe can be made with any brassica vegetable, even with savoy cabbage, or regular broccoli, or cavolo nero (black Tuscany cabbage). We all love it and it is a regular feature of our family dinners.
Here are some pleasures from my day:
1 - Enough to do at work so not bored silly.
2 - After emailing all staff to let them know that I am leaving I got a few emails back from colleagues, saying they are sorry to see me go.
3 - The director insisted that I should attend their Christmas lunch. I was not going to, because I would have already left by then, so I though it inappropriate (the organisation is paying) but he said that I really would be welcome. I shall go and it will be the opportunity for me to say goodbye properly to all the people there.
4 - An ex-neighour (who moved away shortly after having a baby) came to visit us briefly with her 3 month old baby, a delightful little girl, so happy and giggly. I had a good cuddle with her!
5 - Dinner was delicious, vegetarian shepherd's pie with squash topping (instead of potato) and sauteed cavolo nero side dish. Pudding, baked apples and blueberries (with ice cream for the dairy eaters).
6 - 1 work day down, 8 to go (before my last working day)!
Good night everybody xFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Evening all,
Thank you for your advice. My friend A was very sensitive to me (!) and took the lead in our discussing her diagnosis. So we both got to say what we wanted to without it being awkward.
1) I'M ON HOLIDAY!!! YAY!!! a whole 5 days away from work. That could be all my 5 pleasures today. :j:j:j
2) Popping out at lunch to get my fancy dress out fit for the work Christmas party. I'm going as Titania. :A
3) NSD
4) Went out for dinner with a group of colleagues which was a lot of fun... especially since we convinced them to put it on their expenses!
5) Having a cup of tea with my friend A this afternoon
As I think I mentioned previously I was offered a number of sewing machines from Freecycle over the weekend. One of which said was from a lady in an adjacent group that she was just finishing using hers and then would be happy to pass it on. Anyway I noticed that someone from my local group, who previously had given me something was looking for one as well. So I contacted the first woman to explain the situation and asked if she minded if I passed her details on (I won't normally do this - except that she had seemed really friendly in her previous emails). Anyway the response I recieved back was shocking to say the least. You would think that I had suggested her mother's affections could bought easily. :eek:I know I should ignore it, but all i was doing was trying to be helpful, as people have been to me. All she had to say was that she rather I didn't. Maybe it was cheeky? Is it not the done thing? I unreasonably upset by the stupid remarks of someone I will never meet... it's so silly.
Anyway - rant over.
Sleep well everyone.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Just a quickie tonight..........hope that those going on the OS meet at the weekend have a lovely time..........Hugs to all those that need/would like them. X

I feel the two are connected0 -
Evening all  - what a bitterly cold day in Scouseland today brrrrrrr.
marmite - what a great idea about the clock - I'd forgotten about that tip.
missmoneysave - fingers crossed that he's 'getting the message' now.
Introuble - wd on the home-made truffles - sound delicious - if you're short of volunteers .................. awwww you managed to find volunteers
Good luck with your 'freezer wanted' - I've done similar where I live, but nothing yet
.
CCP - have you checked out 'freecycle/freegle' for a breadmaker - they often get given away on there. Amazing how many folks get them and then don't bother with them. Also car boot sales sometimes have them - hope you manage to find another one. A thunderstorm in November  !
Caterina - sorry to hear about your friend -for you. wd on getting the teasmade and hope you manage to get rid of the nasty taste - have you tried soaking with bicarb? Hope the next 8days fly by
.
beachbaby - hope the young lad continues to improve his life - good to hear about young people getting on 'against the odds' :T.
niksyg - how lovely of your OH to take pooch for a walk in the rain.
frugalpam - hope yourhas now settled down again after her op. wd on getting into a dress that didn't fit you :j.
Ladyhawk - wtg on your sewing machine - whole new world of possibilities ahead :T. and great news about your presentation - you go girl! Sorry to hear about your friend - can only say what others have said - keep it natural and take your lead from her attitude and how she's feeling at any given moment. Wow how unpleasant for you - if she felt like that, she only needed to say that she would rather you didn't - don't let it put you off using Freecycle/Freegle - some people just over-react sometimes -for you.
Tealady - wtg on the rice cakes trial - came in handy :j. wtg on your- my most despised job
.
ampersand - timely reminder about Tesco Vouchers there - thank you:T. What a fabulous walk you had - full of nature's joys.
