  • Excuse me for posting two days in a row but it's been such a lovely weekend so far ...

    Friday

    1) The bee lady that I share the allotment with managed to get some Council people to come and cut down all the conifers and take away all the rubbish on our allotment simply by fluttering her eyelashes and looking helpless. (She is very pretty and charming) Nobody else, even the Parish Council, has been able to manage this.
    2) Met a friend in our local coffee shop. I had a feeling she would be late so I took my essay and managed to get quite a bit done before she arrived.
    3) Huge bunch of flowers from DH. So big that I had to nip into town to buy an enormous vase. Luckily, it was only £6.99.
    4) Meal in for our 22nd Wedding Anniversary, with a log fire in the living room and a bottle of wine to go with it.

    Saturday

    1) A lie in.
    2) Instead of going out for breakfast, we had bacon, last night's left over creamy potatoes, and beans.
    3) A lovely walk at a local beauty spot and a pot of tea for two at one of the picnic tables outside the cafe, watching the ducks picking up scraps.
    4) My £1.50 chicken went in the oven with some veggies and the rest of the wine from last night and some jacket potatoes. DD and bf arrived, DS and gf arrived separately and we had a nice family meal, with left overs and some stock for a risotto. I love chicken.
    5) Sitting here with a bar of Divine chocolate. I won't eat it all but it is Saturday.
  • big hugs to all the poorlies and all those having a tough time at the moment xx

    3. will be getting my own laptop soon so wont have to beg to use hubbys work one :j

    4. watching Matt on X Factor - wow what a voice :happyhear

Well, I'll bash out a few things before bed and book. I have now caught up with everyone's posts[despite putah crashing twice more, so empathise with those of you who've had same probs, repeatedly.]
    Thankyou Tealady - truly, thankyou.

    1. Thoroughly enjoying hearing Grayson Perry travelling with Alan Measles again, R4 right now, if you're up.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00vkw55/Grayson_on_His_Bike/

    What a bike! / Man! / Person! / Potter! / Thinker! / Artist! / Commentator / Wise One!
-in the broad line of Brian Sewell.
I will not garnish each with the now tiring sounbriquet of 'national treasure'[although they both are.]
    2. Big day at Charity showroom again. Did well, despite adjacent-ish car boot having finished for winter last week. More peeps arrived later. Florentine squares for baking today. As usual, managed 1cm of coffee[several times zapped in m/w]between 7>15h...busy. It's become a bit of a joke. now.
Left mob there....again, but not too dire as we're putting in an extra non-trading sort-out day on Monday before opening again on Tuesday.
    3. Friday's weather meant no visible fireworks around here, but they were starting on the way back tonight - YEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
    4. That hour less seems more noticeable than 60 minutes fewer in daylight, but gave a rather delicious feeling walk in un-cold, tossing, wild wind on Thursday evening
    - 'twas good.
    5. A Friday afternoon walk to village PO[with annoying £7 cheque for replacement tax disc]was in the softest, mistiest mild rain - differently lovely and still good.
    6. Glad others feel same about Journo Strike-improved Radio.
    7. Tail-end of All Blacks beating England 26-16 on car radio - and a pack of Mr T's finest all-butter croissants were down to 50p[from £2]on garage counter. Splendid coincidence.
    8. Sudden peckishness, so intend having a Little Something, comme Pooh Bear, as I enjoy more of Rory McGrath's surprisingly good 'Bearded Tit' - another recommendation.
    9. Swapped Grauniad for the right-ish DT today...all for another £5 Boots freebie voucher[Oh, so shallow! What price my prized sense of personal Loyalty now? £5, it appears...] Shall enjoy my slow perusal/choice. Always do[and still one Debenham's £5 left].

Bon matin à tout et à tous - with Welcomes to so many newbies.
To those of you newbies who report coin finds - we know them as Reverbe's:T, for one of this Thread's special posters. Hope all is well with you, reverbe - nothing heard since things were becoming more difficult for you. You know the collective presence has its aura sensors out and around you.:)

    Hi All

    My five for yesterday are

    1. Finishing my book which I hadn't read before. I am rereading my books before deciding whether to keep or to declutter.
It will take a time as I do hoard books.

    2. Only buying whats on my list when I went shopping.

    3. Seeing a couple of friends for a quick chat while collecting DS2.

    4. Watching a great firework display from the car.

    5. A lovely walk with the dog.
  • Good morning all. Had a really good sleep last night - first time for ages. I think this was aided by a very theraputic telephone conversation with someone from this thread. Can't believe it went on for two hours! Anyway, a much better day yesterday so my pleasures come easy,
    1. A beautiful sunny day. Really enjoyed walking the dog today.
    2. Did my errands up town to find DD2 had made some gorgeous biscuits when I got home.
    3. Managed to turn off outside tap (with some phone instruction from my brother in law) ready for the frost arriving. Another skill to add to the collection!
    4. A lovely telephone conversation with another OSer.
    5. Getting an impromtu invitation to a bonfire and fireworks in a friends garden. I had two glasses of mulled wine. Yum.
Frith, Hope things work out for you. Sorry you had a a rough day.
Sparrer, Wow, what a day you had. You should be sainted for coping with all that. I think I would have gone into meltdown.
    Dundeedoll, love the cat.
Have a great day everyone. X

dundeedoll - I have sold LOADS of stuff on ebay as a private seller....and I found it all pretty easy to do. I think though it's good to have someone sit down with you and go through it all. Is there anyone you know who sells on ebay who could maybe spend a bit of time going through all the parts of selling?

ampersand did you here the debate on yesterday's Today programme about how people felt about the schedule change - rather interesting!

No, all day spent at ton-up speed[hmmm - reminder of moto gp, last race - today. Such a surprise to most, esp. those who know Classics moi]in Charity Showroom AND Today prog. embodies my dislike. Prefer to avoid.
Sadly, I'm finding even DAB R7 thin atm - no Garrison Keillor, over abundant sci-fi:(, scheduling bands not fitting my moods.
That said, there's just been a wonderful choral piece on R4.

    Yesterday & this morning:

    1. Lovely walk in our local beech woods. So many families and dog walkers out there enjoying the Autumn leaves and the sound of scuffling through them in Wellies. Reminded me of doing that in my childhood.
    2. Getting another load of laundry done.
    3. Finding that my Quicken money record actually reconciled with my bank statement first time - a rare event; I always forget to update something.
    4. Another bag of strawberries out of the freezer this morning to make a strawberry fruit jelly for lunch. Sometimes our garage freezer seems as it it will never get run down, no matter how much stuff we take out of it.
    5. Looking forward to catching up with a friend this afternoon.

And one extra for good luck: Watching a green parakeet feeding on one of our peanut cages this morning. We often hear them screeching as they fly overhead but they rarely seem to come down into the gardens, being high tree dwellers. They're such a bright green colour that they're quite startling to watch.
