5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

-
Evening all!
Sparrer - hope you had a good nooze.
Frith - WD on your industriousness. I really need to have a big clear out.
Ollie - maybe you could post us all some lemon drizzle cake and we could have a virtual coffee and cake morning??
1) Getting up early (not a pleasure) and driving down to Windsor Castle for a meeting (not with Lizzy). I took the back roads and the autumn leaves were just spectacular.
2) I managed to get parking on in the castle's tiny parking lot right next to where the meeting was being held. Everyone else (our exec board and my boss!) had to pay a fortune to park 10 minutes walk away! Tee Hee!
3) The nice policemen were very understanding when I realised that I had forgotten my purse at home therefore didn't have any ID on me.
4) Yummy HM scone for brekkie with HM jam
5) Yummy lunch at the castle... though I ate far too much!
Have a great evening everyone
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Just typed a post and lost it cos I forgot to preview it periodically  Silly me!
Primrose sorry you had a rotten day, hope today was better. I don't like dark evenings either, the only consolation is it's only 5 months til Spring!
GirlySquare the build-a-bear party sounds good fun. I'm another sprout lover, my late step-dad taught me to put a tiny drop of vinegar on them and they're so nice like that
jaxx another with a robin visitor, they know all the best places to go
Blimus the Amigurumi looks good, I can't crochet for toffee but I could knit some of those little figures without being bored. I don't have too much patience with knitting, it's like having to make the material before you put it together!
Frugal yet another robin! I think they're singling out the MSE'ers cos they know they'll be well fed. I do agree about the dust, as an older member of the thread I can honestly say it's better to have a tidy house and lovely memories in later life, than stress about the layer of dust that playing with the children makes
Tealady congrats on the very frugal shop, nicely done
Yesterdays 5
1. Got 2 loads of washing dry on the racks as it rained (understatement) most of the day
2. Took a cake along for the Sunday lunchtime meeting, lots of goodies there to share today
3. Called into MatAlan on the way home for some of their £5 thermal long johns, then found a pair of jimmies exactly the same as the long johns and thermal tops, for £6. Now I have a thermal top and 'long johns' for only £1 more
4. Went into the local charity shop (how sad that they have to open on Sundays) and bought an unusual ManU stationery set for £2, for one of the GC
5. Came home and had a hot cuppa - really appreciated it after shopping in the gloom
Back later with todays pleasures
S x0 -
Hi all
Thank you all for your good wishes re. today - they worked (see pleasures below), and thank you Frugalpam also for hair compliment!
I am very tired so apologies if I don't write a lot, but send collective (HUGS) to all who need them.
Here are my pleasures:
1 - The day went extremely well, it was a total success (now it is going to be very embarrassing to leave but I am still going to - only I shall have to delay the annoucement a little, not to put the kibosh on the success of the day).
2 - I was lucky to be able to sit at reception all day, instead of having to run around, so it was not as tiring as it could have been.
3 - The lunch was absolutely delicious and I also ate lots of biscuits!
4 - It is now over!
5 - Back home, went to M&S to get a few ready bits (resisted the temptation to go out for dinner!) and got a lot of yellow stickered stuff, including two plum punnets, which will go into crumble or even jam if the fancy takes me.
Love to all xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
I'm having to think hard to find 5 for today...
1 Slept really well,so hauling myself out of bed at 5.30am was relatively painless. This is a rare occurance!
2 Weather mild and dry, long may it last.
3 Having some of my chunky vegetable soup for lunch.
4 Hand-washing some woollens.
5 Re-arranging a rdv for another day,so that tomorrow (a day-off) I don't have to go into town.
Olliebeak I am an old ex-leper,sorry nail-biter;ex-'ish' that is.It's a horrible, horrible habit,I still have 1 or 2 'raggedy' nails. For some reason,I don't nibble on the left hand-it looks normal, which only magnifies the sheer horror that is my right hand.....I can only do a basic manicure, but it's very satisfying.I can't stand nail varnish either!
Ladyhawk Your day at Winsdor sounds intriguing.
Frugalpam Congratulations on your weight loss.
Frugal How lovely to see red kites. My bird book (from 2001),doesn't make any mention of them being found in Britain (?).Do you know if they have been 'introduced'?
Frith Well done on sorting out all your paperwork.
Good night x0 -
Evening peeps.
It'll be a bit of a quick one from me tonight as I slept really badly last night and desperately need to zzzzz....
Sorry, where was I? Ah, yes:
1) A lovely sunny warm day in Portsmouth.
2) Got confirmation that my latest batch of cashback - all £140 of it - will land in my account tomorrow. New sofa here I come! :j
3) Watching fireworks out of the office window just before going home - the only good thing about it now getting dark so early.
4) Watching a very interesting documentary about rhinos while eating my dinner - a friend at work told me it was good, and she was right.
5) The cat's given up on trying to sneak outside and has gone to sleep instead. He's a nightmare at this time of year as he actually likes fireworks, rather than being scared of them, and can't understand why I won't let him go outside and watch them.
I hope everyone's had an OK kind of a day today. See you tomorrow... zzzzz....Back after a very long break!0 -
Haven't popped in for ages - hope all are well! Some lovely pleasures have been had it seems from having a quick browse through the previous couple of pages...
Mine for today -
1) Back to work after half term which was not so good, but it was GREAT to arrive in the staffroom to find my day's lessons and resources all ready to go because I sorted them all out during the week off!
2) Had a lovely cuddle on the sofa with OH when he got home. :blushing:
3)Roasted half of yesterday's pumpkin ready for soup
tomorrow and put the other half in the freezer (hope it freezes ok??!)
