Good Morning all  - oooo another very cold one again here, but doesn't look like rain at the moment.

Frith - good to hear that ds1 is on the mend at last :).
CCP - I only use the cheapest Golden Syrup (SmartPrice ;)) that I can get my hands on - comes in handy for making Twinks as well as porridge. Shame about the 'manky sandwiches' - looks like the 'cutbacks' are beginning to bite where you work as well. Good to know that I'm not the only one who 'fast-forwards' the heating :o.
dundeedoll - Hope you had a great pamper evening and enjoy your day in LeamingtonSpa - lucky you! lol at your 'kevin' - I've got a female version in the guise of dgd1 - everything's 'Not Fair!'.
Blimus - what a fabulous journey home :) and wd you on getting rid of an unnecessary monthly expense :T.
Ladyhawk - best of luck 'chasing your demons' - you're getting more positive and stronger all the time, I'm sure they'll run a mile when you stand up to them and tell them 'begone'!
Tealady - wow very busy evening you've had - great idea to take a cuppa for while waiting for the train.
frugalpam - good to hear that your cat is now recovered and back to greeting you. wtg on your diet success and now needing smaller clothes :T.
sparrer - very kind of your postie to bring you all those lovely things :j. Great news on your railfare bargain :D. Hope you get the lever taps sorted out soon and that they can find some other things to help you.
villagelife - lol at the owl watching you walking your dog - must have sounded like it was saying 'hellooooo you twoooooooo!' Love the sound of them - so comforting.
Kitchenbunny - hope you enjoy your trip at the weekend - who is it that you're going to see?
Ginger Snap - great to know that your tutoring was appreciated :T. wd on your local walk - always good to explore different places on our own doorsteps.

    Mine for yesterday:

    1. Good to hear dd talking positively about tackling her debt situation at long last - though it's a hard thing to do with Christmas looming so close and three children to deal with.

    2. Half-day training course in work 'Understanding and Complying with the Data Protection Act' - made very interesting by a great tutor. Hope I'm not guilty of some of the scenarios in the short, but very amusing, film clip :o.

    3. Needed some fresh milk, so called at a local shop on the way home, surprised to find they were cheaper than Mr A - so bought 2 :j!

    4. Home-made Pea&Ham Soup with crusty bread for evening meal - followed later by pack of crisps and a crunchie bar :o.

    5. Sat under a fleece blanket and watched tv all evening - talk about 'slobbing out' - didn't even enter my head to use the time to get on with my knitting .

    6. 2 loads of laundry done in the morning and towels actually dried on the line during the day - OH managed to remember to bring them in BEFORE it got too dark and they got damp again with night air.

That's mine for now - need to go and get in the shower before the heating goes off, or it's a cold bathroom brrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Hope everybody has a great OS day - love Ollie xxx

    Hi all

A quick good morning and am off because at work, will post later!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • I've had a very busy couple of days at work so didn't manage to post yesterday. I'm not complaining though - all extra bit of money for Christmas. Been up and down lately, more ups than downs thank goodness. DD1 seems to be suffering most at the moment. She is struggling at school and with certain friendships and guess who bears her wrath! Had some lovely conversations recently with old friends and new. Lots of support. Here are mine for yesterday,
    1. Reading this thread, as always. What wonderful people are out there. It really does restore faith in human nature.
    2. Getting in back in contact with a old friend thanks to facebook. I lost touch with her when she moved away two years ago and my mobile phone died overnight losing all my numbers.
    3. A nice long walk in the sunshine with my dog. Saw some squirrels playing.
    4. Feeling able to apply for a new job. I fancy a change.
    5. One of my clients giving me a small bottle of wine to 'try'. I think she just wanted to cheer me up.
Will hopefully be back later with my pleasures for today.
Dundeedoll, I like the idea of pampering. I think I may do it myself this evening. Love to all. X

Busy few days so just catching up:

    1. Attending interesting talk at one of our local organisations.
    2. Realising that over the past few days we've eaten almost entirely out of the freezer, storecupboard, or vegetable patch which always makes me feel we're doing our self-sufficiency bit.
    3. Resisting putting the heating on as much as possible and resorting to to extra layers of clothing.
    4. Watching the howling wind and rain lashing against the window and feeling thankful to be indoors, with a roof over my head instead of a canvas tent or refugee iron shack.
    5. Thrilled that a green parakeet has visited our peanut cages almost every day this week. Just hope he doesn't bring all his mates or our housekeeping bills for bird food will rise dramatically!

