  • Caterina Well done on your resignation! You've got loads to look forward to now rather than that awful low-level anxiety caused by something that you really don't want to do. Here is the pattern I used for the Tawashi http://www.tangledyarns.ca/storage/easy%20scrubber.pdf I've been using mine for washing up - it's great. Much better than the cheapie dish sponges I was using and I obviously feel better about something that's reusable.

    Here are mine for today:
    1) A NSD
    2) Heating still off. I'm not going to be a martyr about it but it's just not that cold yet.
    3) A fantastic haul of books from the library for DS's and myself.
    4) Just won 20 balls of wool on ebay for a really good price (cheaper than charity shop prices even).
    5) A lovely chat on the phone with my mum this evening.

  • Hi everyone, thank you for making me feel so welcome!
    My five for today are;

    1. Popping into see an old work friend and having tea and cake.

    2. Shopping with my mum and having her hint at what she may have got me for birthday/christmas- It's looking good! Every year around this time she constantly tells me not to buy anything. If I say I like something she instantly snaps 'Do Not Buy It!'

    3. Discovering from the OS boards that you can freeze baked potatoes. Bought 20 baking pots for £2, so that's helping the Grocery Challenge.

    4. Having a good clear out, sorted stuff for ebay and some books for green metropolis.

    5. OH bringing me a sandwich home from work, he works at a factory that makes sandwiches for some big names and gets them for 40p. Today it was turkey and all the trimmings with a retail price of £2.50-Bargain!!

    Evening

Caterina - Congratulations and it sounds like you have lots of lovely things planned to do with your time when you finish work.

    Pleasures for today:
    1. Managing to get a seat on the train this morning even it I didn't get one tonight. The underground strike makes getting the trains around the london area a nightmare.
    2. Dealing with a couple of stroppy people at work the pleasure being I managed to talk them around in the end
    3. DD made carrot soup at school today so thats tomorrows lunch sorted
    4. Lovely email from a friend today

Thats about it for today as has been a hard busy day.

hugs to all who need them
  • Thank you Ladyhawk for the tip. I wonder if Blackberry Vodka does the trick too? Unaccountably, we still have some left from last year.

    1) A jacket potato lunch. The left overs I brought from home looked a little manky, especially when I got a whiff of crisp potato skin. A colleague makes them twice a week for £1 each, so I nipped into the kitchen and asked if he had any spare.
    2) DD made tea. She says she needs the practice. I sat and knitted while she put it together!
    3) Jumper watch : two thirds of the way up the first sleeve.
    4) A chicken for £1.50 in the yellow stickers department. We all know how far a chicken will go.
    5) Jumper dress : DD gave me a jumper dress. It's not quite my style (I'm a little old for these things) but it's not quite her colour. However, it is comfortable and warm, so I'm enjoying wearing it at home.

Lastly, the crocheted blankets have come out. I keep them in a cupboard in the living room and it's amazing how something so holey can be so warm.

Hugs to all posters and lurkers.

Welcome newbies :hello: come on in, pull up a chair and tell us about all the good things that have been happening in your day :D

Really late tonight, and nicely weary after a busy day so a quick 5

    1. Sunshine all day, a strong breeze but not cold so still no heating on
    2. Planted the fruit bushes, then while I was making dinner I started a new bulb of garlic to find the cloves were whoppers, so planted 5 of those, too :D
    3. nsd
    4. Gave all the pets a good comb with the 'furminator', they're all looking smart and it cost nothing but time. I don't envy owners who have breeds which need trimming every 6 weeks or so
    5. A super evening at my fellowship, lots of fun and laughter (laughing's something we never did when we were drinking), all free and not a drop in sight. Miserable lot, us alkies :rotfl:

    Night night, sweet dreams

Morning all  - attempt no.2 at this post - had a go last night and lost the lot - sooooo annoying .

Patchwork - :j good news about your car repairs - fingers crossed that's the last, at least for the rest of the winter. Blackberry Vodka left over  - how did you manage that one?
sparrer - thanks for thinking about me going to the docs - more about that later. wd on the strawberry plants - should be good for next summer . hey sparrer you're so right - the only miserable alkies are the ones who are still drinking - they just THINK they're 'life n soul' ;).
villagelife - loved reading your no.3 (cosy indoors and wind outside) - was exactly what I was experiencing at the time :D.
Ladyhawk - good tip about the Rescue Remedy.
Frith - wtg on getting your hair done at the local college :T.
Caterina - HSpuschel-schmal.gif - os cheerleaders! - wd you on finally 'doing the deed' - I'm sure you'll soon get into the swing of your 'new life' and see the benefits that you and your family will 'reap' from your 'extra home-time'. There ya' go - already got a stash of Quince Jam .
house elf - hope your 'woozyness' soon goes - have you perhaps caught some kind of 24hr bug? HShugs211_32276.gif for you.
funkymonkey - wow another one been for a hairdo - now just look what you started Caterina - one purple fringe and we're all out for a 'new look' :rotfl:.
CCP - HSbearhugblinkie1.gif and hope you have a good time with your dad.
niksyg - good to hear that pooch's x-ray went well and :crossf: for his recovery. They are so funny when they feel a 'little groggy' - I'm sure you're both enjoying the cuddles.
ott09 - glad you managed to watch 'Goodnight Mr Tom' - I'm not really in 'soppy stuff' but that one gets me - especially when they find him with the baby :(. Hope your lesson goes well today :D.
dizzylizzie - hi again, hun - good to see we didn't frighten you away ;). It's nice to know that our work colleagues appreciate us :j.
Blimus - wtg on managing to keep the heating off :T - had to give in here due to grandkids visiting and then getting a chest infection :(. Oh well try again next year :). wtg on getting the wool on e-bay :j.
missmoneysave - welcome back  - excellent vfm on the baking pots :T.
Tealady - congrats on your diplomacy in work :j and wd to your dd on making the soup.
Keeping Positive - :hello: and welcome :D. well done on your financial progress - given the current climate, that's great going :T.