4) Scrummy supper of SC turkey stew that I made yesterday but we didn't eat because we were so full from our lunch out with friends. Plus, there's probably 4 portions left and a mini portion to have with leftover mash and broc for OH's lunch tomorrow
5) OH and I went through finances and have agreed to me much stricter over the next few months!
Have a good rest of the evening xClearing debt to save for a simple wedding.Starting 2016 With debt of £77000 -
Evening
1. Porridge for breakfast this morning, haven't had it for ages but really enjoyed and stopped me from feeling hungry mid morning. Must get back into the habit of having it more often again.
2. Picked up some free lego with a 45p spend. Will go towards nephews present
3. Bought DD a watch with £5 off to put away
4. Passed on the link for the £5 debenhams voucher to a few friends, one was very happy as after having her DD is working reduced hours so every little helps
5. Not MSE but the shoes I ordered last week arrived today and they are lovely.I did have a £20 off voucher though. I have a thing for red shoes and handbags:)
Hugs to all who need them0 -

my 5 for the weekend -
1. postie brought me a free full-size pack of face wipes and a free cook book :j
2. how beautiful all the trees look at the moment - nature's fireworks!!
3. had LOADS of trick or treaters call round and they were all so well behaved and polite, and all looked great in their various costumes
4. watching the film "White Fang" with my own Alaskan Malamute curled up by my feet
5. reading eveyones posts on here - lovely to hear people finding pleasures in their day despite all the doom and gloom on the news all the time0 -
Good evening all
frugalpam - that sudden darkness around 4.30 has made a huge difference to how we view the day, hasn't it. It really felt like 8.30 when I left DD's this evening - was only 6.30 lol. wd on saving some WW points for a piece of cake.
Ladyhawk - sorry hun, no Lemon Drizzle left now - all appreciated very much at DD's. There's enough Banana&Date to go round though - can't believe that dgd1 (age 12) has decided that she loves that one so much that she wants it for her next birthday cake - July 2011 lol. oooh a meeting a Windsor Castle - what a fabulous setting! I was taken there by an ex-b/f about 40yrs ago and still have the photos that I took - my favourite part was the very old Curfew Tower part and the cloisters.
sparrer - wd on your 'long johns/pj's' find :T - could do with some for my OH - he wears them throughout the winter AND when we go on holiday under his climbing/walking gear. Our charity shops haven't started to open on a Sunday yet - doubt if my favourite one will as it's a joint venture run by local churches.
Caterina - Good news that your day went well in work - good luck when you decide to make your announcement,
marmite - 5.30am  - I'm just about toddling back to bed after a 'visit' at that time. I have to confess that I sometimes 'nibble' at the sides of my fingers/nails - makes them look awful but not as bad as having them chewed like they used to be. My biggest pleasure now is to be able to wear rings and have them look good. Bit of a pain on a keyboard though
.
CCP - wtg on your cashback :T. lol at your cat wanting to get out. My darling Tiggy-tiger used to love watching the fireworks BUT would never try to get out while they were happening - Sandy the dog, however, used to be under the coffee table having a nervous breakdown.
niksyg - :hello: again - :T for you having your lesson plan all worked out for today. Best of luck with your finances - at least it's a joint decision so you're both singing from the same songsheet.
Tealady - wow - get those shoes :j - not a cat in hell's chance of me getting my size 9's into something like those - but you go girl!!!
mineallmine - great decluttering :T - wish I could be more determined in that department.
fairylittle - FREEBIES - what a great start to your day :j! and you're so right about the colours at this time of year - positively 'jewel-like' at the moment around here.
Mine for today:
1. Managed to get to DD's for 9.00am - talk about bleary-eyed - SHOULD have stayed the night.
2. Great morning with dgd2 in the town centre in my hometown. Spotted a new safety pressure valve for my pressure cooker - right make etc - but it won't fit . Not sure what to do now - need a new valve but that one should have fitted
. Got a plastic thingy for DD to hold carrier bags (she really hurt her fingers last week) - 10p in the kitchen gadget shop :T.
3. Had £16+ on cards from Argos, so used them to get a couple of pressies for dgk's towards Christmas - £9.99 each or 2 for £15 :j.
4. Got a refund from my 'skanky ham shank' at the weekend - ok it was only £2.50 but better in my pocket than theirs. Will go back and have another go at a later date - but no space in freezer at the moment.
5. Wilko's have got their Christmas Tree decs instore now :T - P-L-E-A-S-E will somebody ban me from that shop before I buy more. DID get some batteries and two rolls of wrapping paper. Also bought a couple of 'special family Christmas Cards'.
6. Treated Caitlin and myself to McD's at lunchtime - my Coffee was free because I had a card in my purse - had the Sweet Chilli Chicken deli sandwich and it was .
7. Brought dgd1 back home with me this evening. She's curled up on the sofa in my dressing gown and I'm going to have to make her walk upstairs to bed - no way either OH or I can carry her.
8. DD had her endoscopy this morning. Nothing suspicious found, although the guy said there was some inflammation and he took a sample for biopsy. Also removed 2 polyps from her colon - she watched him do that on the screen and said they looked huge and that the instrument looked like one of those amusement arcade 'grabbers' :rotfl:. She's also got internal piles - omg she's 'in the wars'!
........ that's me done for this evening - am really tired and need my bed. Back to work in the morning. I'm beginning to really understand how Caterina feels.
sleep tight all andfor anybody who wants/needs them - love Ollie xxx