    [STRIKE]
    Good
[/STRIKE]Morning all[not a conventional 'Good' morning at all]
Foul outside, wild, stormy, lashing rain...and into it I trotted for Gym. Week 20 now, Mon + Thurs.

    1. On slidey way back, fell in the mud, so shower felt extra good. Demudded clothes now in machine; trainers scrubbed down and drying.
    2. Have pretty much decided to treat self to i/net android phone using Mr T's double-up vouchers, offset by CC+ extra points and Dbl Pts, with some other sweeteners, all before the redemption rate drops by a quarter on 6 December. The new page which allows one to reconcile Vouchers issued/used is a real asset. Log in to 'tesco.com'>'Clubcard'>Left hand column has 'My Account' in red banner>4th sub-heading is 'Your Vouchers'. I printed out my list and went through them - had over £100 more than I'd realised, so £313.50 X 4 to play with - if I trade them all by 6 December.[ Will prob. hold some back.] Present abacaus-equivalent style phone has developed crack in screen and never has worked completely, since purchase from Mr T 3 years ago[after theft from locked car of much I still can't re-visit]. Their only way of overcoming fault was for me to lose everything that was on there - not an option and it was the 5th one I'd had, all 4 previous choices being faulty...they assured me I just seemed to have bad luck, but it made me feel ill-fone-fated.
    3. RHS Membership[another Mr T redemption]arrived yesterday. More escapes on tap.
    4. Advice re:Winter Fuel Allowance en route[est.<3wks]SOOOO Welcome. I really feared this toxic lot would ditch it.
    5. Antiques Roadshow[what's with the Unshaven look of David Battie?] on i-player, snuggly in bed with hottie and more good reading; 'Trollope in Australia' and 'Short Walks in Shangri-La'[Peter Francis Browne], with Larkin and Byron again.
    6. em from D, safe back in Oz.
    7. Pausing now for 11h,11/11....and now seated again....won't start on the perpetual self-interrogation on why/why/why, given my credentials as rabid Leftie to the right of Attilla the Hun[as late beloved R. would have it]and hating passionately the whole Anzac Day rigmarole of NZ childhood.
In the end, it's something to do with the haplessness and hopelessness of the human state that conflates cannon fodder, courage, farce, evil, pragmatism, principle, integrity, corruption, love, politicism, chance, extraordinary heroism, into all that we are and ever have been, and that every indvidual ever caught under arms is, finally, un être. It tears me up. Enough.
8.While consuming coffee just now, saw one robin braving the vile stuff. Little wing feathers and tail being blown backwards as he tried balancing on my bike pedal. Not much steadier on rain butt edge either and THAT is overflowing. Went out with seedy crusts cut up, rice bubble things and cast some handfuls of seed. No birds are eating the peanuts from the feeder, don't know why. Jays are enjoying them from ground.
    9. As I type this, I am frozen, despite gym, despite shower, despite a coffee just now with - sod it, refuse to care - a warmed croissant with dabs of choc. spread, which I have never liked and have very recently had urge for:o.
    10.AND have put heating on.
    ########
Have to get to 3 different towns today[unlikely to succeeed]but will anticipate warm return.
....wishing everyone snug hands around hot drink mugs, workplace harmony, safe journeys.
    #########
Have just seen your post Primrose and thought a couple of 'Yes'-es. Was surprised to find 'No Mince! Shock/Horror' in freezer, when I'd thought to do Nursery M as slow cooker lunch at Charity Showroom earlier in week.
Know how you feel re:birdie greed vs budget, too. Here, it seems worst when Big Boy comes with his wimmin. Wonder how a.n.other young mser moneywaster is getting on?[I see we lurk on occasion - a good young fella.]

  • Good evening.

    Mine for today (day off):

    1 I really,really didn't want to,but went out for a run,despite the windy conditions.Ran for 3 miles;pretty good considering I'd only meant to do 2 miles.THEN I did my stretching exercises -almost unheard of!

