  • Another easy five for today,
    1. Another lovely, morale boosting telephone conversation with yet another MSEr.
    2. Ironing done by 8am and went for a 3 mile run in the beautiful sunshine.
    3. DD1 & 2 just having a normal day and seeming settled.
    4. Leftover cottage pie for tea.
    5. DH came round this evening to stay with girls while I went to work. Couldn't help but smile when I looked at his glowing face knowing that it was down to the tan towels he got DD1 to buy him last week. He made her swear not to tell me. (whoops!) I'm sure he was wondering why I was smirking.
Going to finish watching Gavin and Stacy with DD2 then going to bed. Good night all. X
  • Ollie - thanks so much for your links. The how to make 'plarn' was just what I needed. I was really struggling trying to crochet with carrier bags earlier!! I'm going to give it another go tomorrow.
I had to laugh at your 'seeing off' the banana and date loaf!
Welcome Purple kitten and Introuble28 :hello:
sparrer - What a trying day. That's sooo annoying about your car.
niksyg - that's great news about your purse
Ampersand - thanks for putting up the Grayson Perry link. I will look forward to listening to that later.
kitchenbunny - sausage chilli sounds lovely. Could you post a recipe if you have one please?

I was absolutely floored this morning by a thread on this forum which had me in floods of tears so my number one is:
    1) I'm so thankful that all my family are healthy and happy. Money problems are something we can get over.
    2) A NSD.
    3) DH made some delicious lime curd in the slow cooker.
    4) Spent some of the morning finding and listening to songs from my youth on spotify.
    5) A lovely fire crackling away this evening. It's getting colder out!

My pleasures today are about moral support rather than money, but still OS because it proves there are still people who care about what others are dealing with today

    1. Got to my meeting at lunchtime, the story of the car had got there before me and one person, not knowing I wasn't in the car when it happened, immediately asked me if I was alright.

    2. One of the men tried to pull the wing forward as when I open the door the two rub together and make the most hideous sound. It's a little better now

    3. One of the ladies phoned her son, who's a mechanic, and he's going to put me in touch with a body repair person who won't rip me off. I'm to phone in the morning and he'll have a word with the repair person before I go for an estimate

    4. Another lady told us that when she and a friend were on their way to Gatwick two weeks ago to catch a plane for a holiday, someone knocked them off the road and her car is a write-off. It certainly puts things into perspective. Luckily the breakdown man called another one, and while one took the car to a garage the other took the ladies to the airport so they wouldn't miss their flight, and organised a courtesy car for their return. What amazing service! (It's good fortune I'm with the same rescue service, all very nice men who know me by my first name as I constantly lock myself out of my car :o)

    5. A friend is having huge difficulties with one of her (adult) children atm. I've spend a good 3 hours on the phone with her this evening, we had to keep redialling at 59 mins, which eventually made us laugh though goodness knows why, and she was much brighter when we did eventually say good night.

6.a little MS, it was a nsd ;)

Night night, sleep tight (((hugs))) for everyone who needs or just wants one

I don't know which day I'm up to on here so I shall do 5 for today (Sunday).

    1) Did little jobs around the house - brought more logs in, did washing etc.

    2) Listened to some of Desert Island Disks and the Unbelievable Truth on radio 4.

    3) Took MrN's dogs for a long walk for him.

    4) Made a date and walnut cake, its about the only recipe I have that ALWAYS comes out really well.

    5) Advertised a lot of my sister's things on Freecycle (she is moving) and everything was snapped up and collected this afternoon so she was pleased with that.

    6) Power cut from about 5.30 - 8pm. We do get a few and its been quite windy. I was playing the piano when it went off so just carried on in the dark! Then sons came home from their father's at 6.30 and we played Uno by candlelight (rather difficult when you can't see the colour of the cards) followed by chess. We don't have central heating so were OK by the stove.

    7) MrN came round :-)

Worringly, bigger son is ill. :-( They are NEVER ill. Smaller son has had 2 years at school with 100% attendance (and he's only in year 3!) so I always feel unprepared and have to find the Calpol and make sure it's still in date. Anyway, bigger son said he had a bit of a sore throat when we were playing chess but he has a ridiculously high pain threshold so I think it might be quite nasty. He suddenly lurched into the living room about half an hour back and looked at me and MrN and came out with a lot of very strange stuff and was delirious so has gone back to bed after the maximum dose of Calpol. He asked me "Why are you up so early?" :-D

Its still blowing a gale here so I shall go to bed now (rolling smaller son to the far side). Have my hot water bottle and hot chocolate and will find something nice to listen to on iplayer. Don't feel as rubbish as I have the last few days.

P.S Ampersand - thank you for the message, will reply tomorrow children permitting.

    4. researched prices for car service
    5. put my first order into halfcost.co.uk (using discount code) for a load of bits and pieces for Christmas and birthdays

Morning everybody  - have just put the rubbish and food waste recycling bins out - lousy morning here today - wet, windy and cold brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I've got all out of synch with the posts.

Notice that we've got a couple of newcomers with us - :hello: to Introuble and LaCara - grab a cup/mug/glass of whatever you fancy and make yourselves comfy - lots of good reading ahead of you girls :D.

missmoneywave - have you tried putting an old stuffed toy in with your new pooch or something with your scent on - he may find it company for him. When we had our German Shepherd pup, I remember a training manual stating that it takes around 3nights to get them accustomed to sleeping alone - apparently that's the length of time that it takes for them 'to get the message' that whining ain't going to work. Good luck with him - I know it's hard to hear that pathetic whining and NOT go to him, almost like hearing a baby cry and worrying if it's disturbing the neighbours.
Frith - Hope all's well with ds1 and that it was just confusion with waking up suddenly - could wind/rain have disturbed his sleep and left him disorientated.

