    5 for yesterday (Friday).

    1) Went into Ludlow and did the 2nd hand shops. Got some walking boots (£5) and a winter coat - finally! Also a CD.

    2) My sister had her wisdom tooth out (an operation and she had an abcess) and it went really well and she feels much better now and had no side effects from the anaesthetic.

    3) Took smaller son to Beavers and he settled much better. He told me and bigger son to stay in the car so we got colder and colder and listened to the Archers!

    4) Pretty much on top of the housework.

    5) MrN fell asleep (at home) so came round but not for long.

This morning has been rubbish so far. Have had a letter about the amount HSBC owe me and they need another bloomin signature from the ex! I had to get a judge to persaude him to sign off the last form so I can't see that happening again. :-( Also a letter from NPower because I owe them a bit and they've suggested a most ridiculous repayment amount that I can't possibly manage. And a 3rd letter about bigger son's ears putting his hearing test back by 2 months!

Going to make a nice brunch now.
  • Savingforoz - brilliant to hear from you and hearing about your adventures. So exciting! Glad you are having a fab time. :j
missmoneysave and ccp - would one of you mind pm'ing me the details of the shop & scan thing as I would love to see if I could join.
Caterina - :T for your amazing kids :)

Savingforoz's post has got me thinking about our Mexican adventure and all the amazing places, people and experiences we saw/met/had. Would love to travel some more one day when (not if) we get financially sorted. :)

    Here are mine from yesterday:
    1) DS's did really well with their Spanish lessons. DS1 is very confident speaking in another language - wish I had his confidence. I always feel silly speaking another language which really hampers learning progress :o
    2) Finally finished my very large library book - now I can make a start on the big pile that's been waiting for the past few weeks.
    3) Got lots of jobs on my 'to do' list crossed off.
    4) DH's famed cheesy spaghetti for tea.
    5) Watching a Zombie drama with DH. Can't remember what it's called but it's got the fab Andrew Lincoln in (with Georgian accent). It's really good!

    Have a great weekend everyone!

    Hi all

Kitchenbunny, re. takeaways: now that I shall not bring extra money into the household I shall reinstate the "curry box", a jar where everybody who has some spare change puts it in there and when it reaches approximately £12 or so we all have a takeaway. Our local Indian does very good, quite large portions of side veg and £12 buys 4 of those, which we share among 4 (or 5 when DD's BF is here too). We cook the rice ourselves to save money. So with a bit of prudent saving we usually manage to have takeaways a couple of times a month with no pressure on the budget.

Thank you very much Blimus for your kind words about my kids!

I am just back from the OS meet so I am brimming with pleasures and here they are:

1 - Meeting up with Sparrer first thing! We recognised each other on the spot in the middle of M&S - the funny thing is that I doubted it because for some reason I had imagined her to be Chinese! WE had a good laugh.

2 - Tea in M&S with Sparrer using the free drinks vouchers. Minihauk joined us a bit later.

3 - Fish and chips with Sparrer, Minihauk and Purpleclutterbuck, who joined us at the fish and chips restaurant. We all loved the meal.

4 - After lunch we moved to the cafe and met up with JackieO and Annie123. Had lots of tea and cake and a mini-craft session, as well as a great time and lots of chatting and swapping stories and ideas. Thank you ladies for a lovely day out!

5 - After the meet Sparrer, JackieO and I went to a textile exhibition in the local library. Then we said goodbye and promised to meet up soon again, perhaps before Christmas.

6 - The library was selling cheap books and I bought one I had wanted to read for a while.

7 - Back home I walked to the allotment to say hi to DH who had worked hard all afternoon, but I met him on his way back, so we went back home together companionably.

Edited to add 8 - Just managed to get two free cinema tickets for next Tuesday evening, going to see Unstoppable (with Denzel Washington YUMMY!). This is like a sign from the Universe for me, that I needn't worry about not being able to afford entertainment when I no longer work!

I am truly happy and blessed!

