5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2
Comments
-
Morning everybody :hello: - and for once it's a beautiful one - sun is shining and it's rather mild at the moment. I believe that the temps are due to drop tonight - but isn't that just what happens when the cloud-cover goes!
sparrer - what a rotten day you had - wd you for keeping a 'sense of humour' about it all. Hope you manage to get the dent in your car sorted without too much cost. Was there any CCTV in the area where it happened? Any chance at all of finding out who was responsible?
CCP and dundeedoll - many thanks for your words - marzipan in it's 'own state' isn't exactly my thing, but I love a bit of it underneath icing. Years ago I had a 'little old lady' tenant who lived a very sparse lifestyle - so sparse she would buy a quarter of boiled ham and a box of French Fancies and make them last her nearly a week. She once mentioned that, as a little girl, she loved being given marzipan trimmings by her mother when she baked Christmas Cake - so I bought her a pack of marzipan fruits for Christmas. The look on her face was reward in itself.
Just going to go and make a start on my Banana&Date Loaf - will pop back in again later and see how folks are doing today.
Hope you all have a great OS day - oooooooo I'd better get a washload on and not waste this beautiful sunshine either - busy, busy, busy- love Ollie xxx

SPARRER - well done on being positive and looking at the best of a bad situation. It is always so easy to become negative and then even more seems to go wrong.
1. Still listing things on ebay - I have enough clutter to keep me going for months I think but things are selling and its a nice bit of money coming in which is needed.
2. A coffee and a chat with a friend and also met friend of DS1 who stopped and talked so caught up with his news. A lovely teenager who talks.
3. Found 1p.
4. Toad in the hole for tea - sausages found in freezer and eggs needed eating.
5.Managed to get shower curtain looking like new with bleach and a hot wash. I did think I would need a new one but thankfully I don't.0 -
5 for Friday, if that's possible. :-( Felt rubbish all day.
1) Got boys to school on time and happy-ish.
2) Cleaned living room and bathroom.
3) Had tea made by MrN.
4) Took smaller son to Beavers. This can be a pleasure because the Beaver leaders are so good with him. But it was not a pleasure in the efforts it took me simply to get him through the door. Then he ran away and sat in the car and I thought I would let him sit there for 5 minutes. Some of his school friend Beavers ran down to say hello to him and he locked all the doors and spoke to them through the window. Then some passing man thought he had locked himself in the car and tried to talk him out! So I had to run to the car and me and man had the weirdest conversation all at cross purposes. He said, "This little boy has got himself locked in the car" so I said, "Yes, he has locked the doors" and the man continued to say "Wind the window down, sonny" and I said "No, he WANTS to be locked in the car...." and it all got very confusing!
5) MrN came round. I don't know what is happening there and am tiring myself out thinking about it. I don't want to be pushy and question him as to his intentions. He is tired and stressed and I am partly insane. I don't know what he wants, now or in the long term. :-( I don't even know if I am his girlfriend, really. I don't know if he has told anyone! He would quite like to move (not far, I don't think) and I know that would be the end of any relationship because the only way it works is that his house is 2 metres from mine. We literally would not see each other at all if he moved. With his job, our massive amounts of children etc, I know the effort involved even to meet up once a week would be immense. I don't want to go from a cup of tea at the end of each evening to meeting once a week anyway. But he seems very blase about it and looking forward to going. I don't know.0 -
Hi all
Ollie thanks for the patterns, I am definitely going to give an umigurumi a go (sooner or later, when I no longer have too many work-in-progress crafts!).
Purple kitten welcome to the thread!
Off to do things now, see you all later for pleasures report! x
Sparrer, add another pleasure, the Underground line you need is not having works (I have pmd you!). Well done for finding the silver clouds in a difficult day! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Evening all, from a somewhat grumpy CCP (see 'pleasure' 4).
1) Woke up at a fairly sensible time this morning but didn't feel like getting up, so I laid in bed for an hour or so cuddling the cat.
2) Mooched into the city centre along the seafront. The sky looked a bit threatening, but it didn't rain until after I got home. I did a Reverbe and found a penny on the way, too.
3) Bought a new pair of trousers for work (which I urgently needed) using a voucher I got for doing surveys. :money: I also treated myself to an M&S prawn sarnie for lunch, which was decidely non-OS.But tasty.
