    3) Had to do a presentation to my colleagues this morning. I was visibly trembling. However, one of them, who usually annoys me, was sitting and nodding at me encouragingly and on purpose, so that I would calm down. I was so grateful.

    Hi Patchwork -

I have to do loads of presentations for work and have found that Rescue Remedy helps tremendously with the nerves. Just a few drops on the tongue a few minutes before you go on and the nerves just disappear. Hope that helps for next time.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    5 for yesterday (Tuesday).

    1) Had my hair cut at the local college - £3.95! It's a good cut but it did need both lecturers to have a go in the end! (I have quite short and extremely fine, dead straight hair).

    2) Went to Sainsburys with no children, always good.

    3) Made spag bol for tea which everyone liked (my sons and MrN's) or at least appeared to like.

    4) Didn't bother to light the stove but lay on the sofa with a hot water bottle and quilt to watch Holby City.

    5) MrN came round later bearing food :-)

    Hi all

Tealady I LOVE your new shoes, but how do you manage to walk on such high heels? Will you wear them at the OS meet?

Ollie, I did the deed (see pleasures)! It feels so much better!

Blimus, could you please give more info about the crochet japanese face cloths? I can crochet much better than I can knit (but still not very well either!). Thank you!

    Welcome to missmoneysave!

niksyg, best wishes for your pooch's health!

Sparrer, all is well, thank you very much for your concern, just a very busy day - see pleasures below.

Here are my pleasures for yesterday:

1 - I DID IT! I resigned from my job, explaining that I hadn't realised how much it would impact on my family life and also how I am going through a difficult time with the perimenopause and I get very tired very easily and I am finding I struggle to meet both my work and home commitments, which sadly it is the case at the moment. My boss was very understanding and complimented me on how much I have achieved, and also said that I will get a glowing reference! I have agreed to stay until the end of the contract but I have a couple of weeks annual leave owing so I shall leave sometime at the beginning of December! It feels such a relief to have done it and this feeling, with not a shred of doubt, shows me how I have made the right decision.

2 - Knowing that my job will go to someone who probably needs to be in work much more than I do.

3 - Lunch with my personnel colleague who is quite a good friend, considering the short time we have spent in the same office. We agreed to stay in touch and "do" spa visits (she is also very much into mob deals etc...!).

4 - Unexpected email from ShowFilmFirst offering me two return tickets for the viewing of Great Migrations at the O2 in Greenwich. Emailed DH to ask if he was interested and he accepted enthusiastically. So we had a lovely free outing and the documentary (about animal migrations) was spectacular, really interesting.

5 - Remaining in the OS spirit I cooked at home before the show and we enjoyed a lovely vegetable and lentil stew with bread.

I shall be back with today's pleasures later - hope everybody has a very good day x
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Good Afternoon All!

I have spent the morning reclining on the sofa due to lingering woozyness. (Hope this isn't Meniers disease says the hypochondriac in me ).

Well done Caterina. You can look forward to Christmas now instead of dreading 'the deed'!:D

    5 pleasures

    1. Being greeted by our 'work experience' cat. She has made herself at home very quickly, winding herself around legs and helping with any typing that needs to be done on a laptop. Hope she is keeping an eye out for the mouse too!

    2. Free trip to the cinema last night to see Due Date. Bit of a chaps film, but v funny. Thought I would be ok to go to the cinema as it was sitting down, but paid for it when I got home with more woozyness, and had to go staraight to bed.

    3. Lots of propper sleep. Not usually very good at sleeping, so this is a bit of a novelty.

    4. Clothes bought with a voucher code turned up in the post, so v happy they have honoured it.

    5. Item sold on Ebay. A little bit of de cluttering and a little bit of spending money. :)

Off to collect DS2 from school so have a nice evening everyone. HE x
  • 1. Have a gorgeous new haircut and actually feel good about my mop! Well worth £20, and finally found a hairdresser than did what I asked them to ;)

    2. Made myself a skirt out of leftover fabric which fits perfectly and I love it :)

    3. It's cold enough to wear my new winter coat which I splashed out on but I desperately needed a new one and bought one that I absolutely love. I now look forward to going outside :D

    4. Selling some things on ebay, although I have spent more than I earned :o

    5. Going out of my way to give someone a lift even though I haven't know them long, didn't think anything of it but they were so grateful - people should do good turns more often so it's not a surprise when it happens!

    Hi again all

Thanks house elf, you are right, my spirit is so lifted compared to the last few weeks, I really needed to do it!

Here I am for today's pleasures:

1 - What a lazy day, today I indulged in doing almost nothing other than surf the net, look for free opportunities of what to do in London and discovered loads of lectures, music events, talks, places to visit... once I give up the job, I am going to really enrich my soul with all these beautiful things to see and do!

2 - DD made pasta and pea soup for lunch.

