5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

-
Evening all,
I didn't post yesterday as I was away with work, so I'll post for yesterday and today.
1) My very scary presentation to all our very senior managers went really well (thanks to rescue remedy!!) and I got some lovely feedback from a lot of people. The topic was quite challenging and I completely messed up the rehersals... but it was all alright on the night.
So pleased for you - know you were worried. What a great tip that was about the RR!
2) Popped in to see a collegue/ friend on the way home from the conference who was hosting an jewellry and accessory party. I bought myself a lovely new necklace as well as another necklace which will be a christmas present for someone.
3) A random text saying "Ladyhawk (well my real name obviously!) has anyone told you lately that you are a beaut". I am assuming this is from someone who has seen a rather large picture of me in a trade magazine... Anyway I am assuming that it was meant nicely!
What a nice boost!
4) Having a drink with an Irish colleague yesterday evening. We had a bit of a heart to heart and she gave me some advice about dealing with the emotional baggage from a previous relationship, which, 10 years after it ended, still affects me.
5) NSD yesterday.
Night night all... I'm shattered!
L
PS. Caterina - could I have your quince recipe?

I feel the two are connected0 -
Pleasures for today:
1. Another £3 of Luncheon Vouchers in the post today from a survey site. All adding up nicely to cover costs of christmas.
2. Lots of left overs from a posh lunch at work today so I had a free lunch and managed to put some in a pot for my dinner. DD had carrot soup and OH had left overs from the fridge so no cooking for me tonight:j
3. Lift home from work tonight. I normally walk but I had 2 laptops in my back pack tonight so was glad of the lift.
4. Busy day at work today but we still managed to have a laugh in amongst the choas that was our office today
5. It's Friday tomorrow:j:T:j
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Evening everyone!
I've realised I've had withdrawal symptons not being able to get on here for a couple of days! Just been enjoying a good read of what everyone'd been up to.
I'm so glad you posted what you did, dundeedoll - I too have felt awkward if there just hasn't been time to comment on everyone's days, and thank you so much Caterina for your very thoughtful reply (and well done on handing in your notice!!)
My pleasures today:-
1 Enjoying a good read on here and being able to share other people's pleasures, which in turn helps me to recognise more and more that I do have real pleasures in my life (sorry that sounds long winded but hope you got the drift!)
2 No work today :j Only working 2 days a week is a godsend
3 Met up with a friend for lunch at college - lovely meal for only £2.80!!
4 My lovely cuddly puddy tat, snuggling on my knee this afternoon
5 Looking forwards to doing some more work on sorting out my spare room, soon to be craft room
I hope all those with troubles or who are under the weather feel better soon,
Pam x0 -
Have had 48 hours of feeling pretty lousy (mentally). But have managed to tell my sister what was troubling me in an email (which is a start, as normally I don't tell anyone anything at all!) and have also bought some 5htp which is supposed to boost serotonin levels so we shall see...
Anyway, determined to get 5 for today.
1) Boys got to school on time and happy and bigger son had a guitar lesson.
2) Had a day of doing nothing (not that I could have achieved much anyway).
3) Picked boys up and smaller son had had a certificate for "offering to collect the litter at lunchtime and for good manners". :-)
4) Went into town for the 5htp and some yoghurt raisins and dropped a massive bag off at the charity shop.
5) Went swimming with sons and my brother. I wish they'd start heating it!
6) MrN came round, tired and stressed as you like, but still lovely to see him. And his version of stressed hardly matches up to my gibbering, twitchy wreck stressed which he had to endure last night.
Hoping tomorrow is a better day.
Goodnight, everyone.
P.S Just turned back the quilt on my bed to put the hot water bottle in and have found smaller son in there asleep next to a note he has written which says, "I love you very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" :-)))))0 -
aww frith, what a little darling! Makes you want to hug them tight when they do something like that but you can't for fear of waking them. Thank you for sharing that beautiful moment
Dundeedoll and Pam, sometimes I get carried away and post long replies but then I think perhaps everyone thinks I haven't got a life outside MSE, so I post short ones for a while. 'S ever so friendly here, you just do your own thing, and write whatever you like. I find it very theraputic if I've had a difficult day to be able to come and count my blessings
my 5
1. What a day! Tried to pay the agent in India for our flights, to be told the price he quoted was for one way only! Did he think we'd like it so much there we wouldn't want to come back? ! Spent 99% of the day shuffling money from one a/c to another, and searching for a return flight via a UK agent. Think I've found one cheaper than his one way ticket. Will call the UK agent in the morning
2. Found someone who has offered to look at my lappy, he thinks the repair HP is quoting £2/300 for may cost less than £20 . No promises but it looks, umm..promising
3. Postie brought me some sachets of coffee, and full sized shampoo and conditioner of a make I couldn't even think to buy because it's so expensive. Lucky me, I shall use it verrrrry sparingly :T
4. Threw allsorts into a pan for tea and added some rice and chicken stock. Result - one very delicious risotto
5. My friends, who are moving next month, have offered me lots of herbs from their garden and their gas cooker. I've never cooked on gas before so I said I'd think about it. Mine's 8 years old, very basic but clean (!) and in perfect working order so I'll have to find out if gas is any cheaper than elec to cook on. Truth is I only ever turn the thing on once in a while as I have a steamer, mw and sc so wonder if it's worth changing.
Tired out after all that thinking! Night night, sweet dreams