    Mine for yesterday:

    1. Parcel through the post - pressie for OH's young niece that I ordered about 10days ago and was just beginning to get worried about - phew!

    2. Getting on with a task in work that's proving to take longer than expected - right pain, but has to be done on a routine basis.

    3. Managing to 'kick asre' with our repairs people and got some progress on jobs that had been reported but not done - have now learned that if a job doesn't get 'appointed' within a couple of days, to cc my Line Manager into the e-mail when sending a reminder - :rotfl:, it works!!!!

    4. Visit to GP - even though the worst of my chest infection has gone, he's put me back on anti-biotics because he says he can still 'hear it'. Got results of blood test - cholesterol 4.1/blood sugars 5.6/blood count fine/liver enzymes (mum has a hereditary liver problem) fine - so big sigh of relief. Wants me back again next week to check my peak flow reading because I coughed as I blew out into the thingy lol.

    5. Shank Stew with dumplings and braised savoy cabbage for evening meal last night - very yummy for a wicked night!

    6. Managed to get on with some more of my shawl.

Need to get off and start work for the day - will pop in again during the day, IF I get chance. Bye for now and ((((hugs)))) for all who need them - love Ollie xxx

Good morning all, and what a good morning it is, such mild weather (time to put a laundry on for outdoor drying!).

Funkymonkey, sorry for missing the good news about your haircut (and thank you Ollie for pointing it out!) - OMG a hairdresser that actually does what you ask?!? Quick, give me the address please! Do you realise how rare that is?

CCP and Tealady, thanks for your kind words about my resignation and YES my diary is definitely getting filled with potentially very interesting free events and things to do, isn't it exciting? This is definitely the good side of living in London, so much to do and no need to spend money on fun!

nicsyg, your pooch will need a few days to get over the anaesthesia, I know it from my cat when he had a cyst taken out it took him a good week before he was himself again. Just keep him near you as much as possible and give him lots of attention, poor pet!

Ott09 and dizzy lizzie, this thread should come with a (good) health warning, it is so addictive! It is not such a bad addiction though, don't you think?

Blimus, thank you for the pattern (and for the kind words about my resignation, too!). I wonder if the nylon/plastic side of the scrubber could be knitted using plastic bags cut into ribbons, I might give it a try, among all the other craft projects I have in mind!

missmoneysave, I did not think about freezing baked potatoes, what a good idea, thanks for the tip!

    Welcome Keeping Positive!

    Patchwork Quilt
, I know what you mean about the crocheted blankets! I am crocheting one for DS now (the one for DD took me the best part of 3 years, done just while watching TV in the evenings!) and it is quite big now, it is very comforting to feel its warm weight on my legs while I work the on borders!

Sparrer, well done on your gardening effort, if you are an expert on fruit bushes I hope you don't mind me picking your brains about raspberry canes etc...when we meet at the next OS meet?

Ollie, thank you very much, the cheerleaders made me laugh until tears run down my face! Sorry to hear you are still not fully recovered and have to take antibiotics, but glad your blood tests are ok.

See you all later when I shall come to count my blessings in the evening, meanwhile I hope you all have a good day!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Hello all. Just wanted to pop by to say a quick hello. I've had a rough few days, wont bore you with the details. I have been reading but not up to posting just yet, maybe later today. Lovely to read all your pleasures though. X
  • Its been quite a while since I posted my 5 a day...please can I join in again? I have really missed the positive thinking exercise and hearing everyone's happy 5 too.

From the last couple of days:

    1. Having been pretty poorly but am starting to feel a bit brighter now at last!

    2. Our two new chickens (very flighty and cute cream legbars) never cease to entertain. This morning they decided to fly onto the top of their coop for a look around and to look down on the other two hens. (Other hens most disgruntled as they are too old and fat to fly up there themselves..!) They then flew onto the decking area which is fenced off to keep them out. Look very pleased with themselves to have crossed into forbidden territory!

    3. I managed a brief trip to Ald! this morning for basic provisions and found some sticky stuff remover. It works!!!!!!! The residue from the huge manufacturer's stickers is now gone from the glass on three internal doors. Shame its taken 3 years to get to that point..

    4. Did some ironing while watching a recording of Butler and Wilson jewellery on QVC. Very entertaining. (Well to me, anyway!)

    5. OH has work on today and also more in the pipeline. Being self-employed has been a real struggle over this last year but I hope things are finally looking up for us.

Sending a hug to anyone feeling the need. :)