3 - Very cheap book from Amazon received in the post, yet another Christmas present sorted.

4 - Quince jam made with the quinces that my friend gave me last weekend (so I was not 100% idle after all!).

5 - Someone said that she finds me very inspirational for all the little things I do and how I keep a good work-life balance - I am really pleased she sees me in this light!

Have a good night everybody x

    Evening all.

Sorry I didn't post yesterday - I had a lousy day and could only think of one pleasure, and really couldn't see the point of switching on the computer just to post that. :(

    Yesterday's pleasure was:

    1) Got my new Indian cookery book, and the recipes look . There's even a recipe for the toffee apple fritters you get in Chinese restaurants - I don't know what that's doing in a book of Indian recipes, but I'm going to try it just the same. :)

    And for today:

    1) HM spicy tomato soup for lunch, followed by the last of the HM banana cake.

    2) Placing a scarily large order with an online butcher, then working out that, with a bit of OS thinking, it actually works out at less than £1 a portion, which isn't bad at all for FR meat. And I won't have to buy any meat for the rest of the winter, which has to be good.

    3) Cuddles with a nice warm puddy tat on a miserable, windy evening.

    4) I don't feel like cooking, but I've found something good in the freezer, so I can still have a HM dinner. It helps make room for all the stuff I've just ordered, too. :o

    5) A bit mean, but - getting a message from my dad that he's visiting Portsmouth tomorrow instead of today as he'd planned. I'm looking forward to seeing him, of course, but I don't really fancy going out in all that windy sogginess again today.

Caterina - I'm glad your resignation went OK, in as much as that's possible. It doesn't sound like you'll be short of things to do when you leave, either. ;)

house elf - I hope you feel better soon. At least you've got some feline company while you're feeling ill, if she has time away from her mousing duties.

missmoneysave - hello and welcome to the thread! :hello:

    Have a nice evening, all.
Back after a very long break!

Thank you Ollie, Sparrer and Caterina for your well wishes for the pooch! His Xray has been sent off to a specialist vet but it looks like he is going to have to have surgery :(
But I suppose if we get it sorted now he shouldn't have too many problems later in life.
Unfortunately the anaesthetic has made him all confused and unsure of what to do with himself so he is being extra clingy and quite fretful.

On the upside, my pleasures today:

    1) Had a bit of a lie in this morning as pup didn't need to go for a walk.
    2) OH was very grateful that I dropped his lunchbox off at his work as he had left it in the kitchen. So grateful that he did all the washing up this evening!
    3) It's Wednesday which is my favourite teaching day as only 2 classes and lovely groups!
    4) The wagginess of pooch when I went to collect him f.rom the vets :)
    5) having a lovely cuddle with my not-quite-with-it doglet!

    Hi everyone,

Been reading all your posts lately- I have become totally totally addicted. I've recently decided to try to get to bed earlier and get up earlier as I can be more productive that way. The thing is, I'm finding myself coming on here as soon as I get up-and also really looking forward to it! I honestly do have a life but this site and this thread in particular is truly addictive.

Loved the last day of my hols on Sunday and had snuggly afternoon watching Goodnight Mister Tom which I'd never seen before. Really soppy but loved it- made marking seem less of a drag.

Anyway back to now- had to miss last two days now but can start with today.

    1. Getting up early so that getting ready for work is more chilled out and not rushed and stressed before day has even started.
    2. Driving my new, warm car and feeling like a 'proper grown up' at last.
    3. Coming home to a still tidy and clean house after DH had done washing up.
    4. Not a great pleasure at all but have to plan a lesson that will be observed by colleagues tomorrow. Not a pleasure but trying to look on bright side- in warm house with cosy candles and a little wintry fake baileys (ASDA version) to keep me company.
    5. Aiming for an early night- haven't got long so must get a move on.

Hope you are all well and looking forward to hearing yours xxx

Aw thanks so much for the welcome everyone :)
It's a very uplifting thread, makes me feel all cosy.
I know exactly what you mean ott09 :)
So I'm going to think of 5 pleasures from my day today as I don't think I'm really living 'in the moment' these last few weeks, ifyswim?
1/ Waking up to my lovely dog who I let sleep on the bed when OH is working...naughty I know.
2/ Eating lunch at work which DD had made for me the night before. A hearty bean casserole.
3/ Calling in on my niece after work, I haven't seen her for a few weeks so it was lovely to have a natter and a brew.
4/ Receiving a glowing text from a work colleague appreciating the work I do.
5/ Knowing that the veg soup I'm going to make later will be delicious and doubly delicious because the veg was reduced!
Can I have 6...not caring that my clothes will be full of dog hairs because the dog has decided to sit on my knee whilst I'm on here!

I don't believe in the concept of hell, but if I did I would think of it as filled with people who were cruel to animals.