    Good night everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Good evening all. Managed to stay fine here for most of the day so I've been out with the dog. It's gone really cold now though.
Sparrer, well done on your baking yesterday, the ultimate air freshener.
Kitchenbunny, I love it when you manage to get even cheaper something you were going to buy anyway, a nice surprise at the checkout. I hope your DH is OK.
Frith, try not to worry too much about the letters. Glad your sister is OK.
Blimus, give me a shout when you go off travelling - I'll join you!
    My five for today,
    1. A good nights sleep. Only woke at 6.20 when the dog needed to go out - I think she wakes when the heating comes on.
    2. Coffee and jam scone with a friend.
    3. Bought DD2 a lovely woolly monkey hat for her birthday. It's just her thing.
    4. Ikea meatballs for tea.
    5. Going to have a nice hot shower, phone a couple of new friends, then sit and watch X- factor with my girlies and eat sweets. Who needs a man!
Love to all, and keep safe and warm. X
  • Caterina, we must have posted at the same time. Sounds like you had a lovely day today. I wish I could have been there. Love the idea of a 'curry box', the only downside is I'm the only one in my house with spare change!

We had a great time, thank you! Planning to do this many more times, perhaps one day you can join us too!

Re. the spare change, yeh that is a drawback, really, but I keep pestering everybody to put even a few pence in. DH and I tend to put the bulk of the money in, but at least the cost gets spread over a few days (and the food gets paid in cash) rather than put the bill on the credit card and forgotten until the end of the month!

  • My five good things today were meeting up with
    Caterina,
    Minihauk,
    Sparrer
    Purpleclutterbuck
& Annie123 five lovely ladies whom I spent a very enjoyable afternoon with.Well done Caterina for your organising skills in getting us all in the same place at once.Hopefully we can do it again before Christmas with some more people as well.

    Evening all.

Caterina / sparrer / JackieO and everyone else who went to the meet-up - I'm very glad you had such a nice time. I was so pleased when I woke up this morning to find that the weather had improved a bit - I had horrible images of you all blowing away trying to make your way to the meet-up in gale force winds!

Frith - what a horrible set of letters to get. :( I hope you manage to get both npower and HSBC sorted out pronto

I've had a fairly good day today (although probably not as good as the peeps at the meet-up ;)), which surprised me as I woke up feeling rather :( - my own fault for not using my lightbox enough.

    1) Slept in nice and late this morning. :) I might have slept even later except the postman knocked on the door trying to find a home for a parcel with an incomplete address. He seemed rather miffed that I didn't know where it should go either - it seems it's not only people at work who think I should be psychic! smiley-rolleyes010.gif :rotfl:

    2) Had my current favourite breakfast of porridge with spiced stewed plums.

    3) Watched the qualifying session for tomorrow's grand prix while eating a bacon sarnie for lunch. I rarely get time to watch the qualifying session, so it was a nice treat to have half an hour or so to sit and watch cars zooming around.

    4) Took advantage of the lack of rain to mooch down to an international food festival in the town centre: I befriended one of the stall holders with my appalling attempts to speak French (he appreciated the effort I put in, at least :o), and bought some of my favourite French cheese - the only downside is that it's such stinky stuff I'll have to scrub out the fridge with bicarb when I've finished eating it. :p

    5) Bought myself a nice fluffy fleece throw for my bed, using a voucher from completing surveys so it only cost me £5. :money:

    6) Refound the overgrown French beans I had put aside to dry so I can grow some more next year (and had completely forgotten about :o), and they've dried beautifully. :)

    7) In a complete change from my planned dinner, I'm having steak and chips tonight.

All in all, not a bad day, although perhaps a little heavy on the foodie pleasures. :o Have a lovely evening, everyone.
Back after a very long break!
  • I think we may have to have a curry jar too Caterina. Thanks for the idea!

    1) A lie in. It's so good to get up in the light.
    2) Lots of left-overs, so breakfast was Nutella and squidgy banana on bread and lunch was beans with chilli mixed in, on toast.
    3) Jumper watch: am now sewing up. It seems enormous but I haven't dyed it yet and that may affect the size. Also, have 8 1/2 balls of wool left over so I may have an attempt at a simple cable sleeveless pullover.
    4) Backed into my neighbour's car the other day (it was parked at the back of our drive). I felt so stupid. Apparently, I was as white as a sheet when I went round to confess. Anyway, it hardly made a mark and they were really lovely about it. Took round a nice bottle of wine (half price, of course) to apologise and that's finished with.
    5) My French skirt - black lace and rather short. I wouldn't normally wear it. I don't even know why I bought it but DH seems to approve. Borrowed DD's coat and scarf to go with it and retrieved my boots, which she has been wearing all week.

    Have a peaceful weekend, folks.