Well done everybody on your old-style commitments over the weekend - mine for the weekend:

    1. didn't actually get to collect dgd2 for the weekend - she fell asleep just as I was going to pick her up, so decided to leave her altogether. dgs1 went to the Rail Museum in York with dd's b/f - he gives him better attention than his father does - so much more patience, which is exactly what he needs.

    2. Visit to Ethel Austin's (in process of closing down) and got a pair of pj's for dgd1 for Xmas and a pack of 4prs briefs for me - total £10. Assistant gave me a £2 off £10 spend voucher, so got £2 change :j.

    3. Favourite charity shop for a mooch but no bargains for ME this weekend :( - did have delicious fairtrade Americano Coffee (£1.25) but gave them the £2 change, as that's what it would have cost me in Costa/Starbucks/Nero.

    4. Visit to Asda for a whoopsie hunt - RESULT! Some great bargains (Thorntons cakes JUST being yellow-stickered for third time :T) and rollbacks :j AND their magazine was instore. Love it for the recipes.

    5. Sunday - put Lamb Stew in SC - (SmartPrice Lamb stewing pieces (£3) with soup&broth mix, carrots, celery, swede, leeks, mixed herbs and stock.) Leftovers allowed to cool overnight and portioned up for freezer :j.

    6. Went to dd's for the day - good time with her and the kids. Sat chatting while I plucked dd's eyebrows for her - no intention of leaving my tweezers there as they'd disappear into that deep dark black hole that everything else falls into :rotfl:. Did jigsaws with kids while dd cooked their tea - turned it into a bit of a competition by hiding the last piece up my sleeve :o. dgd2 (age JUST 3) copied me the next time - she learns quick ;). Sat with dgs1 finishing off his homework for a while before coming home.

    7. Lovely to hear them all laughing as I was leaving to come home - so often there's some kind of argument with dgs1 at the centre of things, but NOT last night :T.

Those will have to do for now - need to get off and start work for the day. speak again later - love Ollie xxx

Edited to add - 8. Have got Carrot&Swede bubbling away on cooker at the moment - this is for freezing for Christmas food stash - one pan less for Christmas Day :j!!!!
  • Hi missmoneysave.I've never had a dog,but have read that if you put a small clock which ticks loudly under a layer of bedding,it mimics the sound of a heartbeat, and the puppy finds it reassuring (thus helping him to settle).

What breed is the wee chap?

    TC.
  • Ladyhawk, thanks for the advice re the pet forum, didn't even know there was one!

Olliebeak, we put a stuffed smurf toy in and my jumper last night and he slept better.

marmiterulesok, He's a staffy.I think we're going to try the clock or a radio idea when we leave house in day especially.

He's only been left alone at night because I've been home all day since we got him (3 days ago) and I think he has seperation anxiety. He follows me round and sits really close. I'm going to have to toughen up and try putting abit of distance between us. I will try venturing out and leaving him for a short while tomorrow. It's early days and he has plenty of time to learn and he is picking up going outside to the toilet exceptionally well so I can't complain. He just sounds so sad when he whines, think it may be me what needs some training!
Thanks for all your advice, will be back later to post my five.

    Evening all.

Please excuse me if this is a bit short and sweet tonight but I'm at least half, and possibly nearer three quarters, asleep - I was woken up in the early hours of this morning when a bucket which I thought I'd stored in a sheltered spot was picked up by a gust of wind and came flying across the garden to crash into my bedroom window. Amazingly the window wasn't damaged, but it wasn't the nicest way to wake up and spelt the end of my night's sleep. :(

    Pleasures for yesterday:

    1) A lie-in.

    2) Chatted to my mum on the phone, which was a pleasure in itself, but I also found that, without knowing it, I'd picked up a vital clue for her family history research. I felt quite pleased with myself, despite the fact I hadn't actually done anything.

    3) Watching the grand prix with a lap full of cat.

    4) The seal round the plughole in my kitchen sink suddenly died - while the sink was full of water, natch - which made a horrendous mess. :( The pleasure is that, as I rent the flat, it will be up to my landlord to get it fixed. :)

    5) Went to the pub quiz in the evening, which was great fun even though we didn't win (or indeed come anywhere near winning :o:p).

    And for today:

    1) I didn't get that horrible being-woken-up-by-an-alarm thing this morning, as I'd already been awake for hours. (OK, that's stretching the term 'pleasure', I know, but it is Monday! ;))

    2) Treated myself to a very un-OS lunch of a hot sausage roll and soup from Greggs. It goes against all my OS principles, but sometimes only a cheap sausage roll and a cup of Heinz tomato soup will do. (I know that makes me sound like an advert, for which I apologise. :o)

    3) Putting the breadmaker on when I got home - a perennial pleasure (although possibly not for much longer as it's starting to show its age and I won't be able to afford a new one until the new year :().

    4) Lazy dinner tonight as I can have the risotto I defrosted for last night's dinner then wasn't hungry enough to eat.

    5) The prospect of a glass of wine, then an early night. I hate to wish my day away, but roll on bedtime!

    Have a lovely evening, all.
Back after a very long break!