2 A NSD.Very good,as I've only got 10 francs to last me til Monday (determined to stick to budget this month).

3 The company of my wee cat,who loves to curl up on my lap, laying under a layer of the blanket. And the proopy sigh of contentment she gives,as she settles down to sleep.

4 Reading my book instead of putting the telly on.

5 Watching the birds feeding on the balcony. They're endlessly fascinating.

ampersand I've put out fat balls and peanuts recently for the birds, and for the first few days,no birds fed there. They're starting to come now,but not many.Sometimes it takes a few days.Or maybe the area where you've put the feed is just too windy for them?

kitchenbunny congratulations on passing your driving test!

dundeedoll thanks for the photo of your cat.He looks very majestic.Bar the white my cat has similar markings.

Ladyhawk sorry to read about your work colleague and her news.Good that you were able to have a chat.

Have a good evening.I'm off to make a big pot of veg and lentil soup.
  • I've had a very trying day today but here are my five,
    1. Finished work until Sunday
    2. Chocolate and 1 glass of wine. (please note dundeedoll !)
    3. A lovely hot shower, hair done and nails polished.
    4. Phone call with friend I had lost touch with.
    5. Weather dreadful this evening but I am safe and warm in my house.
Love to all. Keep safe on this horrid night. X

Evening all. I hope everyone's OK on another foul, windy, rainy night. :(

I'm really not sure I can find five pleasures as it's been a lousy day today - my only watch has broken; I had a close encounter of the flying-roof-tile kind coming home at lunchtime to let in the plumber, who then didn't turn up ; the work computers have been playing up all day; and my attempts at making macaroni cheese to cheer myself up have failed miserably - my white sauce is just lumps of soggy flour floating in hot milk, I scalded myself draining the pasta, and then found I had hardly any cheese left.

    But I can try:

    1) Porridge with spiced stewed plums for breakfast - just right for a miserable morning.

    2) The flying tiles missed me and my car, although not by much.

    3) I'm safe inside, away from the wind and the rain, with my puddy tat safely with me. (I had a note through my door from someone who's lost their cat, so that's definitely something to be grateful for.)

    4) Central heating. A fine invention. :)

    5) Friday tomorrow. :j

That wasn't bad after all. ;) Stay safe, all.
Back after a very long break!

    Evening everyone
Brrrrr - winter's here with a vengeance! I can hear the wind howling and I think my dustbin's done a runner down the drive judging by the loud clang
I'm struggling today to think of 5 pleasures - but I'll have a go....
    1) Nice tidy house:
I'd had a good tidy and hoover round and prepared a lovely casserole ready for my brother's visit today. I texted him last night to check what time he was coming over - no reply. Phoned him mid morning to check what was happening - phone switched off. I then texted another family member to find out if he'd set off. He rang 5 minutes later - he'd gone off to stay at his daughters and hadnt bothered to even let me know. I was furious and upset. Lots more - but this isn't the time or place.
    2) Went off for a bit of retail therapy - did get a few inexpensive bits for my card making which I was really pleased with.
    3) No work today!
    4) Lovely tea and going to stay within my WW points today
    5) Nice and cosy and warm - going to enjoy some tv tonight, with puddy cat curled up on my knee

    Hope everyone is ok,
    Pam x

PS Sorry you've not had a good day either CCP, but like me, realising there were some pleasurable bits makes things feel better

    Evening

    Pleasures for today:
    1. Hearing from a director that he someone had given him some really positive feedback about me to do with the project I am working on. Really good to hear as have felt things have been out of control with work at the moment.
    2. Cup of tea again at the station on a wet and windy morning, simple pleasures are sometimes the best
    3. Not MSE or OS but bought a takeaway for dinner on the way home tonight. Felt we all deseved one and was really enjoyed by all.
    4. Getting an email from Innocent today to say I have won a lunch for my office on Monday. They are delivering lunch for 15 people. It really made me smile when the email came through as I was having a bit of a melt down at that point.
    5. Its Friday tomorrow and being able to work in my local office which is a 20 min walk from home.:j:j:j

Hugs to all who need them