Hi a very late evening all
1. Water was off for 6 hours due to burst mains pipe but father in law still had water and filled several plastic containers for us, the pleasure in this was that I was able to take some water round to a neighbour who has a very young baby and no water for feeds or sterilizing bottles.
2. It's Friday tomorrow.
3. Water finally coming back on!! Don't realise how much we take it for granted until it's not there!!
4. Still not had to put the heating on
5. DH got a letter saying he's earnt a long service award at work (5 years) and will get an extra £75 in his November paygreat with Christmas coming and we didn't know about it

My five for the last couple of days are
1. DS2 making tea.
2. A couple of NSD
3. Biscuits at work - lovely shortbread.
4. No heating on yesterday.
5. All the ironing done for now.
6. Managed to leave work slightly early and it meant that I could work the dog in the light . Well, it wasn't pitch black.0 -
Good morning all. I will post later but just wanted to say thank you to Caterina for such a thougthful post, and so well written. Mine normally reads like the ramblings of a mad woman!! Which is just what they are come to think of it!
Have a lovely day. X0 -
Mine for the last few days:Someone earlier - mineallmine, I think - mentioned condensed milk use/recipes.
Shall post 2 goodies later
################
Try this:
http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2010/03/creamy-lemon-crumb-squares/
The other one is from the condensed milk tin label:
Chocolate Caramel Squares
Shortbread Base -
Beat 85gm butter with 45gms caster sugar[I used Poundland's ordinary Whitworth sugar - fine]till light and fluffy. Sift in 150gms plain flour, then turn out and knead briefly before pressing mix into 20x28cm[approx8x11"]tin. Bake till firm - about 25 mins at Gas Mark 4.
Filling-
In a pan, put 120gms butter, 75gms brown sugar, 30gms honey, can of condensed milk[apx 400gms]over medium heat, STIRRING CONSTANTLY, until all is melted and well combined - it will thicken.
Pour it over the shortbread base and leave to set.
Top with a 225gm block of chocolate, melted over low heat.
Cut into 24 squares just before chocolate reaches setting point[or 2 large pieces, if you prefer.]
I've put some of these useful conversions up on fridge - handy if I'm using Oz or American recipes, and non-gas temps.

1 Thanks ampersand,I'm going to make the creamy lemon crumb squares today. The tin of condensed milk expired at the end of July 2010,but I'm sure it'll be fine.Does anyone remember the condensed milk sandwiches that Lenny Henry used to eat in Tiswas?
2 Getting my off-duty for December and January.I've got 6 days off over Christmas, had only asked for 5.The rest is fine too,my working days well spaced out.
3 I've finished preparing the quinces,I've got 1.6 litres of liquid.I reduced and strained them twice.I'm going to make a jelly today;it'll be my first time making this,so very curious to see how it turns out.
4 The weather is so mild here.I've still got the heating off and the windows open all day.I keep dressing too warmly and then get overheated, which I hate!(We did have a very cold spell at the end of October, and I thought 'Oh here we go!').When the cold does arrive,it'll be a shock.
5 I've started doing my daily stretching exercises again, which I'd stopped doing for a while.I definitely feel the benefit.
caterina well done on resigning.
sparrer hope you get your ticket sorted out!
frith what a sweet little boy!
Hope you all have a good day x0 -
Morning everybody  - looks like the possibility of a decent day - well at least it does at the moment
.
I'm sorry if some of my posts give people the impression that everybody should do similar - just trying to be encouraging and would hate to leave anybody out of a friendly acknowledgement - you all seem to have great ideas and wonderful stuff going on in your lives that I want to give you all a :j and :T and awhen you're out of sorts.
Mine for yesterday:
1. All staff in work had a briefing from our Chief Exec about cuts/possibly redundancies in the offing. All departments will be invited to meetings next week as they're looking for 1 in 6 job losses one way or another. We've got a Team Meeting this afternoon for our own team, so may hear some more about our Line Manager and HER job. Not much of a blessing, I know, but I'd rather know where I stand jobwise than be in the dark and not make plans.
2. DD has had a meeting with dgs1's school and finally has a diagnosis about him from a Psychologist. ADD and ADHD plus dyslexia - which is more or less what we've been thinking for the past 5 yrs though it still wouldn't surprise me if they bring back the possibilites of ASD. Wonder how much it cost to train all those professionals that have seen him in those years to finally come up with what we, his family, have been saying all along. Anyway, that's now all in the past and we can finally move on with his education and get some behavioural therapies in place.
3. Had a 'lurking' meal last night - OH had whoopsied Rainbow Trout fillets and I had whoopsied Cheesey Chicken Kiev - both had been in the freezer so long they were covered in Permafrost- with mashed pots and green beans/baby sweetcorn that had also been hanging around for ages. More space cleared from freezer :j.
4. Curry, rice, naans and indian snacky things for tonight - again all from the frozen depths :j.
5. Did quite a bit of my shawl again last night - hoping to get it finished by this weekend - fingers crossed.
Going to get off and ready for work now - quite a day ahead and can't wait for the weekend to arrive. Planning to have dgd2 for overnight on Saturday. Have a great OS day everybody - love Ollie xxx0