Kitchenbunny - love the sound of your sausage chilli. I've got some Sweet Chilli Turkey sausages lurking in the freezer - hadn't thought of doing similar with them. I usually sweat onion, garlic, sliced mixed peppers with chilli/paprika/cayenne till onions transparent, then add drained kidney beans and tin of chopped toms - could cook the sausages, slice thickly and throw into that mix - now salivating at the thought . Hope you manage to sort out your Sky Box. :T on passing your driving test - have to admit to giving up trying after 18mths
.
Blimus - well put. Great use of your mushroom bargain :T
Frith - good hear that your son only had an ear infection and nothing more sinister - having said that, they can be very nasty, so hope he recovers quickly. wtg to your mum on getting the accordion out - I think anybody who can play one of those MUST be talented - all those different hand movements at the same time PLUS opening/closing the darn thing - WORSE than patting your head/rubbing your tummy at the same time.
sparrer - sorry to hear about your car problems - but what great friends you've got :T - has to be a reflection of the esteem that they hold you in.
RAS - lol - know what you mean. There's what they teach you and THEN there's what you learn afterwards.
GingerSnap - sorry to hear that your OH has no work at the moment, but great that he can be there to ease the workload on you regarding the house - good for him :T.
dundeedoll - Brilliant :money: in Tescos there :T. And congrats on your 'kevin' going to bed without persuasion :j.
Mine for yesterday/today:
1. Staff meeting yesterday about how 'cuts' will affect us all - 100 job losses needed out of a workforce of 600 - but will be across the entire company. Hopefully some will be 'natural staff wastage' (ie - people leaving for other jobs), retirements (early or otherwise) and voluntary redundancies BEFORE people start to be 'pushed' - more news to come in December. Also having our Terms&Conditions changed, so a Union meeting in the offing as well.
2. Lovely porridge with golden syrup for brekkie (run out of honey lol) - payday next Monday :j.
3. Managed to do some more of my baby shawl for niece - really need to get this finished asap.
4. Visit from Mobile Library this afternoon. We've been worried about whether or not this service will survive the cuts, but looking positive at the moment. Possible that some of the smaller branch libraries will close, to be replaced by extending the Mobile Library Service :T.
5. Visit to Practice Nurse this evening for BP check up - not too bad but doctor not there to see about my chest infection. Nurse reckons it sounds as though the infection has gone, BUT I'm still coughing. She's advised to continue using the inhaler and book an apt for GP next week.
5. Sweet Chilli Turkey (using Turkey Mince) with pasta and garlic 6read for evening meal .
7. Had an email from an American relative of ex-OH about a family reunion to be held next year in Ruthin as that's where that branch of family are from. Not exactly of interest to ME but may be of interest to my kids and possibly their dad IF he can be bothered to go to it.
That's me done for tonight. Hope everybody has a good night's sleep - I'm about ready for my bed. Nitey nite all - love Ollie xxx0 -
5 for yesterday (Tuesday).
1) Bigger son getting better.
2) Popping to Sainsburys.
3) Sweeping the leaves up in the garden.
4) Getting the house shipshape.
5) MrN coming round. :-)
The day only slightly marred by the appearance of MrsN who decided to pop in to her former home and take some stuff away while MrN was at work.... :-O I was quite glad to have younger son with me when we bumped into each other outside the houses.0 -
Evening peeps.
I haven't had a great day today - my committee was even more yawnsome than I expected, and the free lunch turned out to be one round each of slightly stale, cheap sliced bread sandwiches. Yum, I don't think.
I'll try for five, though:
1) The sports team which came to do a presentation to the committee was entirely made up of easy-on-the-eye fellas. I'll take that as a minor consolation for the dullness of the meeting. :rotfl:
2) NSD.
3) The landlord's repair man phoned during the meeting, and when I phoned him back he was at lunch (typical!), but we finally got in touch with each other and he's coming round tomorrow to try and fix my leaky sink. Fingers crossed for no more washing up in the bath after tomorrow.
4) Not very OS, but I switched the heating on when I got home - naughty, but I was so chilly I couldn't face waiting three hours for it to come on as scheduled. Now I'm nice and warm.
5) Another freezer dinner tonight. The freezer's definitely starting to look emptier now.
Ollie - right, that's golden syrup on my shopping list for Friday.:D I haven't had porridge with golden syrup in ages, and I'll have to try it again now you've mentioned it. Good thinking on the Freegle breadmaker, too - I'd really like to get a brand new one in the new year sales, but a Freegle one could tide me over until then, and I can always put it back on there when I get my new one.
dundeedoll - - what a lot of bargains you got there! That's amazing going!
Have a pleasant evening, all.Back after a very long break!0