4) Planned to go up to my local pub to watch the Portsmouth match, which is, very unusually, on television this evening. The pub was so packed I couldn't even get in through the door, though, so I'm back at home listening to the football on the radio.Pleasure - at least I've saved some money by not buying drinks at pub prices.
5) As I was expecting to be back later this evening I got my dinner ready earlier today so all I need to do is stick it in the oven when I want to eat. It's aubergine parmigiana.*****************Frith - hugs to you - I hope you're feeling better about things today, and that you get things sorted out with Mr N.
sparrer - hugs to you, too - that really was quite a day you had yesterday! I hope today treated you better.
Ollie - you're so lucky having that view, particularly at this time of year. The only thing I dislike about my flat is that it's a ground floor flat surrounded by buildings, so I can't see any fireworks from home.
katholicos - it's lovely to know you're still around. Please come back and post anytime you feel like it.
Purple kitten - welcome to the thread. :hello: Good luck with the interviews next week - I've got my fingers crossed for you.
Have a lovely evening, all - I must go back to the radio as the second half's about to start.
Play up Pompey!Back after a very long break!0 -
Dundeedoll Thank you so much for your lovely comments. Yes, we went to The Quays in Gloucester. Its very relaxing to walk around if you can in the week or in the evenings, beautiful marbled floors and very new and gleaming. OH says the shops are mainly designer clothing ones he would never go into, but I find it quite good. There is a M and S outlet, a Next (though I never seem to find anything in there TBH), a great Gap outlet, a White Company, a Villeroy and Boch china shop for indulgent purchases (!!), a kitchen shop, a furniture and homeware shop and lots of other clothing stores...I know there is more info online if you want. Parking seems quite cheap and the Quays is opposite the Peel (Peal) complex with Cineworld Cinema and restaurants so you could always combine one of those for a full day out...
If you wait until after 6pm to buy your items you can get an extra 10% off too.
Caterina Aren't you lucky having offspring to make you such a gorgeous sounding tea- please could you give me details on how to make the romanesco broccoli with pasta and the fennel salad. Sounds just my kind of thing! Yummy!!!
Missmoneysave Your puppy sounds so gorgeous!!!! I want one.Wish I wasn't allergic to dogs, you will have to give Ian a big hug for me.
Purple kitten Welcome! Lovely to have you on board. I'm glad the hospital visit went well and you enjoyed the free fireworks.
Sparrer OM goodness! WHAT a day- hope today has been a lot better for you.
CCP Hope your team win anyway, even tho you can't be in the pub cheering them on!
Am going out in a mo with OH and the kids to watch fireworks from a local very high viewpoint. Hope it will be beautiful as well as free!
Just wanted to read others posts before I went to save a bit of time later...will post my 5 when i get back if X Factor allows..!0 -
Thank you for the warm welcomes
My five for today are:
1 Made toad in the hole for dinner – warm winter comfort food.
2. 5 loads later and I’m up to date on the washing.
3. As it was beautiful weather, washed, waxed and winterised the car.
4. Relaxing mindlessly watching Harry Potter on Sky.
5. Took a lovely walk in the autum sun to pick up the starter motor this morning and it wasn’t as bad as we thought to fit yippee.
Have a lovely evening all.0 -
PS: Frith Really sorry you are feeling rubbish today. I felt for you reading about your little boy locking himself in the car and the resultant confusion with the man trying to "help". Also it must be so difficult maintaining a good relationship with Mr.N. Fingers crossed you manage to work something out if he moves away (or even if he doesn't...)0

Evening all,
I have been very lazy today and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to having a few days off work next week...:j
Frith - sorry to hear that you are having a tough few days.
Ginger - hope you enjoyed the fireworks with the family
CCP - well done on looking at the bright side of the pub being packed:beer:
Village life - WD on the decluttering. I wish I could do more of it!
Ollie - I hope the sunshine persisted! How did the banana and date loaf come out?
1) Started getting myself ready to make my quilt. I am sure it won't be very good but at least Iam learning a new skill and hopefully it will be good practice for th one I want to make for my new neice or nephew.
2) Finally getting to grips with the quinces I was given. They smell wonderful as they are simmering on the stove. Thanks for the recipe Caterina... I also picked some apples the other day so the next batch are going to be apple and quince jam.
3) Put a request on freecycle for a sewing machine and have been offered 3!! I didn't think I would get any offers.
4) Watching the rugby on TV.
5) NSD:dance:
I hope you are all have a fab day.
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
